I’ve asked and had different answers.. one thought is that it provides shelter yes, but someone else said it permitted camera buffs to hide to get pictures of the animals as they come and go about their business.. Some would be big enough for that, but others look too tight against the tree.. i see them on most of the trails where there is steady traffic of hikers, walkers etc.
