flowers at TD bells corners

Windows, so important in our daily lives.  Often neglected, still, they reflect and offer up a wonderful array of visual delights.  I hoped the light wouldn’t change before I captured the beautiful yellow flowers.  I was granted my wish.

I know I am not alone in my joy in the simplicity of simply enjoying the creativity in the world that surrounds me.

What have you seen out of your window recently that had a WOW factor.

Hope your week-end is full of discoveries, you are in my thoughts, always and forever.

PL Calendar day 14 – Being considerate of others is just as important as what works for you.

the living is easy

Good afternoon everyone…

Bright and early I too myself off to the cemetery to cut back the evergreens that I planted there some 30 years ago.  I had intended to take a before picture, but by the time I arrived at the cemetery the heat of the day was already beginning to show itself.  Shy flower that I am… I went over, pulled the weeds, and gathered up the dead leaves for the mulch bag with a determined dedication of purpose.

How is your day so far?  The hot weather is to continue on here for the rest of the week.  Good time to stay indoors and work on projects in my studio.

I have had many ideas these past weeks, but not had the chance to get started.  Today is the day.

How to live an Artistic life...

The PL Principles(21)are the practical guidelines for our daily lives.  As PL members they assist us in practicing the PL Precepts (21)  The 21 Principles are specific guidelines on how to live the PL Way (an artistic life) and teach us how to reach a positive state of mind, so that we can express ourselves more harmoniously and joyfully

Principle #14  I will not have a mind to be lazy.  I will not have complaints while working, nor be overly concerned and complain about others.

Reminder, Ancestors day, July 11th.   service will be at 10 a.m.

life = art

wall art, hung 3.27.17

Art is subjective.  Art takes on many forms and is never really something that people will  agree on.  Style, techniques, presentation, so many many varieties and opinions.

As an “artist” I begin with an empty canvas or sometimes with one I’ve seen at a thrift and want to repurpose.  It is amazing how effective gesso is at wiping out what was previously on the canvas.  In this case I covered up a rather mundane picture of leaves and shrubs with black gesso (Demco) used for oil and acrylic.

wall art 3.27.17

This little character started out full-bodied, but somehow, he didn’t like what was happening, and as other artists will tell you.. it wasn’t long before, he took on a life of his own. Happens when writing too.  The story line you have had in your head for days, starts to take shape on the screen, your fingers are typing away, your mind is playing out the scene…  it is all so smooth, so “happening”.. till you stop and take a breather…. you see the plot has taken turns, even you didn’t expect.

Is it “intuition” what happens when we are creative, when we try to reproduce the ideas in our mind to paper, canvas or other form of expression.  How often do we hear the expression.. “life happens”  or “sh#t happens”  Sometimes it is super cool, great, awesome even, and other times, it is a lot of , darn, cripes, and %@%# !  Whatever, there is always a consequence  to our actions.

IN PL we learn … that every day is a new beginning.  We learn to be creative with any and all challenges /opportunities that come our way.  Most importantly to appreciate the lessons, and outcomes of the day.

There is always a way, always someone who will help guide you to find the “way”

PL Precept # 11    Always be with God

PL Principle #3   I will live with a mind of appreciation towards others and things.

Happy start to a new week!  My Little guy is hanging for now on a wall where I can enjoy his little smile.  The little imp is smiling.. he’s happy .. let’s spread the happiness.  Where ever he goes, the smile will go with him…

Last meal in Japan

IMG_1825

Knowing it would be a while before I would once more be in Japan, I surveyed the available restaurants well before I decided on where I would eat.  No fast take away, or the airport versions of western food, believe me the dishes all looked good, I was hungry.

IMG_1821

I had plenty of time, I decided on a venue that had a more traditional feel (for me).  I saw it as my last meal … and made the most of it.

IMG_1823

I obviously have a lot to tell you about, once I’m over this jet lag, I’ll talk more of the benefits of eating healthy, the talk I had with the doctor in Japan, (re. being diabetic)  The Japanese cultural history is world known for promoting good health and longevity. (Food)

Being without internet, social media, television, etc. for an extended period is very self revealing.

Ancestors Day is celebrated in the church of PL (Perfect Liberty on the 11th of every month)..  During and through out this ceremony we express our gratitude for the love and virtues of our ancestors,

An ancestor is  someone who you are thankful was in your life, and helped form the person you are today.  They had impact and brought positive, loving “gifts” into your life.  Many people can bring awareness into our lives, usually we take for granted those who love us, we are so embraced by their love that we don’t realize till they are gone that there is a void.

Love comes in many guises, I speak not of the physical intercourse/ fornication of man, but of  a mating that begins in the heart, that is given life by mutual respect and enduring love.  Genuine caring.  To find and share in such a partnership there has to be dialogue/communication that is heartfelt and stems from mutual desires and a respect for self.  Love begins within. . .Love is trust/ faith

Recall the expression, “different strokes for different folks” isn’t this adorable,  It’s a little build in Holland, The Veenpark,Banger-Compascuum*

We are all unique, in our own personal way, that is what is so wonderful about meeting and getting to know another person. I grew up in an age when we were encouraged to have pen pals. With the electronic age, snail mail seems to have gone the way of the 10 cent phone call.

Yet, the internet now provides us with opportunities that would have been unheard of in days gone by.  The meetings can be more frequent, and more direct if not face to face, they are still person to person. Respect becomes key, we may appear to be different, we may dress, walk, talk in a different manner, but we are still connected,  We all feel, we all have needs and wants, even though our experiences/challenges differ, we came to “be” in the same way.

Intriguing build  isn’t it.  So are the people around us.  Each person in your life, is a whole new landscape waiting to be discovered.  Accept and respect differences, strive for harmonious relationships.

c’est bien vendredi, como vai?

It is Friday, how are you today?  Happy sunny wishes to start your day!

Scotland, Shetland islands, 400-200BC

A look at the past, poignant yet alluring, we are drawn to explore, to wander to be awed.  Another time, a time when life was very different from what it is today.  Shetland Islands, Scotland  Does it capture your imagination, snare your attention, do you want to walk the path that so many have walked in bygone years,  Even now, today there are echos of visitors footsteps and the sound of distant conversation as people went about their day.

We live our lives everyday with a certain routine, we take certain roads, drive or walk along streets we see every day. If you work and take a bus to work, it  is usually the same bus and it follows the same route, day after day.  We shop in the same malls, or go to the usual markets all the time. Do you put your heart into all you do? Or because we have done it a thousand times  before, so you just get it done? In Asian teachings, we are asked to put our best effort into everything we do, whether or not it is a daily and repetitive task/chore or not.

While in Japan this past summer, in one of our assignments we were asked to do certain tasks, depending on which  group you were in, the tasks were different, some got to wash the bathrooms, some got to clean mats, sweep the roads, my group was asked to wash the hall floors.  Teachers, students, professionals, we all grabbed rags and down on our knees we cleaned the floors inch by  inch. (Noooooooooooooo I do not do this at home, it wasn’t a task I perform on a regular basis and certainly not on my knees, so what do you think my immediate reaction was!)  Old and young, we applied ourselves to working together and doing it.  Those who could no longer get down to the floor due to age, or physical limitations, manned the buckets, and rinsed the rags, ringing them out to hand to us as we brought a used one back.  Getting up and down from our knees and working in unison we chanted to stay focused and in step with each other.   To a city born and bred woman, it peeled away layers of self imposed thought patterns and opened up space in my “brain” for a greater and deeper awareness of being alive  and experiencing life.

Irealnd, DublinThis picture of Dublin in Ireland had me looking at it several times and finally with a magnifier because of the way the photographer shot the picture and how my eyes were seeing it.  The lights reflecting off the water had me wondering and trying to discern just what that was going across the river.  On closer inspection and because I made time to really look, I saw that it was the reflection of the bridge,

Today lets take the time, (make time) to enjoy every second of our day, even if you are doing something you have always done before, try to be mindful of your actions. Put makoto (sincerity) into all you do and say,   Have a good day everyone!  Where ever you are in your day when you read this.. smile.. I’m sending lots of love and positive energy your way… always, today, tomorrow.   Blessings…..     Oyashikiri
