I still have to figure out how to set up the story telling blog so that it attaches to the various sites, this one does. Thank you for your patience.
For anyone starting the new year with me, “chop suey” = a little of this and some of that. When Chinese cooks came to America and needed to create similar dishes to their own, What would be normal ingredients to them back home, was not available in the very early years, they adapted, using what was readily available and what they could grow in their new home.
Bone Soup, this morning’s breakfast, I add an egg for protein, The egg gives a rich taste to the broth. Egg is raw, when the boiling water engulfs the noodles and covers the egg, it marinades together. Yum
It is another cold day here. Someone used the phrase “bone chilling”… that reminded me that I had Bone Soup packages, my breakfast was decided. When I finish with my hot soup, I will make myself an ice coffee, with big fat ice cubes. I have put the coffee outside for it to chill …. when I say I like it cold, I mean COLD.
I found a small chess set yesterday that I thought the dolls could enjoy, and yes, they liked the idea. My husband set up the board for them (I don’t play) and explained the game to them. This I hope will keep them entertained over the week-end. My friend Tanya who also does doll displays I think is dressing her dolls for outdoor activities. Brrrr.. for the dolls to go out, that means the human has to accompany them to set up the display. Dolls are a creative pass-time…
When I wanted to be a fashion designer and model, I spent hours designing clothes and drawing the models to wear them. Today, I still like to do set designs, and make up stories for the “dolls” to portray. With our down sizing, I have had to part with a lot of “this and that” Some dolls had to be given up for adoption, they didn’t really work into my story telling.
The positive about downsizing, is that we are finding things we had long forgotten we had, or we knew we had .. but didn’t know where they were… sound familiar.
My roller skates didn’t have pink wheels, but I did have pink laces. I would still go roller skating if we had the kind I am used to. Mind you .. in my day we skated in special roller rinks, that were covered, and had hardwood floors. Before my time, they had bands that played for the skaters, by the time I was into skating, there was an organist who would play from 8 – 10 sometimes 11 for those of us who wanted to dance (on skates). Two steps and waltzes.
Later of course we had the disco phase.. where there were special skating places with disco music and lights. Usually big open rooms, where the figure skaters could do their spins and fancy solo footwork in the middle while the rest of us went around and around in time to the music.
My sister always groans when she sees my posts with abandoned buildings or old rusted out relics… but to me they are like memories. they spark my imagination. This one I received in a Pintrest notice. I have a board on Pinterest of “Once upon a time” places …Their software searches out “like” pictures from other posts, and send them to me to see if they interest me.
You have all seen the pictures I share with you of the places I find when my husband and I are touring the roads. I like character, history, and places that show a bit of eccentricity, personality .. even with the passing of time, the facial reconstruction done by nature these places still maintain an aura that compels and second look, maybe even a third and fourth.
Heading out soon, have errands to run, wanted to share a few minutes with you, say hello, and wish you all the best as you carry on with your day. If my friend North is out there, bundle up, some of that cold northern air you enjoyed, is wanting to bring you memories of days gone by .. but in doing so… is colouring our area too.
I heard last night, that the warmer air is on its way. Yay, a change will be nice. Drive carefully, where there is snow there is white out. If you are in a place that is sunny and warm… close your eyes and send a bit this way… wink.. imagination goes a long way, believing, makes it happen.
Loving hugs being sent your way..

Stagecoach road is a secondary highway that travels parallel to a more heavily travelled highway going from Ottawa, south towards the St. Lawrence. It ends at Hwy 43, the stretch of road I travelled the other day. Doesn’t really get a lot of heavy traffic, so it was a nice way to get to where I was going on a very hot humid day.
One side of the road is not built up so much as it is populated. There was an old apple orchard that is now being “civilized”.. however, I did pass a number of gravel pits, and a quarry or two. All this to say, it was a nice drive. My mind had a lot of time to dream up story lines, and imagine what life must have been like on this road, many years ago.
Yes I am a bit of a dreamer. Part of me wanted to simply stop the truck and just enjoy some of the views… but today was not the day, the area here, was under a weather warning, super duper heat. High heat, with lots of humidity. Back before we had weather warnings over the air waves, I’m sure people simply went about their business, no matter if it was sunshine, or rain.
Remember this picture I took on one of our travels, imagine it with a fresh coat of paint, brightly painted roof, with matching cheerful colours on the veranda, and all the vegetation, lush and green. There is no hydro, so windows and doors would be open hoping for a cross breeze.
Children would be playing in the fresh air, chasing a ball, a little dog yapping and playing along. A woman can be seen washing clothes in a wash tub out back. On a clothes line, there are sheets drying under the full rays of the sun. Except for the cawing of the birds, and the sound of the little dog barking, there is nothing but the laughter of the happy children as they run and play, enjoying the day.
There would be no constant roar of traffic, racing by, the Mother need not worry about strangers arriving unannounced, the stage-coach would pass only twice a day, and it would only ride down the travelled road going from village to village. nowhere near this little home. What today, takes us less than an hour, would be a whole day’s journey over dusty roads, through dense forest, and overgrown vegetation, on roads, often only wide enough for 1 carriage at a time.
All this from taking the journey down Stagecoach Road, when I looked it up .. I saw that there are other Stagecoach Roads in other Provinces, and States.
What does a Stagecoach Road, conjure up for you?
Some time, some days, I do get lost in time and space/place. Life was so different at one time, yet, where I can romanticize what it must have been like, the reality is, I am such a city girl, I would be totally lost without the comforts of my home today.
PL Precept #20 Live maintaining equilibrium between mind and matter
off in the distance,
under the afternoon skies
they saw the same grouping
that they were looking at
just down the path
half covered by vines
Neither spoke
they stood rooted on the spot
another mystery
to be uncovered
Yvette arrived earlier
Clementine was due next week
excitement was building
Rosie promised she would
let them explore her
chest of drawers
they still had no idea
where the music came from
it happened when she was
working in her room,
and now, double statues
3 maidens high above
and 3 maidens on the ground
somewhere there was a clue
quietly no words spoken
they turned
walking deeper into the gardens.
neither saw the chest hidden further in
from where they had been standing.

Kit took the hats outside, they would be perfect for the visit back to the early 1900’s what was it she heard, 1934, or was it 1944. Whatever, she knew that when they called her in, she would be ready for the part. She had carefully taken them out of the storage box, and cleaned them. They had been outside drying in the hot heat of the afternoon sun.
Inside, Nellie, Ivy and Elizabeth were busy making their plans too. They had been called in earlier and told that they were going to be assigned to the project that was heading back to the mid 1940’s .. They would have to study and read up on all the information that they had so that they could interact in the best way possible. They would also have to talk to Kit, since that was her special time period.
The did wonder how come Kit had not been included in the assignment, but it was not their decision to make, nor their place to ask questions. They had over a month to prepare.
When they saw Kit come in they couldn’t wait to tell her their news. Each was so excited, that at first it didn’t register that Kit had gone very quiet. It was only when Ivy asked Kit, if she would like to sit in and help them in their planning. that they noticed, that she hesitated.
Kit excused herself, saying she had something to do, then fled to her room. Alone in her room, she felt sad and disappointed. She was not going with them. She brooded for a while, then thought, she would talk it over with her friend ChenMay.
In talking it over with her friend, she realized that it wasn’t her friends fault that they were given this assignment. She knew they would be good at it, and that it would give them the opportunity to visit and experience something she already knew. AND they had asked her for help to plan. She would be involved, just not going.
That meant, as ChenMay had helped her to realize, she would going on a different adventure, something brand new to her. Now that was exciting.
She felt so blessed that she had such good friends and team mates. The gloom had lifted, and her appreciation for her friends grew. It WAS a beautiful day, her smile lit up the room. ChenMay was happy too, she had shared quality time with her friend, so she was smiling too…
Happy Ending
Expectations, when we allow ourselves to build expectations, we leave ourselves open for disappointment. Wait till you have access to all the facts, and believe that you will always be where you should be when the time comes.

How nice, another birthday card. Rosie sipped on her tea, and listened as the movers grunted and called out to each other about the best way to get whatever it was they were moving into the house. Her birthdays usually came and went without much fanfare, but this time, she had to admit, all the activity of getting the “girls” settled in was a lot of fun.
Each was so different, and the luggage and pieces of furniture that were arriving each day, was so fascinating. So far, the silver dragon sculpture had been the best, although the very old roll top desk was also interesting. packages of odd sizes and shapes arrived day and night. She was so glad she had accepted the offer to be here.
Even her old chest of drawers fit in, her room was big enough for her to enjoy the privacy of her room when she needed it. Yet close enough to the kitchen and public area, for her to keep an eye on the coming and goings of the participants in the project that had brought them all together.
Birthdays were such happy times. She wondered how old she was… but then, catching sight of herself in the mirror, she smiled. Who cares she thought.. It is how I feel, and darn it all, I feel pretty good.
*knock *knock…” Roses for Ms Rosie”…. said a voice…
The day just couldn’t get any better thought Rosie. Every day was so full of surprises.!
We hope you had a grand day dear friends… join us again for tidbits on Rosie and her friends.
