the road ahead

We’ve all been on such a road, it goes somewhere, but we don’t know where. It is not open to traffic, you want to see what is at the end, you have to hoof it (walk) or bicycle. Fortunately for me, a young man and his charge came along on bikes, because my feet were draggin.. I flagged him down, did he know this road, and yes he did. “how far do I have to go till I reach the end?” “See up ahead, around the curve?”

he pointed up to where the above road barriers were .. you can just make them out in the first picture.

“When you get to the bend, the road will change from pavement to gravel, you will be about half way” Wow, I was going to be late for my 10:30 – 11 a.m appointment, I would have to turn back. No way could I manage to do the whole walk and get back in time.. besides my legs were telling me I’d already been doing enough walking for the day.

obviously at one time, this was a well travelled road. but no more. It is all part of the NCC green space now.
you can see remnants of old fences now.. once all the growth starts to happen, this may not be so visible.

As I walked back to my car, I wondered how it must have been, likely there had been animals out in the pastures that are now slowly being over taken with vegetation again. I saw a lot of creeks and water beds.. it will be fun to explore on another day.

This area, where the blocked off road is, is not the part of Dewberry where most of the hiking, snowshoeing, X-cross country is done. But I’m told the rewards are worth the walk, especially in another few weeks when there will be flowers a lot of interesting vegetation at another observation deck that has been built out over the water.. Trick is you got to get there, and it is a hike. Hiking through the trails is walking on trampled earth, the terrain is very different, this walk along the road, is just that.. you are walking on a paved road. I’ll tell you about the unpaved part when I actually get to do it.

Thanks for sharing this part of the journey with me.

We are all wonderful in our own way… Although results are important, your effort is what is truly precious.

he was a long way from me.. but I did manage to get a picture before he took off on me.

Canada Geese

What can I say, I went out without a camera, the Nikon and the Canon were left hanging on their hooks… never even entered my mind to have them with me. Then I found myself alone in the sun with two Canada Geese who were happy to spend time with me preening and dining. I got to see the underside of the bird as it dived down to forage from the lake bed. No camera and none of my photographer friends in sight. Thankfully I had my cell (Samsung) so I did manage a couple of pictures, and I took a couple of videos.. however, I have no idea how to transfer them from the phone to my PC… eventually.. I’ll get there. =^_^=

An hour on my own with them before other humans came along, and they took flight. There is something to be said about experiencing the “wild” and the natural “harmonies” that abound in nature with out the jarring sounds that humans and their “toys” make.

You’re happy. I’m happy. Have the mindset of “good for you, good for me” Express yourself in a way that makes others happy.

Wednesday !!!

drudgery

You can get all dressed up, do your hair, pretend its going to be a glamour day, but no matter how you cut the cake, if there is work to be done, or matters to be attended to that aren’t fun… You have to set your mind to the task and get it done.

giving a presentation can be fun, interesting and certainly if it is appreciated .. rewarding

Usually there is always a lot of hard work and effort that goes into putting/pulling something off in a seamless fashion, or presenting a “brilliant” feature documentary. For a brief time we can look very professional and maintain a certain air of efficiency and know how. BUT, we all need down time, and we all, each and everyone of us, needs time to regroup, to be still, to reconnect with our inner Selves.

Catching up and sharing time with friends.. that is IMPORTANT too. Here Alo was visiting with Sister Qu who is the resident hokyoshi (assistant minister) at the PL Center in Second Life. http://www.secondlife.com

The teachings of PL, the 21 Precepts and 21 Principles, are what help us navigate through the world we live in today… Stay in touch with what grounds you… what keeps you mentally and physically alert and positive. Life is too important to squander.

I’ve had a personal encounter with each of the above birds. They have a way of looking at you that is very interesting, they can be looking straight ahead, at least their head is facing forward, but I swear that they are looking right at me. I’ve had many an early morning conversation with one woodpecker or another. I realized today, that I will miss them when I am not spending as much time in the woods. It was an interesting observation. I’ve come to know so many different birds over the last year.. … there is something special about how the woodpecker relates… it doesn’t take flight like other birds do…. when an intruder comes along. Most will take off to a higher place where they can watch and scoop out the situation… The woodpecker, will often just simply move around the tree away from immediate view, and take in the stranger(s) without too much of a fuss. The ones that came regularly when I was around, almost ignored my presence.. they were not concerned by my activities. In fact, there is one at Mer Bleue that makes me wait when I want to refill the feeder till he/she is ready to move. Mais oui, but yes, I wait… he/she was there first! =^_^=

It is mid week everyone…

Sunday confession

I ate a Russell Stover Marshmallow Egg

I ate an oeuf de guimauve – as a diabetic I know better, but as a woman with a tendency to sometimes bend the rules… every year when they first come out and appear on the shelves, beckoning from the displays as we go to the cash, I succumb. I didn’t eat it right away, no I put it aside, saying I will share when a friend comes over..

The halo slipped, and then it fell off completely. I ate the whole thing. all 28g of dark chocolate sugar, unsweetened dark chocolate cocoa butter, milk and……

instant headache

For every action there is a reaction. I know better, of course I do. – who do you think went to bed with a headache.!

WE are responsible for our actions!

Will I have learned a lesson… sometimes I feel like the little mouse in the cage with the wonderful toys, one being a colourful wheel that goes around and around.

Service is at 10: a.m. see you all there!

For those of you who are not near and will not be attending, I have have you in my heart and will include you in my prayers! I love and appreciate each and every one of YOU.

Always and forever.

Weka a new bird (for us)

saw this bird on Shirley’s FB page. What a character!

I was interested so I asked. LOL I was told about what a pest these birds can be and how loud and “many” they are. They are native to and live in NZ, so we won’t be visited by one soon… Thought I’d share this clip I found on the bird. It is called a Weka.

Thursday’s magic

To say it was was a picture perfect day, would be an understatement. It was magical. The trees were bowed under with the snow .. I was glad I had made the effort to get to the feeders. It was rather fun to put my hood up and then reach up and shake snow off the heavily laden branches so that the tree could raise itself up again. I managed some of the branches, not all, a few were just too heavily burdened, and too high for me to get at where I could shake and be productive.

I did get to clear the feeders tho’ and replace seed in the ones that had been depleted … It was interesting that a few of the birds found I was being a tad too slow and almost shoved me along or landed on my arm and tried to reach down and take the seeds/nuts from my container. The area where I sit was in an area that was covered by heavily snow laden branches.. I cleared the space and sat anyway, I simply put up my hood so that the wet snow wouldn’t cause a chill on my head. I’m surprising even myself at how I am adapting to being otudoors. I told one reader, I am thinking I’d like to have a folding lawn chair in the car, so I can just sit and bask in the warmth of the sun… away from the feeders.. but where I can still hear them chatting away, squabbling or just being cheerful. Why not. Will have to hunt one up.

Let’s find the joy in everything. are you looking for things to complain about? Let’s change our perspective and live a cheerful and joyful life.

Monday smiles

CREATIVE bit of fun found on FB

There is a lot of creativity out there.. Kudos to whoever did this picture. I tried to trace it back, the person I contacted had also come across it on a public page, and had used it. Whoever you are out there, please know you have given myself and many others a delightful moment and big smiles. Thank you.

The day was full of surprises, it had been a super long day, I was exhausted and ready to turn in.. Before shutting down I decided to take one last look at my mail. Bless his thoughtful heart, Kevin had dropped in with a picture for me. If you are not already familiar with his work, please check him out on Instagram,

Oyashikiri

Have a great week everyone!

dreams

promise of things to come

A friend took this picture many years ago, he is someone who came into my life at a time I needed a special friend, he became that friend, His kindness, gentle heart and curiosity about life and relationships was heart warming and had great appeal. He showed me another side of friendship, one I had not explored before. He had a dedicated way of dealing with family/ life that was honest, I appreciated his energy in my life very much. He sent me this picture one day.. I loved it. Tucked it away, so that I would always have a reminder of the “freshness and beauty of/in new life ” that abides in our world.

The gentle kiss of the morning sun embrace the young shoots as they emerge from their sleep .. the melting snow that had blanketed their world, was now nourishing them with its sweet gentle liquid drops. From the harshness of winter & the sweet caresses’ of the soothing warmth in the morning sun, new life was raising up to meet the day. Love so pure, so beautiful, captured in that moment. For me, always to be remembered.

Love is not a dream, love is real.

Once lived, once shared, can never be forgotten.
forever – always
