Yesterday the world came together to mourn the loss of one of the most loved saxophonists of all time, Wayne Shorter. He passed away Thursday morning in Los Angeles at the age of 89. His lyrical jazz compositions and pionering saxophone playing sounded through more than half a century. He was an influential jazz musician who over the span of his career touched the lives of many aspiring musicians. In 2015 he was given a lifetime achievement Grammy. He was foundational member of two of the most seminal jazz groups: Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and the Miles Davis Quintet. Someone said ” his composition and delivery are otherworldly”.
I myself in listening and researching his life and music found his music to have a “haunting” quality. Last night in a tribute to him (an hour tribute in SL by performer/saxophonist. Trowzer Boa (Dave Renz), we were reminded of how much he loved to explore the sights/sounds of the Orient. He was an innovator during an era of change.
Herbie Hancock (@herbiehancock) on Twitter said his best friend Wayne Shorter “left us with courage in his heart, love and compassion for all, and a seeking spirit for the eternal future” He went on to say. “as it is with ever human being, he is irreplaceable”. Thank you Herbie for a sentiment that says it all.
Check his smile, he had the gentlest smile and he used it often, his music will live on, he wrote and played his “heart/soul” sharing his “vision”…He was a jazz visionary.
Your smile is what’s needed. A smile invites happiness and cheer and is essential to energize others as well as yourself.
Move forward with confidence. Experiences you have acquired through efforts so far are wonderful. Give it all you’ve got.

The skies are cloudy and overcast – we have snow falling again..but it is mild. yesterday I did get my walk around the bog in. The above is the winter landscape that faced me. The world was quiet, the bird were busy at the feeders enjoying the fresh sunflower seeds with bonus tidbits of a variety of worms. The woodpeckers were showing their appreciation for the new suet blocks. We all enjoyed the comfortable community we were able to share. An early bird photographer came along, other than that, it was quiet on the home front.
Check with your church – all the snow should be cleared in time for service tomorrow, but check with Rev. Eugene San if you are in this area where there is a winter storm warning in place.

Stay safe everyone!
If you are travelling for the Chinese New Year, please be careful.
if you were to imagine you could be anywhere, would you like to be in a walled garden or in an open space with a view that goes on for miles. contemplate the silence within the walled garden, and then move to the open space and listen again…
Listen to others until the end. If you put your thoughts first, you will not be able to listen to others until the end. Firstly, listen to others to the end, and understand them well.
I went out. All was going well until I encountered a tree knocked over by the high winds (over a hydro power line) to avoid the tree I maneuvered to the left to go around and slid off the road coming to rest against another tree. This tree prevented my opening the door of the car, and the car being on an angle I couldn’t get out the passenger side.. which is just as well since when the fire dept and police arrived, it was discovered it had fallen over a hydro line.
To say I was a tad “upset” … would define my reaction. I had just fed the crows, and had a satisfying visit with them… so simply sat in the car at first not knowing what to do first. It was a country round with few homes on it.. it led to a dead end (parking lot for the Mer Bleue bog) A crow flew over and looked into the car.. that startled me into action) I pushed the On Star button on my car, within seconds I had an operator on the line…The responding agent was very good, he stayed calm, and walked me through what he was going to do, and what he needed me to do.
Of course #1 was … was I hurt… did I require medical assistance. He already knew from my Gps exactly where I was, he was able to give the 911 agent, the coordinates in detail. That took away any of the anxiety or stress I was getting from the questions she was asking. He answered technical questions on my location, where I was in relation to the map she was looking at, how many kilometers I was in from the main road etc. Then he stayed with me while we waited for the emergency crews to get to me. It was very reassuring. He did not leave me till the fire department and police arrived.
I think it is the first time I have watched a fire truck approaching me with all its lights going and felt such a sense of relieve. The police car was right behind the fire truck. As soon as the fire personnel arrived and he heard them talking to me, only then did the ON STAR agent sign off.
The men who responded were so kind, calm and responding to the situation with such a professional yet warm manner that I was immediately at ease with them. My car was wedged tight against the tree in the ditch. I could hear them talking over their options. The police officer who took the lead in dealing with me (the “victim”) also asked me whether or not we needed the medical/ambulance to come.. I assured him I was OK, I did not need medical attention. the ambulance was canceled, it could be needed elsewhere after all, there were accidents all over the city.
With no damage to city property, it was decided I should call a tow truck, but…. bless their hearts the men (Fire Department) gathered around the car and together, got the car angled so it could be driven out of the ditch an unto the road. They were AMAZING. AND somehow while all this was happening a few of them managed to clear the tree from the road. They checked to make sure the car was ok to drive, and sent me on my way.
Then while I was at the feeders, I saw the truck drive by the round about slowly, turning itself around to get off the side road…. it made a second drive by, I waved and believe me… I was sending them a lot of love and gratitude. It is so easy to take for granted what these men/women do, we don’t engage with them unless we have a problem like I did today.
Their professional and effective/efficient way of dealing with would could have been a very serious and life affecting situation made the incident one I won’t forget, AND left me feeling very good about the world I live in. Too often we hear only of the negatives… The police and the firefighters do a lot we don’t see or hear about – they impact a lot of lives… we are richer as a community for their services.
Yes I had an accident, Yes, it was stressful, BUT I came away with a feeling of joy and happiness at having had that encounter with men who knew their jobs and were not only good logistically at what they needed to do, they were kind and generous of spirit.
They ( the operator at ON STAR, Fire Department, and Ottawa Police) were angels in disguise. For me it was a Xmas gift I will never forget.
If ever ever I have any doubt that the holiday season has arrived, I visit friends who know just how to celebrate the season. Every year their home is one huge present to the neighbourhood. At night the house, trees, and inside are a festive kaleidoscope of colour. The one tree you see is festooned with hundreds of ornaments. Every year I get to meet new pieces.
The house is ablaze with cheerfulness, no matter where you look, there is colour, sparkle and the joyful wonder of the season … this takes hours and days to do. Their makoto (sincerity) in sharing their love of the season… echoes and vibrates in the atmosphere. That little nose you see is one of 5 little pups, maybe all of 5, 6 weeks old.. The other dogs, whippets and borzoi were resting in their crates. Believe it or not.. the house is usually full of active dogs.. yet the decorations and except for one or two favourite ornaments – the welcoming scene remains intact for all to enjoy.
If you’re going to do it, give it your best effort. Your actions will be dulled if you worry too much about the outcome. Once you decide on a course of action, don’t hesitate to complete your task.

With the fall colours right now you can feel the world is vibrant. if you have a guardian angel right now.. he/she is helping you with encouragement and confidence you need to explore territories and areas unknown to you. We are encouraged to move forward, luck and prosperity is in the air. =^_^= Bom dia!!!
It is easier to adapt to something when we find it interesting. No matter how enjoyable a situation is, a slight change in our attitude can make it boring. Let’s face any situation with curiosity and enthusiasm.

When we saw 10 10 we used to say, we would be receiving unconditional love from the Universe. It was a very positive sign. I wish you all a wonderful week.
Oh could be a bit nippy out there, frost advisory over the next few days.. at 5:49 a.m it is 55 Degrees F, that’s not bad… It will be a good outing this morning.

wild turkeys live in community
This is a time to give thanks for all the blessings we have been given… show appreciation…. life is good when we are blessed with family and friends that care. a smile goes a long way!
The blue jay was not going to be intimidated.. you can see his blue behind the wild turkeys who once they discovered that there was “food’ on the ground, were not keen on moving off or away. They ran off at first, but one plucky one turned back to see just what was being offered. Once he discovered this was a mega of food, he applied himself to the task of eating all he could before the others realized why he was not following them.
It was very interesting to see how when the others saw he was not coming, he was busy eating .. there was no hesitation on most of their parts… to join him. Some did go off, not all were prepared to back track. Mind you they stayed in sight… just deemed not to return to the feeding area. I took myself off to walk the boardwalk, it was cool, but bright… I hoped to get a few fall colours in.

Tanabata is based on the legendary meeting of two stars, Hikoboshi and Orihime, which are represented by Altair and Vega, respectively. After his marriage to Orihime, Hikoboshi idled away and didn’t work. An angry god split Hikoboshi and Orihime apart from the two banks of the Milky Way. However the god permitted Hikoboshi and Orihime to reunite once a year on July 7. So Tanabata is held on that day every year, and it is said to be the day lovers can reunite.(translated from Japanese to English in Japan)
The romantic in me loves that there is a day set aside for “lost love/s/ers” There is always a place in my heart for someone who has brought me pleasure, shown me kindness, taken time to get to know me, spend time with me. In today’s “throw away” society/culture, we often forget that each moment we live/experience life… that moment is etched in our “being”. To know sadness, we have had to have experienced happiness. Love is in every breath we take, it is like the air we breathe. Unseen but ever present.
