life = art

wall art, hung 3.27.17

Art is subjective.  Art takes on many forms and is never really something that people will  agree on.  Style, techniques, presentation, so many many varieties and opinions.

As an “artist” I begin with an empty canvas or sometimes with one I’ve seen at a thrift and want to repurpose.  It is amazing how effective gesso is at wiping out what was previously on the canvas.  In this case I covered up a rather mundane picture of leaves and shrubs with black gesso (Demco) used for oil and acrylic.

This little character started out full-bodied, but somehow, he didn’t like what was happening, and as other artists will tell you.. it wasn’t long before, he took on a life of his own. Happens when writing too.  The story line you have had in your head for days, starts to take shape on the screen, your fingers are typing away, your mind is playing out the scene…  it is all so smooth, so “happening”.. till you stop and take a breather…. you see the plot has taken turns, even you didn’t expect.

Is it “intuition” what happens when we are creative, when we try to reproduce the ideas in our mind to paper, canvas or other form of expression.  How often do we hear the expression.. “life happens”  or “sh#t happens”  Sometimes it is super cool, great, awesome even, and other times, it is a lot of , darn, cripes, and %@%# !  Whatever, there is always a consequence  to our actions.

IN PL we learn … that every day is a new beginning.  We learn to be creative with any and all challenges /opportunities that come our way.  Most importantly to appreciate the lessons, and outcomes of the day.

There is always a way, always someone who will help guide you to find the “way”

PL Precept # 11    Always be with God

PL Principle #3   I will live with a mind of appreciation towards others and things.

the art of Ice

here today, gone tomorrow

to be there when the sunshine is so strong

the ice turns to crystal liquid

flowing happily

merrily

down into the ground

Now, the ice is in suspended art form

waiting for the temperatures to raise

then like glistening liquid fire

it will flow

to the earth below

wanting – doing

joy 3.22.17Remember the other day, I posted this start of a new “expression”  She was joyful, I felt her energy and couldn’t wait to get back and work on her with a new media that I’ve found rather interesting.  Previously I have played with it in very small  sections of a piece I had been working on, and realized that to get the desired effect as shown in demos I’d seen, I would have to be more liberal with the product.

The product is made by a well known supplier Pebeo, I have often used their paints, their pigments are strong, vibrant,.. so I was keen.  The Vitrail. Prisma and Moon, Fantasy series all have the toxic danger symbol on them…   but for some unknown reason (to me) I saw but didn’t think any more of it.  I knew to be careful, and recalled having worked with such media before.

What I didn’t take into consideration was my reaction to the fumes, especially to the cleaning solvent needed to clean brushes, stir sticks etc. good ole turpentine..  Needless to say, soon enough I was feeling the  results of my being in the close proximity of the paints and the solvents.  Even after a day out in the fresh air, my head was not willing to deal with the fumes of the products.

So… that said.. my “Joy”, is being put on hold, she is still drying, for the paints to finish interacting  with themselves and to dry could take up to 72 hours or more… depending on the density ..how it was used etc.  My “Joy” is now continuing her drying process in the sun room.  All brushes, and waste (cleaning cloths, paper etc.) have been emptied outside.

Sometimes we want something, or we think we do, but the Universe has other lessons, or experience for us to live.  When Joy is all dry, I’ll re-address her possibilities..  maybe she has had enough too.  Who knows.

PL Precept #6  Efface your self conceptions.

PL Precept # 7   Everything exists in Relativity.

note.. this is a truly fabulous media, check out the videos on YouTube,  I have a sensitivity that doesn’t mean you will.  I should have remembered why I don’t work with oils is just not because of the time it takes to dry.  =^_^=   We are all different and unique.

=^)^=   thank God for that!!!!!   smile… life is good!

paint time

P1000646

Good day everyone….

No two artists when looking at a blank canvas see the same thing.  Two photographers looking in the same area, along the same street, will each have a different “capture” in their lens.  Ever heard these words.. ” you were there, didn’t you see bla bla bla”   Well, you both might have been there at the same time, but you both very likely didn’t see the same things.  Each would have viewed the scene or circumstances from his/her own perspective.

Now the word “artist” what does it imply?   Or the word “crafter”  are they one and the same… hmmmm. you thinking about it?

Does it come down to how quickly you want your pant to dry?  No two mediums dry the same way ,even when choosing an ink pad, you have to know what you want to do with the ink you are using.. if you use the wrong kind, your inks can bleed or run… even when you thought it was dry… kinky right..

P1000647

That is why I love life and all the artist challenges it provides.  When I make the wrong choice, .. I get to start over or try to work with the results of my 1st choice. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it just doesn’t.  A friend draws in chalk, she lives the moment, when it is gone, she has lived the experience,  and moves on.. that is a beautiful way to let go.

I loved the play of shadows and light on the bramble above.  It struck me at that moment that it was full of intrigue. Today should I see it again, I might not give it a second glance. It would simply be a mass of twigs and branches waiting for spring  and rejuvenation.

La vie est belle, it is our perception that can cloud or colour our view.

I prefer arylic and water colours to oil… why…. paint time… =^_^=

PL Precept #1  Life is Art

two pictures one”mind”

black-nite-3-3-17a

Too tired to think, I reach for my brush, then change my mind and take the paint tube itself and simply lay the paint down,  There is no though no reason, or rhyme, my mind takes over, my hands follow directions.

horse-3-3-17

The previous night I felt tired, but I was happy, the colours and my strokes seemed to flow with ease and at a different pace.  I smiled as I posted this picture on Instagram, saying, can you see the face, or what can you see?  I was playful, I slept well.

The top picture was painted when I needed release from the stress of the day, conflict and sadness welled up inside as I faced the reality, yet again, that because you have a sibling, doesn’t mean you have a friend. In fact to feel hatred from someone you’ve known a life-time is really a very sad and hurtful  moment.

We can choose our friends, but not family.  We can walk away, we can close the door, disrespect and uncontrolled hatred that sounds in loud decibel at and around you.. is like walking into a war zone without protection. I choose to turn and walk away.

We all make choices, self-preservation is high on my list. I choose love, happiness = GOD.  With GOD in my life, I will work at being a better person.

Thank you to all of you who worry and call me, I’m fine, life is what it is.. God willing Mother will transfer over to a peaceful place, no more pain.. freedom will be hers. She had a long and happy life, she knows her family loves her, and that is everything.  Knowing you are loved, and God is with you.

being true

skyline-march-2-17

Being true to one’s self – and trying to fit in to what the traditions and customs of others might be, can be a challenge.  A simple conversation between son and parent can be very enlightening.  Whether we are aware of it or not, what we say, how we say it can impact on someone else, and we may never know just how that conversation will play out over the years.  It is when one day you are chatting and the off spring says something, that resonates with you.  You react to the statement, and of course, the two of you are sympatico, you agree on the pronouncement… however, the delivery of same is coming back at you or to you in a manner that is not what you would have thought the way it could have been expressed. (“my” reaction)

Honesty IS very important, and expressing One’s true feelings and thoughts IS what is taught, but some how another important ingredient has to come into the mix. Awareness of the feelings of others, and that not everyone deals with life the way we do.

A dear friend that I share the “passion” for creativity with saw my  picture (shown above) I don’t usually name my expressions, because I find that when I do, it confines it to MY thoughts at the moment.. and limits its potential.  I could pick it up and work on it again, altho’ I seldom do that.. except I am learning.. this technique, requires working in stages because I prefer to let the medium dry on its own.  I digress.. this is not a how to on painting, when “possum” saw it, she came back with…  is this about the 7 new planets that have been discovered….   totally foreign to me, never crossed my mind, but her words, were like WOW..    oh I like… she gave me a totally different perspective with her simple “reaction” to my post to her.

All of a sudden, my expression took on new life for me.. and now when I look at it, I wonder where it came from… who did that, and what were they thinking when they did it..

A gift we all have, is the ability to communicate with others… how we interact, and how we accept, retain, and use the constant flow of information and ideas… is a wonderful, complex and amazing part of life.

We are each and every one of us, unique in our own way, appreciate and learn from the information that comes our way, and always, do your best to maintain a positive outlook.

Life is beautiful, and so are YOU.
