Why….

There is something so magical about watching the sun make its appearance . A brand new day. New beginning, a fresh perspective, how wonderful the moment is when you see it between the trees teasing and tempting. There is no way I can ignore the majesty of it all.

There isn’t another car in sight, I slow down, looking for that perfect moment to stop the car… of course when I get out of the car, my view is different, and I have to walk around the car and walk up or back down the road to see if I can catch the glowing ball of fire before it drifts out of my sight.

The birds are quiet today, ok, well not all of them, the nuthatch are not carrying on, but the Jays are being absolutely silly. I’ve spoiled them, usually as soon as I get out of the car, I throw out handfuls of peanuts in a shell. LOL … now they expect it.. The evening grosbeaks are being patient, I can hear one or two of them begin their song. But… I’m still focused on getting a picture… which I did.. and only then did I dutifully go tend my charges.

Get things started with Grit. If you work on things in daily life with the attitude of “let’s do it!” you will feel a power to accomplish things. People around you will rely on you.

I have been tired a lot of late. So much so, it has been a bit of a worry. YET the Vitamines D and B the magnesium and and and.. that were recommended sit on my counter. Not being opened or used. What is it with me (part of me) anyway! What I have been doing, is still cleaning up (per Chinese New Year tradition) and yesterday…. finally…. I took out the “brasso” (cleaner) and cleaned my prayer bowls.

Have you ever found yourself in conversation with a squirrel. How they will look right back at you in pure defiance. There are a couple of the little red ones that are just a little bigger than a minute.. they are loud, noisy, have a lot to say … and are determined that if you want them to go away, they are going to show you, they are going to stay. I recognize that behaviour…. Have been known to display “some” of that annoying stubbornness myself.

Compromise makes things more complicated. if you go against your intuition and compromise because circumstances or conditions, things tend to get more complicated than they need to be. Always focus on the priorities and act accordingly.

Be grateful for everything. express gratitude. Be open to new possibilities. Accept everything with appreciation. Small changes can bring about a fresh outlook

The Lunar new year is a celebration of “family” of “community” we begin weeks before the actual full moon, we clean our homes, (literally/figuratively) our “minds” “hearts”.. we examine, we reflect on the past year, and humbly express our apperception to God/Universe for all the blessings of the past year/month and sincerely ask to be guided and protected by the grace of Oyashikiri in the coming days/weeks/months.

People take time off, business’s close not for the day but often for a week or more so that family members that need to travel, can make their way home for the holiday/celebrations that will take place in their home towns/villages etc.

It is a joyous time, if you are blessed to have community/family to share the time with, all the better, but it is also a time (in my case) for spiritual renewal, and self acceptance/understanding and appreciation …

Please note… Due to the service this evening at the church, there will be no Sunday service tomorrow. Service tonight will be at 7 pm if you can make it.

Where ever you are, whatever you are doing – may the Universe smile down on you and yours now and always bringing much Happiness ……Joy……Prosperity and ….. Good Health.

For days, weeks I have been pulling things out of dark corners of my work room, have I used this, will I use it. I have filled two big tote boxes with craft/art supplies, that someone else can use. The calendar new year is coming and I like to have “things” started for the new year. In my case, the target date is January 22, when it will be the lunar new year (Chinese New Year) it changes every year depending on the lunar cycle.

It has been an interesting time, “why” have I got so much of “this and that”.. how many pairs of scissors do I need? Card stock!!! let me tell you about card stock… the quality of what was “normal” years ago, is long gone. If it is around, it must be speciality stock and very pricey. The other day I bought cookies to have should I have visitors over the holidays. I was shocked when I opened the box to find 3 rows instead of 4 and the size of the cookie … were considerably smaller. Have you purchased a box of chocolate covered marshmallow cookies lately?

todays’ meditation.. simply said, hard to keep in mind all day!

PL Principle #2 I will not have complaints about others, matters, nor the weather. Rather I will always be creative and will look for shortcomings in my own thinking and actions.

This little character was going to have his place on the plate no matter what any other bird had to say about it. He clearly felt that he was there first, and was going to partake until he was finished. The other bird was totally unfazed, unfortunately he moved and was too blurred to keep in the picture. Personalities, we all have them!!

Kindness

Kindness – Yesterday I was blown away by the kindness of friends who wanted to “touch base”, and came by. With the Chinese New year soon to be at our doorstep, I was surprised by a visit from one of my cherished friends that I have not seen much of because of the pandemic .. yes we can chat on the phone, but to get to actually see her and experience her smile and vibrant personality at close range was a true JOY for me. I feel a silent tear slipping down my cheek, but I assure you it is one of happiness.

As you know, I left home with out my cell yesterday, it happens, I am focused on getting the food ready for the crows, feeding the dogs etc. before I leave.. and the cell is not on my mind. This of course means, not only was it not there for me to use when I wanted it, but friends calling me, could not reach me. Knowing I had not had my phone with me, didn’t mean much to me except the inconvenience of not being able to use the camera when I wanted to.

What I didn’t think of, was that family, friends trying to reach me were unable to …. that is not a problem in itself, but eventually one sees the messages and calls back. However, I am of a generation where a phone was not in my life at all, and then when it was, it was attached to the building, and the one setting on it .. was a loud ring if someone called your number. So of course I came home and went about doing my “business” unaware that I had had calls and that there were messages I should be addressing.

I was therefore surprised and delighted early evening to find my niece and nephew at the door with my wild and wonderful dog niece Lily… again there had been a message and I had not responded. Their thoughtfulness, kindness was doubled when Lily came barging in (she is almost 5 months now and probably 50 pounds of furry energy) and took no listen to her “parents” as she charged in wanting to ensure that all was well. Both my dogs, one more senior than the other I think were taken back by such highly charged activity. It was a fun delightful 15- 20 minutes of chasing, hugging and kissing (the puppy and I )

Kindness should never be under estimated or taken for granted. My visitors and callers yesterday, made my day a truly sensational event. I am filled with gratitude that I have family and friends who are such genuine delights. I truly am blessed.

My friend Shirley (whose pictures I often share with you)… lives in NZ, altho’ we have never met in person, we have been in each others lives since very early days. Probably over 50 years. We began as penpals. Yes before internet, when people communicated by writing letters and using stamps. You would wait impatiently for mail to arrive from distant places, to hear news from friends who you corresponded with .. then when the letter arrived you read about what your friend had been doing and saw pictures (yes, black and white or colour) taken with cameras where you had to wait to finish a roll, get the film developed.. and then wait for that service to be provided to get your pictures..) Our friendship has endured. She takes wonderful pictures of her hometown, and her interests, I am blessed with her kindness, she gives me permission to share her world with you (my friends).

Experience the JOY of being KIND to others. The Joy of expressing kindness to others is much greater than when someone does something kind for you. Always strive to be a person who can be kind to others.

FYI the Chinese New Year this coming lunar year will fall on January 25th. For many the close proximity of the two new year celebrations will mean a lot of activity and energy. The Chinese new year is focused very much on “family”. Leading up to this important time of year, we “clean” our “homes”, physically and mentally.

For those familiar with the I Ching. Hexagon 58 Tui the top three lines mirror the bottom ones. broken line, followed by two unbroken lines.

Lunar Dog Year

Year 2018 —— Dog (earth )

Dogs are capable and knowledgeable, and it is not unusual to see Dog people in high demand in the job market. Dogs like to work at whatever career they choose. Prince William, Elvis, Cher, George Gershwin, Mother Teresa, were born in Dog years

As a partner Dogs are extremely loyal although they think they know best, it is fortunate that they are usually open-minded. and will be open to advice. Generally speaking with their sensitive and compassionate heart, they do well in occupations or careers that “serve” or work in the best interest of others. ie. teachers, charity workers, doctors etc.

Unlike other Dog years the Earth Dog is less idealistic than most Dogs, the Earth element makes them practical enough they don’t lose sight of reality.

In China dogs are usually associated with justice and compassion.

We are living at a time, when the plus, positive characteristics of the Dog, could stand us in good staid.

Good morning everyone. I thought I would start today to talk about laziness. Seriously this is one of my “work on it” traits or “flaws” Being a visual person, I woke to a perfect example to share with you.

This is a game I play on my iPhone when I am somewhere waiting, ie. for a dental, or doctor’s appointment. Now that I no longer have an iPad, having gone for a phone with a bigger screen, you know the size of the screen I am working on. Interestingly, the game on my computer is the same but not the same, my computer being a Windows format.

When I began on the iPhone/Pad, I had to start all over with a new café, in this new format. Fun I thought I can do something totally different. Off to the races I went, enjoying myself, watching my money grow etc. However, I don’t have the friends to play with in this format, but lots through the game. I digress.

Last night I decided to start decorating for the Chinese New Year, which will be coming up soon in mid February. *year of the Dog* (lunar calendar) The program suggested I take a picture to show my friends, I took a picture and sent it to myself.

To my horror when I looked at the picture this morning, I was assaulted with the glaring objects of my laziness.

I didn’t clean up the floors before taking the picture
I saw where I had started to change my servers and didn’t go back to make sure all of them were done. In fact, I used some from my inventory rather than buy the shiny metal ones that go with my décor ..( frugal and lazy)
The tips could have been collected, but in truth I didn’t see them, again, I didn’t take the time to look

Small over sights maybe, but in my case, I lean towards lazy, we all do, intention is to go back and fix it, but as the days go along, and since it is only me playing, none of my guests to this site, are known to me… bla bla bla… excuses. After making time to fix up the café, start on my remodel, I take a picture .. and voila. caught on camera…

We just never know do we. this is a fun example, but it IS an example, we never know, taking short cuts, neglecting to do something “just because”. A camera never lies the results can be photo-shopped or edited, but lens itself, never lies.

A change was made for about a week. instead of my solitary eggs.. (poached) I added fruit. I had a hankering for persimmons and indulged myself. Didn’t help that at T & T ( Asian grocery story,) they were only being sold by the crate. During the Chinese New Year, this fruit is much in demand.

Lesson learned. I am not a big fruit eater, love blueberries, (in season) and will have the odd apple over the course of the year, but fruit is not part of my daily diet. The lesson, one should do things in moderation…. this is a lesson, I seem to have to revisit more than I would like to.
