I’m short on words today, but I can inject a good quote and a couple of funnies into your day.. It is a lovely day, I hope you get to enjoy it, it is the open road for me today… I’m gonna make my way into the country, pass fields of corn and clover, old barns and ones that have been made over into something all brand new. Do you remember chanting,” rain, rain go away, come again another day”? We would be out playing in the rain anyway. yet it seemed the fun thing to do at the time. Skipping rope or playing with the bolo bat. LOL now that is really saying something about the time I was growing up. Bet some of you don’t even know what a bolo bat is. It is a paddle with a ball attached to it.
This toy and the yo-yo were hours of fun, and if you were really good you competed, especially with the yo-yo. The yo-yo was easy to carry around, and take with you everywhere. You would see people enjoying the pass-time in parks, waiting for buses. on the front porch, at beaches, the yo-yo was everywhere.
And no this was not just something that the girls did, this was something that the boys really got into, They really developed the skill in a way that was entertaining and showed their dexterity and ingenuity in how many they could perform with at one time etc.
Young and old tried their hand with the Yo-Yo. I know of many who had huge collections of these wonderful little gems. Yo-Yos came in every colour and designs you can imagine. There were even special Yo-Yo gloves. You could compete with friends on how many times you could go around the world, (the yo-yo makes a revolution all the way around in a circle away from the body) or you did puzzles the way this man is doing, at first it looked like Tommy Smothers, but I’m not sure? I know some of you are saying , who?, he was Dick’s brother, LOL popular comedians
Now what got me on the topic of yo-yos and bolo bats, who knows, I was thinking about things that make me smile and had a flash back, that led me into sharing a bit of vintage with you, Maybe it’s because I’ll be finishing up a blog later about Woodstock69,(SL)* have been working on it for days now. There is so much in our past that makes us who we are today, I appreciate my past experiences, the ups and the downs, not in detail, but the emotions and the life lessons I learned along the way. There is gratitude in my heart for having come this far. My happiness is not tied to material objects, but to the emotions of life, loving, sharing and experiencing moments with friends, family and yes, even the strangers I’ve met who in many ways touched my heart with their actions, thoughts or deeds.

In the last couple of years, many churches have closed their doors, Driving in the country we will often drive by a deserted church. I’m happy to say that I have seen none in this sad state the above church was in when this picture was taken. Here, in Canada, and I hope in other countries, some of these smaller churches are being bought and rejigged to house a family and or be a home for a couple or a single person….Whether home or studio, they are reborn, given a new lease on life. In my research it was a rather poignant discovery that there were just so many of these wonderful buildings now in a state of ruin.
From the state of many of these buildings, the changes happened over a period of time, not overnight. Life is amazing when you think of just how many skills you once had, are now perhaps not as honed. Take letter writing for instance, I was an avid pen pal correspondent when I was younger. In school we were encouraged to meet and write to new friends in another Province, State or country. I loved writing a letter, drawing and enclosing small pieces of artwork to share with my friend. Looking back I’ve had several from Holland (Nederlands) with the age of social media, and internet, our letters became less and less as we discovered the instant gratification of an e-mail. Soon my mailbox took on a look much like the above picture. If I didn’t write a welcome letter did not come back. where once my penmanship was art in itself. now my husband has trouble reading my grocery list.
When we stop doing something, the joy/fun and learning from that activity begins to recede, other activities take its place. Are they as fulfilling? Only you can answer that …For me I think I will sit down and write a few letters today. I will do so with enthusiasm, my journey is coming full circle, I am again interested in the Nederlands, and I am reminded of my earlier friendships ones that, shame on me, I let fall away.
This is a picture that someone titled – Determination – it shows how “Nature” will always have its way, we may struggle in life, and feel that we are locked in a place we are not happy with, but in time, you will reach through the windows and doors of your confined space and find open skies and warm sunshine. It is the “Way” (Tao) “God” – What will you do today… whatever you decide to do, walk with God! Be ONE with the Universe.
Friendships like gardens need to be tended and loved if they are to survive.

Well dear reader, today is the day, tomorrow will be October 1. October is the first day of a month of bewitching crafts,art pieces,ATCs,fun with my paper and embellishment supplies, all month I get to play. Of course it wasn’t always this way, at one time I had a 9-5 commitment that took time away from doing fun things,like draw witches and goblins, graveyards and bats, decorate envelopes before sending out a greeting to a fellow artist and friend.
We are never too old to express ourselves with markers and stickers. Wish we had dollar stores in the bygone years.
PL Precept #1…Life is Art
If you are an artist, or craft person, writer,architect,parent,cook, housekeeper, it doesn’t really matter what we do that fills our world with “fun”, we find a way to get what we want to do done.
In life,in all situations, I try to apply the same attention and attitude to all challenges and detours I find in my path.
When the enthusiasm is there even if not a “perfect: day, it is a “worthwhile” day, I live and learn. we are asked to Listen with our hearts and minds to those around us, to give them our full attention. I’ve had to learn to do that for myself as well.
Some days I just have to retreat, and have a “me” day. What was the expression used at work,”a wellness day”. The fall for me is a time to come alive, I know to many it is spring that does it for them, me… give me a fall day anytime.
Fall is when we get to do fun things for the N. American Halloween, and the start of the gift making for the holidays.
The Canadian Thanksgiving and the American one are on different days. And of course in PL we celebrate EVERY MONTH!
Enjoy today everyone, do something special for yourself or a loved one. Think ahead to the delightful crisp fresh rejuvenating days of October. Don’t groan, as they say in the egg business, Get Cracking!

Almost through another work week, Whether its to the beach,or to the office, have some fun time today. Do a little Be Bop, sing some ” Run around Sue”, even “Shuffle off to Buffalo”, bellow out some “YMCA”, or hey better still, share a giggle with a friend. Guys, the morning cuppa will be full of cheers… I’m off to morning prayers to wrap you all in a warm loving hug before I head to the gym.

I am filled with anticipation, not only is the day filled with sunshine, I will meet with Rev. Goto in a few hours to learn how to do Oyashikiri Sensho. We were talking of meditation, and I had asked if PL had a special way to meditate. Being a life long meditator it is a subject close to my heart. PL has a special prayer that is a chant. He closed his eyes, brought his hands together in prayer and instantly I was transported. The moment was beautiful and captured me instantly. For days I had that moment replaying in my head and wanted to feel it for myself. I tried on my own to “copy” what I heard and saw… and WOW. Today I will get a personal teaching. I love PL. (Perfect Liberty)
Then I will meet with a dear friend I have not seen in a while, I will have the pleasure of a nice drive to the other end of the city and then share a meal (already I know I will cheat and have wonderful fries with my smoked meat). What is not to like about getting up and starting another day. =^_^=
After morning prayer, I opened up my computer and found that a treasured friend from Australia had sent mail, she is a angel who drops in and out of my life with her gentle thoughts. Today was a quote from “Buddha”

I will leave you now to start my day… starting with looking into my very full wardrobe… and asking myself, how come I have nothing to wear.
