Charm of days gone by

charm and character of Sharon springs

This was taken in New York State, a few summers ago.  It was a sunny day, and I was out exploring,  in fact, this was my first time to this part of the State, I had read an article on an abandoned health resort, it was so intriguing I wanted to see it for myself.  I blogged about that trip the year I went.  This is one of the pictures that in that file.

Timing in life, is so important,  PL Precept #19  Begin Once you perceive and   PL Precept # 17   Grasp What is Most Essential

Had I not been in the States on that day, enjoying the sights, and wandering down a side street I would never have been able to capture that picture.  The home was bathed in sunlight and shade, the breeze was just right, lifting the flag for almost picture perfect memory.  Whenever I see this picture I’m reminded of that trip, and I want to explore  more of the small towns in  that area.

Rev. Eisuke and I were talking yesterday of how it is so easy to “perceive” something, yet not take action… for whatever reason, we don’t follow through, guess what “something” doesn’t get done.  Or we miss something that was essential in the grand scheme of things.  We didn’t look at or take into consideration the full picture.

In the teachings of PL, we try to encourage and show why following the Precepts as best we can, is so important to our own quality of life and the happiness of not only ourselves but those around us.

mind’s eye

IMG_20150903_094130

Have you  heard that expression before, “in my mind’s eye”… I’ve  had it in my head for years, and have not a clue where it came from.  Just that I will use it at times, just because… in other words, I’ve never been sure of what it means or how it came to be in my vocabulary.

Lately I’ve been making cards for the spring sale coming up at the church.  I use blank cards, card stock, and what ever else I have lying around.  I told you about my using my store receipts for making textured handmade paper and card stocks..using coloured paper, inks, paints etc. I end up with some colourful media to use

I’ve had this one sole earring (ladies you know of what I speak) sitting on my work bench, I just couldn’t seem to throw it out, it has probably been hanging around for over a year. Last night I was looking at some scraps I had and without knowing what I had in mind, I started to fold the gray card stock to make a card… I used the left over patterned print for a border, some cut out shapes, and voila, a home for the earring.

Sorry, I’ve not photoshopped it, it came all by itself….. when I took the picture (above) last spring when we were visiting a friend  in Gananoque, Ontario, I saw the sculpture and took a picture, because in my “mind’s eye” it would be a good picture.

When we do something, we don’t always know why or what has inspired us.  Sometimes it doesn’t come back to us for days, weeks, and in this case almost a year later.  And again, sometimes we just never get the “connection”

Living life in the moment, means that we are always present, aware of our surroundings and of the people we are interacting with.  The other lesson I’ve learned, but not fully been able to accomplish 100% is to express (create) enjoy the moment, and let go, move on.  How often have I kept a pair of shoes only because I paid such a price for them and even though I’d worn them till they owed me no more. not one single miserly cent.. I’ve held on. even after I bought another pair to replace them.

I am getting better. It didn’t happen over night.. now I try to let go of something, if I bring something new in.  LOL I can hear my husbands eyes rolling in his head as he reads this…. 1st step is knowing what you are doing.. 2nd step is working at correcting that habit or tendency.

In my creativity .. I have always been able to let go… and I never plan something out ahead of time to the extent where I “need” to do something a certain way.  Good examples, I don’t knit or crochet.. I do not like following a pattern.  I love to cook but never follow a recipe.  Each and every one of us is different we are unique in how we live our daily lives.  That is what makes this place (life on earth) such a beautiful adventure.

Please, let us strive to accept and harmonize with those around us ..

Native Code of Ethics

“Native American Code of Ethics

Rise with the sun to pray. Pray alone.

Pray often. The Great Spirit will listen, if you only speak.

Be tolerant of those who are lost on their path.

Ignorance, conceit, anger, jealousy and greed stem from a lost soul.

Pray that they will find guidance. Search for yourself, by yourself.

Do not allow others to make your path for you.

It is your road, and yours alone.

Others may walk it with you, but no one can walk it for you.

Thursday, is the eve of a brand new year…

I know I am looking forward to enjoying all that will come my way.  I send out positive energy and good wishes to each and every one of you..It is my hope that we will all benefit from the lessons and adventures we had in 2015.

May the joys in life, fill your world with great abundance and blessings.

Good health, happiness and a very happy New Year.

HOT DOGS!

hot dogs

WOW and wow again.. Good morning everyone, here it is a few days before the big day.. everyone is having a family get together soon, has had one or is planning one.  Last night at church we had our monthly Thanksgiving service.  After service on the 21st, tradition has it that we have Japanese Curry on rice..  We get two different choices, mild and spicy along with a green salad.. and yes there is always a dessert, members bring in goodies too.    Last night it was a big honking apple pie from Costco that was front and centre for those with a sweet tooth.

On our way home I turned to my friend Eartha and said ” I could go for a hot dog right now”.  I really really meant it, I’d had hot dogs on my mind since the other dat,  Not any hot dog, but the big ones we get from Costco, steamed.  It is the closest to the Montreal dog that I drool over.   I’ve learned to eat it  bare.  No condiments.  Why, cuz they don’t always have them out, and because it is messy if you are going to be eating it in your car..BEFORE you drive out of the lot.

Obviously we did not stop for hot dogs.. it was late and time to get home.  But the thought has not gone away, because in doing my research for the blog… look at what I found… No there is no point in my going out and buying hot dogs and buns.. that is not how it works with a craving…  The best part of eating an “all dressed” hot dog, is to go and get one from a vendor who knows how to dish them out.  Do you agree?

Everyone has their own specialty.  Something they do well.  I accept that making a good hot dog is not one of mine.

In PL we have a Precept … Precept #13 – There is a Way for Men and a Way for Women.  I’ve always had a bit of a problem with the wording, and I’ve had many a discussion about this with various ministers and officials of the church..  I am of course limited due to the fact that this ministry is out of Japan, and few of the  ministers, I myself can dialogue with, speak with a good command of the English language.  I do not speak Japanese.

So to me, and this is MY take on it after years of study and being with PL.  we men and women are like the hot dog,  we come in one shape (human) the  shapes and sizes differ, but we  all hot dogs.  And then depending on where we live and the customs and beliefs we are adorned with as we journey along.  We appear to be other than what we actually are. (in this missive, hot dogs =^_^=) human beings.

We, each and every one of us, may take a different path, or use different condiments to enjoy our hot dog, in the end, we are satisfying a craving, an urge, a desire….. What is different is how we want our hot dogs, our choices are what we decide to do with the hot dog…. and in the end, the choice we made, was it a good one?

Oh my, won’t you be happy when I find myself hot dog and move on……  cravings !!!!

Have a super happy day everyone!
