PL calendar day 30

Your surroundings are a mirror of your thoughts

When you think “this is going to be hard” then your situation will become difficult Instead think,” Let’s do this!” and face your situation with determination.  Then you will be surprised to see how smoothly things will go.

Back from our short stint into the States.  We  had damp weather, some rain, not much, but I had a new experience that had me talking to myself and the strangers around me, who were wondering about my state of mind,  Although I have seen the signs, as we have driven by other locations in the States, I have never before stopped and gone in.

What I was wishing was that I had thought to whip out my camera and take a picture.  I missed the moment, because I was   totally awed by the sight of wall to wall cartons of cigarettes.  When we drove in, we did see the long and I mean long line of cars, driving up to the “take out” window.  Still I was unprepared for the sight that greeted me when I walked in.

I have never seen that many  different kinds of cigarettes, it was so well-organized, a whole wall of cigarettes, with people channeled through lines so that they went through designated lines picked out what they wanted, and then followed the queue to the cashier.  The lines are well-defined, keeping the buyers between metal type fencing,  Once in the lineup, you have no where else to go but follow the buyer in front of you.

It was amazing how efficient they were at getting customers in and out.  No being a smoker, it was like watching a foreign film  No smoking inside but the air outside was blue with smoke.

Life offers us new experiences when we least expect it.  I went in there for information on the Native territory we were on, but was so “blown away” with what I did find… I left, without the needed information, and didn’t care.  I had  a super “holy smokes artichokes” WOW moment.

I wish I could have given you a visual, wishing won’t make it so… but believe me… I was thrilled…. (ok ok, it doesn’t take much.. I know.. =^_^=  )  If you are ever in the NY,Onadaga area… have a look…

Tomorrow is Wordless Wednesday… and yup I did get great picture to share, I liked it enough to holler…stop the truck!!

A window can tell us many things, especially when we can walk up and spy what is inside. It was a beautiful day and finding, I gave her all the admiration I could, separate as we were by glass.  It was late in the day, we were on our way back to the border, when we are happy, everyday is a holiday.

P1000171

This sleek lady was on the lot, but I’m afraid she did nothing to ring my chines, simply not my style.  She had cleaned up, was buffed and shined ( dressed ) for the party, but she lacked the lines that would catch my eye.  I’ve included her because, I know she did want to be admired  After all she was in the front line up.

P1000172

For my friends who like me are interested in doors, and locks,  this gem was another find I found in an older building.  Polished up, I would love to have it in my collection.  Suffice to say, a camera capture will have to do.

Another week lies ahead, what excitement and adventure will it bring.  Have a great start to your week where ever you are.

A cul du sac, all on its own could be seen from the highway, had to go back.  I felt such a strong draw … such a sense of abandonment from a place that had once had such a wonderful exciting and vibrant life.  The architecture of the houses with the faux fronts.. loved them.

A blessing and silent prayer for all of you today

P: Precept # 11 Always be with God

Charm of days gone by

charm and character of Sharon springs

This was taken in New York State, a few summers ago.  It was a sunny day, and I was out exploring,  in fact, this was my first time to this part of the State, I had read an article on an abandoned health resort, it was so intriguing I wanted to see it for myself.  I blogged about that trip the year I went.  This is one of the pictures that in that file.

Timing in life, is so important,  PL Precept #19  Begin Once you perceive and   PL Precept # 17   Grasp What is Most Essential

Had I not been in the States on that day, enjoying the sights, and wandering down a side street I would never have been able to capture that picture.  The home was bathed in sunlight and shade, the breeze was just right, lifting the flag for almost picture perfect memory.  Whenever I see this picture I’m reminded of that trip, and I want to explore  more of the small towns in  that area.

Rev. Eisuke and I were talking yesterday of how it is so easy to “perceive” something, yet not take action… for whatever reason, we don’t follow through, guess what “something” doesn’t get done.  Or we miss something that was essential in the grand scheme of things.  We didn’t look at or take into consideration the full picture.

In the teachings of PL, we try to encourage and show why following the Precepts as best we can, is so important to our own quality of life and the happiness of not only ourselves but those around us.

Make someone happy today,  SMILE  share the  LOVE  include it in your day, it will radiate in your smile.

Yesterday was a day of sun and cloud, being a work day, this boat launch area was quiet, in the summer months when we dive by, it would be difficult to even find a place to park.  We stopped here to let the dogs have some outdoor fun.

DSC00092

This was the colour of the day, yes sunshine is nice, but I love the rather subdued and subtle shades  of an over cast day, if every day was sunny, we wouldn’t get to see the full palette of Mother’s Nature’s diverse and endless inventory of wonders.

Here is another Found? or Lost? for you….

DSC00086

While visiting a Tim Hortons (on the American side of the border, I came across the above dime and penny, laid out just as you see them  … I didn’t touch them.. I looked and found it interesting that someone would just leave them on the vanity, especially sitting there so neatly.  Were they in hand, and just laid down while hands were being washed…  Maybe a child had them, and left them when they were being tended to by a parent.. I didn’t know… but I wasn’t going to disturb them, so, I took a picture.

Life is interesting, fun and intriguing, how we accept our daily challenges and adventures is up to us..  Accepting, enjoying and letting go of moments.. is a life long challenge, sometimes it is easy sometimes it is not…. knowing that whatever it is, it is OUR life. Yours and mine… I’m just so happy knowing that you are part of my world,  In loving, sharing, caring, the exchange of ideas, thoughts, sights and sounds,.. WOW… what gifts.

PL Precept # 2  To live is to express ONE’s Self

Musing out loud

IMG_0592

Good Morning all – I took a breather yesterday. What we used to call a mental health day.  Packed the dogs in the car and took off.  We do this from time to time and it is usually just what the doctor ordered. We get away from the construction going on next door, hammering and pounding all day long. The glare of a computer screen, the ringing of phones.  It was time for a day out.

IMG_0601It was raining when we left, in fact it was pouring.  Determined we carefully found our way around detours and road construction till we were on the highway leading to the States.  We crossed over in Massena and came back via Ogdensburg. The Massena border crossing was so painless we were through in a blink of an eye,  No long line ups.  It could be different starting today, this is a long week-end in Ontario,Canada.  Monday is a Civic Holiday.

IMG_0596

We had driven out of the rain, the sun was shining, there was a lovely breeze what better time to leave the main highway and follow a side road where once we had seen an Amish horse and buggy go.  We soon found ourselves in another time, a gentler time, with lots of green pastures, and simple structures, it was a gradual shift, but definitely the hustle and bustle of city life was behind us. There were areas in our drive, where the road though paved, would have been barely able to handle two passing modern-day automobiles or trucks.  Horse and buggies, yes.

IMG_0598

We stopped at two different veggie stands, were home-made goods were also available.  At one location I was honored with an invitation into the home so view a double size quilt that was being made on a homemade loom.  Each stitch was carefully sewn by hand and if the daylight began to fade the woman used a kerosene lamp to guide her hands while she sewed.  The quilts are lovely works of   a rt, the one that would have interested me would have been the unfinished one, for the hours of labour   the price asked left me truly humbled.  It was just such an experience for me,  I thought of my  two sewing machines, my serger, my air-conditioned comfort, and here this woman with the big warm smile and happy eyes stood showing me her winter work, because in the summers she worked with her children bringing in the harvest and preparing it for sale.   They travel 2 hours or so to go about 17 miles to the shopping centre in Ogdensburg to sell their home-made products in the parking lot outside of Lowes. (pickled green tomatoes with jalapeno peppers)

IMG_0593

There was a quiet peace that settled over me while on this day trip that will last for some time to come.  I rediscovered a part of me that I used to spend much more time with.  The young girl at the first place we stopped told me that they have quilting bees, her eyes lit up just thinking about the joy they have in sharing community with their neighbours and friends.  As we stood chatting I realized that life  was a happy place, and what a rich blessing it was for me  to be able to share in that moment.  The odd car we heard was so out of place.  I can still hear the sounds of hooves  and buggy coming down the road, Nice.

IMG_0587

There were places I would have loved to capture with my lense, but felt it would have been an intrusion, the people we met were so gracious and friendly.

The countryside and simple way of living, brings a new perspective on what I have let my life become.  I am very happy with my life, and most of all I’m content, but now I know that I can also be just as happy with less.  Maybe even more so.

Could I live without my computer and the internet?  Yes.. Would I want to.  No.  I’m too selfish to give you all up. LOL.  You have become so much a part of who I am, some of you, have shared your music and stories with me, touching me as only a good friend can do, yet we have never physically met, isn’t life amazing.  Have a good day dear friend.  Till next time….                                Namaste – Oyashikiri

A big thank you to a husband who helps me live my dreams.

vrijdag nu… Good morning!

amishWhen we have been in upper NY State, we often will see a lone Amish buggy making its way down the side of the highway towards its destination.  Cars are whizzing by, driver and horse are not oblivious to the automobiles, their noise and fumes, they simply just keep heading to where they are going appearing to be in their own space and time.  I never can pass without  thinking of how in many ways it would be nice to be sitting along side the driver on a dirt road with nothing but natural woodlands  and meadows on either side.  Instead of concrete,, the horses were making their way over well trod earth.  Day dreaming and reality.  What a pair. We need a daily dose of both.

Life is a balance of negatives and positives, often we find ourselves experiencing the emotions of life on one side of the coin or the other. When you turn the coin on its side, you can see that the side is slim and though you see the rim of the coin, you cannot see both side of the coin at the same time. When I found the following quote this morning, I knew it was  to be shared.  Is love and being in love different?  Are they  different states of BEING?

e90031fba300ed47db3f5204118a9000Look for the beauty around us, appreciate the good qualities  in others. We all have our moments of “ops did I really do/say that”  The ongoing challenge is to see happiness and positives in our daily lives.  We have to begin with being honest with our inner self… loving who we are, and where we are in life.  We are alive.. this is vrijdag, Friday… we have another day to be creative.. Life is ART. And best of all.. YOU are LOVED LOVED LOVED, we are ALL ONE in this glorious UNIVERSE… reach out and touch someone today… let your smile shine!
