362a2e5c57715554d428ea5b20027b59A friend asked me the other day.. what was I reading, I replied I was reading the Jewish Pleasure Principle by Rabbi Dr. Reuven P. Bulka.  “No, that isn’t what I meant, aren’t you reading a “real” book”

Now  having  known this friend a long time I knew what she meant, she was asking if I was reading a “leisure” book, to her the hardcover, was not “leisure” but a text-book.  A publication that speaks of formulating a Judaic approach to pleasure, attitudes to suffering, depression and mourning etc.was not her idea of “leisure”.

However the reading of a good stimulating journal that explores  and attempts to put balanced perspective through an investigation of primary sources, to me…. is interesting and I enjoy my discoveries.   Pleasure itself cn be viewed within the framework of the totality of life.  As a writer, I thrive on reading what someone else has put to paper, especially on topics that I find thought-provoking and interesting.

Yes I do enjoy a good  novel, where the settings are exotic, or can stimulate the gray cells into providing me a dreamy far away place where the drama of someone’s life unfolds, casts a spell and has me in that world for days until the story ends.

I had an interesting conversation with a young lady the other night, she boldly talked to me about intimate moments in her life, and I took it in and listened.  She spoke of loneliness and I flashed back to my younger years, we all live the same emotions in our own way.  We are not all story tellers, but we are characters in or own “stories” (lives).  How we play out our days, and create our endings… now that is another story.

cabin on the lake by D.Rogers photography

oh…what a find the perfect place to be…………….uh huh….. not for me….  what….. the water, the privacy the quiet cabin in the woods by a lake.. nope….  I would find this stifling, I wouldn’t like the dampness, or the bugs.

Tree house perfection

No, this is for me, open, bright, small, with just enough place for  1 maybe 2, but up near the clouds where the mind can explore and where sight and sound have no  bounderies. oh man…………….yesssss

Wherever you are today, whatever you are doing…. enjoy …. take it in….  make it yours…..

yesterday?

We actually saw  people enjoying the water on a lake that we have passed many many times.  That was different, and so nice to see.  So often ball parks, manicured lawns, playgrounds are void of human laughter and activity.

We were headed to visit a friend we hadn’t seen in a number of years,  She lives on a lake that is basically on private land, to get there one must travel a private road for miles.  The kind of road where you see signs, telling you that it is private, and you travel it at your own risk.  In other words it is maintained only by the people who own the land surrounding this lake.

It is isolated in a way, from inside her log and wood constructed home, when one looks out, one sees only the natural vegetation of the area.  The trees on one side of the house are  just an arms length away from the outside screened in porch .. where safely inside if you are very quiet, you can hear and see some of the daily activities of the creatures who call the wild area, their home.  If you berry pick you do so knowing that a bear can be not that far away picking just like you.

The sun had been out, but on our arrival, thunder rolled across the sky, it seemed we were under a bowling alley, it was that close. From the shelter of the roof that covers the wide porch where we had parked, one can sit and just enjoy the storm as it passes by. Her son built her home, it is not a “cottage’ in the woods, it is a lovely big home, that can fit her extended family when they cone to visit  It has a quiet charm, There is a television and with her two grandchildren spending summer with her, I was surprised ro learn there is now a computer in the house.  There never had been before. I smiled when she thought for a moment, and said, “but I don’t think its working, besides the children are so busy being outdoors, i don’t see them on it”  We are speaking of  teenagers!

I have not used pictures from our trip, but very close examples of the ambiance we got to enjoy .. and appreciate for the time we were there.  Unfortunately, we city folks were on a schedule of sorts, and had to move along.  What I wanted to share was that.. so often I think that I am in a quiet place. AND…. in my reality I am, BUT yes (winks) there is always a but,  what I found yesterday was that to really and truly enjoy the laid back environment I was in, I would need time to unwind.

When visiting I usually sit with my back to the kitchen, facing out at the lake,  On nights where we have lingered after a meal, I have always been lulled by the quiet and total darkness that envelopes the home.

When staying with my friend, its an early night and an early day to a start to a day of fresh air and leisurely walks to scout out the new growth in the woods, or to admire her gardens that she loves to sprinkle in the cultivated areas on her property.

The last couple of years, she  tells us that it is difficult to go into the wooded areas without being protected from head to toe because of ticks.

We were sorry to take our leave, but we did have a long journey back to the city.    On the way we were going to stop in Kingston, interesting for me, that I was looking forward to some signs of a city, I wanted an iced coffee!  Shame on me I know, but there you have it… as much as I enjoyed the hours of bliss in small towns, and the wonderful vistas of farm lands cottages, and lakes………………………..I wanted a Tim Horton*!

Poetry …

“Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash.”

Leonard Cohen

Every lyric, every verse, comes from someone’s soul, the wordsmith paints with words, the photographer captures with his/her lens, the singer emotes with the smoldering passion within. How many times have  you cried, drowning in the words of a song that you are hearing over and over, or found yourself completely lost while dancing in someone’s arms, not necessarily because of the person dancing with you, but for the memories that the music is invoking.  Sometimes  this causes a lot of confusion.

Lake Tahoe USA

“I feel, therefore I am”  remember hearing that.before.  We do feel, each and every one of us has feelings, some are just better than others at either masking them, or denying them.  While others live their feelings and enjoy the moments of creation.  Expression.  The sharing of the soul.

The road ahead lay shrouded in mist

so caught up in the landscape

I lost my way, and now wanted only to end the visit

yes, when we began there was  laughter and light

everything just seemed so totally  right

The sound of your name, set my heart aflame

fc2d92dd9d712cd5ad7cfc15c789f714

we walked, we talked, we explored

everything was new, even though we had been there before,

nothing for either of us was the same

your eyes reflected mine, and mine drowned in yours

how were we to know that it would all

come crashing to an end.

Certainly it wasn’t our intent

1e1f0a884b9ea35a655a0d13b7cdad77

yet, when the season’s changed, so did we

in our hearts we knew, the moment was gone

our song had ended, the lyrics came to an end

and once more, we stand alone

2717c2e36db2d5ce3a7b27a2806c715e

Alone with God, we can hear our heart

and feel it beat, with its steady rhythm, it is as strong as ever,

the shared moments of expression are still alive in our  “hearts”

but what is voiced, expressed in media, or verbalized, is

the emotions lived…. … in loving you.

Waking to another day, yawns and stretches

looks out the window, nice, sunshine

still …. don’t know if I’ve finished with the dream

the bed was sooo cosy, familiar moment =^_^=

bem vindo – welcome to another day

Precept #1 … life is art…

We have a whole new day to spend in our own special way

Processed with VSCOcam with p5 presetIf I was by the lake,

it would be great to sit outside for morning prayers

the morning light shimmering over the water,

the birds singing in the trees

the canoe would beckon and I would want to

drift slowly out into the calm

and from the canoe close my eyes

to feel the morning dew, and let my thoughts

and happiness drift up to you.

You are with me everywhere

I know, I really truly do,

so I’ll head over to church and share this morning’s

prayer with you, with my friends in our community who share my love for you.  With anticipation, I look forward

to the dedicated service that we have that allows us to pray together, each and every voice blending in unison

expanding our happiness in being ONE with you.

Bom dia, hello everyone

Fall is in the air, the perky nip of cooler weather is there to greet me in the morning when I let the dog out. 16 degrees C, ( 45 F).  The fall has to be my favourite season of all.. I enjoy each  one of our very different seasons, but fall weather  has a special place in my heart.  Every year  around this time the leaves start to work their magic on the landscapes.  The lazy hazy days of summer disappear, there is a quicker and snappier mood to our walk.  The fall clothes come out, the warm sweaters, closed in shoes, and wonderful combinations of casual fashion.

It is true, in the fall you are more likely able to draw me out into nature, the bugs and insects are not around, and where I would love a night in this cabin, I really feel the we would have problems taking the dogs out at night.  The next picture is of a “pond” in a secluded area of Nova Scotia, Canada where someone camps.  We have been to such locations in our travels, believe me, the exhilaration of such moments is beyond words.

In my personal journey to become a better person, I enjoy my time away as much as my time in the city.  Life is wherever I am.  It is when we stop moving forward in our lives that we grow stagnant.   One one  personal card I had printed, read, Discover a new you…. explore active meditation…. Step outside the box.   What is active meditation, active meditation is when you live each moment of your day with Makoto (sincerity) with a focus on being a better person in all you say and do.  Like the world we live in (nature)  our moods and self expression changes. When we accept that the only constant in life is change, then we are well on our path to living with a peaceful heart.

Sunday Greetings!

kayaking, iceEver tried ice kayaking………….. I certainly haven’t, nor had I even heard of it …  There is so much of life beyond  what we know in our own personal  worlds. So much to see, do and explore.  Question begs, do we do them, do we even get up out of our comfort zones and  travel the roads, or are we arm chair travelers.  No answer required, you know the answer in your heart.  Recently I had a “blue” patch, I had a yearning for a good cry, had no idea why.  It just washed over me. To me this is a sign from above, means something is happening in and around me and I’m not reading the clues, I’m missing something.  The Universe has been obviously sending me subtle messages and I’ve been missing them. We all have such ahHA moments.  In our own way, we are faced with a challenge and for some reason, either we follow the same old patterns at dealing with them, or we stumble through the process and really come no closer to resolving the matter.

Tao say, a wise man/woman knows when to stand still.  Go neither forward. or sideways..  stand still, retreat  step or two.. stop. Practice being still.  Pray, meditate.. don’t just do it.. you have to put our whole effort into being still, listening to your inner voice.  Really listen.   Sometimes we reach a point where change is both necessary and timely, but we cling and try to hold on.  Nature is every changing, trying to hold on to something is futile, spring, becomes summer, and summer fades into fall, our lives move forward, whether we want them to or not.   PL Precept. #11   Always be with God.

michigan,Glen arbor, crystal lake by forestladt flickrThe photographer of this picture, managed to show us the fish in the water, and the stillness of the lake/stream…. I’m winter wearing, =^_^= and long for the sounds of spring/summer and fall……  but today is here, and I will embrace what the day has to offer.  Starting with saying my good morning to each and every one of you.  Thank you for sharing this moment with me.  I so appreciate and love each and every one of you.  God Bless…………Oyashikiri

Remember to smile…                         smilePencil   psst  do you know what fish symbolize?

vrijdag nu… Good morning!

amishWhen we have been in upper NY State, we often will see a lone Amish buggy making its way down the side of the highway towards its destination.  Cars are whizzing by, driver and horse are not oblivious to the automobiles, their noise and fumes, they simply just keep heading to where they are going appearing to be in their own space and time.  I never can pass without  thinking of how in many ways it would be nice to be sitting along side the driver on a dirt road with nothing but natural woodlands  and meadows on either side.  Instead of concrete,, the horses were making their way over well trod earth.  Day dreaming and reality.  What a pair. We need a daily dose of both.

Life is a balance of negatives and positives, often we find ourselves experiencing the emotions of life on one side of the coin or the other. When you turn the coin on its side, you can see that the side is slim and though you see the rim of the coin, you cannot see both side of the coin at the same time. When I found the following quote this morning, I knew it was  to be shared.  Is love and being in love different?  Are they  different states of BEING?

e90031fba300ed47db3f5204118a9000Look for the beauty around us, appreciate the good qualities  in others. We all have our moments of “ops did I really do/say that”  The ongoing challenge is to see happiness and positives in our daily lives.  We have to begin with being honest with our inner self… loving who we are, and where we are in life.  We are alive.. this is vrijdag, Friday… we have another day to be creative.. Life is ART. And best of all.. YOU are LOVED LOVED LOVED, we are ALL ONE in this glorious UNIVERSE… reach out and touch someone today… let your smile shine!
