the art of nothing

IMG_154711.11

While waiting for the paint to dry, I decided to take a picture, of my nothing page.  I do a lot of nothing, that is what speaks to me the most.

I will do a whole book of pages, when the mood strikes, of “nothing” art.  When I am done, I will have my very own book of “Nothing” for the month of December 2018  I ask you, What will you do for yourself, to remind you of this coming month of December.

Our thought for today (PL calendar, day 11) was to be thankful for who we are…

Tomorrow, PL Day Calendar day 12 –  Carry out what you believe in

Once you have prepared everything to the best of your ability, seize any opportunity that comes your way and take action without hesitation.  Express yourself to the fullest.

I learned a long time ago, that “nothing”was not always easy to express.  I used to call it abstract art, or expressions.  To call it art, to some was stretching it.  You dear friends, who have been on this journey with me, know that this is not the first time, you hear me speak of “nothing”   If you recall I  took pictures one summer of nothing.

All this to say, if it feels right, and it is to be your very own, create your memory your way. A picture, a doodle, story, whatever method choose to for your expression, if done with Makoto (sincerity of intention) it will be great.  There are no failures, only experiences.

Bom Dia,  A happy greeting to you..

Today, while picking up a newspaper for my husband, I spied this colourful book. Bring Back the Bees by Paulette Bourgeois and Josee Bisaillon.  It was so eye catching that I asked to see it. Hello, it is a give away at Chapters Indigo.  It is Produced by Kids Can Press, and sponsored by Honey Nut Cheerios.

It has beautiful illustrations, rendered in watercolour, collage and digital

I am very interested in saving the bee population, and believe that more awareness is needed … therefore I am sharing this information with you.for more info. bringbackthe bees.ca

sabai sabai

thailand“Sabai sabai”

“A ubiquitous Thai phrase.  it is a greeting, ” like hey man, be cool,” or “take it easy” In Thailand where the people and their customs, are gentle, and a smile is always the way to greet someone, hands  in special position, like a prayer, with a slight low bow.  It seemed like a fitting way to start my greeting to you today.

We have the sunshine today, however, temperatures are in the zero range.  So imagining the sunshine  in Thailand where the weather is “warmer”.. feels good.

I am reading a nook by David Casarett,M.D.  = Murder at the house of Rooster Happiness = the main character is Ladarat Patalung, a nurse who is slowly adding detective to her “talents”   It is a debut book,  one gets to enjoy the sights and sounds of Thailand.  How it ended up in my reading, I don’t remember.  I actually didn’t think I would even be able to still my mind with all that is going on these days, but… wonder..of wonders, it is written in a way that I am drawn to know more about a country I know little about, and learning about customs, and traditions that are interesting.  What a way to travel and enjoy a mystery at the same time.

Seeing life from the perspective of a Thai person, regarding time spent in the USA ..let’s just say.. it made me smile, a lot!!!!

Isn’t that what life is all about, finding moments and ways to bring heart-felt smiles into our daily lives.  When we smile, we pass along our happiness.

africa elephant

The Elephant found in Thailand, is the one also found in India….   an elephant is an elephant to me,  this is a picture I have in my inventory of an elephant, forgive me if there is a distinct difference.

I am feeling an elephant size load of happy today, and want to share it with you.  Being happy is important.. even if it is a struggle to smile, curve those lips and take a nice deep breath.. say to yourself happy happy happy, sabai, sabai… and you will be blessed with a big inner smile.

Till next visit.   sabai, sabai…

being YOU

africa hippo rhino

Remember the saying, “the glass is either half full” or “the glass is half empty”  Is this fellow walking on the bottom, or is he coming up for air.  Some days it is hard to tell, if its a good day, or we are just used to the “ambience” and tempo.

“I am so busy” I heard someone say, ” I just can’t get anything done”

I would wonder, then what have they been doing that they are so busy. If we are focused on the moment, then each moment we live through, is an accomplishment.  When we go out to lunch, after we have had our lunch, didn’t we accomplish what we set out to do. We ate lunch.  We actually “do” things all day.  Is it that we don’t acknowledge our accomplishments, that we are always looking ahead, and not satisfied with the present?

Have I been listening to too much Pi.   Unless you have heard of the book, seen the film or listened to the CD  you might not recognize my reference.  That’s OK, my musing can be confusing.  Life of Pi

PL calendar day 20    You are YOU, Others are Others

You have your own way of doing things, and others have their way of doing things. Don’t worry about what other people will say.  Simply take care of the task at hand.

Can you believe we are already mid month.  Please have yourself a grand day tomorrow.  Enjoy it to the fullest.  Make each moment count.  A moment wasted on negative energy, is a moment you are not smiling.  Happiness makes for a great day.

When you smile, others will too.

today 1.7.18

violetGood Morning everyone…

I am working on a new project, this is how far I’ve progressed since the other day.  Working with the medium I am using I prefer to let the layers dry before I move on to other layers.

Plus the layer I am working on might have to be done in stages since it is  “come as you are” inspiration.  Meaning, I work on it when I am “feeling it”  Some projects get finished others do not.  Simple fact.  I long ago learned that I am happiest living in the moment.  I am not a planner in the sense that I map out what I will  do next fall, or next year.

As it turns out this has become a blessing for me.  My husband having been diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, we live each day, happy to start a day, and to once again share the happiness of  being together.  Every day is a huge blessing, one we are grateful and thankful for.

In the book “the power of kindness” by Piero Ferrucci, he  has 2 lines that stands out for me.  “To remember is to live.  To forget is to die”

In PL we have the 21st precept.  Live in Perfect Liberty.

Today we start another day, I wish you joy, happiness and all that you desire to make it a memorable one.

Till soon Q

NH discovering

IMG_2997

Hello on Tuesday.. Was bright and sunny here today, yet where I would be up and out of the house bright and early, I was slow in getting going.  Happens, I may have mentioned that while in NH I was suddenly hit with a flash of recognition.  I didn’t want to shop, or really look around. I had enough!  I’m sorry, for those of you who have had to pick yourselves of the floor, I assure you,  it really happened

IMG_2984

Such things do happen.  Let’s face it, a book was written about the “strange events” that have been recorded to have happened, in the hills of NH. Shrouded Memories, True Stories from the White Mountains of New Hampshire, by Floyd W. Ramsey.

IMG_2994

Will it last, who knows.  So far, so good, I ran errands yesterday and today, and was not tempted to browse, or “look around”.. I applied myself to what needed to be done, then came back home.   I do have some of my artwork on display  at  Raglan Art Walk 2017  in SL, I have participated for the last couple of years.  I do need to send out some invitations.

IMG_3006

What you see here, is my darling Canaille (Portuguese Water Dog) watching her human “daddy” eating a sandwich while relaxing with his “notebook” after a day of driving his “lovely” wife around touring the wilds of NH.  You can see she is trained on his every move, I think, she believes, that if she waits it out, he will drop something.  LOL he never does, but she never gives up hope.

That is what life is all about isn’t it.  We need to live each moment, focused on what we are doing, appreciating the moment.  When we are “hit” with an “idea” or “inspiration” we should listen, take heed, recognize that it is a  “personal” message”

362a2e5c57715554d428ea5b20027b59A friend asked me the other day.. what was I reading, I replied I was reading the Jewish Pleasure Principle by Rabbi Dr. Reuven P. Bulka.  “No, that isn’t what I meant, aren’t you reading a “real” book”

Now  having  known this friend a long time I knew what she meant, she was asking if I was reading a “leisure” book, to her the hardcover, was not “leisure” but a text-book.  A publication that speaks of formulating a Judaic approach to pleasure, attitudes to suffering, depression and mourning etc.was not her idea of “leisure”.

However the reading of a good stimulating journal that explores  and attempts to put balanced perspective through an investigation of primary sources, to me…. is interesting and I enjoy my discoveries.   Pleasure itself cn be viewed within the framework of the totality of life.  As a writer, I thrive on reading what someone else has put to paper, especially on topics that I find thought-provoking and interesting.

Norway,Telemark

Yes I do enjoy a good  novel, where the settings are exotic, or can stimulate the gray cells into providing me a dreamy far away place where the drama of someone’s life unfolds, casts a spell and has me in that world for days until the story ends.

I had an interesting conversation with a young lady the other night, she boldly talked to me about intimate moments in her life, and I took it in and listened.  She spoke of loneliness and I flashed back to my younger years, we all live the same emotions in our own way.  We are not all story tellers, but we are characters in or own “stories” (lives).  How we play out our days, and create our endings… now that is another story.

cabin on the lake by D.Rogers photography

oh…what a find the perfect place to be…………….uh huh….. not for me….  what….. the water, the privacy the quiet cabin in the woods by a lake.. nope….  I would find this stifling, I wouldn’t like the dampness, or the bugs.

Tree house perfection

No, this is for me, open, bright, small, with just enough place for  1 maybe 2, but up near the clouds where the mind can explore and where sight and sound have no  bounderies. oh man…………….yesssss

Wherever you are today, whatever you are doing…. enjoy …. take it in….  make it yours…..

You all looking for something profound, you all just staring at me like I have something  to say.  I don’t really, but go on and look, cuz I’m looking back at you and wondering how the photographer got you all to stand that way.  If I could I would reach right in  there and scratch and nuzzle each one of you, cept the critter with the feathers. Never done hold one of those before.

Yea I know all the proof readers out there will be wondering if I fell out of bed.  I didn’t… but gall darn, I hang with some pretty “good to know” guys and gals who come from other places, and their lazy drawl and way of  speaking has rather grown on me.caring...

We can’t all wander out into the backwoods, nor do we all live in areas where we can access a farmer’s field or woodland, but we all have special places where we can go to unwind and just enjoy quiet time with Nature.

a new season will soon be here…

The warm fuzzy glow of a warm house, frost on the windows, air that is crisp and clear. Hmm not everyone smiles dreamily at the thought of the coming of winter, but I do.  There is something to be said about “nesting”.  Like a squirrel gathering nuts before the snow comes, I get in supplies like I think that it is the late 1800’s or early 1900’s and we need to be prepared.

Winter weather has been rather erratic of late, wow, places that seldom saw snow  have been hit with blizzards, crops in the southern states have had some brutal storms come their way.  All over the world, winter comes and changes where we live, and we have to adjust.

Before the days of instant news, and social media, we simply dealt with what came along. It might not have always been fun, or easy, but we took measures to  do our best to cope with the power outages, furnace malfunctions, delayed  transportation etc.  Now with “instant fixes, and gratification” it seems that there is more of a “panic” mode that sets in. OMG the cell phone is not working, or the TV  signal is all askew.

Arggghhh my PC is down.  Honeeeeee the internet is not working,  anguish at its best.  LOL been there done that.  Remember the days of trying to read by candle till the lights came back on.  How about the wind up radio, so you can hear the news should there be an announcement of when the power lines will be up again.

Winter is a special time, a time for spiritual rebirth, for reconnecting with the inner YOU.  A time where we can enjoy seeing the world new and fresh,  We are all unique and different in our own way, personalities and lifestyles vary.  One thing we all share is the gift of life and LOVE.

Let us do our best to see the positive in our lives, and to appreciate and show appreciation to those who share in our world. Whether close or far, reach out and say  hello, show you care.

Live With Passion

Live With Passion

Live with Passion – Sowing the Seeds of PL Faith, is a book by Rev. Yumiko Tsuyama, I bought this book because it was there, I’ve talked about it before in a previous blog. I really did not spend much time thinking about it. It has become my “spend a quiet moment to reflect” companion. I can’t recommend it enough.
How often in your life time have you gone looking for a “self help” book, or picked up a magazine and enjoyed an article that “spoke” to you … The content just stood out, and made you think.
Rev Yumiko was dedicated to her “craft”. Each of her “lessons” are short little testimonies of events, memories of her experiences.  You know this little book has me charmed because I wrote about it just the other day.  I open the book and read the lesson she speaks of then close the book and reflect on what I’ve read.  Not everyone wants to read volumes in one go, this book is done is such a way that we can pick it up and trust/believe that it will open to the lesson you should be reading.  =^_^=  ..It is written in a way that every time you read it, you will find it will speak to you.

Copies are available at the church, if you live in the States, we have churches in the States, pickup a copy, if you have  one already, consider gifting one to a friend. I don’t usually promote books, forgive me, I’m just very enthusiastic about this book.  Have trouble find a source, contact me I’ll be happy to direct you to a church.

My lesson today was about Hosho Spirit… this has been a lesson for me .. it takes faith for me, and it will be an ongoing lesson for me, reading her  “teaching” today, spoke to me, even though I’ve heard it expressed before, in many ways, her words today, her simple story, gave me an AH! moment.

(Hosho = sincere offering of money to the church, whereby the person is blessed physically, spiritually and financially by Oshieoyasama’s  Shikiri.)

(Shikiri = PL’s unique way of prayer, asking God’s blessing with a sincere promise to accomplish what we have to do)

Love and Blessings, today and always – Good Morning everyone!!!!
