flowers PA5We are lucky to have a “Free Library” on our street.  There are a couple in the neighbourhood.  I’ve had a peak once or twice, but haven’t had the time to take advantage of the possibilities.

I have been looking for a book to read, but even though we have a ton of books in the house, it is interesting, that I found the interesting enough when I bought them, way back when, but today, they hold no interest. None.  I pick one up, read the summary and put it back down.  I found one that is a mystery, the detectives are sheep???? what???? when I got that, or where I got it, I have no idea.

Today is anther day, full of promise.  Let’s see what is in “store” for me today.  Life is full of surprises.  Another present?  Another discovery?

Till Next time

charm in Sharon SpringsRemember this picture, it was taken when we were traveling in NY State, I was so taken with the charm found in the small towns and villages.  This gentle façade brings to mind another period in time.  When I was in San Francisco I was drawn to the “Victorian ladies” that SF is known for.  Architecture that is visually poetic in its appearance.

I noted in the last year or so that my delight in finding a book that I really would enjoy and maintain the desire to stay with the writer, till the book’s end had all but disappeared from my “leisure” pleasures.  So, I didn’t read, I busied myself with other hobbies, and “passions”.

I’m not big on most television programs.. tending to watch a select few from time to time.  I like being entertained if I am going to sit down and watch something, I want it to be interesting, and provide “food for fodder”  while having a storyline that provides a balance of entertainment and drama … without the need to bombard me with sexual innuendos, connotations or half naked persons, oh and let’s not forget the bloody killings,  senseless murders and vicious attacks on an other  human being or beings.

Looking through row upon row of books to stage a photo scene with the dolls, I found copies of the Nancy Drew mysteries, and Hardy Boys.  What I was looking for were the books put out by the American Girl division of Mattel* for the American Girl dolls.  At first they were simply cute, adorable dolls, with clothes.  The more I found out about the company, the more interested I became in their purpose.  The marketing has been well researched and developed.

As an adult looking at this “doll culture” it has been a fun educational project, that I didn’t go looking for, but discovered it by accident, have found a “passion”.  I’m reading about the lives of young girls from very different backgrounds, who grew up in different eras.  Each doll has his/her own storyline.  The owner of the doll can learn about the doll’s cultural background, and what it was like to grow up in America during the various years she is purported to have been growing up in.

To quote from the book jacket of the book I am reading now, in the Beforever series, A growing Suspicion, A Rebecca Mystery American Girl celebrates a girl’s inner star  The Rebecca Doll is 1914…. I chose this book because it is a mystery that takes place in and around a Japanese Garden, (growing up with chopsticks, I hadn’t thought about what they look like to others, who see them for the first time, our foods are different in how they are served, and how to some, having to use a knife and fork is challenging =^_^=)

I am so enjoying it.  There are no murders, no vicious attacks, no sex, and it is written in a way that my imagination takes over, and I  am with the girls, as they learn about Japanese gardening, life, and friendships.

You can discover more about American Girl products, stories and games by visiting americangirl.com/play  If you are in Canada, you can find information on the Indigo.ca site.  Look up  Pleasant T Rowland the woman who dared to dream and then make them come to life.

For Canadians, YES there is a Canadian doll, the MapleLea doll, unfortunately she is not found in stores, the company based in Ontario, decided to sell only online.  This way, enabling them to concentrate on the quality of the doll and her clothes.  Again, the main dolls, come from different provinces, and thus you learn about growing up in Canada, what it is like in the different Provinces.

Whatever way you are celebrating this long week-end, Canada Day in Canada and Independence day in the United States., be happy, enjoy each and every moment of your day.  It only comes by once.

362a2e5c57715554d428ea5b20027b59A friend asked me the other day.. what was I reading, I replied I was reading the Jewish Pleasure Principle by Rabbi Dr. Reuven P. Bulka.  “No, that isn’t what I meant, aren’t you reading a “real” book”

Now  having  known this friend a long time I knew what she meant, she was asking if I was reading a “leisure” book, to her the hardcover, was not “leisure” but a text-book.  A publication that speaks of formulating a Judaic approach to pleasure, attitudes to suffering, depression and mourning etc.was not her idea of “leisure”.

However the reading of a good stimulating journal that explores  and attempts to put balanced perspective through an investigation of primary sources, to me…. is interesting and I enjoy my discoveries.   Pleasure itself cn be viewed within the framework of the totality of life.  As a writer, I thrive on reading what someone else has put to paper, especially on topics that I find thought-provoking and interesting.

Yes I do enjoy a good  novel, where the settings are exotic, or can stimulate the gray cells into providing me a dreamy far away place where the drama of someone’s life unfolds, casts a spell and has me in that world for days until the story ends.

I had an interesting conversation with a young lady the other night, she boldly talked to me about intimate moments in her life, and I took it in and listened.  She spoke of loneliness and I flashed back to my younger years, we all live the same emotions in our own way.  We are not all story tellers, but we are characters in or own “stories” (lives).  How we play out our days, and create our endings… now that is another story.

cabin on the lake by D.Rogers photography

oh…what a find the perfect place to be…………….uh huh….. not for me….  what….. the water, the privacy the quiet cabin in the woods by a lake.. nope….  I would find this stifling, I wouldn’t like the dampness, or the bugs.

Tree house perfection

No, this is for me, open, bright, small, with just enough place for  1 maybe 2, but up near the clouds where the mind can explore and where sight and sound have no  bounderies. oh man…………….yesssss

Wherever you are today, whatever you are doing…. enjoy …. take it in….  make it yours…..

a new season will soon be here…

The warm fuzzy glow of a warm house, frost on the windows, air that is crisp and clear. Hmm not everyone smiles dreamily at the thought of the coming of winter, but I do.  There is something to be said about “nesting”.  Like a squirrel gathering nuts before the snow comes, I get in supplies like I think that it is the late 1800’s or early 1900’s and we need to be prepared.

Winter weather has been rather erratic of late, wow, places that seldom saw snow  have been hit with blizzards, crops in the southern states have had some brutal storms come their way.  All over the world, winter comes and changes where we live, and we have to adjust.

Before the days of instant news, and social media, we simply dealt with what came along. It might not have always been fun, or easy, but we took measures to  do our best to cope with the power outages, furnace malfunctions, delayed  transportation etc.  Now with “instant fixes, and gratification” it seems that there is more of a “panic” mode that sets in. OMG the cell phone is not working, or the TV  signal is all askew.

Arggghhh my PC is down.  Honeeeeee the internet is not working,  anguish at its best.  LOL been there done that.  Remember the days of trying to read by candle till the lights came back on.  How about the wind up radio, so you can hear the news should there be an announcement of when the power lines will be up again.

Winter is a special time, a time for spiritual rebirth, for reconnecting with the inner YOU.  A time where we can enjoy seeing the world new and fresh,  We are all unique and different in our own way, personalities and lifestyles vary.  One thing we all share is the gift of life and LOVE.

Let us do our best to see the positive in our lives, and to appreciate and show appreciation to those who share in our world. Whether close or far, reach out and say  hello, show you care.

On the Road again…..

camper, diana przytakoski-Cook

Good Morning, Bon Jour!

How are you? Dull and overcast here, so what, now that the eyes are open and my thoughts have turned to you, I remember this camper I found the other day when I was researching for an earlier blog.  Can you just feel the positive vibes from this cheerful little nest on wheels.  With the nicer weather, spring in the air, the tulips will soon be in full bloom along the canal. Food vendors will be out in the main tourist areas, the smell of fries and burgers wafting through the air, tempting the runners and the walkers.  I see the ice cream shops are open again along the main street, sure sign that spring is here.

california coast

This is the California Coast, what a journey this is.  I had the pleasure of doing this highway with my sister back a few years.  There was just so much to take in that I know that even if I do it another several times, I still will marvel and make new discoveries each time I travel through the area.  For sure, when you are on the highway, driving along, this is not the view you have.  Each wind in the road is another vista, another “oh Wow”, you live it and move on.  Have you noticed that what we learn easily or master effortlessly tends to be enjoyed, assimilated and then we move on.  Its forgotten.  However, lessons in life that come back to haunt us, or replay for us that test our inner resolve, or determination to acquire or “have”, not always a “party/good time”.  We struggle, we cry, we agonize, we can even have bouts of despair.  Some well meaning friend says, “you’ll be fine, tomorrow is another day”, intellectually you may hear the words, but your just not “feeling it”

Back to the cheerful little camper at the top of the page.  Since writing this blog, I’ve met several people who have told me they want to own a little home on wheels and they want to pack up and travel.  Surprisingly not only couples, but a lot of single retired women.  Families raised, empty nesters who want to just pick up and go.  Do what they have wanted to do for years,  Another blogger who just joined us recently, has her little camper all picked out. smiles and waves, you know who you are, bravo!  We travel our journeys step by step,  it is due to the many hardships we’ve gone through that we have the inner strength to take the  actions we need to follow our dreams.

I thank each and everyone of you reading along with me, for being part of my world, I so appreciate you all,  I enjoy hearing from you, my “door” is always open.  You are the sunshine in my life  =^_^+. These flowers are for you… enjoy your day.. Sending big hugs, packed with multiple blessings  and love.                Oyashikiri

Do you glance or do you read?

Good morning everyone..  earlier this week I received my PL Newsletter from Rev. Goto on New York.  In it, he has shared with us an article by Rev Toshio Suzuki*  His article began with a sentence that I read and re-read several times thinking that there was a typo.  It took a couple of readings and then going on and reading the next two sentences before what he was saying sunk in.  I am guilty myself at times of thinking I’m reading, but in fact my eyes are scanning and the brain is taking in what it is reading, but NOT necessarily  assimilating the information the way it is intended.

His opening paragraph is as follows.  Conviction and Faith, by Rev. Toshio Suzuki … If you want to see the truth of your faith, you should try to practice it very doubtfully, like “is it really true or not?”  Then you will come to the conclusion.  There is nothing more useless than neither doubting nor  believing.   To read more of what is said, please contact Rev. Goto in our New York church for a copy of this PL Newsletter.  His e-mail is goppoy@icloud.com   If you are in the NY area  (718)-424-8815.

While researching for a previous blog I found several interpretations or versions if you will of a photograph of the Mad Hatter as played by Johnny Depp. This is the one that struck me the most, and I went back to find it to use it today.  Since the picture had no explanation, as to how or why it was coloured the way it was, I can’t pass that information on to you.  I could only view it and  enjoy it from my perspective.  Most pictures I saw were in shades of black and white.  Like Rev. T.Suzuki’s words, this picture had arrested me in my search by making a statement that connected with something inside me.  I wanted more.  I really looked at it closely, the shading, the lace, the fingerless, frayed gloves, bandaged thumb,  the assorted pieces of accessories, everything.  All of the costume was very artfully pulled together to draw and capture the viewer’s attention.  When we are visual, which I am, the picture shouted at me, and I responded.  Words, are not as visual, they are a group of letters that come together to form a word.  We must read the words not necessarily by themselves, but with the words that come before and after them to really understand the intent of the writer.

Sunshine Blessings to you on this 22nd day of April.  Oyashikiri

remember, we can all look at the same picture , read the same words, and come away with our very own story-line.

Live With Passion

Live With Passion

Live with Passion – Sowing the Seeds of PL Faith, is a book by Rev. Yumiko Tsuyama, I bought this book because it was there, I’ve talked about it before in a previous blog. I really did not spend much time thinking about it. It has become my “spend a quiet moment to reflect” companion. I can’t recommend it enough.
How often in your life time have you gone looking for a “self help” book, or picked up a magazine and enjoyed an article that “spoke” to you … The content just stood out, and made you think.
Rev Yumiko was dedicated to her “craft”. Each of her “lessons” are short little testimonies of events, memories of her experiences.  You know this little book has me charmed because I wrote about it just the other day.  I open the book and read the lesson she speaks of then close the book and reflect on what I’ve read.  Not everyone wants to read volumes in one go, this book is done is such a way that we can pick it up and trust/believe that it will open to the lesson you should be reading.  =^_^=  ..It is written in a way that every time you read it, you will find it will speak to you.

Copies are available at the church, if you live in the States, we have churches in the States, pickup a copy, if you have  one already, consider gifting one to a friend. I don’t usually promote books, forgive me, I’m just very enthusiastic about this book.  Have trouble find a source, contact me I’ll be happy to direct you to a church.

My lesson today was about Hosho Spirit… this has been a lesson for me .. it takes faith for me, and it will be an ongoing lesson for me, reading her  “teaching” today, spoke to me, even though I’ve heard it expressed before, in many ways, her words today, her simple story, gave me an AH! moment.

(Hosho = sincere offering of money to the church, whereby the person is blessed physically, spiritually and financially by Oshieoyasama’s  Shikiri.)

(Shikiri = PL’s unique way of prayer, asking God’s blessing with a sincere promise to accomplish what we have to do)

Love and Blessings, today and always – Good Morning everyone!!!!

Intuition & Appreciation

Intuition & Appreciation

Over the many years of my existence I’ve learned to follow my intuition, if a thought pops up into my head, I do my best to act on it. Usually I discover, that there was a reason for my actions.
I had planned today to be out with a friend, however, it didn’t happen, so I found myself with “free” time. We have been away for several days, days that were busy, fun and full of activity. Ah HA! time to regroup and just chill.
Having decided that was what I was going to do and feeling very content with that decision, I was rather surprised to hear myself suggest to hubby that I go along with him to the extreme west end of the city.
Believe me when I offered to tag along, I had not idea why I wanted to get back in the car to drive and shop some more, There are two shops in that end of town that I have gift certificates for, but I was not pumped to shop.  My attitude was one of “I’ll just explore”
At the first shop, I found the perfect gift for friends that I will be seeing in a couple of weeks. Wow, I thought, this is great, must be why I wanted to be here.  The next shop just blew me out of the water. The bookshelves were full of books on one of my favourite topics. Philosophy and Theology. My head was spinning as I tried to select only a few of the books and not gather them all and dump them in my basket.  I found two wonderful dictionaries, Pocket Oxford Chinese dictionary, so new I could still smell the pages, it will go with my Oxford Advanced Learner’s English-Chinese dictionary, and the Oxford School French Dictionary, both mint.
ahhh heaven!
Oh, and a brand new copy of The Tao of Willie (A guide to Happiness in your heart, by Willie Nelson). There are many more, but I will share them with you over time, this is a blog after all and not a novel.
Since I’m recently back from Japan, I may start with Religion and Social Crisis in Japan (Understanding Japanese Society through the Aum Affair).. hmmm not light reading.  BUT, I allowed my intuition to guide me in my choices. When I look at the variety in my choices I’m happy happy happy..

When you pray on a regular basis, you become more and more comfortable with you “intuition”, in prayer we learn to realize that as humans we do not live solely by our own power, We “are” thanks to the “grace of God”

For this I give thanks, and have a true appreciation for things as they are. I accept what comes my way, with ‘age” I am learning that accepting isn’t always a walk in the park.. and if I don’t know at the time, I will eventually know, what the Universe has intended for me.

When you let go and listen to  your intuition -you will be blessed, treasure the fleeting “connection with a higher power”,  your inner smile deepens to and fills you with Joy.  multiple BLESSINGS are being sent your way filled with love and appreciation,
