Fresh from the farm

We are lucky where we live, during the summer, there are always fresh produce stalls in the outdoor markets.  However, even better is when we drive a little out of the city and get the produce directly from the farmer.  That is what we did yesterday.  I was a tad restless, my son’s heart surgery was  postponed till today.  I wanted a distraction and it was a lovely day for a drive to the St Lawrence. (a  major waterway that borders Canada and the United States)  We packed the two dogs into the car and off we went, the best part of the drive for the dogs is that there is a wonderful dog park in Morrisburg, well maintained and gated.  On our way back we stopped at one of my favourite farms for fresh corn, this farm always has the sweet golden nuggets, they do have the peaches and cream too, but I like the succulent gold.  The plums called out to me and of course I munched on fresh plums on the way home.  At just the right time of the year, the flesh of the plum is delicate and sweet, even the skin is nice.

Diet is such an important factor in our well being, yet we forget at times that there is a difference between fresh from the farm, and store bought.  I confess that even for me, it is hard to always get fresh and consume it while it is still in that  very fresh stage.  I bought yellow wax beans and green beans, when I prepared them for supper, they were so fresh, they snapped clean when being prepared.  The smell or fragrance if you will of the vegetables was alive ..unlike a packaged vegetable that lacks any smell when you take it from the sanitized packaging.  The corn was “out of this world”  I do mine in the microwave, it is steamed in its own sleeves. this way, when it is peeled, it is ready to eat, no salt, no butter, just the yellow meat of the kernel.  Delicious.

Having tasted one of the best veggie dinners I’ve had in a long time, I then found myself thinking of preparing a stew for my meat and potatoes hubby.  Using the fresh ingredients, I would start  from scratch.  So today I went to the butchers to find stewing beef.  There was none on hand, so had to settle for a piece of steak that needed to be tenderized.  The anticipation of cutting up the meat, and preparing the vegetables was wonderful.  I bought turnip, parsnip, yellow flesh potatoes, and I knew I had red onion, and fresh garlic at home.  Usually we are so busy, that dinners can be something quick and easy.  It was nice to chop and prepare, then get things going on the stove.  The aroma that filled the kitchen was familiar and relaxing.  Since I was in a cooking mood, I put a pot of water on and started a pork stock with garlic and ginger (used for making different Chinese soups).. yes I had purchased pork bones to do this while I was out.  It is like a ripple in the water, the fresh produce from the farm started a need for my creativity to explore and satisfy my taste buds.  My son loves to cook and has done several cooking videos on a number of dishes he likes.

I want to thank the many of you who are praying for him today, it means a lot to us.  A love for cooking and good food is something that we share.  Brigitte his wonderful partner in life told me he went into surgery at 7:30 this morning feeling and looking very relaxed.  Food nourishes the body, love and prayer nourish the soul. My son and I are marinating right now in God’s embrace.

Blessings everyone.

Sleep

Sleep

When we enter the sleeping quarters, off come the shoes. I found that very symbolic, leave the outside at the door, enter the area where you will lay down and sleep for exactly that, sleep.  All the time I was away, I did not encounter a problem with falling asleep. Didn’t even think about whether or not I would fall asleep, I simply lay down and slept. That is not what usually happens when I’m at home.
I will admit that since I stopped reading in bed, my sleep has improved. No TV, no computers, in the bedroom. Not even a radio. The mind is so easily distracted. The mind is a chatterbox.  if you are wanting to eliminate the need for “sleep aids”, then preparing for a sound sleep is like preparing for a special event, You have to find out what works for you and then work at acquiring the ambiance and atmosphere.
Sleep is so important to our well being.
In order to be able to apply the PL teachings to your day to day life, you first need to know how. That is why in the Church of PL, we offer individual guidance.

I actually received a consultation the other day and came away with insight I had not expected. It is good to be reminded of something you’ve let slip by or forgotten. sometimes just talking  out loud about personal thoughts, and concerns helps, and again sometimes, all we need is someone to “listen”  In PL we are always here for you.

Leave your “shoes” at the door. May your sleep be blessed with a deep and serene bliss.

Breaking free

Breaking free

My cough was really getting to me. I stopped what I was doing, and took time to pray. (I pray a lot, I like it, find it refreshing and soul satisfying, yes LOL it can be habit forming) I was giving my cough way too much attention, sure it was hard to ignore, and it was distracting and annoying, but it was mine.
When talking to Rev.Eugene (Sr. Minister PL church) earlier, he did point out that the coughing was nature’s way for the body to rid itself of the “bad” it was having to deal with.  So………… coughing was simply a natural happening in my body right now.  Coughing was a positive towards healing.
Accepting that, and understanding that the act of coughing and all the other “activities” my body was wanting to do ….was “nature’s way” of ridding impurities from my system made it much easier to “go with the flow” (pun intended)

Changing my thinking, changes the vibrational frequency in my “chi” giving my “sick” body less fuel, giving it the message its free to go =^_^=

I’m going to bed and plan to wake up well rested and ready to enjoy a new day.  Good night everyone, I hope your day was rewarding.  I had a great day, and will hit the pillows with a smile and a lot of contentment for a day well lived.

Blessings Be…..

Misasage

Misasage

The word Misasage is frequently used in PL. It literally means to dedicate your body, or to dedicate yourself for the sake of others and society.
I knew very early in life that I would live a life a “service”, not that I understood the “calling” just that I needed to do or be the person I was. The path I walked was not necessarily the one pointed out to me, I knew the “WAY” and that was where I wanted to be. When I strayed, I learned from the “adventure”, and got back on the path.  Challenges in life, help us to grow.
What is so unique about PL is that to embody the teachings, one must engage 100%. not just understand intellectually. Live in the moment, be mindful every step of the “way”.
Oshieoya-sama gives us simple and practical ways to learn to live the PL WAY.  It is important to put your heart into even the smallest of matters, each moment accumulate into the whole of your artistic life.

Night is the time for regeneration -retire from the cares of the day, bathe and immerse yourself in the gestating power of the dark.  Till tomorrow.

Blessings be.

Yin – Yang

Always there are two sides.   Positive – Negative,  Male, Female, Sun – Moon,    Day- Night, one compliments the other. There are times in my life when I am drawn to the lighter side of life, and other times where I find beauty and wonder in the darker arts.  Yesterday I couldn’t stop reading a historical novel full of love and intrigue.  Today I am deep into the meaning of enlightenment.  I recently picked up the summer issue of Light of Consciousness, thought to take it on the trip with me to read during the long waits between flights.  It proved to have so many articles in it that I wanted to spend time with, i.e. “Visions of the female Buddha” by Deborah Bowman, and Sleep Better with Mindfulness by Joseph Emet  that I couldn’t wait to delve into its pages.  Now of course it will stay here so that I don’t lose it while I’m travelling.   I will pick up lighter fare for the trip, magazines that I won’t mind leaving behind for the next traveler.

In life it is important to continue along the spiritual path towards our goals.    It is also important to know that our goals are not set in stone.  As we develop and “mature” our needs change, what we wanted and needed a few years back, may not be where we are headed today.  It is essential that we take the time to “meditate” and look at the positives as well as the negatives of our “now”, before we move on.  Ask yourself, is it an appropriate time to act.  The time to act is when you have the correct inner attitude, and the commitment to follow through on whatever it is you decide to do.

We are all different and have our own unique personalities and lifestyles.  Therefore, how we practice PL to solve our problems, or to express our true selves will vary.  In consultation with a PL minister, we receive guidance and support that is tailored to our individual needs.

The PL teaching for day 18

The Value of Money and Things Depends on How You Choose to Use Them.  Money and things are materials for your self expression.  Use them to their fullest for the sake of others and society.

Letting Go

Letting Go I will be leaving soon for Japan, finally, the time is drawing near. Next week. I will be leaving all my electronic gadgets at home and boarding a plane for an island far away, one that I have only read about or seen on travel shows. I know that this trip will change my life forever. It is a trip I have waited for, for a very long time. 1. Rensei training, PL’s unique spiritual, mental and physical training, conducted only at the PL Holy Land. By participating in this specially blessed training, one’s state of mind can be purified and we can embody the PL teachings.  2. I will be there for the annual Founders’ Day Ceremony, a power packed event that ends with an hour long display of the world’s greatest fireworks “The Art of PL Fireworks” I am being asked so many questions from friends and family. Will I take pictures, will I sight see, will I shop? Nothing is further from my mind. In preparation I have been meditating, and praying not only to try to prepare for this experience, but to accept the Letting Go of the part of “me” that will not be coming back. Daily I’ve been cleaning out, & paring down of material possessions.  With each piece I pass along, the more the physical space becomes uncluttered,, the more serene I become. PL teaching day 17..Always Challenge Yourself With New things... Life is interesting because we always encounter unknown or new situations that we have never experienced before. Proactively challenge each new situation. Meanwhile, our new Sr. Minister (Rev. Eugene) arrives this week, we will meet Saturday for a special ceremony, and Sunday the 21st we will all celebrate Thanksgiving together.  The PL community will gather to meet and greet. Please if you are in the area, you know that you are welcome to attend.  Contact information can be had from our web page.  Rev. Goto will now be based out of New York. He will continue from there to be available to anyone  wanting information on PL     Rev. Tiago our resident minister is also available to assist you in Portuguese, Spanish,French,or English. Blessings.  Good Night everyone!

GOOD MONDAY MORNING

GOOD MONDAY MORNING

What a happy day. Another day, a new canvas, a new writing page, Wow, will it be colourful, monotone, oh so many choices. With those absolutely delicious looking cherries still outside my window, I need to continue to search for a way to share them. Abundance is so much more
pleasurable when it is shared.

What about you, what do you plan to do today?
What ever you do, or have been doing, since some of you live in a very different time zone. I pray that you are happy, and that life is good to you ..
I feel so blessed to be sharing this moment with you.

Blessings everyone! Happy Happy Monday….

Good Sunday Morning Everyone!

Good Sunday Morning Everyone!

What a beautiful sunny day, the cherries outside my window are plentiful, brilliant shades of red against the variegated greens of the leaves.
How are you today? Feeling a little tired, rundown, hard to get the old pepperu going…
Come join us for church today, or take yourself out into the sunshine and enjoy a walk in the fresh air under clear blue skies. If it is raining where you are, enjoy the upturned faces of flowers as they bathe in the freshness of the cooling rain.

Life is good. sometimes we have to give ourselves a little boost, but always when one believes, as I know you do….. in prayer and in community, we grow and we thrive. You are loved and never alone. Never!

Blessings everyone!

God Resides in Your Prayerful MInd

God Resides in Your Prayerful MInd

PL teaching day 13 > God Resides in Your Prayerful Mind. In addition to making heartfelt and continuous effort, Let’s pray to God. He/She will surely respond to your Makoto (sincerity)

Mioyaookami -God> is not a person, male or female. God is the power, source and law of the universe. (In PL we call God, Mioyaookami.)

Just as we know that our bodies must be fed, and renewed by having a good night’s sleep on a regular basis, so must we connect with the “Divine/Universe” in a constant orderly “way”
PL faith grows not only through intellectual understanding but through heartfelt prayer on a daily basis.

” The ultimate Tao is called absolute. We cannot know it directly because it has no definitions, references or names. Our normal minds are incapable of perceiving where there is no contrast. Yet is it precisely this colorless infinity that is the underlying reality to this life. Deng Ming-Dao
