It was COLD yesterday morning, the blue jays were puffed up as they patiently waited for me to throw down their morning treat of peanuts in a shell. They do tackle the whole corn kernels and kibbe/sunflower seeds, but its the peanuts that they favour, Enthusiastic diners! With a prowling “eat you up” bird in the neighbourhood, I stayed with them ,.. going back and forth to my car to the various feeders which gave them the time to have breakfast … The “merlin” (Falco columbarius) is a small species of falcon that preys on the smaller birds. Another reason that I sometimes sit with them while they dine.. (mornings when it is as cold as it was yesterday, there are/were no other “human” visitors to be seen or heard from. it was Blissful!

We have a bird feeder in our garden and the birds are so used to me that they don’t even fly away when I walk closer to throw them seed. We have lots of finches, but I’ve never seen a blue jay in our garden. Lovely picture.
