sounds of snow

01bab9cc8ee11e0865791ab1861650ae8812c1af6b

There is something to be said about the sounds on waking during or after a fresh snow fall.  It is a muffled silence that wraps the house in a cozy ambiance.. .I lay for almost an  hour today visiting the many postings of friends on Facebook.  Never would I do such a thing on another day.  Somehow the quiet of the morning allowed the lazy side of me to enjoy the moment.  I got to see videos that I otherwise would probably not have seen because I would have been up out of bed and right into my morning routine.

01f3f5cd21e1530b98cb6267f005f07dd81f66074fWhen I did get up, it was to grab the iPhone and head for the back door to take some pictures to share with you on the wonders of the new fresh fallen snow.  Suet and bird feed are put in the feeders in the front where active dogs can’t get at the dropped seeds.   First line of attack for birds is the feeders themselves, only when they can’t get at the feeder or the feeder is bare waiting for a refill do they pick up after themselves.  OK ok that is not quite true, the smarter ones are happy to get the fresh seed slopped by the type A birds that are busy trying to outdo themselves by being first on the small ledge of the feeders.

While we think of decorating trees and our homes, Mother Nature has been busy putting her own signature on the look of the holiday season. “Life is Art” (PL Precept 1)  Yesterday this same scene would have been drab and weary from the cold winters day.  Today with the artistic touches of nature, it is vibrant and alive, giving us a totally different side of its many “faces”..

01933c1c65440aa172f7dd966dcb0952e1d853c6d9

In every little nook and cranny of our “inner selves” is a story to be told, a “golden moment”  we have lived and will relive in another season.  Some lessons come back too many times to count, others come along, and we never see them again, why, because we captured and retained the essence of the first visit.

0162f5811908271b1e537c6350bdf4d5a7a7416f8fMy lazy mind appreciated the morning lie in, so did the dogs who never stirred from my side, we were swaddled under warm blankets and the quilt I made a couple of years ago.  We were content.  Enjoy such moments when they come to you.  The  many “sounds of snow”… just one of the pleasures of winter.

Hope you enjoyed the tour of my winter garden.  Love you all, each and every one of you. =^_^=

The Japanese Snow Monkey enjoys the snow, and in Kyoto, Japan, the big snowflakes make for a lovely picture.  Taken outside the Kamigamo Shrine.

Even though the forecast is for snow, and a lot of it over the next day or so, I think I’ll find ways to enjoy my day/night in ways that won’t be complicated by the snowfall.  Besides, what they say will happen, may not happen at all.

living in the moment

977b9042fda61356a59f87c1600dae3bWhen we live the PL way, we live in the moment, and we experience all of what life has to offer.  We are students of life.

PL Principle #1      I will live paying careful attention, putting Makoto (sincerity) into ALL I say and do.

Saturday I had planned to stay home, and work on my blog.  That was my plan for the day, the Universe had other ideas.. mid morning I found myself on the highway headed out of town, towards a thrift shop about a 20 minute drive from where I live, on a super highway.  Back roads would have taken twice the time or longer.  I zipped along with no idea of what lay ahead.  As the miles flew by my mood got lighter, my thoughts clearer.  The day was a charmer, clear, cool and brisk.

f88149141d9df7ce68a15195e8bed139

As my journey continued, I found myself driving along country roads, past farmers fields, stretches of open road with nothing but plowed fields with their light dusting of snow.  There were areas of woodlands, with creeks and the odd boulder or two.  As the scenes before me changed so did the thoughts in my mind.  Instead of jumbled and tossed around one on top of the other, they were spaced out, calmer, and more focused.

From my first destination, I had planned on another destination that was across country back roads to another non profit location, south west of my original starting point.  I was almost there, when to my surprise I decided to head north up a highway that would lead me home instead of further away.  OK I thought, I’ll just visit this other shop that is on the highway once I’m in the city.

f9327a173c74b56bc6145d13b8db98a6

When I was driving through a very small hamlet, where the grocery store once was, I saw large Chinese lettering, and a cars stationed in front of the building.  I have driven by this building often enough, when it was a grocery store, we had stopped once so I could get water.  It had been vacant now for some time. With no thought at all, I turned in and parked.  Walked up to the door to knock, only to have it open in welcome as I arrived.

18 rules of life

I had arrived in time for a special service and lecture by a visiting monk from China (Mongolia).  Who knew!  The member who spoke to me was very gracious, and when another member arrived who spoke English arrived, I was helped to “dress” for the service (they participants wore special robes to show their respect while in the temple) and how to hold my hands when chanting.  (no I had never chanted before, nor had I ever attended a Buddhist service)  Yes the service was in Chinese, and NO I do not speak Chinese.

Taming of the shrew

4211fa7ca06396de9ee8c271b38d424b

Shrew? me?……. yes you!

oh my I had not thought of myself as a shrew…

hmmm what to do…

oh, the dictionary says I’m a cute mammal

with a long pointed snout

and tiny eyes…. kinda cute….

oooooh, you don’t mean that shrew!

9b3531a0d197ad71a7b25f029cddd9a5.jpg shrew

oh oh, a shrew is also a bad-tempered, aggressively assertive woman

really, this is what you think of me

oh my goodness….. your reality is your perspective isn’t it???

so somewhere in my personality I must demonstrate such traits

a235f785e9ae27da7d89f32e0b31907dwhat to do, what to do

if I care for you , which I do

I must assume some responsibility

for how I am perceived…

yes… I must, I must…

df4d41766b3b726ba4e4ba7236e3a0bb

small in this world I may be

but the power of love

is huge, it will help me to

make the changes in my life that I need to

so  the cute shrew I’ll be

by setting the negative in me free.

Hey it snowed last night!

Ahhhh don’t we wish it could be so, idyllic fresh fallen snow, the crisp country air and evergreens looking like sugar-coated fantasy trees in a Disney movie.

This was a picture found on social media after the big storm in the Buffalo area. (Yahoo  news)  Somewhere between the two lies the different realities of a winter day in the part of the world that enjoy the wonders of nature’s four seasons.

Sadly even those who know that winter comes every year, and have been how to drive in snow, forget or choose to  do it “their own way”  Often drivers have not even prepared their cars for winter driving.

We are not all in positions where we can avoid being out when Mother Nature gives full expression to her capabilities, however, as in all situations in life, if we are prepared, and focused on what we are doing, challenges are always easier to deal with.  When we deal with situations out of our control in creative ways, ingenuity lights the way,

Believe you can do it.  And know without a doubt, that God/Tao  will see you through. (picture of a commuter during a bad storm in London in January 1988) – below is a picture taken Dec.13.2013  of snow in Egypt, the first time in 112 years.

Jail and wedding chapel

Although I have heard during my lifetime, that some have found marriage to be very restrictive at times, and non to happy to be tied in what they have considered a “life sentence”.. when I saw this picture all I could think of was that somewhere, in years past, someone had a sense of humour.

We are the makers of our own destiny … we are the culprits that live with the challenges created by or from choices we have made. We are the leading characters, and sometimes even the directors of the scenes we are cast into.

7843c12107bbf7f0340abf2d4153ed38

There is a difference between being abandoned, and “lost in time”  When you abandon, you give up, you walk away, and don’t look back.   If we choose to recreate and live in a manner that is “lost in time”  we are happy with our choices.  When we abandon often the feelings are negative.

3e04fbe6724ecdc3312d3e7e7230654c

How does one go about changing a negative mind to a more positive mine.  Negativity can become a habit. Best solution is to begin now, one thought at a time.  If we feel a negative thought bubbling up, try to counter act it with a positive one.  At first it won’t be easy, but with time the positive outlook will win out.

2d6ad3a4f516cb48ef3e392e3e0043d3

Obstacles will go disappear, the rain will go away, and you will find that life will be lived in a much brighter world. All very poetic, but it does work, when we live putting a positive face to what we do…. we reap the benefits of all the work we did overcoming past negativities.

Colosso dell’Appennino

There are times in life when I can only sit, and look in wonder at what is before me.  This is a photograph found on pictify.com of a sculpture.  Colosso dell’Appennino in the Parco Mediceo di Pratolin near Florance Italy.  Sculptor Giamologna (1580)  credit given for photo is Dave Ellis.

Please allow me to share a poem with you by Margaret Ingall.

**Stillness is a doorway,

A space within the mind,

A place we may abide in

And leave the world behind

A realm of tender silence

Of nurturing and calm

Where hopefulness and healing

Enfold us in their balm

It waits for you to find it

Just let life’s hustle cease

And enter through that doorway

To wisdom and to peace.**

Day by day, find time to embrace the beauty that is in the world for us to see and enjoy.  We are on a journey of discovery, how we view our world will greatly impact on our perception of the life we are living.

Meet  Tabitha, a sewing machine (1886-1890) a work of art. The exquisite details, I wonder what it was like to work with. It looks like it must have been very heavy.

sewing machinem victorian weir pedestal treadle

This model is a Victorian Weir Pedestal Treadle machine, operated with your feet, it would have allowed for movement of the material with two hands.  Not that sewing isn’t a labour of love now, of course it is, but the modern-day  machines make sewing a little less tedious than it might have been in days gone by.

So much has changed, lifestyle, clothing, technology…. change is the only constant in life.… AND…. the constant blessings of living in a world where the “Universe/GOD” is “supreme”.

Let us pray that we can come together

openly with the same goal in mind

Peace on earth & goodwill to all

Sow the seed of fellowship in all you do

Be genuine in your actions, let love surround you..

like the seamstress or tailor

that sews with positive intentions

you can be a conduit that brings calm and serenity

to those around you.

Simplicity

If you are fortunate to be walking  or driving slowly by, the rhythmic sound of the horse’s hooves and the turning wheels is very pleasant.

3ff439863813bbb2cdc794965d5b61df

Soft muted shades of the Amish clothes, to some is very soothing.  Laundry that hands outside to dry always has such a fresh smell to it.  Winters, laundry is hung under cover or outdoors, just as in other seasons.

e54deae8cb9836ed40b3ed6c83cc96c6

When a large piece of a barn has to be moved, Amish men come together to carry it along the highway to its destination.  this was in the Kalona area of Iowa.

3bbb5c5d7f86369179ccb83da7bc4082

Simple, plain, no mirrors, the basics.

Now this is an Amish quilt I’d like to get a closer look at.  Wouldn’t you?

560fa165e68494eaeeff838140531084

This brings back memories of days when we would see sights like this on country roads if we were driving through farm country.  The smell of freshly cut hay wafted through the car windows as we followed slowly along behind.  It gave us a wonderful opportunity to just sit back and coast along while taking in the sights around us.  When the farmer could, they would usually pull over and give us the OK to pass.397a1d0674177698d6c0725ed83cc7f2Noooooooooooooo, not what you think.    It is common in some Amish communities to allow the use of a telephone, but not in a home.  Several families will share a telephone, that is conveniently place in a small wooden shanty between the farms.  If there is a need to use the internet, there are usually libraries in nearby towns.

3f4266cbdfbcdfab70e0122a7041105c

Sewing is done by hand or with a treadle sewing machine.  I was very humbled when invited into an Amish home.  I saw her machine and her home-made  quilting frame.  She worked at night by kerosene lamp and what ever light came in through the windows.  She told me she did most of her sewing and quilting in the winter months when there was less to do in the fields.

0f398a121325853888f63d0026cb2a10

Simplicity – when was the last time you walked along a stream in your bare feet,  turned off all the lights at night and just enjoyed the evening stars.  There is a saying ” If you want something you’ve never had, then you have got to do something you’ve never done.”

Live your life!

Forget your age, and what others have to say..

Only you can make the changes in your life

To live life your way.

Happy Thanksgiving

f7b702e84622d90b41dda34477cfd230

When I keyed in the word Thanksgiving, my screen was instantly filled with pictures of food,  Very delicious tempting foods, from salads, veggie dishes to main dishes.  But I was looking for more. Even the crock pot BBQ Beer pulled chicken with cheddar corn popovers, tho’ yummy, was passed on.

crockpot BBQ Beer pulled chicken Thanksgiving I know is about gathering with friends and family to enjoy the bounty of a good fall harvest.  Often it is the last big feast before the holidays in December.

For members of PL (Perfect Liberty)  we celebrate Thanksgiving  every 21st of the month. 12 months of the year.   Why .. because it is an important reminder that we should always be thankful and grateful for the life we are living.  I came across a prayer the other day I would like to share part of it with you.

Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers,

But to be fearless in facing them.

Let me not beg for the stilling of my pain,

But for the heart to conquer it.

Let me not look for allies in life’s battlefield

But to my own strength.

cf4271bdcb5385416d2456f17aa844a0

I am grateful every day for my friends, I count each and everyone of you as a friend.  I am truly blessed.  May the Universe grant you your prayers, this day and always.  Blessings …
