What a wonderful holiday, what views, what excitement with each new place we “discovered”, it was one “wow”! after another, the fresh air, the under travelled roads, hidden treasures. wow, wow, wow!

Italy,Capri,Campania by claudiodelfuoco flickrWhether we are driving the coast of Italy, or rounding a bend on the island of Cape Breton, Canada,Mother Nature never fails to amaze us with her awesome natural  sculptures that have been long in the making.

nova scotia, cape bretonHolidays, happen, they come and go, but the memories live on, the intoxications of the moment, the moments when words fail you, where  you simply have no   choice but to look out in wonder at what your eyes, mind, body, and soul are feeling. These moments are real, and will always be a part of you.

Buongiornio

This delightful island with about 3000 residents, is a colourful sight.  Its main industries are fishing and lace making, the houses were originally painted in this way so that fisherman could see their homes from sea,  Practical, but for me, when I   look at the wonderful array of colours i see love and harmony, especially when the sun is shining down on the community

When I first saw this picture, I had to look at it again to see if it was a painting or a picture. The yellow is so sunny, so bright and cheerful.  What struck me about the place is the serenity and quiet of the place.  I saw the pictures first, and then the video.

ede9c95b-9eac-4354-bfab-2aac792d93e1This picture with the visual inclusion of signs of life, took me right to the village, I could imagine the children playing outside, the women gathering to talk over coffee.  The curtain pulled across so that the family could enjoy the fresh air and still retain their privacy.  The village has been there for years and years, the lacing industry there since 1400’s.  It takes tourists about 45 min. to get there by boat, Burano is an island in the Northern Venetian Lagoon, close to Venice and Murano. It is known for its brightly  hued houses,  We can certainly see why.

You know how I love doors.  Doors are the symbol (for me) of new beginnings.  I love, love, love them.  Their diversity, the mystery, the adventure.  It appears that in this community, I would never lack for an interesting door or doorway.

In our immediate world, the doors may not always be visible but they are there never-the-less.  Watch for them,be flexible in your wanderings, dare to step outside the box and explore a new door today.  or   let one close, and enjoy the freedom of exploring and seeing the world with fresh eyes, eyes wiling to surrender to the joy of living, basking in the emotions of life and the myriad pleasures derived from living life to its fullest.

Sodalite

sodalite-rough

If you are a believer in the power of gemstones, their healing properties, then you know of the Sodalite mineral.   Information gathered from folklore, other writing sources gives this mineral alleged powers.  Prior to being tumbled, they mineral looks something like the picture above.  After the rock is tumbled and polished it can look like this palm sized specimen shown below.

palm-sodalite

Favourite for wearing or carrying it close to you, is of course  jewelry.  Because of the various claims, how you use it will depend on what you are wanting from the mineral’s energy force.  Below is a lovely piece set in sterling silver.  since Sodalite is associated with the thyroid, a pendant would be nice, worn on a necklace.  One source lists Sodalite as being helpful when a person is wanting to lose weight.  You can see it is believed to be a very versatile and powerful mineral.

In books on gemstones, Sodalite is said to bring inner peace, if you keep it in your pocket so that it with you at all times and in rooms you spend a lot of time in, the peaceful properties will flow all around you.  A dark stone, it  is interspersed with white calcite.  Largest deposits are from Brazil.  It is said that Sodalite will harmonize the inner being or the conscious and sub conscious mind, promoting peace and harmony. =^_^=  fellow bloggers it is supposed to be extra lucky for writers.  For  those of you who are active in athletic endeavours such as sports that require endurance, Sodalite is the stone for you.

A beautiful display of Sodalite rock in Namibia, also found in the lavas of Vesuvius, Italy.  although massive sodalite samples are opaque, crystals are usually transparent to translucent.  Above photo was taken by Charlie Waite, you can see his work on his web page, http://www.charliewaite.com.

sodalite in natural form

The above natural raw sodalite gemstones were found on etsy.com    Here I know that I can go down to the museum and purchase  another small specimen, that is if I can’t locate what I’ve done with my own pieces.  It was my desire to search out my piece that got me started on this particular blog. =^_^=.    When opportunity knocks open the door!

Happy Wednesday everyone! Soccer?

soccer

If you have been watching any of the FIFA games, then you have to be someone who appreciates the game of football/soccer.  To be honest I have only discovered the game in the last couple of years.  Prior to that it was beyond me why anyone would want to watch men at sport.  I thought it to be like any other sport game I’d seen over the years. NO. Not so.  I actually found myself sitting in front of a television one day while a game of soccer was on, Italy was playing at the time, I can’t tell you who the other team was, I was mesmerized by the athletic prowess, the dexterity, the passion and determination that was unfolding before my eyes.  The sound wasn’t on, all I saw was the ballet, the execution of movements that were almost unreal in the performance that played out before me.  The game was fast, the colours on the screen were constantly moving, the effect was so artistic. Like an abstract painting come to life.

Now of course I watch with the sound on, and I get involved with whatever team I am taken by. My husband who understands the game and can tell you details that are lost on me, shakes his head at my excitement and sometimes very loud cries of encouragement to the players who can’t hear me.  For me it is not a sporting event, it is a game of magic and dance, of fantastic energy that gives pleasure and excitement as you are drawn in the dynamics of the event.  I decide on a team by the performance and their skill at capturing my imagination with their art form.  If it is just a game of technical ho-hum plays, its boring I walk away.  Does anyone else see it my way?

soccer - Holland

Isn’t Orange a dynamic colour? LOL  what a game they played.    I tell you ladies, turn off the sound, and watch a game, the energy and focus these guys have when they play is phenomenal. No hands, footwork bodies and head.

Have a good day everyone…    Nederlands plays Australia today!  You not going to be around, tape it!

Friday 13th! a good luck day!

balance - photo by Emba As

Balance is the order of the  day – activity –  as shown in this first picture that  I discovered on a Google plus site (Emba As).  I meant to land and  retrieve the picture, however he has some other amazing shots that if you have time to visit, check them out.  So I enjoyed an interlude of soaking up the ambience found on his site.   The daring, the confidence, and the faith of these riders, to me is mind boggling. but then I am not a cyclist.  =^_^= It must be an exhilarating feeling!

Italy,Venicem by the canal by Neil Cherry on FivehundredpxBalance after activity is rest.  What a wonderful location to enjoy a relaxing time with friends, or alone just taking in the view and atmosphere of the place.  ( By the Canal was taken by Neil Cherry, and found on Fivehundredpx)  There are wonderful cafe’s and outdoor patio’s almost  anywhere now,  often found on busy city streets, and crowded shopping  districts,I rather liked the quiet feeling that being by the water would bring.  Somehow I picture that the boats would drift by adding to the charm of the moment.

And yes, I did mean that Friday the 13th is a lucky day… I’m not alone, I also know that there are many who have a dread of the day …I accept that the world is filled with differences, that is what makes us all unique.  Good things happen every day when you live looking for the positives in life.

Make today, your day..smile. smiles are healthy for the body, mind and spirit.

India’s living bridge

The living bridge by http://www.amoschapple.com  The description given was by Jessica Peavy

Deep in the rainforests of the Indian state of Meghalaya, bridges are not built, they’re grown. For more than 500 years locals have guided roots and vines from the native Ficus Elastica (rubber tree) across rivers, using hollowed out trees to create root guidance systems.

bridge, livingIngenuity. man and Nature.

How ingenious the idea boggles my mind.  Who was the first to begin this chain of action that created this marvel. There is not only this bridge, there are others, you will find them if you do  a search on Google or…… In life we grow by overcoming obstacles and challenges that land in our everyday lives.  They can appear like weeds in the cracks of sidewalks, or a stubborn stain on a favourite shirt. LOL we know what to do with these, and if we don’t, usually there is someone we can ask or a place to go to find a solution. What about the problems that come along that aren’t so easily solved.  Do you view your problems as opportunities for growth?  do you make the best of the situation you find yourself in, or dealing with?   I wonder how long it takes for the roots of the rubber tree to grow, does anyone know?

I am reminded how everlasting Nature is, and how even with the slings and arrows we (humans) bombard her with, the sun comes up each morning, and the moon comes out at  night.  Soon I will be able to look out my back door and see the new growth in the trees and shrubs.  When the sun is higher in the sky, I’ll feel the warmth on my skin, and smell the earth soaking in the energy of life, to feed the winter weary roots that are waking after a long cold winter.  The sun and moon bridge our days and nights.

Italy, Pompei, oriignal road, by p'titesmith 12 on flickr

History captured by ptitesmith 12 and posted on Flickr.   Here is a road that most have been build rock by rock (Pompei, Italy)  See how smooth the years have made them.  Each one of us, like these rocks, or the roots above, are being guided, we are only a piece/particle in a very large cosmos.  Will there be a reminder  of our  having been here, when we are gone, returned to dust/ashes.  I would be like a gentle autumn breeze rustling the multi coloured leaves till they fall, creating a patchwork of different shapes and shades against fields of yellow, gold and green.  Sometimes felt, remembered but not seen.

Buongiorno -Good day everyone!

Italy,Amalfi Coast

Italy’s Amalfi coastal area, would I have loved to have been with the photographer who took this picture at that given moment. Italy for me is a far off country that I know very little of.  A client went there on a biking tour came back with wonderful stories of the charm and many delights she encountered while touring there. At the time her pictures and recounting of the many little adventures they had enjoyed caught my fancy and I thought of ways my husband and I could get over there to hike or walk the hills and valleys.  Hmmm nice dream.  With time that thought and desire faded, and in its place some other “idea” took my fancy.

Italy,VeniceVenice, Italy, how weathered and worn these steps are how many people have taken these steps to go about their daily lives, if you live in this area, do you still hear the water lapping  up on the steps, are has it just become white noise.  For me, my imagination has me wondering what it must be like to walk down the stairs, sunshine and clear skies beckoning, to  get on a water vehicle of sorts then  glide off around the corner of the wall to explore and take in a world that will be brand new to me.  LOL that is  of course on a larger scale, the reality is I do this everyday, when I wake the world around me has kept on evolving, so each and every day, without fail, is a brand new day.  Each and every day without fail, I can walk outside, get in my car, or walk, bike, to discover brand new delights, make new friends, the possibilities are endless.

I live minutes from Canada’s historical parliament buildings, where tourists come for world wide to enjoy every year.  Here we have the changing of the guards daily during the summer where the sound of the pipes and the marching soldiers never fail to draw a crowd.  Then there is the famous Byward market where people from all walks of life gather to be part of “the scene”.. I can walk/skate the Rideau Canal, the  bike trail along  the Rideau River is within minutes of leaving my home, this is where you’ll find the Queens swans in the summer months.   If I go in another direction I’m on the banks of the Ottawa River and a parkway that leads to more parks and to the stables of the RCMP horses (Royal Canadian Mounted Police).  I happen to live in a major city, but I know that everyone has their own wonderlands to discover right close to home.  In the city our idea of a “Sunday drive” is to drive out to the country, to capture the tranquility of a lake or parts of the rivers that are not surrounded by built up urban living.

Italy,Senigallia

Today my thoughts drifted to Italy, it was nice to journey through the various moments that were provided by the artists that use a camera for their expressions and art.  This last picture is of Senigallie, Italy.  Each photographer saw a part of Italy and captured it in frame, so that to the viewer, it gave a glimpse of where they were at that moment in time.  Too bad we can’t do that with the different hardships we live through.  Unfortunately they are usually scars in our emotional scrapbooks.  However like these pictures, our heartfelt scars that we so painfully earned from whatever experience or challenge we dealt with, are beautiful in their own way, like the mist in the above pictures.  Each one makes us unique.  When we walk with God/TAO, each lesson we learn along the way, gives us genuine inner strength to begin each day knowing we are the masters of our own destiny. Living and Life, are part of the  journey, getting there, being present for every moment of your waking hours, that is a gift.  Share your gifts, the bounty returned will be a hundredfold.
