Barred owl

It was very humbling yesterday to realize that the owl was comfortable with my presence at the base of his tree. The chickadees were singing and going back and forth between us. It was really unreal, I was totally mesmerized by it all. He watched me walk away to give the jays their peanuts… the doves, and woodpeckers were happy to get on with breakfast…. He just watched us and seemed content to be part of the morning activities. It ended when a couple of birdwatchers drove up and we got into human conversation. He spread his wings and took off. He was magnificent.

This was was my third encounter with him. Every meeting has been one that seems contrived. Fanciful thinking on my part, maybe… but the encounters are treasured! When he spread his wings he was so majestic.

Wednesday

Sometimes… we just want to ignore the world around us. Why not? Were you told when you were younger that sleeping all the time wasn’t good for you.. “the early bird, catches the worm” or to stop being so lazy!

Rediscover your “inner calm” your “quiet”. Quincy is very good at showing me “how” to reclaim my inner quiet. We forget, we plan, schedule, make arrangements to do this, that, and something else, sleep is something that our “body” needs. Our minds travel at speeds unknown to man… there is a constant chatter and bombardment of “sound(s)” .

Turn it off. All of it! Can you do it?

There was an owl sighting recently, a quiet country road became a parking lot. The poor creature was stalked, hawked at, and surrounded by the chatter and movement of humans all clamoring for a look.

Imagine your tired after a long day, you’ve had to soar the skies looking for your next meal. finally come the end of your day, you find a quiet place to rest your weary wings….. and what happens, you find you have a camera in your face, not one, dozens, flash bulbs going off, excited chatter .. car sounds, human sounds, they just won’t leave you alone, you fly off to another tree hoping for some quiet… awwww. your head falls, your eyes close, there is a gentle wind… AND … oh no.. they have found you again, is there no peace and quiet, what have you done to deserve this.

The owls plight is yours. your mind is kept so busy all the time, when suddenly your body and inner self want to rest…. the onlookers the curious, the unwanted intrusions keep happening. Time to evaluate just how much of the “outside” you let in. Time to put your SELF first. Has your creativity become repetitive, do you need a “break”. You are the master/mistress of your destiny…. There are ways to reconnect with YOU.

First you have to decide, enough is enough, and YOU and only YOU can make the changes needed to find your way back to “home”… Home=contentment… home is not a physical structure, home is where your “heart” is.

Follow Quincy’s lead… slow down, be gentle with yourself and others, and take a lot of mini naps, (quiet moments)

meaning

While walking the grounds at parc Omega, we came across this bench. I didn’t have time to meditate on it too much at the time, so I grabbed a photo. Looking at the photo I wonder why I took it at such an angle when perhaps doing it another way would have been “prettier”.. ie. no picnic bench or tent in the background.

It is the bench I wanted .. why because of the detail and the craftsmanship. There were many carvings, for sure I will return to see them all again. I wondered how many artists had been employed, I know what a connection I get to a piece when working with wood. I an NOT good at it, but I love handling and getting to know the piece that I am working on. Over the years, I have realized that I prefer instant gratification .. i.e. I work with acrylics and not oils. The medium suits my temperament and style of expression.

Wood has a rhythm of dance that requires a different focus and attention. My tools are still waiting, some within reach, and always somewhere is apiece of wood… patiently waiting.

Things that happen to us all have meaning. Everything that happens to us, happens for a reason. Each and every occurrence is a chance for you to improve yourself.

Remember this piece, I found it while walking that day. I badly wanted to bring it home, my friends, encouraged me to leave it in its resting place. I did, I knew that it was my passion for collecting that was”itching”.. but a captured memory,, will make do. The little woodland charmer, will be there for someone else to enjoy.

We all see the world through our personal lenses, whatever you discover, and decide to do.. make it worthwhile. Everything in life has meaning!
