off road in a jeep

DSC00314

There is always the first time for something. Today was my first time to experience, off roading in a jeep.  This is the jeep that I was travelling in, and at this stage of the ride, it was not longer pristine clean.  Off roading is something that I have wanted to do for a very long time, the opportunity simply had never presented itself before. Darling sweet Brig, (owner of the jeep) asked if we would go along for the opening of the season ride.  What a beautiful day it was.

DSC00278

The whole experience of meeting up with folks who were set and ready to get out and ride, was awesome.  Everyone gathered in an agreed to rendez vos, for a set time, and from there we left heading out of the city to the next pick up point.  The convoy had to be about 40 vehicles long.  You can see the weather cooperated, it was a gorgeous day.

DSC00295

There is something to be said about fresh air, and the strong desire  to conquer a challenge.  Everyone worked together, and everyone, cheered and supported the drivers who took the harder challenges.  The obstacles were there, if you wanted to try them, there were spotters and experienced drivers to  coach you through, if you preferred the less arduous route, that was OK too.

DSC00330

There was no easy road, it was all an assortment of  ” fun”  “bush terrain, with rocks, boulders, mud, and lets not forget the mud ponds with their hidden “treasures” .  It was just a matter of deciding if you wanted the rock and roll, the muddy waters, or the roller coaster rock and mud slide.

DSC00317

Our hostess was magnificent, she went up a 45 degree. incline of rock face like it was a piece of cake, honestly I was so proud of her .. she did it on her first try. We saw others having to make several stabs at it.  There were moments where I found myself holding my breath, the action was so intense.

DSC00298

Here is a jeep preparing to crawl up one of the rocks.  I got to scamper over the rocks up the trails, around the mud, over fallen tree stumps, and of course the personal challenge of finding “private” space  (when needed)  At least we were out on a day, without the horse flies, mosquitoes, and ticks.  We had a GRAND day.

DSC00284

I stepped outside my comfort zone, I explored the backwoods of a countryside I had not been in before. Met some very nice people, took part in a convoy, (that was very well run.)  the leader, the spotters, everyone, were so totally focused on enjoying the moment, it was a positive, energizing day.

Who knew… a road is what you want it to be.

Today we saw first hand

When you want to be somewhere

or get to a destination

no matter the challenges

when you listen with an open mind

to the encouragement of friends

and believe in your ability to do something

the rewards are satisfying

Earth Day!

DSC00253

Hello………….celebrate Earth Day

do we not do this every day ?

there obviously is a need to make everyone aware

that we need to appreciate and take care

of the world that we live in

DSC00248

it worked for me today

a reminder is always a positive reinforcement

we often forget when we simply go about our day

not always taking care of how we throw our waste away

please, let us all concentrate

more on saving the planet

not just today

but always

Buenos dias,me encanta esto

Good morning everyone!!!!  I love it here….  I love Canada and the four seasons, it is a photographer/writer’s dream.  Something new everyday, today the buds are breaking through the bark, little heads are peaking through.  Excitement is in the air.

yesyes

I don’t think there would have been room for a go-cart in the parking lot at the golf course I passed yesterday.  The driving range was the same.  Of course, now is also the time that everyone wants to throw open the doors, and get at the spring cleaning,

thumb_COLOURBOX10010681

The enthusiasm is there, maybe not the same glee,  but the passion and desire to get at it, and have it done is there.  This desire to be out in the sunshine and spring showers seems to be everywhere,

There is no great mystery about life, it simply is an every changing world, that like the nature that we are part of, we all have seasons of our own.  Learning to embrace change and to allow our creativity to flow (adapting to changes and challenges), is one of the best skills we can have and hone.

Say YES today, be happy whatever you set your mind to doing.  No matter the weather, it doesnt’ matter if it rains or shines, whether you are happy or not … is determined by YOUR state of mind.

You own the day.

Charm of days gone by

charm and character of Sharon springs

This was taken in New York State, a few summers ago.  It was a sunny day, and I was out exploring,  in fact, this was my first time to this part of the State, I had read an article on an abandoned health resort, it was so intriguing I wanted to see it for myself.  I blogged about that trip the year I went.  This is one of the pictures that in that file.

Timing in life, is so important,  PL Precept #19  Begin Once you perceive and   PL Precept # 17   Grasp What is Most Essential

Had I not been in the States on that day, enjoying the sights, and wandering down a side street I would never have been able to capture that picture.  The home was bathed in sunlight and shade, the breeze was just right, lifting the flag for almost picture perfect memory.  Whenever I see this picture I’m reminded of that trip, and I want to explore  more of the small towns in  that area.

Rev. Eisuke and I were talking yesterday of how it is so easy to “perceive” something, yet not take action… for whatever reason, we don’t follow through, guess what “something” doesn’t get done.  Or we miss something that was essential in the grand scheme of things.  We didn’t look at or take into consideration the full picture.

In the teachings of PL, we try to encourage and show why following the Precepts as best we can, is so important to our own quality of life and the happiness of not only ourselves but those around us.

Make someone happy today,  SMILE  share the  LOVE  include it in your day, it will radiate in your smile.

history, today

DSC00069

I’ve always been drawn to this building.  The many times I have driven by, I want to stop and explore, yesterday was my chance, the season hasn’t started yet, so the parking lot was free of cars, and I had plenty of time to wander.  The day was overcast, but to me, it made the whole place more attractive and compelling.

DSC00068

The Orleans Fruit Farm has an important link to the history in Ottawa of the francophone community.  It was purchased in 1917 by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate the founders of one of the big Universities here (University of Ottawa)  When it was purchased, they renamed it Ferme Saint-Joseph.

DSC00066

The root cellar was built in 1937 using stones recovered from the dairy barn that had been destroyed by fire.  In the 1940’s  the cultivated 325 Acres of land to provide food for their community, namely the U of O, Seminaire Saint Paul, l’ecole secondaire Saint jospeh and the Juniorat Sacre Coeur, in 1942 they had 90 Holstein dairy cows, 400 pigs and over 1000 chickens and by 1945 they had 750 productive fruit trees.

DSC00071

It is now owned by the National Capital Commission (NCC) it was purchased in 1968 and is now part of the National Capital Greenbelt.  It is an operating farm, rented by a couple who have focused their business on apple production .. but also produce other fruits and veggies.  It is an agriculture site that is well worth a visit.  Once the season starts up   where produce is available.. or plants from their greenhouses, the parking lot is full, and continues that way till the retail season ends,

With produces and meats that are always being examined and questioned, re. chemicals, hormones, fertilizers, pesticides used etc. a farm like this is even more attractive to those of us who watch what we eat, where it comes from is important, were animals free to roam, grass-fed??/????   A fresh carrot that is not perfect to look at, is just as good and nutritious as one that has been sized and shaped to perfection.   Apples without layers of wax…

History does a place in the present, when it can teach us, or remind us of what is really important in life, and essential.
