Crazy strange garden “art”

happy notOK I have no idea, what I was thinking of when I did this, but it happened.  Years later, I still don’t know what it was that drew me to put this “idea” together.  Knowing I did it, always gave me pause.  I thought to simply throw it out, yet it sat in the back garden for some time, a reminder that not everything I do, or come up with is “picture perfect”

hand of the past_edited-1At the time, I really liked the idea.  The glove, the hand,  I’m not sure, but it still might be out back too.  We are cleaning up back there, it is time for a change.  I know if they are there, it will be time to “let them go”

peekingI remember putting this “character” into the old wood bird house, so he would be out of the elements.  It is all overgrown now, but I saw through the branches  that he is still there.  It would require cutting away half of the evergreen now to get him out… so… he’ll get to stay. Actually maybe it was a she..

who comesThe garden guardians have come and gone, they tended and hosted the wildlife that used our land to travel safely through the urban sprawl.  There is beauty in all that nature provides, and there is an unseen world around us that some of us see, and other’s don’t. Never-the-less, the world of imagination and fantasy never fails to capture our attention, when we listen to the wind whisper softly through the trees, or hear it howl when it is voicing discontent. This week we’ve heard the heavens  bowling in celebration of a summer’s eve.  the bowling balls landing with loud thunder as they rolled across the skies.

garden past

Even the wooden sprite is peeking out from his curtain of ivy… (this was he, before this summer’s growth)  The heavy rains clear the spider webs from his face, and wash the ants away… He’s happy too.

Hmmm when I review our motley crew of garden elves and faeries… they have done such a wonderful job of keeping our land lush, green and safe from urban predators, maybe, yes maybe… I need to be selective and rethink the changes in the garden,  I need to remember why they are there.  It is not their looks that count, it is their reason for being!

the tree that was

Q sculptureWhen we first moved to where we live now .. I had a blank canvas to work with (landscape).  I enjoy a white birch, so I planted a young 5 footer  in a corner of our property… Every year i watched it grow and blossom into a beautiful graceful shade giving tree.  Have you ever heard how a breeze can create the sweetest of sounds as it dances its way through the branches and leaves?  It is the softest of whispers.

birch, waterclolor -The first snowfall by aud Rye

This is a water color done by the artist, Aud Rye called “The first Snowfall” (chrisbeckstudio.blogspot.com)

Artist love to paint, sculpt, photograph, landscape with it, it is a tree that has its own flair, and character.

Used in a garden or landscaped setting, the birch provides a contrast to the vivid color of the flowers, and/ or the many shades of green that are planted around it.

Even in the winter its sculpted beauty is a welcome sight,

We lost our birch to some kind of disease, for whatever reason, it just started fade, the leaves fell away, till eventually even the branches began to show their desire to move on, I was told nothing could be done. I had watched that tree grow from a young sapling to a princess, but one does have to let go and let nature do what it must.  So… I cut it down so that only the stems remained and using sculpting materials, I used it as a base for the outdoor garden structure you see  in the first photo.

For several more years .. it had a place of honor in the garden.. while its core disintegrated .. the weather meanwhile kept changing the face of the sculpture… with each passing season,I saw how the changing temperatures and many rain and snow storms took its toll.

Now in the garden we still have an arm of the tree here and there placed in different corners of the garden so that when I come across them I’m reminded of what was.  To visitors they are whimsical pieces, faces emerging from the greenery, to me, they are part of all that I am.

Some of my pieces are posted on Pinterest, those that I still have, and some that of course I no longer have because they were sold or adopted,…. but always over the years, i get word, or a reminder, of another time and place in my life.  Like today, when I got a notice that  the above picture of my expression had been repinned twice. and liked.

When we do something, say something, we don’t always get immediate feedback, but know … please believe me… each and every thing we do… has a consequence.  The timing may not be what you want or expect, but nature travels, works in its own way, Nature is always in motions, Nature/God is always with us.. we need only be aware and listen.

Enjoy each moment of your day, cherish the experience the adventure of life.  Embrace your creativity.  Life is Art.

A whole new day yawns before us,

give unconditional  love, allow your SELF to  feel

make your choices, then let go, and let your heart rejoice

As yourself each day, what remains unexpressed within me ?

In the teachings of the TAO we say…” that all that is good and unique in your should be brought out. Never hold back.  The good in you is like water in a well… the more you draw from it, the more fresh water will seep into the well.  If you don’t draw from the well, that water that is there will go stagnant.” (365 Tao)

The colours of spring

9360114a654471448445137c7a20c93aToday  without the sun shining brightly through my office window, I went in search of a picture of flowers.  When I chanced on this picture of the Keukenhof Gardens in the Netherlands, it was a BINGO the moment I saw it.(  a WOW moment).  The riot of colour is laid out in such a symmetrical pattern. The synergy holds one eye.  The attention to detail, the planning that had to be executed to give these results, mind-blowing to someone like myself an abstract artist and a lover of the natural landscape.   The picture held me in utter fascination.  Art comes in many forms, this picture gave me an appreciation of the work /labour that had to take place for me to be able to behold and enjoy such man-made beauty, using nature’s provisions.

Today’s PL lesson is about how our smile/expression can make everyone around us happy.  It makes sense, if we do everything with a smile, we feel good, but we also spread that happiness to those around us.  I’m smiling now and I share it with all of you.. Be Happy!   A smile is contagious! Oyashikiri

Good Monday Morning Everyone

Feb.2._001

There is a great sense of joy when we are able to express our true selves.   Our environment and the things that happen all around us, are all materials for self expression.  In PL we are taught that with God’s blessing, we will be able to freely express ourselves using these materials.  When  I found this little church tucked away between   a wooded area and the sea, the artist’s build brought a genuine smile and joy to me.  If you are virtual traveler this is the link to ! The Sanctuary ” Our Lady Lourdes of Lourdes”,   the url is  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Excellens/189/209/67

Valentine 2.3.14_010

Always  focus on your true feelings and express yourself honestly.  It was in following where my footsteps led that I found this little sanctuary

By leading  a cheerful, joyful and beautiful life, you will learn to work for the happiness of orders as well as yourself.    PL Precept #21   LIFE IS ART

Standing Still

Standing Still

Frozen in Time – sculpted out of wire, apoxie sculpt and fabric this garden fairy likes her crystals, she carries them with her so that the sun and day light will catch and reflect prisms of colour all around her. The stump she stands on was part of a tree she used to love for the shade it provided on the hot summer days. She came inside one year, to grace the mantel, to this day she is still there. There is a window there, and during the bright winter days, when the sun comes shining through … her garland dances sending a rainbow of colour through the room.

Do we stand still in life, or do we constantly want to be on the move? Lately I’ve been forced to spend more time.. standing still… LOL or should I say, having a lie down =^_^=

Like the garden fairy with her crystals, when the dust gathers on her beads, the rainbow of colours is less dazzling. When she was outside, Mother Nature, bathed her in spring, summer and fall with showers, pelting rains and blew soft whispers of breeze through her strand of crystals.

When we stop and allow the world around us to “really be seen” It is surprising what we “see” and realize about where we are in life, and how we are coping with the realities.

Have the courage to really look at where you are, have you been standing still? Is dust gathering on “your crystals”

Prayer is our garland of light, the Universe speaks to us everyday, and in many ways. It is in mindfulness that we
hear and see the Divine connection.

Blessings everyone, may the light of life shine brightly on you today.and always.

Internal Clock

Internal Clock

Meet the Tin Man, he is one of the garden personalities that hang round to talk and chat with visitors to our “outdoor living space” He has been around for years, if you are willing to listen, he will regale you of many of his life changing experiences.

My personal internal clock tells me it is time for Mr. Tin Man and his other seasonal friends to come in for awhile. Days are getting shorter, nights longer, Taste buds are asking for more “warm comforting, nesting” nourishment. I don’t crave the rich energizing broth of ox tail soup till my body starts to feel the daytime chill in the air.
Then it is time for a visit to the market for freshly pulled carrots,I love the new darker ones that when you slice them open there is a bright orange center to them. YUM, the sharpness of the northern home grown garlic, the many varieties of onions, and of course the multitude of different squashes are now ripe for the taking.
The roasting pan has been getting used, I’ve had it out several times this week. Where the last many months, we’ve seldom had meaty meals, I’ve now added small pieces of either pork, chicken ( dark meat), or beef not only for the flavour but for the nutrition they offer.
Yes dear reader, the internal clock has kicked in, nesting is occurring.
I’m wanting the smell of baked bread, home made soup simmering on the stove, and my constant glass of water, has gone from iced, to hot from the tap.
Sandals are being put away, the winter footwear is being examined (no I didn’t do it when spring arrived, I was too busy and excited about the baby buds, and beckoning skies) There are two more bags of clothing/shoes etc. to be recycled. Ever notice that what you liked and felt good in last fall, just doesn’t cut it this year. =^_^= LOL its all part of that darn “internal clock”
The shift in colours and materials being used for my artist expressions have also changed. The changes don’t happen overnight, they just happen. When you realize that your “internal clock” has been activated and acted on.. then you “know” you’ve entered the “new” season.

Our “Internal clock” and “inner voice” work together as ONE to GUIDE us on a DAILY basis, often we simply don’t hear or get the total drift of what is being said until we are well into the “new phase” of or life

In the rearranging, storing and sorting, I have rediscovered another “teacher”…  delighted to have reconnected, I will be bringing “Woody” in to church to meet you, one Sunday in November.  Woody is looking forward to sharing with you.

photo 1 (3)

Once you are in sync with your “internal clock” and you make up your mind and accept that it’s a new season… be enthusiastic, jump on board “with the program”, after all, veux, veux pas,  (want or not want), soon it will be winter.  Have your winter coat ready, your woolies (if you wear them) make sure your boots will keep you dry and warm………………………….and SMILE…

Embrace winter, you can’t change it, and it has a lot to offer.  Stay tuned.

Toasty warm Blessings, now and always.
