S o S

Good Morning … how are you today? Please I would like you to take a moment … sit back and listen.. Can you hear silence? Do you recall the ” Sound of Silence.” When did you last hear “silence”?

Let me explain, the other night, the dog barked to go out, it was something like 2 a.m the house was dark, I didn’t even think to turn on a light I made my way to the back door, opened it and let them out. Velcro is very good and letting me know he needs out… Keeper being the smart whippet she is, knew to take advantage of the situation and join him in his outing. I let them back in, I still have not turned on any lights, we are moving around with the light from the back veranda and the moonlight.

I tripped and fell, I heard the dog dish clatter and the sound of my head hitting the wooden banister and the wooden gate we had installed to keep the dogs out of the kitchen when we needed them out of the way. After that I am aware of lying there taking inventory of my body, my situation. I knew not to move until I was sure nothing was broken etc. (if you are new to this blog, I am what is known as a mature individual, I can get senior discounts at some stores =^_^=)

Obviously I did get up, and I went back to bed, pulled up the blankets, snuggled down and went back to sleep. That was a couple of days ago. I woke the next day, a tad sore, but went about my daily routine and “business”…BUT of course the body was not simply going to snap back into “all is well”….so for the last 24 hours or so, I have been doing a lot of sitting, lying down, and when I can sleeping.

I lay there this morning realizing that I am surrounded by a constant “hum” “noise” whether the ceiling fan, the air purifier, the central air, outside noises, AND my own AI (artificial intelligence) “stuff”… iPad, cellphone, television, desk top…refrigerator, also known as “white noise”

When you are lying on your back just doing nothing (or trying to) it is amazing the “stuff” that runs through your gray matter. I also had read a fellow bloggers post on the summers in NY city back when there was no such thing as air conditioners, fans, and the like. People had to try to find somewhere, or place they could sleep the heat was so oppressive. You can see, being quiet, having to be still… was having an affect on me. I began to think back… and of course all the while I am aware of the whirling of the ceiling fan, the constant whirring of the air purifier, etc etc…

My audio from the iPad was droning on about the need for us to find silence in our lives (Alan Watts, philosopher).. darn… I thought.. I must be feeling better, I’m awake and hearing all this noise.. for the last while I hadn’t cared. my body was bruised and just wanted to heal. Now, this must be I’m feeling better..

I got up and turned off the air purifier.. and the fan on my bureau.. NO I didn’ t turn off the ceiling fan.. Daft I’m not.. nor is my brain fried… but I did hear the difference and it got me thinking.

So here I am.. asking you for your input, should you wish to join me in this exercise. Do we have access to quiet, real quiet…? What is quiet to you?

Today’s calendar…

Others are others … I am I … If you force your values on others, it can be self-righteous. don’t be overeater and have a sense of “Others are others, I am I”

Aging is a challenge, for sure. I do worry about you living alone and going out early to the refuges on your own. Perhaps you might look into something like a ‘Medical Guardian On-The-Go Wearable Alarm?’ There is a monthly fee, but it might be worth it should you really hurt yourself. 😟
True silence is hard to come by these days. Daily traffic, neighbors and all the appliances– AC, fans, fridge, freezer and air cleaner, all add white noise. At three in the morning, however, it can be quiet here with no traffic (or streetlights). I love that time of day if I am awake. There is natural noise from our waterfall and river, which can be soothing, but is noisy with all this rain we’ve had lately.

Thank you my dear… I have been doing alot of sleeping which tells me nature is looking after me.. I lie down and sleep comes easily. It seems lately have had to come to terms with my aging self.. that is for sure I am blessed to have you sharing in my life… I truly appreciate you.

I don’t mind the sounds of Nature, which is quite marvelous during my early morning walk. (I have a walking-buddy, in case of “sidewalk trolls” that try to trip me up.) 🤣

I’m so sorry to hear that you fell. Those injuries often sneak up on us after the initial shock and adrenaline wear off. I hope you are feeling better. As to your question, I think the only time we experience real quiet is during a power failure (although, as a friend would point out, it’s not really a loss of power). Lot’s of noise around here, and unfortunately, some is in my head and never goes away. The result of two brushes with sudden hearing loss. Recovered, but with lingering effects.

Take good care, and I hope you’re feeling better soon.

Good dogs. Sorry to hear about the tumble and the pains. It does take longer to recover these days, yes. No matter that we are in “the boonies” noise is a constant. When we are very lucky and the pump jack across the valley is not sputtering, it can be that all we hear is the river rushing by. Then the dog snores.
