Why not,  some of these funnies have been going around for years, when I got a package of them this morning, I thought why not share.  The talented cartoonists and illustrators  captured in one “picture” what might take pages to say otherwise..

When I was younger (much  younger and starting to work full-time) I remember having similar thoughts, about being old enough to make my own decisions, and someone, usually my Mother, trying to reason with me on various matters.  It is only when I got much older did I realize how right she had been.  I didn’t think so at the time though.  When we are young we think that the experiences we have and the challenges we face are soooooooo unique..  in reality, we all fall in love, we are all at some time left feeling lost and lonely, and we all have a tendency to forget that each and every other person in our lives has known the same pangs of emotions we have.

train222_2008_03031801

This next one… the moment I saw it, several people came to mind that I love dearly, but immediately their faces sprang up when I “reacted” to this illustration .. No two people are alike, and it is not always about a person’s mannerisms, looks or method of conversation that keep us friends, it is their  loyalty, sincere friendship,  & the willingness to accept us as we are.

A relationship worth having is one that experiences the highs and lows of life in a way that respects the differences and accepts the adventure of life in a way that is compatible with yours.

Snow and tranquility

snow day 5

The snow was beautiful today, it was light, fluffy and brought with it a warmer weather that made it a delight to walk from the mall to the car. When I got to the car U wasn’t so enthralled,  In the short time I had been in the mall, the car was covered in a blanket of snow that obscured all the details, leaving just the outline of the Rav.  The windows were in need of a good brushing, I’d also have to clear off the roof or the snow would fall and impede my view while driving.  Guess where my gloves were?

snowday 4

Noooo  you really  don’t want to know what crossed my mind when I realized I’d have to move snow from the doors and windows prior to opening the door with my sleeve. =^_^= … the little crystals of snow, were dainty and fluffy, they were floating around like little feathers.  I couldn’t help but appreciate their charm.  That didn’t stop me from realizing that they would all dive into the car as soon as I opened the door.   So be it.  After all my gloves would be inside, then I could start the car, and come back out and clear the car, AND if I was lucky the brush with the long handle would be handy. … … …. It wasn’t.

snow day 6

The drive home was slow….. like turtles all in a row we crawled.   Big trucks were turning and sliding around corners a seasoned winter driver, I knew to leave a car length between my car and the one in front,, more if I could. Those who didn’t chanced kissing bumpers.  More than once I had to double brake to deal with the mush and greasy road surface.  My adventure, its times like this that I talk to the Universe and count my blessings.

Snowday 3

Life is to be enjoyed, and no matter what, I do my best to find the happy in whatever it is I’m living.  Even if it  is to walk into my “upset” room for a moment to vent, once I’ve done it, I can walk back out, close the door and move on.  Expression is a gift, try to be as creative as you can, if you hold back the negative moment will fester, if you acknowledge it, and give it is due, the moment passes.   Trust me, in life there is always balance, you can’t have “one”  with out the other..

lace and life

lace

Once upon a time, I thought I would like to try my hand at doing something different.  I had seen some beautiful pieces at an antique show and wondered how it was done. Having a creative streak that just won’t quit, I began to ask around and was surprised that in my circle of friends, no one tatted or knew of anyone who did. For lace, it was also an unknown art to my immediate creative buddies.  We were one of a kind doll makers, we sculpted, sewed and worked with totally different media.

lace tatting 1940

This is a picture of a cover from a tatting book from the 1940’s. In my treasure hunting expeditions, I had seen such a tool and had not known what it was and no one around could educate me either.  Now of course with access to google search and other such vehicles, information is more at hand.  Tatting is a dying art form, it requires a ton of patience, and a love for working with very fine material and following a pattern.

lace and tatting

When I reflect back on what I could have done, and what I in the end, have done….  well …. the methods of applying my gray matter, processing information, working with chicken wire, wire, precious and semi precious metals, sculpting materials like Apoxie Sculpt. or the liquid polymers like Paverpol  and Powertex, all gave me creative ways to express my ideas, feelings and thoughts in a visual way.

needle felted by Q

This is a needle felted dancer that i did during my love affair with sheep, fleece and roving.  I like form, movement, and a sense of whimsy, I want abstract so that the viewer can find their own connection to my work.

Q paverpol victorian

Here a Victorian “mystery” woman walks away, or if she is in your garden, and you are walking towards her, =^_^= you’ll meet her in a different way. This was done with wire, and fabric so that it could withstand Canadian climate, she does come in during the winter months..

Q crochet hat

Crocheting  a hat so I could display felted flowers was the closest I got to lace and tatting.  We all express ourselves differently, what is important is that we do so in a way that will please us, and in so doing bring a smile to others.  For all of us who love to express ourselves, visually, vocally, (the written word is to me a visual expression) we are given the skills, and the tools, it is up to us to  create our own works of art.

When we do whatever it is we are attempting to do, with our full makoto (sincerity) and focus, our results are usually more positive and appealing to us and others.  Right… not everyone will like what you say or do, however, if you have spoken or applied love  and kindness into your actions, you have done your best.  That is really all you can do.

My father in law is as I write this,  is in his final days  here on earth.  He has lived a long and productive life (99) a man who till very recently was totally focused on what he needed and wanted.  He gave love, laughter and life to family and friends, now in the quiet of this journey, I visually see his life, like a piece of lace, beautiful in the making, and his memory will be a reflection of the time, patience and effort he put in to his personal pattern that no one else can replicate.

We create art…  however we ourselves …. are works of art….. life is art………….

like a seed

abandoned castle #1 by nikonento on flickr

like a fertile seed

I blew  in one day

and found a place to lie

I remember sunny days

and others, where I only wanted to hide

days bleak and overcast

pounding pellets of rain forced me underground

with time I accepted the darkness

it felt nurturing

I felt protected

plants in the sun

as time went by I noticed that on sunny days

I began to sprout and reach towards the warmth

even the rain became my friend

after a long period of drought

I sighed with ecstacy when the crystal drops

bathed and fed me

plants on roof

I had been lost, alone in the world

my days and nights were spent alone

yet even  through times of darkness

I never lost faith, I waited

knowing when it was time, I would know why,

why, I had the capacity to know my thoughts

to feel the various ” states of being “

I experienced with the unfolding of my life’s story

rose and thorns

while at times I may look  dormant

there are other times I am alive with colour

my thorns can be a challenge,

but I really am worth knowing

I am a seed in this Universe of ours

that thrives with your unconditional love

I took root, I believed and I blossomed

now, I accept the various seasons

you gave me life to experience

and every year, I grow stronger

knowing that always you are the sun and rain

you are my all

no more, no less

japan 1

Good morning everyone…

For those of us waking to a world of white snow and high winds, thought we would take to the streets in another climate. The day seems bright enough, but I could see the wind blowing the wind flag and it wasn’t messing around. Although only 14 degrees Fahrenheit, with the wind chill factor it has to be cutting cold out there.  Dress warmly if you are going out, wear a warm scarf, makes all the difference =^_^=.  (-15 Celsius?)

841edd1d7c1066e844ed4856a6e1a0a2

I found this picture of a Japanese carving the other day.  At one time I was very interested in and had started a collection of “Netsuke”.  A Netuske is a small miniature carving, many of which date back to a different period in time. This Japanese monkey is from the Mejii Period (1868 – 1912), look at the detail, the monkey is looking through a magnifying glass, to view an insect on a persimmon.  The carving is 1.5 inches.

There had to be no compromise nor hesitation of the artists hands while he/she worked.  I can only imagine the concentration and focus that went into this wonderful work of art.  Our lives are works of art, how often are you called upon to compromise, or when dealing with another, you find yourself hesitating because you simply are not on the same page and paragraph of the person you are interacting with.

Japan, 2

When we find ourselves rethinking, or pausing in our actions, then it is time to take a break and think about what is meaningful to us.  What is important to us, if we compromise, or not speak up on what we really feel, matters will only become more complicated…………. Always be true to yourself!…………….

discovering

art by Jeremiah Morelli, aka jerry8448

Finding our way in life is always an adventure.  Sometimes it is a mystery and we find ourselves asking the mirror “why? how? what happened?”  Some paths we traveled on have been smooth and well-worn, others if there ever was a road, it had long been reclaimed by nature, and you had to tread carefully and watch for openings in the growth around you to make your way through to find a clearing.  You needed to focus and be present.

art, conceptart and situations, by alexandre chaudret

Today with virtual worlds, gaming and concept art forms, we are taken into wonderful imaginary worlds without leaving the comfort of home.  Still, always, one should be present and aware of all that is happening around us.

If an explorer starts out with preconceived notions and ideas about what lies ahead  he/she will not be open to the wonders that are there to be discovered all along the way.  If you find yourself on a road you’ve not been on before, take it all in,  This is where you are, so enjoy it, discover what there is to learn from the moment and then move on. Every day is a blank canvas

chicken chop suey

chicken chop suey

Yummy, who remembers when going to a Chinese restaurant meant someone was going to order Chicken Chop Suey,  The other dish that was always ordered by friends was  Chicken Gai Ding, below is Kung Pao Gai Ding, (chicken with peanuts)

Chicken kung pao gai ding

And of course I must not forget the sweet and sour chicken balls.  I never understood where these dishes came from, we never ate such dishes at home.  It wasn’t till I was much older, living away from home and in another part of the world, that I learned how creative Chinese cooks were.  They used ingredients known to locals to create similar dishes to ones eaten at home, but yet totally unlike what we ate, because back then, the ingredients required to cook dishes that were traditionally eaten, would  have been 1 – foreign to the western taste buds, and probably, #2  – ingredients were just not readily available. It is not like today, when you can find Asian necessities in almost any and all major shopping areas.

Chicken balls sweet and sour

Even today, it is not unusual to have to have two menus.  One for the customer who likes the western version of Chinese/Asian cooking, and one for the families who prefer more traditional style dishes.  I have noted though, that the palate and the desire to experience a more traditional dish is /or has become more in vogue.  The pungent and tantalizing aromas that I delight in when I walk into an Asian supermarket, do nothing for my husband, that is what makes people so unique, is that we each and every one of us, has our own reactions to the ambient sounds, smells and visions around us.

Chop Suey is a culinary example of putting food types together to create create a harmonious taste, that will give the eater a pleasant reaction to the blended spices and veggies/meat.  Each culture has their own way of cooking a vegetable or meat so that it reflects their artistry.

We all eat.  Those of us who cook, love the magic that takes place when we stir fry, steam, roast, grill, BBQ etc.  Presentation is part of the craft.  But best of all, it is the pleasure we have when we taste and eat what we have created. When guests or family enjoy what is put before them. its a bonus.

Preparing a meal and then sharing it, is a very special “event”  Meals don’t just happen, we have to plan them.  The love we put into pulling together a meal I believe is a an ingredient that is without  measure.  Love is the ingredient that should be in everything we do and say.

Sometimes life gives us chop suey days…… but if we pull them all together in a way that employs a proactive and loving flavour.  It will melt in our mouths.

Good Morning… ahhh what to do today…..

shall we lie by the pool, or would you like to stroll the beach.

Look at the clear blue sky, not a cloud in view.

There is just a bit of a breeze,

can you feel and see it rustling the leaves.

Let us spend the day… me and you

even though we are miles apart

welcoming the day with an open heart.

We will each do our part

to cultivate and nurture family, friends and co-workers

so… that no matter where we are,

the inter-action will inspire and make that moment ours.

A sincere sharing, heart to heart.

Bruce Lee

06a537b4f857af7c2c0749b06c256a75

In my younger years, I remembered Bruce Lee as Kato, the actor who played along side the Green Hornet on a television show that I watched on the black and white telly we had, with the one station.  Being Chinese in Canada in years gone by meant you were a an oddity.  You stood out like a sore thumb and there was no way you could not know that you were “different:  from the other people in the community in which you lived.  My Father was a wise man who taught me to live life with appreciation. To accept and do my best to understand the difference we all have, and how unique each individual is.  By seeing those who taunted and rejected me without really knowing me, as a lesson, teachers of another side of a coin if you will. I learned to dismiss their actions as a part of who they were, and to move on.  These same youngsters were soon my playmates.  We are still in contact today.    I have been blessed with knowing that they feel that in getting to know me  they learned about an other culture and how it was a positive in their lives.

During the early years of my practice, martial arts became the “new fad”  The buzz was to take up a discipline and become another “Bruce Lee”.. It was always an honour for me when  young man/woman would come to my door asking for assistance in his/her developement.  NO I was not teaching a Martial Art technique, I was a teacher of the TAO, and worked with students and clients to help them deal with the daily stress they encountered in navigating their lives.

I soon learned that my childhood hero Kato, was Bruce Lee and that he had a lot of things to say about life.  I also learned that he had a huge following.  His wisdom,  dedication and focus on his craft was legendary.

bc3d9a0df3f80e6d654a0a48848454a8There has been so much written about him and his philosophy on life.  You can find all kinds of information by just typing in his name in a search engine, and reams of info will pop up.  I shared his thoughts with you today because so much of it is the wisdom of the TAO and the philosophy I was weaned on.  Asked the other day, why I am now with the Church of Perfect Liberty, my answer is … because it is the teaching of the TAO … that the church embodies.  I’ve lived long enough to know that the TAO is life itself, and not everyone wants to be a warrior, even though if you think about it, we all are in our own way.  What everyone does want is to find peace of mind. We all treasure those moments in our lives when life is uncomplicated and we feel totally at ONE with the world.

self expression

Your environment and the things that happen to us and around us, are the materials/tools of our self-expression.  In living the PL “way” we  learn that it is with God’s blessings that we are able to freely express ourselves using these materials.

4fead84ae78e442b65208bc3535b2d14By doing our best to live a life that is filled with happiness and good health, we have to begin with the basics in life. We have to believe and trust that our connection to the Universe is a constant force in all we say and do.  We need to strive to maintain, respect and acceptance of the  difference in others,  And, to recognize that hardships are the challenges in life that give us strength and character.

00f2cc7d0ea75c42e25407086cb05c6e

There is only one you, individual, unique and very special.  You are the “artist” who creates the story lines in your “book”  Make them joyful and meaningful.

Live each day to the fullest, never regret what was, celebrate the experience and move on.  The photographer who saw this moment in time, captured it for us, what a beautiful sharing. From the state of mind of being one with God, we learn the path to happiness, how to progress and elevate ourselves to find true freedom in our lives, based on the truth, ” Life is Art”
