Chop Suey Friday – Japan

P1000227

These were the doors that we went through every day.  To classes, lectures, meals, and these are the same doors that we came through for our refuge. Our time out, our time away from “activity.  We were 12 ladies in this room. yet, it is amazing that when in the room, in your own space, if you wanted to  just lie and be quiet, tend to your whatever… you had that space.  Even though many of us were in some way strangers, we co-existed with a sense of harmony that was “extra-ordinary”.  Somehow, we knew when to communicate, exchange and when to simply “be”  That is an “art” in itself.

IMG_1758

Every morning, many woke early to make the journey to this sacred place to pray.  Some would do it several times during the day. When we had the torch ceremony, many marched  there from the residence carrying a torch.  This was a sight to see as darkness fell, and all one could see was the torches walking in unison towards the First Founder’s Tomb (Okutsuki)  Usually I would be in the procession, this year, due to my jet lag  condition, I got there by bus, so for the first time, I saw the flames coming towards us, it was awesome to see.  The feeling of being part of such a devout ceremony was moving.

There are no words that can fully describe the journey I was on.  Yes, my body did not like the jet lag, and had me lying low at times, but the energy and the positive interaction of everyone around me made the experience one I will never forget.  There were times where my thoughts drifted in and out of a tired overworked mind.  I did some of my most brilliant thinking during some of those “out of body” moments, too bad, the memory cells were on vacation.

-My apologies that I can not name all the wonderful people who made this visit so special – You aer all in my thoughts and prayers with much GRATITUDE

oops can’t forget Rev. Eugene who made sure I had all my meals booked.. =^_^= and recruited “sitters” to look out for me.

Japanese bath and…..

P1000234

The sign points the way to the ladies bathing area

this time around, I didn’t get the sliding doors into the area

once inside, we remove our shoes

and put them in the slots allotted for guests

P1000229

On entering into the first room, there are sinks on the left

to the right an area to remove and put  your clothes in a designated shelf box

once you have removed all your clothes

you can enter into the bathing area,

it is again through a pair of sliding doors.

P1000228

the chair you see in the back corner

is a massage chair,

I regret to say, I never had the opportunity to try it

P1000232

on entering there is one north american type stall

next to it is a sauna,

which again, I did not get to use

P1000233

the next picture will show you the most popular way

to shower and remove the day’s “grime”

P1000230

I have found that this is the most comfortable and practical

way to wash.  You do your hair, and rinse off well

before you can get into the bath itself.

Soaps, shampoo and conditioner is provided

Once you are all cleaned and rinsed off,

only then, do you enter the bath.

P1000225

then it is back to the dorm

refreshed and relaxed

ready to roll out your futon

and tuck yourself in

This picture was taken after

some of the participants had gone

we were 12 to a room

what you see is what was in front of me,

from my little “home” while there

P1000235

this little nook, is where we could get hot/cold water

or cold drinks (vending machines)

just outside our room.  Where the two ladies

are looking is into another smaller bathing area

International visitors are welcomed once a year

we came from North American, Brazil, Argentina

Spain, and, and….. the North American participants were from the States

except for moi,  the only Canadian.

P1000236

This delightful woman was like our “den” Mother, she

and her crew, manned the International Office,

took our keys, gave out the keys.. rooms were always

locked when no one was in the room

The staff worked from the wee hours till late into the evening

answering questions, helping with our needs,

ensuring we got to meals on time

We always knew we had them there to look out for us.

Even though the majority of them could not speak English

it is amazing how efficient they were

and how we all managed to communicate

IMG_1761

it is a VERY  long journey from where I live

to Osaka, Japan, and from there to PL headquarters,  about another hour away.

was it worth it

yes, every minute, second of the pilgrimage

was a blessing

my sincere gratitude and love  goes to all

who shared this journey with me

making it an unforgetable experience.

Thursday Doors -Charm

charming door

Nothing says WELCOME more than a door with charm and character.  We pass this darling house every time we visit a town along the St. Lawrence seaway.  This time I couldn’t go by it another time and not capture it to share with you.  This is not a castle door, or a door to a big multi million dollar mansion, this is a door that says, “this is home”

P1000216

Even has the wonderful wide porch that invites a nice long visit, watching the world go by.  We didn’t meet him, but there is a dog with the face of an angel who looked curiously out of the side window at us as we chatted with the owner.  There is a lot to see when you visit the small towns and villages along the seaway.

Thursday doors 7.14.16

WP_20130730_014

Windows and doors.  always fascinate, a glimpse, a peek, sometimes it is the door itself that holds our attention.

WP_20130727_010

There is always a hint of mystery, when I see a door that interest me.  I want to peer inside, better yet, I want to step over the threshold and go inside.

WP_20130802_068

I always knew that behind a door would be something new.  No matter how many times I would push open the door, another “happening” would occur.

WP_20130727_009

I will be exploring new dimensions of time in Japan while I am away.  I hope to have more to share with you on my return.  I may or may not get time to post over the next weeks, so know this.  I am going to miss you, each and every one of you who share my world.

may God keep you safe, happy and healthy

may each new day bring joys for you to enjoy

Till soon, I love YOU

Tuesday, really?

FullSizeRender[3]

Ok really, trains passing, going at a clip,  for one reason or another, I just wasn’t getting what I wanted.  Some times like this morning. I was looking for a picture of “nothing”  You know, emptiness.  But .. all I could find were pictures of this, that and whatever.

DSC00066

OH, how about this empty lot, in the spring, before it became an active fresh veggie stop, no that didn’t work, I’ve used other versions of it before.  These long week-ends are soooo long,  on Friday I was thinking it was Sunday, on Saturday a non holiday, I thought it was Monday, Sunday was Sunday, then Monday, a regular day for us, but a holiday in the States, I was thinking it was Wednesday.

Mog96N6

There is really no such thing as an empty space, nothing, there is always something.  we need only really look, we have all heard the expression, “seek and you shall find”

and here is another one, “perception is reality”

Namaste       –          Oyashikiri

btw. I do know its Tuesday, and I’m off to MontrealsmilePencil

no beaver, not a one

P1000200

there was a lot going on today

the setting up for the big Canada Day celebrations

on parliament hill, were in full swing

P1000201

streets were already being blocked off

hardly a car on streets that are usually very busy

I did look,  I even stood on tippy toes

not a beaver was to be seen

P1000193

it was early when we landed downtown

on Bank street, not far from Gladstone

I couldn’t resist taking a picture

of these great old buildings

those of you who know Ottawa

know that we are just an oldie but goodie

with history and interesting

architecture to create the ambience that is

Ottawa

P1000192

there could have been a beaver

lurking behind one of those windows

but.. somehow I doubt it.

P1000195

a friend was getting her first tattoo

no .. not a beaver

the gal shown here, is the very talented

Sometimes we want to rest

we do our best to make the time

only you find yourself

being watched with expectation

IMG_1689

just to make sure you understand

that your taking a break, is NOT

what you should be doing

I did my best to ignore the pair

however their persistence

was not to be ignored

dog noses are very cold

being stared at is not really

a soothing lullaby

beaver maple leaf_edited-2

all is not lost

I did find two cars for my

“play car” collection =^_^=

I started a card

the beaver has a chewed ear,

I did find two maple leaves

then suffered a kind of writer’s block

so except for hello

that’s it for the day

IMG_1520

my Mother is 95, legally blind  and hard of hearing

yet here she is doing what she does best,

living each day, getting the best out of whatever opportunity

comes her way

In this case she is looking at a smart phone to catch up

on recent pictures.

my sister who is trying to catch a glimpse is now in Iceland

where she will be surrounded by

happy people, celebrating the win today against England (soccer)

IMG_1519

 here .. my addiction…

cold, very cold, ice coffee with a side glass

of ice water..

the perfect mix.

all this to say

life is good everyday

someone sent me a smile today

let me share it with you

saying

take your pick

the caption on this one was… take your pick…
