Friday

Today (actually yesterday now) I drove to Montreal’s West Island and back, did it all in half a day, I find that driving along a highway with nothing but a straight road ahead, and one disappearing in my rear view mirror, relaxing. It was a spur of the moment decision, I had been going to go, changed my mind, realizing I had a full afternoon and evening. But on waking I saw on my calendar that the city was working in the area, and I would have no water … it was being turned off .. 8 – 4 … ugh.

The day being bright, skies clear, I decided to hit the road, the gem/mineral show is on all week-end, but I knew the week-end would be a zoo. I went for many miles with no radio on… I wanted the quiet. The car is my personal space… a place where I can lock myself in and just BE. No distractions unless I want them.

There is something soothing about driving in silence. There were few cars /trucks on the road.. I didn’t question it, I enjoyed it. I took the 417 (super highway) going down, and on the way back, veered off and came by way of Hawksbury. A secondary road that goes through small communities.

My objective was to attend a warehouse sale of earth treasures, crystals, minerals, fossils and one of a kind treasures .. This vendor specializes in high quality specimens, he travels all over the world, his inventory is wonderful to experience.

Specific mindfulness exercise can help you ease your mind and improve your every day.

Wandering down aisles of crystals, minerals from all over the world, unique fossils .. feeling the vibe from “mother earth” was “grounding”

Have a good day everyone!

Today

Once upon a time…. and the princess married the prince and they lived happily ever after… Remember those stories where everything had a happy ending. What was your favourite storyline? Have you heard any of the fiction Ai is generating today…. Elder abuse, fraud, mistresses, dysfunctional families, bullying, Corporate culture that is built on artificial/aggressive competitive greed.

Pick a card, any card… what are your chances. Who do you believe, what is real, and who is really your friend?

On my outing yesterday, I smiled, greeted people in my close proximity, responded cheerfully if I was addressed, nodded if someone looked my way… said “excuse me,” and “”sorry “… if I needed to get by, or move past someone in an aisle.

It was a busy day, but… the brief, short interactions were interesting, and on the most part, people were surprised, but smiled back, Have you tried going out with the intention of connecting in a positive way, with people you meet along the way? Do you speak to strangers?

lundi

Some days, when you least expect it… you find a prize. Yesterday, I left home determined I would get to church for the 10 a.m. ceremony. On the first in PL we always have a special service .. dedicated to World Peace. Its a time were we pray for World Peace and rededicate ourSelves to living in a way that we hope will promote and bring a peaceful existence in our own personal world which includes our homes, work, school etc. And after being homebound for days, (in and out of bed) with the winter cold/flu that has plagued me these past few months…. I just wanted to share time with “like minds” and pray in community.

I didn’t make it. Half way there my body said. Go Home. I turned the car around and drove back home. As I got out of my car (you know a year ago I sold my home and moved into an adult living apartment.) My parking spot is near the elevators and the recycle/waste receptacles. There is limited outdoor parking .. it is a secure building, parking is underground heated air climate controlled parking. As I got out I realized I should empty my little garbage container of the “waste” I’d accumulated… I gathered my kleenex tissues and no longer wanted gas receipts etc. and walked over to the bins. As I turned to go back to my car I saw tucked in the corner where the recycle battery container used to be… a tall bamboo .. leaning forlornly against the wall, decorative container and all. It was tall, much taller than my 5′ 3″….so awkward to handle, but…… I didn’t hesitate… it came home with me. It was a struggle I got it into the elevator and up to my apartment… found a place for it… and…. there she stands

I know its not real, I don’t have to feed it, water it, I will have to dust the leaves from time to time.. but she is mine. I’ve seen them in high end home furnishing stores more as decorative accent pieces to showcase the furniture in the stores… and it is likely meant for bigger palatial spaces, condos or homes, but I don’t care.. it makes me smile and i will enjoy her for awhile… even Quin and Quincey have welcomed her. thank goodness for my 11ft. ceilings.

Always life with hope in your heart

With a clear image in mind, move forward with enthusiasm. Your dreams will surely come true with perseverance,

oops

Life has a way of throwing us curve balls when we least expect it. Suddenly we are in free fall when a moment before, we thought we had it all under control.

Have you ever had that moment … when you realize…. something just happened, and you just know.. it is going to make a difference in your life…. you just have to figure out, how and why?

Stop.. close your eyes and just pause… take that moment just to reflect and treat yourself to a big sigh… You made it to this moment… it’s a new beginning.. (if you are old enough, you remember this saying)

Exit

When a fire alarm starts going off in your building before 7 a.m. and just keeps ringing that warning sound, ahh what do you do… Thank goodness I’m on the ground floor and I have an exit right on to my patio which is just outside of the courtyard where where the fire trucks are rolling in. Yes this is the day after a snow storm that has left about 6 inches of fresh snow on the ground over whatever was there before the latest snow fall.

Today I’m showing some of the door ways that I would choose to enter… to escape the noise and the confusion that happens when an alarm goes off in a Highrise complex.. (adult living) My door that I got open with some difficulty since its middle of winter and I have not opened it since the fall, was my patio door. Grabbing my boots and trudging out beyond my hedge to the fire trucks… Firemen were coming back from doing a walk around the building looking for ???

I still don’t know what happened, but I was assured, I would be fine, and not to worry … no action was required on my part. The cats who were taking it in stride, but like myself were not happy with the shrill ongoing noise. Took another 15 minutes or so before the alarm was silenced. I can assure you, it is a rude way to start one’s day.

If you have an interest in doors, today being Thursday, the link to the Thursday Door link on Dan’s No Facilities site, will be posted at the end of this blog.

Today’s message

If you face a situation head on, a path will open up.

No matter how hard the situation is, face it head on. If you approach it seriously you will be able to find a way to break through,

PL2014.26

Since I was already outside, when I went out to find out what was going on, I grabbed my shovel and cleared my patio area. Not such a smart move with me just at the tail end of a serious chest and sinus infection.

Sunday

Me, myself and I…. that is who I am responsible for and to. I am so tired of hearing from people that what has happened to them, is always someone else’s fault. if he, if she hadn’t done, this, that etc. what has happened to being responsible for one’s own actions. Alright, the world isn’t always fair, but it is how we react or respond to a situation that is important. If you feel someone has done you a disservice.. you can be thankful that you found out or recognized what is or was being done. You look at the perceived negativity towards you,, and move on, it has already been done,… you can’t go back and erase what happened but you can learn from it.. and move on. Your life is just so much more important …

I started this yesterday but I was sidetracked by a body that won’t let go of a virus.. I listened, and went back to bed and stayed there, Does anyone else out there use weighted blankets?

How has the week begun for you? I hope it has been a sterling start to a brand new week.

A winter sculpture, a promise of spring and new beginnings. Smile.. Nature is a wonderful cure for anything that ails us.

If you are going to do it, do it joyfully

If you have to do something, choose to do it with joy and enthusiasm, By doing so, you will experience a deeper sense of beauty.

Sometimes looking out into the distance, I wonder what it would be like to simply be able to point and magically transport myself to the top of the mountain, and look down. I see the snow .. it looks so pure so pristine…

I have had friends who recently went on retreats, silence, meditation, they had to leave their electronic gadgets … there was no writing paper, no reading…. just… time…. and quiet reflection.

The world is such a vast and interesting place… and the people who inhabit the various corners of the world are diverse … does today’s technology make for a better improved world, or… is it causing unrest and strife.

Cold!

Cold you say! Here is a brave young man testing the cold.. He took a soaking wet towel and swung it in the air …in a few minutes.. hello… frozen towel… the last picture, his big success, was putting a banana out in the cold, leaving it out overnight till it froze… then using the frozen banana, he hammered that nail you see into the board. Who says we don’t know how to have fun in cold weather.!!!

Here we are the 3rd day of February, the heart month, Feb. 14th is Valentine’s day … Feb. 17, is the Chinese lunar new year… (Horse) … AND… you will find Mardi Gras celebrations happening mid month as well….Lots to do, hope you are able to get out, in Ottawa, Winterlude is happening, ice sculptures, skating on the canal, beavertails, exhibits, snow slides, snow shoeing, X-country skiing… performances, live entertainment, tobogganing… just too many activities to list.. Guaranteed winter fun,

Instead of worrying, do something about it

It doesn’t help to over-think situations such as, “what if this happens?” or, “Things might end up that way”. Instead be proactive and change how you see and do things in each situation.

Pileated woodpecker

Pileated woodpecker

I was humbled and totally captured by this beautiful bird yesterday. He surprised me by appearing beside me, and I mean beside me… looked me right in the eyes, and actually stayed there long enough for me to re cover my shock at having him so close to me and my face. I was putting out seed along a fallen log for the other birds… he was an arm’s reach from me … we were face to face…

My only thought was … this must be the bird that hung around with me a year or so ago.. he would come and visit, then fly off and I’d hear his knocking…. loud knock knock knock.. on the various trees around.. He hung around maybe a week or two and then he was gone… I’d hear him, but never see him …. He left an impression… but with time.. the moments faded… so much else is happening in the world.

Yesterday when I saw him… the fact that he was so close to me, and stayed close enough to connect with me, brought back that first encounter… I had never seen a pileated up close .. ever… I was used to the Downy and the Hairy fluttering around waiting for the food to be put out… but never had I seen the pileated. What a majestic bird.

I was too taken aback and “in the moment” that getting a picture was just not even in my head. All I could do was look back at him … I might even have gasped… then he flew off calling as he went.

This morning I found the clip by Francois Potvin… I’m sharing it with you. Enjoy.
