a spa day – really!

For real.  A special visit for 2 MapleLea dolls who got to visit an American Girl Salon at the AG Boutique at Chapters downtown Ottawa, right in the heart of the city. They were so thrilled..

First they got to pick their new hair styles, and then the colours of the bows they wanted.  There was even talk of nail polish for their nails, and having their ears done.  We did look at earrings, but when  roller skates were added to the want list.. it was agreed, we would come back on another day. I got to look around for new accessories for their wardrobes that to will wait for another day.

The staff is so courteous, and well-informed, they were able to answer all the questions, well most of them, the girls had about the history and back grounds for a couple of their friends.  Seeing where their friends came from was very exciting for them. they couldn’t stop talking about their experience all the way back home.

There was a lot of excitement and giggling when it came time for the young ladies to get ready for bed.  I somehow think it will take a wee bit of time to get them to settle down.

Being positive,  sharing a good experience with friends, is always a good way to create happy memories

Girl Again White Plains .NY.

I had been searching for two dolls that have been retired from the American Girl current offerings.  I saw them on e-Bay and other website online stores, but they were pricey and I didn’t know the vendors.  Nor was I that familiar with purchasing online.

Josefina 7.7.19.17I had  a serious interest in Josefina Montoya 1824, almost from the start of my “interest” in the American Girl dolls, Josefina caught my attention.  Josefina lived on a rancho in the period of 1824.  She dreamed of being a healer, and knew she had to be open to new ideas.

Those were my thoughts and dreams when I was younger.  When she was released, she wore the outfit you see her in now, but of course, there were accessories.  Which I discovered if the doll was next to impossible to find, so were her accessories.

When American Girl launches a doll, they provide her history, her biggest dreams, and tell you about her family, she had a pet goat Sombrita, which I have not found, but this little guy is loving having Josefina here with us.

Girl Again, is a resale boutique for American dolls.  It is in White Plains NY.  I found them through a YouTube video I had been watching.  They were founded by a non-profit groups, Yes She Can Inc.  That teaches job skill development for women with Autism.  I went to their site, and was interested and impressed with the work that they do there.

www,YesSheCanInc.org   Marjorie Madfis, President, can be reached at 914-428-1258 or by e-mail.     info@YesSheCanInc.org

When I first got in touch I was looking for a body for Nellie (I had her head, but no body) she is another doll that has been retired.  I was so impressed with the staff and the service that I got, that when I found out they had Josefina and Ivy Ling, I ordered them too.

The Girl Again, website is GirlAGain.com  Their phone number is 914-358-1460.

Sometimes what we want is just not available in our area, or part of the Country, State or Province.  They are a wonderful place to look if you are looking for an American Girl doll, they offer gently used dolls from the historic collections, Truly me, Girl of the year, as well as furniture and accessories.  Oh, and outfits and books.

You met Ivy already in my last blog.  Ivy Ling (1976) is proud of her Chinese heritage, her hometown is San Francisco, since my heritage is Chinese and I have family In the SF area, you just know, I had to include her in my “doll family”

I doubt when I was younger I would have spent much time with dolls, but, now as an “adult” collector, it is not only fun but a learning experience.

It beats.. evening news and politics.

There is a time and a place for everything.

expectations

Kit July 20.17

Kit took the hats outside, they would be perfect for the visit back to the early 1900’s what was it she heard, 1934, or was it 1944.  Whatever, she knew that when they called her in, she would be ready for the part.  She had carefully taken them out of the storage box, and cleaned them.  They had been outside drying in the hot heat of the afternoon sun.

Nellie,Ivy and Elizabeth 7.19,17

Inside, Nellie, Ivy and Elizabeth were busy making their plans too.  They had been called in earlier and told that they were going to be assigned to the project that was heading back to the mid 1940’s .. They would have to study and read up on all the information that they had so that they could interact in the best way possible.  They would also have to talk to Kit, since that was her special time period.

The did wonder how come Kit had not been included in the assignment, but it was not their decision to make, nor their place to ask questions.  They had over a month to prepare.

When they saw Kit come in they couldn’t wait to tell her their news.  Each was so excited, that at first it didn’t register that Kit had gone very quiet.  It was only when Ivy asked Kit, if she would like to sit in and help them in their planning.  that they noticed, that she hesitated.

Kit excused herself, saying she had something to do, then fled to her room.  Alone in her room, she felt sad and disappointed.  She was not going with them.  She brooded for a while, then thought, she would talk it over with her friend ChenMay.

Kit and ChenMay 3

In talking it over with her friend, she realized that it wasn’t her friends fault that they were given this assignment.  She knew they would be good at it, and that it would give them the opportunity to visit and experience something she already knew.  AND they had asked her for help to plan.  She would be involved, just not going.

That meant, as ChenMay had helped her to realize, she would going on a different adventure, something brand new to her.  Now that was exciting.

She felt so blessed that she had such good friends and team mates.  The gloom had lifted, and her appreciation for her friends grew. It WAS a beautiful day, her smile lit up the room.  ChenMay was happy too, she had  shared quality time with her friend, so she was smiling too…

a dragon appears

Yes she knew he was not real, of course he was made out of pewter, and the blue gemstones were not the best… or so she was told…  then why did she feel that he watched her every move.  She wanted ChenMay to be there, but ChenMay was not with her, ChenMay was in another part of the grounds.

She hadn’t seen him at first, and now she didn’t know what had made her look down.  As soon as the sunlight had gleamed on his eyes, she had known to stop.  She searched her mind to try to recall what ChenMay had told her about the dragon.  The dragon was part of the Wizardology   classes that ChenMay gave each fall to new Apprentices.

dragon 2She looked closer, and saw the defined scales all over his body, he was majestic.

“Oh there you are” ChenMay’s voice drifted towards them, as she approached where they were standing.  “You’ve met ” she smiled as she bent to pick up the dragon.

Leonie would say later, that one minute the dragon was on the ground, and the next he was gone.  ChenMay bent down, and when she stood, the dragon was gone. ” I saw him” she would exclaim, “he really was there, his scales shone in the sunlight. ”

ChenMay would only say, “dragon’s play, dragon’s fly away” then chuckle and turn away.

—————————————————————————————————————————————— the day started at an easy pace, we were all still worried about Sam’s delay, the estimated time of arrival was July 11th. mid day.  Finally when we still had not heard, we had no choice but to wait till today.

The surprise was that  Celine arrived a day early… so time was taken getting her settled into her rooms.  Her hair was a fright.  Nothing would do but she wanted time at the spa.

Sam bless her heart, finally arrived, by this time, we were nearing panic mode.  All is well, Dragon Soft, kept us calm.Sam getting used to being here 7.12.17Sam was really tired, we have all decided it is best to let her rest up before we  find out about her journey here.  (from United Kingdom) (A girl for all Time)

What!

bird house 7.11.17

Part of the bird house had paint on it, but the rest was devoid of any colour.  Instead, Rosie saw colour everywhere else. Splashes of vibrant colour was all over the papers, strewn on the floor.

colour spill 1

She tried to imagine what had taken place, but besides knowing that the girls had been going to paint the birdhouse, she really had no idea, what had transpired during the time she had been in the other room preparing the evening meal.

colour spill 2

Closing her eyes she tried to remember which of the girls had suggested the project. Leonie’s face popped into view, her face and hands splattered with paint.  ChenMay had been with her, of course now she remembered, they were going to try to paint the bird house like the abstract painting they had seen at the gallery.

colour spill 3

She opened her eyes to see the girls all looking at her expectantly .. they were waiting with great anticipation for her to say something.  She didn’t know what to say, she was speechless.  “hello” she said, “what happened here”

They all began talking at once, “one at a time please” she suggested.  Then one by one, they began their tale of the painted bird house.  They had all wanted to paint the birdhouse, but they couldn’t agree just how to go about it, so, they decided that they should each demonstrate their ideas on paper.  They had so much fun with the paint when it dripped, splashed and swirled that they had gotten carried away.

One thing they agreed on, was that it was fun to paint each in her own way, and that being happy was what counted.  They were sorry the bird house didn’t get painted, but they could try again tomorrow…. and please  ..Rosie … they ran out of paint, could they have more?

bottles on the drawer stand

Rosie stood back and looked at her chest of drawers.   It looked like she last saw it, yet it seemed that some of the powders were not as she had left them.

Meanwhile, Breeana was outside fussing with the vines along the fence.

breanna 7.10.17.JPG

She had carefully made her way down the path, pulling out as many weeds as she could along the way.  Listening to her music, time had slipped by it was probably time for her to go in.  She sensed that Rosie would be looking for her, and made her way towards the house.

Sure enough just as she reached the back door, it opened and Rosie was standing there, ready to call her in.  Realizing they had once more found their way to the same place at the same time, they both laughed and greeted each other.

Ever since they had met, they just seemed to be on the same wave length. it was a comfortable feeling, and the beginning of a fast friendship.

“Breanna” Rosie asked “did you dust my chest of drawers today?”

“No, I thought of it, but didn’t want to go into your room without permission, why?”

“Nothing really, I just have the feeling that something was moved, or changed” both turned to look back towards Rosie’s room.  To Breanna it all looked the same, but to Rosie, although it appeared to be the way she left it, something didn’t feel right.

It often happens where two people see the same thing, but each has their own impression of what it is they are seeing.  They each will have their own realities, that is why it is important to have open dialogue and to think before we speak or make assumptions.

PL Principle #2  I will not have complaints about others, matters, nor the weather.  Rather I will always be creative and will look for shortcomings in my own thinking and actions.

PL Principle #7  I will not have a mind to be hasty, worry nor be pessimistic.

Keep your options open and be flexible

Leonie and ChenMay who had been listening, looked at one another, they had not gone into the room themselves, but they had wondered about the bottles lined up in a row, and they knew that Kit and China, like them had given the room more than a passing glance. Soon they hoped Rosie would tell them about the “secrets” in her room.  Did Breana know?

a new chapter begins

Ms Rosie June 7.17

As the miles sped by, Rosie wondered what her new home would be like.  She knew that she would like being with young people again, it was such a delight to watch them go from teen girls to young adults.  It was already past the supper hour, so she would have only a short time with them before it would be time to call it a day.

The few belongings she had and her grandmother’s old dresser had already been sent on ahead, with luck, there would be time for a nice long bath, and some time to write in her diary.

Back at the  house the girls were tidying up.  They had been told that  Rosie would be arriving, they wanted the place to look clean and tidy.  The old dresser had been moved into what would be Rosie’s room, they hoped that when  Rosie arrived, they would get a chance to see it up close and ask her about it.

Unfortunately it was the next day before they got to meet and greet Rosie.  There had been a delay,  Rosie had gotten in after their bedtime.

Rosie unpacking

Rosie got to settle into her new “home” at her own pace, and in her own time.  Since the girls had not been up when she got in. It would be so nice to fall into bed.  Her room had been nicely set up. and her dresser was ready for her to unpack before getting ready for bed.  Already she had ideas on how she would fix up her private space.

Tomorrow would be another day.  Plenty of time to meet the girls and see what kind of projects she could do with them.

Sometimes in life we have plans, but due to circumstances beyond our control, things don’t work out the way we would like them to, or as we expected they would.

That is when it is important to accept the changes, and appreciate the time we have gained to do something else.

story time — curiosity + patience

The girls watched silently, waiting for the music to come closer.  To their dismay, it stopped, and they were nowhere near figuring out where it was coming from.  They first heard the music when the old dresser was moved to where it now stood in the sun room.

Not just one of them had heard it, they all had. It reminded Kit of the music box her grandmother once had.  She looked all around the room, but there was no music box, or any other object that looked like one.

China’s eyes were big with wonder. The music had made her think of the time that the school had visited the big department store during the Christmas holidays.  The teacher had wanted them to see the big window display with all the coloured lights and sparkling snowflakes.  The elves had been busy in Santa’s workshop the happy music had filled the room as they happily hummed  while packing all the presents for Santa’s big night.

Did it have something to do with the old dresser?  If only they could get closer without making a lot of noise or drawing attention to themselves.  They were supposed to be in bed.  Ginger the eldest of the girls, was supposed to be doing her chores, but Kit saw her peeking out from the other room.  Everyone was interested.

chest of drawers

“Bedtime girls, I’ll be in shortly to say goodnight.” sigh, they knew that it would be tomorrow before they would be given a clue or information.. If Q was coming to tuck them in… that meant, it was going to be lights out.  Scampering back to their respective rooms, they climbed back into bed.  Being patient was going to be hard.

As Q tucked them in, she whispered “tomorrow is another day, you will have lots of time to explore and look around” China and Kit whispered as Q moved on to see Chen-May and Leonie “what Precept do you think will help us be patient and allow things to progress at their own pace”  giggling China said, “Q is always reminding us of our lessons”  with that, both girls closed their eyes and let their anticipation and dreams carry them into the magical land  of sleep.
