times get tough – be creative

P1000267

There are times, when no matter which direction we turn, life throws us a curve.  We can see these times as tough times, or as opportunities to challenge our creativity.  Countless books, and lectures have been given on “how to deal with adversity”.

PL Precept #1 – Life is Art

It really truly is.  Each time we’ve driven by this little display in Potsdam, NY, I wonder out loud, what, why, and where, the whole idea came from.  This time, we stopped so I could take some pictures.  The display has been there for some time, flowers are weather faded, and weeds well established.  There is also a similar display in another part of the town.  It is a University/College town, so I’m guessing, that it was some kind of project.  Whatever, it is most fun and interesting.

P1000269

Toilets, flush away waste, bath tubs, wash away daily grim.  At one time, the display would have been fresh and innovative.  Today it is obviously still a source of interest or it wouldn’t be there, taking up such prime real estate.  Some day, perhaps I’ll hear what prompted such a display of tongue in cheek creativity.  Does anyone out there know?

No matter how tough times get, we all have the potential and possibility to achieve something positive.  The whole project here, was about waste being recycled, and what “fun” it is.

jet lag- Japan-Canada

Jet lag- stuck in two realities, your body is physically in one place, but the mind, spirit and other sundries are the void somewhere between the two.  In Japan I was up in the wee hours because back home it was daytime.  Now I’m back home and I’m up in the wee hours because in Japan it is daytime.  PL Precept # 15 All is a Mirror

I travelled miles, spent hours in the airports, wandered what seems  days from one terminal to another.  I was in a constant state of “now” yet days later, after finally touching ground and being back on familiar ground, my “now” is still in Japan.  PL Precept # 7  Everything exists in Relativity.

Is this the answer at 2:26 in the morning, spaghetti with anchovies, garlic and olive oil. NO.  One thing that was made clear to me in Japan, was that I needed to cultivate a healthier way of eating, for me that is portion control.

hmmm, I think its time for me to try to go back to bed and find the door to slumber land.  Or I could stay here and be silly with you.  For sanity all around, I will go try to catch some zzzzz’s.  Although my mind is turning over with thoughts on how jet lag is so much like a state of being in another world, one that is parallel to the one we are in.  If only it could be as simple as walking from one room to another, the two worlds are so similar, yet so different. they really are worlds apart.  NOW I’m embraced by both, and physically I can only be in one place at a time.

Last meal in Japan

IMG_1825

Knowing it would be a while before I would once more be in Japan, I surveyed the available restaurants well before I decided on where I would eat.  No fast take away, or the airport versions of western food, believe me the dishes all looked good, I was hungry.

IMG_1821

I had plenty of time, I decided on a venue that had a more traditional feel (for me).  I saw it as my last meal … and made the most of it.

IMG_1823

I obviously have a lot to tell you about, once I’m over this jet lag, I’ll talk more of the benefits of eating healthy, the talk I had with the doctor in Japan, (re. being diabetic)  The Japanese cultural history is world known for promoting good health and longevity. (Food)

Being without internet, social media, television, etc. for an extended period is very self revealing.

PL Precept # 19  Begin Once You Perceive

Sometimes in life, we need to listen to our inner voice.. stop running, we are doing, doing doing, but not being effective,  Life will find a way to step in and ensure you stop, listen, and recharge.

Trolling Pinterest the other day, I came across this photo.  It caught my attention, you know me and rusted out metal.  I liked it enough to post it to my board on old vehicles .. then I moved on and thought really nothing more about it.  This morning, a bing alerted me to an incoming message… someone wanted to know, how anyone could leave such a beauty to simply rot and decay.  I had no answer, but it did get me to thinking.

da876e881488239b4c66acddcb17fff7

What is it, why do we do this.  This was a wooded area for about 70 years in Chatillon, Belgium, it was home to one of the largest car cemeteries in the world (found on Pinterest)  Obviously I am not alone in my love of “old” rusted out beauties.  Yes, I say beauties those of us on the hunt, even wax poetically about the shades of rust.  AND we will wander into fields, back woods, where ever there is a hint of a “capture”  Yet I won’t go on a picnic or eat outside at a cafe, cuz the bugs will annoy me!  Go figure!

If I see or meet someone who has found a treasure and fixed it up.  Man that is someone I want to meet.  And you know I’m going after a picture, and the story.  But. for some reason, I have never asked the question, why abandon a car/truck in the first place.

Does anyone know or want to fathom a guess?

Tuesday, really?

FullSizeRender[3]

Ok really, trains passing, going at a clip,  for one reason or another, I just wasn’t getting what I wanted.  Some times like this morning. I was looking for a picture of “nothing”  You know, emptiness.  But .. all I could find were pictures of this, that and whatever.

DSC00066

OH, how about this empty lot, in the spring, before it became an active fresh veggie stop, no that didn’t work, I’ve used other versions of it before.  These long week-ends are soooo long,  on Friday I was thinking it was Sunday, on Saturday a non holiday, I thought it was Monday, Sunday was Sunday, then Monday, a regular day for us, but a holiday in the States, I was thinking it was Wednesday.

There is really no such thing as an empty space, nothing, there is always something.  we need only really look, we have all heard the expression, “seek and you shall find”

and here is another one, “perception is reality”

btw. I do know its Tuesday, and I’m off to MontrealsmilePencil
