house on the hill

So lonely and sad, the old house now sits so silently on the hill – No more does it hear the sounds of children playing – or the clanking of pots and pans as dinner is being made It’s former charm has now long since gone.

Imagine how it had once been, the proud haven for how many generations of families? Can you see the farmer tending the land, animals grazing near and around the homestead…. I think I see that a swing once sat in the front yard, where come evening, the family could gather and watch as the evening skies filled with stars. A gallery of twinkling particles of light against a clear night time sky

My friend and photographer Shirley Keen took these photos while on one of her jaunts. I was going to use it for “Thursday Doors” but there was a poignant feeling about the house, that inspired me to give it its own place on a page. Old homesteads like this are found not only in NZ but here in Canada, and I’m sure in the USA. I noticed in the pictures there was no road leading in to the house, nor any sign of hydro (electricity) being fed to the house. It has to have been vacant for years. There is a road not far off, but no driveway to this building.

Update. the Hoult farm house has been in the same family for 6 generations. It seems there will soon be a new house built close to where this one now stands by one of the descendent of this family.

Could this have been a reservoir for catching rain water?

Seeing the pictures Shirley took of this old farmstead brought back memories of days when the entire area around where I grew up was farmland such as seen in these photos, and now … all one can see are city lights and urban sprawl.

Let’s interact proactively with an ever changing society. society is always rapidly hanging with the times. Keep your eyes and mind in tune with these change and learn to deal with them proactively.

buffet

Sometimes in life we are faced with just so much goodness at one time, we have to pace ourselves so we don’t overdo. The buffet was something that was simply not available the last many months, so it was a fun experience to enjoy the feast presented to us last night at Mandarin Buffet in the east end of the city. We had reservations, on entering we had to present them with our vaccine certification and proof of ID, as well as have our temperatures taken.

The restaurant is a big place with many guest rooms. Once seated we were instructed on the proper way to obtain our food, we had hand sanitizers provided on leaving the room we were assigned to, and disposable gloves. These were to be used before going up to the food tables. Some food sections you were served. ie. ice cream section, you pointed to what you wanted and a server gave you the ice cream you selected.

On returning to your table, there was a server there to remove the disposable gloves and any other “waste” that had accumulated We were totally impressed with the cleanliness and the organized way everything was orchestrated. The food as always was scrumptious. Yours truly who does not drink, decided since it was such a festive and enjoyable experience to try a Marguerita. LOL I managed only a very small portion of the drink it came with mounds of crushed ice, and I couldn’t’ 1 keep up with the melt, and two… pleasant enough to taste.. I was not used to the alcohol. I got home and went immediately to bed and slept for hours.

Have a “let’s do it” attitude Even if a task is difficult, keep in mind it is given by God and accomplish it.

blue spruce today – I love this tree

Then and now… when we love … we love forever… I found this tree years ago, and every year since I planted it, I’ve watched it grow and spread its branches. I never tire of my appreciation for its presence in my life.

Let’s begin today with a smile. Let’s stat the day with a positive outlook, looking forward to what we can discover

Wednesday- PL WAY

PL Peace Tower -Japan

Your life is your very own unique work of art. If you cut corners or miss important details, you will not be able to live up to your fullest potential. If you fail to see what is important or miss a vital step, the value of your artistic life will be declined. It is important to put your heart into even the smallest of matters reminding yourself that each small amount accumulates into the whole of your artistic life.

Life is Art

PL Precept # 1

To Live is to express One’s Self

PL Precept # 2

Did you know that the first founder of PL, Rev. Tokuharu Miki, was formerly a buddhis priest> In 1912, he met Rev Tkumitsu Kanada who instantly cured his chronic asthma through the “Sacred rite of Ofurikae” So profoundly affected was Rev. Tokubaru Miki he became his disciple. At that time in Japan, tuberculosis was one of the deadliest diseases, Rev Miki wanted to apply his learning and the principles of Rev. Kanada’s teachings in helping the young/old deal with this deadly disease that was taking so many lives.

There is much to learn from knowing our history, and appreciating the lessons learned by our ancestors. Tomorrow, the 11th. in all PL churches there will be a 10:a.m. service honoring our Ancestors’. Ancestors’ Day – the 11th of each month -a ceremony where we express our gratitude for the love and virtues of our ancestors and ask for their protection and guidance so we can continue to live the PL WAY.

Monday blues/jazz

Good morning everyone.. last night ensuring I stayed off my leg so that I can safely go out this morning for an appointment, I treated myself to an evening of “tunes”.. like in the “old days” when I loved just kicking back and listening to music. Now with the internet and YouTube we can browse to our hearts content and find the musicians and music we want in as many flavours as we want. Here are two videos you can listen to if you are in the mood for some good sax…. =^_^=

Tell yourself “things happen” Even if something is inconvenient once you accept it, you’ll be able to move onto the next step

Saturday Haunting

Look who is coming for dinner…

Anyone coming to my house can expect soft food. I finally had my appointment with the oral surgeon who did his “thing” on me back in April. Today he opened up the healed wound to insert screws… At long last I’m a step closer to the final steps. No candy or hard food for the next while, he’s put me back on a “soft” diet.. Pumpkin pie is soft, right!!! ice cream and whipped cream…

Do things joyfully instead of taking it easy. Enthusiastically engage with what’s in front of you. You’ll enjoy it more.

witching hour

When the midnight hour strikes, the ghosts and goblins come out to play. There are always those who just don’t fit in, the ghouls and their pranks, the vampires and their weird sense of humour. Like, being bitten is fun!.

Some players just don’t get that its not nice to play with pointed objects that could hurt someone

I did meet a dog who seemed friendly at first, but when I drew closer, he bared his teeth and snapped… I got the message and moved on.

I thought to have more luck with this fellow, but he just wasn’t interested in anything but his bottle. We do our best, it is really all we can do.

Be careful about saying “its probably good enough”” Wholeheartedly do what you notice, when and how you notice it.
