Days gone by

Jeep and trip to Embrum 151

The other day I drove past a small Baptist Church.  I couldn’t help but wonder, what it had been like several decades ago.  The town it is in is not all that big, and it has several churches.  This is one of them.  Back in its day, the town was active, and bustling with activity.  There are still many working farms in the communities.  Do the small churches still  fill up and bubble over with the voices of growing families and animated children?

Jeep and trip to Embrum 160 This is one I found on the back road as I wound my  way down the quiet highway towards another small town in the townships.  I stopped the car in both instances, and walked up to and around the buildings.  You can see that there is a cemetery next to the Presbyterian church.  Reading tombstones is a wonderful way to pass the time and take in the history of a place.  There is something very valuable in remembering and giving thanks to ancestors and their contributions to what “is” today.

Jeep and trip to Embrum 169My journey that day took me past miles of tended farmer’s fields, plowed and ready for the next growing season.  It was a relaxing drive, I found that my mind emptied as the  landscapes changed.  The beauty of being on an open road with a clear blue sky above, and the zillion shapes and colors of autumn formed  a gallery of unique artwork just for me.  I was on a natural high.

Monotone you say!  no way, it is a master piece I say..Never take for granted the food on your plate. Think back to days gone by, when farmers came from all around to pray in the small churches in the towns and villages.  Working hard all week, then Sundays gathering with friends for shared community and song. Traditions are being lost and forgotten.  Remember when you drive along a country road,  to look at the vistas you are passing.  When you look and see a barn that has lost part of its roof, and the walls are falling in on themselves, remember that at one time it had a purpose, it is a testament of another time.  One that got us to where we are today.

Jeep and trip to Embrum 183

I left home with no expectations, and was treated to a day filled with wonders, and amazing moments.  I felt deep gratitude, the Universe blessed me with a precious gift.   A glimpse of life in another time,, an appreciation of days gone by.

unrequited love

From the very first moment that I caught sight of you

I knew you meant something to me

There was something about the way you  stood

So proud, so regal, so totally beautiful

I really wanted to see more of you.

For days I saw you in my dreams,

I spoke of you, I asked about you, I wanted to know all about you.

No one could tell me anything, you were a mystery

I persisted, I called around, a friend went out to try and find you

She wrote her excursion had not been successful

Finally I drove down the highway where I’d first seen you

Be still my heart, there you were, in daylight you even looked more appealing

I got out and walked near you, as I got closer I saw  you were older than I thought

It didn’t matter, you had captivated and captured my heart

Jeep and trip to Embrum 149

knowing nothing about you, and not being able to get access to information about you

All I could do was to admire what i saw

Yes I saw you had really lived your life at one time with someone who had  really

spent a lot of time with you

Now it appeared you had been cast aside,

probably for a younger model.

Jeep and trip to Embrum 146

Had I the space I’d take you home and let you graze in the pasture

With gentle breezes and flowers in the meadow

Jeep and trip to Embrum 138

Somehow I know the neighbours will just not want you on our front lawn

I’ve taken pictures, and I want you to know

That although I can’t have you with me, you will always have a place in my heart

Jeep and trip to Embrum 137

For now your seats are empty and you aren’t going to go far

but.. you’ve earned your rest  the mileage you’ve put on, the challenges you’ve lived

have given you the right to call it a day… I hope someone else will find you some day

and enjoy your  as I have..  I cannot bring you home, I can’t own you,

but by golly I sure can appreciate you, yes, just the way you are.

bear hugs

If  I could wrap my arms around the Jeep to hug it, I would.

Sharing her with you is all I can do for now

Blessings everyone!!

the ticking of a clock

Loss and grief, at some time in our lives, we all come face to face with the pain of loss….   we feel engulfed in a sadness that reverberates in every miniscule part of our BEing.  No words seem to penetrate into the core of the void.  Vince Gill wrote the above song when his brother passed away, from his grief came a beautiful song that will be enjoyed for years to come..

Music is a universal language it has a voice/meaning for anyone who is open to the message.  Interestingly the message/what is heard, may not have anything at all to do with the lyrics.  I’ve seen myself how music will affect someone, and yet when asked how they liked the song, they heard only the music.  In other instances I’ve heard people diss a song because of the words, they picked up on, their thought process never got past the words,  At one time I wanted to share, so I tried to explain or have the person see or hear what I was hearing. didn’t work.   We are all unique, just as no two people will interpret a dance the same way, each of us will respond in our own way to the ticking of a clock…

Just got a new clock (to me) I bought it because it looks like a retro old plastic radio clock of the 50’s/60’s, it ticks… all the other clocks in the house are quiet, i.e. on the computer. or are electric.  There is something to be said about the rhythm of a ticking clock….  life is like a clock, it moves along a tick at a time, tick, toc, the seconds pass by.  It is amazing how quickly life is given and/or taken away.

We grow by overcoming obstacles, one by one, tick, toc….   tick..toc.. Sometimes we feel that we are like a rock, we are going nowhere, we don’t see the sunshine, nor do we feel the rain, we exist.  In PL we believe that we are alive, rain or shine, life is for living, we know sadness because we have been happy, the joy and passion of life is all around us, we need only move on to the next second on the clock.  Trust in God, Believe, let go of what you think happiness is,  enjoy the life that is yours and in you.  Problems/challenges are opportunities.

scandalized

69c3db2e92bf2e5e1596dab340579ece

The Jitterbug caused scandals, it was called dirty dancing, students caught dancing the Jitterbug were likely to be banned from school .. serious stuff.

Did you smile?  Interesting that when this dance came along and was very popular, it was suffered terrible put downs.  It was in its hay day well before I was out dancing, but  in my mid teens we did versions of this dance, and I loved it.   I remember such moves, when you had a dance partner that was capable of really “letting go” we “went all out”..  In my day it was jiving, swing dancing, I think they did the hand jive in Grease.   We would go dancing every night if we could.  Of course we often had dance floors in the restaurants (hang outs) and either live music or a rocking juke box.

8817f25f4ae42e7b5d38f290343d7cf6

I’ve provided a how to at the bottom of this blog for those of you interested in trying out some of the moves =^_^=  (Jeff & Amanda Miller)

Remember when long hair on men hit the “scene” .. – wow.. scandal.. tongues wagged, heads shook in disbelief.

The music had changed by then too.  One scandal that caused major problems when they made their debut Jeans  and while not  considered major problems now, they can be seen at times as being inappropriate…

01110266dbb8a6f3173947758179d677

All this to say, that when we come across something unfamiliar, we often take a “negative” view, “just because”… we don’t allow ourselves time to take in the “new” concept, item, experience.  If we reflect on the above examples I’ve used, today a lot of what was a scandal is common, everyday stuff.  If you think about past events, experiences in your life, whether a few years, a decade, whatever, you will likely discover that you did take steps out side the box on more than one occasion.

Changes are what makes life interesting.  Scandal comes in many forms, often it is a personal perspective that influences your reaction. =^_^= to a new idea, or a different version of something you already know. As we work towards self-improvement, experiment with thinking “outside the box”.

Aging

Good Morning!  another day begins.  Aging, as humans this is a journey we will all take.  Unlike mechanical or man-made objects, we aren’t parked and left to rust.  The process of aging takes place in a very different way, for each and every one of us.  Even the manner we are laid to rest has changed over the years.

Dancing when we partnered and spoke in rhythm to the music that was in our lives.  Activity for many was hours of dancing to the sounds of the time.  Roller skating, or ice skating, had us outside, for others there was hockey, skiing, ice climbing or racing, and ladies remember the two-step on skates. snowshoeing, biking!  As the years roll by, do we do as  much as we used to do?   Maybe the type of activity changes, but it is important to keep moving, doing, and stretching not only our bodies but our minds.

We need to put our hearts and mind into everything we do.  Activity keeps the momentum of life moving forward.,  Seize the day, get out and enjoy!  Fresh air, fresh outlook, all contribute to a new perception.  Life is Art…..

thank you SO much

b64591a3d5881871611cec2fdbdf80e9

“Thank you so very much” said the voice, it was soft and cultured, without turning I knew that it would be someone older, of an “age” when courtesy and etiquette mattered.  I heard rather than saw the smile in the young woman’s voice that was serving the client.  The store was busy, crowded with shoppers looking for that special gift at the advertised discounted prices.”You are so welcome, it has been my pleasure” was the reply. The interchange between customer and sales associate  made me smile, I felt a nice feeling and thought what a wonderful way to start a day.  When I turned to the area where the voices had come from I was surprised to see not an elderly woman, but a young girl with faded jeans, and a torn T-shirt, her hair was dyed a fluorescent pink, her lips and nails were an ebony black, studded with blinking gems. When she smiled at me I saw that she had a tattoo of a rose on her  cheek and a gold ring in her nose. I must have stared, because she gave me a knowing smile, while   flashing me the sweetest of looks from the  bluest of eyes under the longest lashes I’ve ever seen.  With a mischievous nod of her head, she winked at me and said “A very good day to you Mam” and gracefully turned and walked away.

The sales associate who had witnessed this exchange gave a little giggle, and said, “isn’t she just the greatest”  I recovered my surprise and agreed with her that yes,  “she” certainly was.  That was …… and she named the actress who was playing at the theatre up the way.  Ah…. a light bulb went on in my gray matter….yes there was a play happening in the city, and they could have been having a dress rehearsal … yet … I knew I had just been given a “lesson”  a reminder, that I should not be judging a book by its cover, and I for sure, should not have made assumptions…. PL Precept # 18 – each moment is a turning point.

PL Principle #2 … … …. I will look for and be aware of shortcomings in my own thinking and actions  **the exact wording to this Principle is  “I will not have complaints about others, matters, nor the weather.  Rather I will always be creative and will look for shortcomings in my own thinking and actions.

02e1528600a592817fbfa1c67158c13f

Take a moment to say Thank You for the lessons you have learned today.  I like to begin and end each day with a sense of appreciation for the gifts I have been blessed with, and the lessons I have yet to learn. To know true meaning in our lives, we have to sincerely believe and appreciate the blessings we receive.

this is a story that gives us a very different view on life…

a new season will soon be here…

The warm fuzzy glow of a warm house, frost on the windows, air that is crisp and clear. Hmm not everyone smiles dreamily at the thought of the coming of winter, but I do.  There is something to be said about “nesting”.  Like a squirrel gathering nuts before the snow comes, I get in supplies like I think that it is the late 1800’s or early 1900’s and we need to be prepared.

e45459c4b5357b2ae6310b595376d578

Winter weather has been rather erratic of late, wow, places that seldom saw snow  have been hit with blizzards, crops in the southern states have had some brutal storms come their way.  All over the world, winter comes and changes where we live, and we have to adjust.

Before the days of instant news, and social media, we simply dealt with what came along. It might not have always been fun, or easy, but we took measures to  do our best to cope with the power outages, furnace malfunctions, delayed  transportation etc.  Now with “instant fixes, and gratification” it seems that there is more of a “panic” mode that sets in. OMG the cell phone is not working, or the TV  signal is all askew.

Arggghhh my PC is down.  Honeeeeee the internet is not working,  anguish at its best.  LOL been there done that.  Remember the days of trying to read by candle till the lights came back on.  How about the wind up radio, so you can hear the news should there be an announcement of when the power lines will be up again.

Winter is a special time, a time for spiritual rebirth, for reconnecting with the inner YOU.  A time where we can enjoy seeing the world new and fresh,  We are all unique and different in our own way, personalities and lifestyles vary.  One thing we all share is the gift of life and LOVE.

Let us do our best to see the positive in our lives, and to appreciate and show appreciation to those who share in our world. Whether close or far, reach out and say  hello, show you care.

At 24 young Dorothy Hart a successful actress in Hollywood, left her career to become a Catholic nun, Mother Prioress Dolores Hart  What a change this young lady made in her life…  Thomas Merton said “A man knows he has found his vocation when he stops thinking about how to live and begins to live.”  We are guided in life though an interplay of human responsibilities and divine directives.  Spiritual maturity  requires diligence, a clever mind and a trusting /loving heart.

c464e1442818105ebe86231e6b8dafb5A few ingredients for a good relationship are, respect, courtesy, appreciation and a dedication to the commitment, whatever that may be.  Negative thinking is something that afflicts us all at one time or another.  PL Precept # 15, All is a Mirror. No matter how often I revisit this Precept, it always presents me with a new perspective, life is an ongoing lesson, and I am the dedicated student.  Part of living in the moment is accepting the feelings that can wash over me at any  given time,  The homework is applying myself to understanding the moment, and then letting it go. A negative moment, will only be so, if we don’t apply positive action (s).

Buenos dias, good morning !

5a143dacca4eb44fa50f53dd579fc946

Remember when driving a car was something special, when driving meant you  drove standard, and used arm/hand signals for turning and stops?  Do you really remember driving a stick shift, if we all drove standards now, there would be less driving distracted by  a cell phones  or a morning cuppa java.

Do you remember the hood ornament and what it was for?

You might not have been around, but you heard of or know of this period in time. (the 70’s)  Life does move on, and with the changes come what the older generation refer to as nostalgia or memories of………… fill in the blanks.

At any age, we can reflect on what was, and often we reference past events to look at our present realities. However.. where the past has perhaps had some influence, you have assimilated and processed life at your own pace/speed. In Perfect Liberty, “Life is Art”, to live the PL “Way” you  learn to live in the present.  Now is the reality of everyday life.  Learn from today, and move on.  focus on true feelings.  The past becomes your present, its all good… yes! =^_^=
