Picadilly Theatre

Taken from Wikipedia.. cut and paste

Theatre or theater[1] is a collaborative form of fine art that uses live performers, typically actors or actresses, to present the experience of a real or imagined event before a live audience in a specific place, often a stage. The performers may communicate this experience to the audience through combinations of gesture, speech, song, music, and dance. Elements of art, such as painted scenery and stagecraft such as lighting are used to enhance the physicality, presence and immediacy of the experience.[2] The specific place of the performance is also named by the word “theatre” as derived from the Ancient Greek θέατρον (théatron, “a place for viewing”), itself from θεάομαι (theáomai, “to see”, “to watch”, “to observe”).

p1000564

The pictures themselves are part  of my collection of places that speak to me.  We have driven by when the doors have been open to air the place.  But, I have not been inside.

p1000565

It sits on a main street, there are houses close by, where people still live.  When I stopped to take the pictures, a walker  walked past, and greetings were shared. There was no concern or interest in my standing there, taking pictures.  Just another “tourist’ taking in the sights.

I have spoken to the lady who owns the building, she operates a small antique and knick knack shop near by.  In her plans, somewhere  down the road, she would like to fix it up and do something with it.  Meanwhile it sits.

Sometimes I feel like my body and mind are like the building.  I am here, I function, just don’t know how brilliantly I’m handling the day.

Today, I was searching through the “arts and crafts” section in a chain Thrift Shop (it is for profit, and gives a big percentage to the Diabetes agency in our area)  I came away with some great finds.. Things that  had I gone to the local “big store” Craft, hobby, or Stationary shops for, would have cost me 3 – 4 times more

It works for me, because over the years, I have worked with these products and purchased them at full price for “work” in a Corporate or Health Care Setting. People pass them on because something newer has come along, name has been changed, and it has a fancier package, and important here… it is marketed to the consumer by Crafting, and Hobby specialists  via You Tube or the company’s own website.

250 envelopes at 2.99 less 30% discount, is more appealing to me, than a box of 100 for 15$ plus taxes.  The drafting paper I got, 18 sheets for 2.99 less 30%  works for me, does the same job as the pad of specialty paper for 24$, and a real find was photo paper, gloss a package of 50 for 50 cents… versus 1 sheet for  89 cents

The relic that I am, had a darn good day.  I am excited about trying my goodies out, just as a theater goer is primed and eager to see a new movie or play. The Picadilly theater still stands,  the  sign above the door, still sits proudly announcing the function of the building. Every time I go by, I will wave, and wish it continued success  that it will go on  standing proud, no matter how the years fade and wear its facade down.

Had to get a closer look.  Around the block we drove, so I could really see t his entrance way to a church we saw along the way

p1000521Nice colours used in the stained glass…I like the simplicity of it.

——————————————————————————————————————————————-

p1000532

This entrance was hidden, but I was determined to get  a closer look.  the building appealed to me, we are trying to get more information on it.  Hwy 3, NY State going towards Watertown.  It is not always easy getting the real estate people to call us back…

p1000533

Some of you are really good at search and find, this is the real estate agent of note.. there was another sign, but it was long over grown with vegetation.

p1000530

OK so it isn’t everyone’s idea of “turn-key”   and it doesn’t have the greatest “curb appeal”  To each his/her own, right.

p1000529

I see a ton of possibility, AND it sets my mind to “dreaming” of what was, and what could be…

p1000528

Never give up on your dreams.  always look for the “something” that appeals to you.  It isn’t about what others may want, it is what “speaks to you”

ps. I was feeling rather sluggish with the weather today, happy, but draggin.. then I started to work on this blog, sharing with you,  I was pulling out my pictures of this latest “find” of mine.  I couldn’t help it, my heart took wings, a smile as broad as my face plastered itself across my “pus”  this building makes me smile, what can I say, the old weathered wood, the placement of the windows on the second story, watching out on the busy hwy.

The building was at an intersection, the sign was really too faded to read, but we thought we saw the word mini.. could have been a convenience store.  Certainly there was ample parking.  Yeah life is good. =^_^=

Blessings of the day to everyone… May you find peace and happiness, and your smile shine like a beacon of light for all who meet up with you today.

wishing

p1000507

Back from our short stint into the States.  We  had damp weather, some rain, not much, but I had a new experience that had me talking to myself and the strangers around me, who were wondering about my state of mind,  Although I have seen the signs, as we have driven by other locations in the States, I have never before stopped and gone in.

What I was wishing was that I had thought to whip out my camera and take a picture.  I missed the moment, because I was   totally awed by the sight of wall to wall cartons of cigarettes.  When we drove in, we did see the long and I mean long line of cars, driving up to the “take out” window.  Still I was unprepared for the sight that greeted me when I walked in.

I have never seen that many  different kinds of cigarettes, it was so well-organized, a whole wall of cigarettes, with people channeled through lines so that they went through designated lines picked out what they wanted, and then followed the queue to the cashier.  The lines are well-defined, keeping the buyers between metal type fencing,  Once in the lineup, you have no where else to go but follow the buyer in front of you.

It was amazing how efficient they were at getting customers in and out.  No being a smoker, it was like watching a foreign film  No smoking inside but the air outside was blue with smoke.

p1000537

Life offers us new experiences when we least expect it.  I went in there for information on the Native territory we were on, but was so “blown away” with what I did find… I left, without the needed information, and didn’t care.  I had  a super “holy smokes artichokes” WOW moment.

I wish I could have given you a visual, wishing won’t make it so… but believe me… I was thrilled…. (ok ok, it doesn’t take much.. I know.. =^_^=  )  If you are ever in the NY,Onadaga area… have a look…

Tomorrow is Wordless Wednesday… and yup I did get great picture to share, I liked it enough to holler…stop the truck!!

Chop suey Tuesday- impressions

p1000339

First Impressions – we all have them, when we see something, we take it in and in seconds, we have an impression

p1000340

No matter the impression, I find myself looking at the details, and the story the building tells me.

p1000344

Sometimes, the impression is one that is a statement, and I “know” it is not a place that I want to visit or know too much about it.  It  has a facade that clearly says…”I’m here, don’t mess with me”

p1000353This oldie sat off the road, I had to get out and take a closer look, this is the back of the house.  We tried to find out more about the house, it was for sale, we took the details, unfortunately, the seller, didn’t have a web site, and we were out of State by the time we were where we could look further into it.  I’ve not forgotten, and given the time hope that we will discover more about the house, and the selling price.

p1000346What is the fascination, don’t really know… we are on the look out for a property in the States that we can easily get to, and tour from there.  Maybe it is just a dream, its nice to be able to travel into the possibilities.  Life is busy, it is nice to have a place to drift too

p1000333my travels take me to a lot of places, I thrill on them all.  Each tells a story, each one is unique.  I feel like that about people too.  It is not what someone else tells me, it is what I “see” for myself.

The past may play a part in what a person, or place is “today”… however, we live in the now, and it is what you see and feel NOW that counts.

PL Principle #2   I will not have complaints about others, matters nor the weather.  Rather I will always be creative and look for shortcomings in my own thinking and actions.

PL Principle #6  I will not be stubborn, being captured by my own thoughts.

PL Precept # 6 Efface your self conceptions.

What impression will you make on the world today?

yes it is still Wednesday -but a Thursday door is in this post!

p1000413

We can only wonder at the creative mind that pulled this all together.  what a hoot it must have been to drive up and meet the people here, possibly someone somewhere will know more about this location, and contact me.  Meanwhile…. I enjoy the little surprises as i revisit the pictures.

p1000390

Both my husband and our friend Syb, were reminded of Stephen King’s writing when they saw the pictures. I personally have not read a lot of Stephen King, what do you think?

p1000392

I know Norm, I know, tomorrow is Thursday, but as you can see, this door from the building is very standard issue. the one that was super cool was the one at the front, where they drove cars in and out from.

p1000386

Dorinda, Elusive, does this place inspire a storyline?  Anyone from Maine that knows anything about this place.. I’d love to hear from you.

Always be open to new discoveries, and when you find a piece of history that speaks to you…. enjoy it!
