so it was, past & present

p1000415

So it was, there before me, in its majestic glory, the ocean.  It was later in the day than we expected to arrive, but here we were.  Other cars were parked along the road, people with their camera poised for that perfect picture.  For me, it was the moment itself that was perfect.  Taking in a deep breath, the rest of the world around me disappeared.  In a second one can live and relive a lifetime.  No  matter how often such moments occur in my life, I am always amazed that such serenity and peace can wash over me, filling me with a gratitude and appreciation that no words can fully express, the blessing is to live that moment to the fullest.

p1000417

The camera can capture the landscape, and perhaps a “mood”… but that moment of connection to the “Universe” is very personal and unique to each person who was there on that highway, we all experienced our own individual “blessing”

p1000418

Some of us travel on the water, some of us are grounded on land, but no matter where we are in life, when we experience that intimate connection with the Divine force of Nature, we are captivated, enthralled and in that moment, we are ONE totally engaged in the transcending power of LOVE.

It is the start of a new month.  A new beginning.  In PL (Perfect LIberty) on the 1st of each month we have a ceremony, we pray for World Peace and rededicate ourselves to live as peaceful human beings in our own worlds.  That means anywhere we are “present”

PL Principle #21  I will live with the spirit of “Misasage” (devotion) working for the happiness of others.

PL precept #10  Love yourself and Others

When I feel one thing, and do another, then I am not being true to myself or to the person or situation I am interacting with.  It is not always easy to think before we speak, and, unfortunately, once the words leave our mouths, they can’t easily be taken back.

Let us begin this month, with a prayer in our hearts that extends out to all whose lives we touch.  Let us work towards acceptance and understanding when we are faced with something that is unfamiliar to us, or not in our comfort zone.  In the end, we may decide that we simply will have to agree to disagree, but at least, we listened to the option.  BEFORE making our decision, (choices)

PL Precept #2   To live is to express one’s self

what was

waku,Japan 2016

Sterling, handsome young man, caught in a suit.  Would we think this was the norm…  we could, he carries it so well. Confident, charming, years from now, this will be what was in 2016 on the day that picture was taken, it will not reflect anything else, but that moment in time.  We are often reminded of what was back in … pick  a year, any year…  What we discover is, that what was back then, although still part of our “make up” is in no way where we are in the “now”

Mamoru 2015

Will this young man remember the day he was off to play golf and was caught in the moment.  Maybe.  Life is filled with so many wonderful adventures, and we get to live each and every one.  I am often asked if I remember something that happened some many years ago.  My honest answer, is probably not.  If the person is able to give me enough information, I might catch a glimpse of what that person is remembering,  however often my memory is not the same as theirs.

rensei 2016 c

People come together for a reason, strangers meet and become friends, or not..    But the encounter is one that often leaves a lasting impression, sometimes, it is felt right away, and other times not till sometime yet to come.  When you live in the NOW (present) you are living in the moment, and that moment will be with you forever.  Even if you are lost in thoughts of the past, what is happening to you in the present, is still happening, you simply are missing the moment, and that is too bad, why, because you can never get it back.

Like the exhilaration of fireworks,  they happen, then they are gone.  It is our decision whether or not we go forward, or try to hold on to the past. Whether you want it  to or not, life will continue to flow in and around you.  One season will roll into the next, enjoy  the changes, you will blossom and with each season, your blooms will change.

Last meal in Japan

IMG_1825

Knowing it would be a while before I would once more be in Japan, I surveyed the available restaurants well before I decided on where I would eat.  No fast take away, or the airport versions of western food, believe me the dishes all looked good, I was hungry.

IMG_1821

I had plenty of time, I decided on a venue that had a more traditional feel (for me).  I saw it as my last meal … and made the most of it.

IMG_1823

I obviously have a lot to tell you about, once I’m over this jet lag, I’ll talk more of the benefits of eating healthy, the talk I had with the doctor in Japan, (re. being diabetic)  The Japanese cultural history is world known for promoting good health and longevity. (Food)

Being without internet, social media, television, etc. for an extended period is very self revealing.

Japanese bath and…..

P1000234

The sign points the way to the ladies bathing area

this time around, I didn’t get the sliding doors into the area

once inside, we remove our shoes

and put them in the slots allotted for guests

P1000229

On entering into the first room, there are sinks on the left

to the right an area to remove and put  your clothes in a designated shelf box

once you have removed all your clothes

you can enter into the bathing area,

it is again through a pair of sliding doors.

P1000228

the chair you see in the back corner

is a massage chair,

I regret to say, I never had the opportunity to try it

P1000232

on entering there is one north american type stall

next to it is a sauna,

which again, I did not get to use

P1000233

the next picture will show you the most popular way

to shower and remove the day’s “grime”

P1000230

I have found that this is the most comfortable and practical

way to wash.  You do your hair, and rinse off well

before you can get into the bath itself.

Soaps, shampoo and conditioner is provided

Once you are all cleaned and rinsed off,

only then, do you enter the bath.

P1000225

then it is back to the dorm

refreshed and relaxed

ready to roll out your futon

and tuck yourself in

This picture was taken after

some of the participants had gone

we were 12 to a room

what you see is what was in front of me,

from my little “home” while there

P1000235

this little nook, is where we could get hot/cold water

or cold drinks (vending machines)

just outside our room.  Where the two ladies

are looking is into another smaller bathing area

International visitors are welcomed once a year

we came from North American, Brazil, Argentina

Spain, and, and….. the North American participants were from the States

except for moi,  the only Canadian.

P1000236

This delightful woman was like our “den” Mother, she

and her crew, manned the International Office,

took our keys, gave out the keys.. rooms were always

locked when no one was in the room

The staff worked from the wee hours till late into the evening

answering questions, helping with our needs,

ensuring we got to meals on time

We always knew we had them there to look out for us.

Even though the majority of them could not speak English

it is amazing how efficient they were

and how we all managed to communicate

IMG_1761

it is a VERY  long journey from where I live

to Osaka, Japan, and from there to PL headquarters,  about another hour away.

was it worth it

yes, every minute, second of the pilgrimage

was a blessing

my sincere gratitude and love  goes to all

who shared this journey with me

making it an unforgetable experience.

P1000214

with the door

so far away

I’m stuck inside

till you go away

P1000211

you are putting me to sleep

that  steady driving drumming

on the roof

soothing, soft and calming

yawning, I give in

engulfed tamed by your lullaby

my busy mind

will stop chattering & meditate

till you go away

PL Precept # 19  Begin Once You Perceive

Namaste       –       Oyashikiri

Sometimes in life, we need to listen to our inner voice.. stop running, we are doing, doing doing, but not being effective,  Life will find a way to step in and ensure you stop, listen, and recharge.

lost in the wilderness

IMG_0671

Ok I’m not in the wilderness, but I could be.  Right, I’m not lost either, but just because I know where I am doesn’t mean I’m not lost. If I was an ant wandering around down there amongst the foliage, it would be a wilderness. (perspective)

IMG_0632

Especially if I had to find my way home, and back up the tree. Would the rain hamper my progress?  Certainly in a downpour in the truck, when it comes down in sheets, it is very difficult to see, even with the window washers going at full speed.

IMG_0631

Picture perfect isn’t what the day is all about.  I guess basically my thoughts are wandering, and tho’ I’m in a familiar place physically, my gray matter is heading for the wilderness, to find some breathing room.

IMG_0647

Sometimes it is best, to let life around you, sway and  bend as it may, tomorrow will be another day.  So when you wake, it will be a brand new day.
