Sunday 27th

this little guy is smaller, making his way to the suet on the left.

I’m finding great comfort in spending time with the birds. I’ve even got my trunk set up like a cafeteria, every-thing ready for me to access when I get to the feeding areas. Some days it is just too cold to be fiddling with seed bags that are still factory sealed, Or get to the suet blocks that are still in their retail packaging.

I have been eyeing some of the cameras and the special lens attachments that the serious cameramen are toting. So far I’ve only gotten to the stage where I am making enquiries .. and talking to them about their equipment. The reality at the moment is that by the time I get to the feeders, asses what needs to be replaced, fill and relocate feeder trays etc. I’m usually dealing with frozen fingers.

My son was over for lunch the other day, he has been working on his piano, taken it all apart and has been rebuilding it so that it has the sound he is looking for. While I marveled at the pictures he was showing me of his piano in pieces… I spied the above picture. “Oh that, just a shovel guitar I built for someone who wanted one.” Excuse me, a shovel guitar!! I’d never heard of one, later when I was telling one of my friends, he knew all about ‘shovel guitars” it seems they are used in certain kinds of music. the chap who had wanted this one, was going to play the “slide guitar” on it. I thought it very creative.

One is never too old to learn. It is actually amazing what creative minds can do.

Have a wonderful evening.. I’m off to see if I can catch any videos with a shovel guitar being used. I did hear a clip being played on the one shown.. it really did have the sound of a slide guitar!!!

Xmas surprise

Action figure Pennywise from the Stephen King movie It

What a hoot. My whole theme this year was action figures and personalities from the world of adventure and super powers. I had not said a word about what I was doing.. so imagine my surprise and delight when I opened my nephews gift to find Pennywise staring back at me. You all know how in September I start gearing up for my creative month of October.. my FUN month. The unexpected is always such a “wow”.

If Santa came your way overnight, and was anywhere where the rain was, he would have been one wet Santa. The rain princess was not happy about having to perform “off season” her performance, at least here in this area, was full all out staccato, it was as if she said, “you want rain, I’ll give you rain” and then just lashed out.

This morning all is calm, not bright, but quiet and very wet. Still very mild too. What I noticed was that the little evergreen that has been sitting there all summer just “sitting”.. seems to have sprouted approx. 12 inches. I hadn’t noticed before. Could be because much of the accumulated snow has been washed away. Whatever, she looks happier. She obviously loved the rain, its perked her up.

From one happy little tree at our house, to everyone out there who is sharing this moment with us, we wish you a very happy and merry Christmas Day.

“To every cloud there is a silver lining” someone said that.. I believe it to be true.

PS. I have been up making dumplings for my son’s lunch, and I’m going to cook turkey and his favourite sausages to go with the dumplings, … I know he should visit more often right =^_^= so… to my friend Bonnie, no I won’t be eating out of a can today =^_^=…

not all trees are adorned

This is a season where emotions run from high to low.

We are blessed with the gift of life. This month is ripe for emotions to be fragile, we have endured a year with a lot of uncertainty. Some of us have a lot of family we haven’t seen or been able to visit with, and now the season that usually brings us together, is here, and we are being asked to – refrain, or cut back on any celebration we may have been counting on.

Music is a wonderful way to share and enjoy time with friends.

look for and find your “happy” and share it. Sharing a happy moment with a friend is very worthwhile. A smile, and/or a kind word, go a long way in making someone else’s day. We may never know the pain, longing and/or suffering another person goes through.

In one of the groups I share time with listening to music, there is one person who is not into “country” and will voice her thoughts if anyone plays a song that could be considered “country”.. … In my world music is music, no matter the genre, it is the message and the feeling that it inspires. We are never all going to be on the same page at the same time. When we refuse to listen or allow others to express themselves .. we miss out on a lot.

It is is in appreciating the unique differences in one another that we learn more about ourselves. Love is universal, a smile works magic. A friendly greeting, from a total stranger, can turn a gray day into one of sunshine.

It is only natural that you are different from others. Each of us has our own way of thinking and our own individual lifestyle. that’s what makes life interesting.

Wednesday moments

The day was sunny and bright when I started out, then it began to cloud. I was surprised at how fast the day went from bright to overcast. What also surprised me was that so many of the houses, store fronts, and businesses, were devoid of Holiday Decor. Unusual, I think this is the first time I have seen the city look so bleak. I heard the weather forecast, it seems there is a big snow storm brewing that will hit the eastern States, they mentioned NY and PA. But, since that same storm is what is affecting us with the cloud cover, it must be a “beauty”. I also heard that Michigan was hit recently with a big storm. You can see from my pictures, there is not much snow in our area. Still I would have expected more Holiday displays during my drive.

Strive to overcome obstacles by changing your mind-frame. Things don’t always go as planned. When that happens, try changing how you look at the situation or how you are doing things. The outcome is in your hands.

breakfast companion

It was raining over the ice covered ground, but still I made my way to the feeding area. I was rewarded with this fella, he was not disturbed by my presence, and I was thrilled that he continued eating away, while I refilled the other feeders. He was a big guy, compared to the one I met later at the other feeder.

this one was shy, he/she stayed pretty much behind the suet.

Offer your services instead of expecting from others. Take the initiative to do what you can to help others. Understand their needs and act swiftly.
