Age- have you noticed how as the years have rolled past, your perception and reaction to the world around you … changed.
In nature, we watch as with the coming of spring, new beginnings take shape, we ohhh and ahhh at the delicate spring blossoms, we watch as the trees begin to send out tender new growth.
In the fall we watch with anticipation as the leaves mature and turn vibrant autumn colours – we go from the pastels of soft pinks, buttery cream petals and fuscia accents to the bold crimsons and golden orange glow of the fall pallet, within weeks, we are looking at a different skyline.
Friends we have known for years, no longer look the same, nor do they present the same way. Life has shaped their outlook as well as yours. Some friendships remain strong, others drift away, “like two ships that pass in the night”.
Boyish charm has given away to a careful neutral expression, one that is friendly but cautious. The giggling shyness of eager anticipation, now is a quiet reserve with a careful scrutiny of what is beyond the facade being presented.
The internet abounds with videos and reels about how to communicate, how to determine sincerity in others. How to watch for elder abuse, how to ensure young minds aren’t being drawn into dark areas of “society” where they can come to harm.,
We live in a world where friendships disappear overnight, and where the past lingers … overshadowing new possibilities… spousal abuse is still a canker in a world where we talk of peace and goodwill.. “we talk” but there is no action.
Hours are spent watching other people’s lives, drama, killings, plotting, infidelity, even during “xmas” when the season is supposedly one of goodwill towards man… is full of deceit and treachery. People spend hours and hours following what is happening in the lives of the characters on the screen. who are all coveting someone else’s wife/ husband etc.or looking for ways to extort or rub out someone else’s existence or livelyhood.
I listened for some time to someone explain the drama of families in another country (a series ) my friend was totally involved in the life situations and happenings of these families. I may watch the telly a total of a few evenings over a period of a year.
Bringing me back to … life is what it is... but.. not one of us .. sees it the same way. and with age… our perception changes. We can never go back.
Trying to hold on, only brings unhappiness and dissatisfaction. Learn to let go…. sounds easy, its not.. but you can do it.
