Bonjour , hallo..13th

I’m not going to add to this… for today, I will meditate and cogitate on  this one.  It is a big lesson and one that I have not  mastered yet.  It is another beautiful day, therefore, it is a perfect day to reflect on why I find this lesson so difficult to follow through on.  Intellectually I understand … hmmm is my mind being lazy again?

c9b295b47598a7147e1d3102a98d815a

Perhaps this will be a tad bit more motivational…  the kitty picture has me wanting to go find a sunny spot to curl up on a cushion and go back to sleep, or grab a short nap.

3e90d593120b21efca1488b464663671

Yes this is better I might not manage a stretch like that…. but I can sure do my own version of a good long stretch.. hmmm just thinking about it has me motivated to go look for my exercise mat.

Have a good day dear friend, drink lots of water, eat your crunchy veggies, and see you soon,  Smile it is contagious.

chicken chop suey

chicken chop suey

Yummy, who remembers when going to a Chinese restaurant meant someone was going to order Chicken Chop Suey,  The other dish that was always ordered by friends was  Chicken Gai Ding, below is Kung Pao Gai Ding, (chicken with peanuts)

Chicken kung pao gai ding

And of course I must not forget the sweet and sour chicken balls.  I never understood where these dishes came from, we never ate such dishes at home.  It wasn’t till I was much older, living away from home and in another part of the world, that I learned how creative Chinese cooks were.  They used ingredients known to locals to create similar dishes to ones eaten at home, but yet totally unlike what we ate, because back then, the ingredients required to cook dishes that were traditionally eaten, would  have been 1 – foreign to the western taste buds, and probably, #2  – ingredients were just not readily available. It is not like today, when you can find Asian necessities in almost any and all major shopping areas.

Chicken balls sweet and sour

Even today, it is not unusual to have to have two menus.  One for the customer who likes the western version of Chinese/Asian cooking, and one for the families who prefer more traditional style dishes.  I have noted though, that the palate and the desire to experience a more traditional dish is /or has become more in vogue.  The pungent and tantalizing aromas that I delight in when I walk into an Asian supermarket, do nothing for my husband, that is what makes people so unique, is that we each and every one of us, has our own reactions to the ambient sounds, smells and visions around us.

Chop Suey is a culinary example of putting food types together to create create a harmonious taste, that will give the eater a pleasant reaction to the blended spices and veggies/meat.  Each culture has their own way of cooking a vegetable or meat so that it reflects their artistry.

We all eat.  Those of us who cook, love the magic that takes place when we stir fry, steam, roast, grill, BBQ etc.  Presentation is part of the craft.  But best of all, it is the pleasure we have when we taste and eat what we have created. When guests or family enjoy what is put before them. its a bonus.

Preparing a meal and then sharing it, is a very special “event”  Meals don’t just happen, we have to plan them.  The love we put into pulling together a meal I believe is a an ingredient that is without  measure.  Love is the ingredient that should be in everything we do and say.

Sometimes life gives us chop suey days…… but if we pull them all together in a way that employs a proactive and loving flavour.  It will melt in our mouths.

You live where?

Switzerland, Vals

I’ve heard the expression, it’s just “a hole in the wall”, but this house in Vals, Switzerlannd, is certainly different.  For sure you are not in view of your neighbours, and you are not disrupting the surrounding landscape.  I also wondered what the view out was…

house,upside down trassenheide Germany

This house is in Trassenheide, Germany, and if you think that it is a stand alone, it isn’t.  There are many more such homes in other parts of the world.  Why anyone would like to live in a house that appears to be upside down, I don’t know, but if you  research it, there are such homes, and people do love them, live in them and enjoy them.

This next picture has nothing to do with houses/architecture, but it is an interesting find.  don’t scroll down right away … see if you know what it is.

body snatching prevention 18th 19th centuries Scotland

The above is called a mortdsafe and is a unique Scottish invention.  It came about in the 18th and 19th centuries to prevent grave robbing.  Scotland  was rampant with body snatching,  thus a way to crate and deter.  Examples have been found close to Scottish medical schools.!!

home, small Japan,Tokyo

This delightful build in Tokyo, Japan, is by architect Yasuhiro Yamashita, crowded cities, with small lots means that creativity is a must.  Home is where the heart is, home is what you make it.  No matter where you live or how you live, it is what or where you chose to be … or why are you there.  We can enjoy other landscapes, we can travel the world, we can fly, take boat cruises, there is a lot to see when we venture outside our familiar environments.  In the end though, no matter where we land, we are always still ourSELVES. No physical distances or weird and unique inventions will take away the fact, that you are who you are.  How you adorn your life, is of no matter, when you look in the mirror, it is YOU, you will see.

Tianzi Mountain, so uniquely tall and thin, they were used by James Cameron in the filming of the movie “Avatar”.  Some of the columns of stone pillars have reached over 4,000 feet above sea level.100e3b47ad44526ead38f80036de9140

Hello, Hallo greetings to you in every way!  Isn’t it a lovely day, we had a new blanket of snow over night.  Everything looks so “winter wonderland” white! Looking out this morning, it was hard to imagine the trees with their fall colours of crimson, gold and multiple shades of russet and fading greens .Being that we are already into January, the days are getting longer, and soon, yes soon, in a couple of months the same trees that are looking like  wooden bark sculptures of gray/browns dipped in  crisp white snow crystals, will be showing off their new dressings of mint & apple greens, buds of tender pale shoots will be breaking through the branches that will have soaked up the nurturing rays of the sun, providing them with the nutrients they need to open up to their full splendor.

The PL calendar today, is about not being swayed by the past.  It says ” It is what you do from now on that count”  Another way of saying to live in the moment.  So much time is often spent on dwelling what was, or what could be, and again, if only….   We can’t relive the past, but we have every opportunity to make each day a day we will enjoy so that come end of day,  we feel that it was a day well spent.

Screen-shot-2012-03-05-at-8.23.43-PM

The internet is abundant in quotes and sayings.  Where do they all come from.  Some are very good and thought-provoking, others….  Again it is all in the eye of the beholder isn’t it.  Today I plan on having a great day… what about you!!

This is not my back yard… LOL…. but I sure wish I could gaze on this vista with my own eyes.  Be there, to hear the water cold and clear slowly  make its way over the rocks.  New Zealand, the more I see of this beautiful country, the more I want to explore.  Maybe someday.  Who knows.  Meanwhile, thanks to you, I get to research and find destinations, we can visually enjoy from our desks.  Life is for sharing, thank you all for allowing me into your homes, I so appreciate you all.

Good Morning… ahhh what to do today…..

shall we lie by the pool, or would you like to stroll the beach.

Look at the clear blue sky, not a cloud in view.

There is just a bit of a breeze,

can you feel and see it rustling the leaves.

Let us spend the day… me and you

even though we are miles apart

welcoming the day with an open heart.

We will each do our part

to cultivate and nurture family, friends and co-workers

so… that no matter where we are,

the inter-action will inspire and make that moment ours.

A sincere sharing, heart to heart.

Bruce Lee

06a537b4f857af7c2c0749b06c256a75

In my younger years, I remembered Bruce Lee as Kato, the actor who played along side the Green Hornet on a television show that I watched on the black and white telly we had, with the one station.  Being Chinese in Canada in years gone by meant you were a an oddity.  You stood out like a sore thumb and there was no way you could not know that you were “different:  from the other people in the community in which you lived.  My Father was a wise man who taught me to live life with appreciation. To accept and do my best to understand the difference we all have, and how unique each individual is.  By seeing those who taunted and rejected me without really knowing me, as a lesson, teachers of another side of a coin if you will. I learned to dismiss their actions as a part of who they were, and to move on.  These same youngsters were soon my playmates.  We are still in contact today.    I have been blessed with knowing that they feel that in getting to know me  they learned about an other culture and how it was a positive in their lives.

During the early years of my practice, martial arts became the “new fad”  The buzz was to take up a discipline and become another “Bruce Lee”.. It was always an honour for me when  young man/woman would come to my door asking for assistance in his/her developement.  NO I was not teaching a Martial Art technique, I was a teacher of the TAO, and worked with students and clients to help them deal with the daily stress they encountered in navigating their lives.

I soon learned that my childhood hero Kato, was Bruce Lee and that he had a lot of things to say about life.  I also learned that he had a huge following.  His wisdom,  dedication and focus on his craft was legendary.

bc3d9a0df3f80e6d654a0a48848454a8There has been so much written about him and his philosophy on life.  You can find all kinds of information by just typing in his name in a search engine, and reams of info will pop up.  I shared his thoughts with you today because so much of it is the wisdom of the TAO and the philosophy I was weaned on.  Asked the other day, why I am now with the Church of Perfect Liberty, my answer is … because it is the teaching of the TAO … that the church embodies.  I’ve lived long enough to know that the TAO is life itself, and not everyone wants to be a warrior, even though if you think about it, we all are in our own way.  What everyone does want is to find peace of mind. We all treasure those moments in our lives when life is uncomplicated and we feel totally at ONE with the world.

Please, allow me one more.. on love. friendship and lasting relationships.  Thank you for sharing this trip down memory lane with me,  You are very special and kind, I truly appreciate your company as I travel along this journey called life.

in box chuckle

Every morning, part of the wake up routine is that before the dogs get fed and let out, I turn on the computer so it can do its thing and be ready for me when i get back into my office.  “efficient use of time”  I feed the dogs, and wander back into the office with my huge over-sized mug of very cold water. This was part of a message I got from a friend today.

!cid_part3_04090709_09020106@shawAt first I just stared at it, humour isn’t one of my strong points, then the funny bone kicked in and …… well …… I couldn’t resist sharing it with you.  There were several such pictures, I’m sure you are all familiar with this type of e-mail.. They must land on in your in- boxes as much as they do mine, probably more so, since I’m known for my lack of humour.  This is the only other one I’ll share with you, because it too, gave me cause for reflection.

!cid_part9_08020704_05070700@shaw

How we start our day, often sets the tone for the rest of the day/night.  If we get up thinking, omg! another day of sunshine and blue skies, it will be soooo hot  outside. and list off all the negatives of how you perceive your day will be… then you are programming your self to look for and “complain” about each new discovery you make.  On the other “paw” if you wake up and see the sun shining on the ice formed on the tree branches outside your window, and enjoy the beauty of the diamond like rays of light that reflect off the ice crystals, and see the floating hazy mist that is drifting by on a blast of wind and think of how nice and crunchy the snow will be underfoot while you trundle off to work, your mood will be much more positive.  When you  greet others you will be more likely to have a happy positive tone in your voice.  Guess what…. a happy greeting and a smile, will reward you with a cheerful nod or greeting back.

c5a363300e0ff83760f63b49e973ec7bOK … LOL this will be a most interesting day… I keyed in crunchy snow, and I got this… a recipe for snow pea pods   It wasn’t what I was looking for but it was so yummy looking .. this dish was grilled but  “me thinks” it will make a great salad.  Cherry tomatoes, Parmesan and GARLIC.  (erecipecards.blogspot.com ) .. below is the crunchy snow.. =^_^=

2d30d78bd2a092f0fd23044004a48993Where-ever you go, what ever you do today, Make it a day you’ll remember,  Make a determined effort to share sunshine and happiness with others.  A wishy washy attitude will not give you a good st art to the day.  Be proactive and positive.  YOU CAN DO IT!

Thank you Miss E for the funnies

Good Morning everyone.

Today I’d like to discuss PL. Principle 2 ” I will not have complaints about others, matters, nor the weather.  Rather I will always be creative and will look for shortcomings in my own thinking and actions.”

23dbee890ee8f315dd46ad9ec995bdf4This is a lesson that I reappears in my life over and over again.  I don’t see myself as a complainer, however, there are times when I feel that my feelings or work is not appreciated.  It is true, that I do things because I want to.  I also love what I do.  why then do I seem to want some kind of feedback, or acknowledgement of my creativity. Please dear reader, understand these are musings.  In Principle 2, as you read above, I am to work at not having complaints about others, yet, there are times when I definitely feel that someone or others are simply not responding to a request I’ve made or given feedback on a subject that pertains to something we share or are both involved in. I ask myself, is it complaining to speak up, put my thoughts and feelings on the table? Or, is it being honest and open about something that bothers me?

092ff6113988efbae0aacf9b5ab8ce4a

PL Principle 6 I will not be stubborn, being captured by my own thoughts.

PL Principle  17, I will not say or do things that hurt others.

PL Principle 14,  I will not have a mind to be lazy, I will not have  complaints while working, nor be overly concerned and complain about others.

f7228d08c02667a7b30883d0c26629de

Some days, when not sure just where to “land”…. when you feel that your head is in one place and your thoughts in another… I do what makes me feel better, I meditate and pray.  I remember that PL Precept 18 reminds me that “Each Moment is a turning Point”

Sodalite

sodalite-rough

If you are a believer in the power of gemstones, their healing properties, then you know of the Sodalite mineral.   Information gathered from folklore, other writing sources gives this mineral alleged powers.  Prior to being tumbled, they mineral looks something like the picture above.  After the rock is tumbled and polished it can look like this palm sized specimen shown below.

palm-sodalite

Favourite for wearing or carrying it close to you, is of course  jewelry.  Because of the various claims, how you use it will depend on what you are wanting from the mineral’s energy force.  Below is a lovely piece set in sterling silver.  since Sodalite is associated with the thyroid, a pendant would be nice, worn on a necklace.  One source lists Sodalite as being helpful when a person is wanting to lose weight.  You can see it is believed to be a very versatile and powerful mineral.

In books on gemstones, Sodalite is said to bring inner peace, if you keep it in your pocket so that it with you at all times and in rooms you spend a lot of time in, the peaceful properties will flow all around you.  A dark stone, it  is interspersed with white calcite.  Largest deposits are from Brazil.  It is said that Sodalite will harmonize the inner being or the conscious and sub conscious mind, promoting peace and harmony. =^_^=  fellow bloggers it is supposed to be extra lucky for writers.  For  those of you who are active in athletic endeavours such as sports that require endurance, Sodalite is the stone for you.

A beautiful display of Sodalite rock in Namibia, also found in the lavas of Vesuvius, Italy.  although massive sodalite samples are opaque, crystals are usually transparent to translucent.  Above photo was taken by Charlie Waite, you can see his work on his web page, http://www.charliewaite.com.

sodalite in natural form

The above natural raw sodalite gemstones were found on etsy.com    Here I know that I can go down to the museum and purchase  another small specimen, that is if I can’t locate what I’ve done with my own pieces.  It was my desire to search out my piece that got me started on this particular blog. =^_^=.    When opportunity knocks open the door!
