We are all unique in our own ways, and we each and everyone of us goes through life trying to understand our selves and the world around us.  It is when we share our dreams and differences, that we learn about someone else, their culture, their world, in doing so, we broaden our own.

love this last picture, hermitage,Qianyuan mountain,Tianhua X, the capture is awesome, peaceful and surreal, did you find the hermitage? (artstation.com)

same to you

china, heaven's gate

This is Tianmen Mountain in China, the road leading to it is often called the road to Heaven, Tianmen Mountain, Zhangiajie is in northwestern, Hunan Province.  It is long and winding, the view is amazing, one can only imagine the work and the planning that went into putting this road through the national park.  Each worker, visitor to this unique part of the world has to be caught up in the wonder of it all.

China rioad to heaven's gate

There is a hike/climb  of approximately 7 miles one can do, to reach the gate itself, (1st picture) if you make that journey the Chinese say, it i the “closest Earth Landmark to God”

China, Tianmen Mountain, heaven's gateThe natural beauty of the place has an almost ethereal feel…. I can only imagine what it must be like to actually be there. In taking in the celestial ambiance of the area, I feel myself slowing down, and letting my thoughts drift into the mist.  Yet to some the hike is among the 10 top adrenaline pumping hiking trails there is.

China, heaven gate hhiking trail

And yes, depending on circumstances, and the people I was with, I would consider doing this hike.  I mean, wow, what an adventure and a heart thumping beyond words experience it would be. We really never know what tomorrow will bring, or where we will be.  Just because we plan something, doesn’t mean it will happen.  I often think of the many times I hear “have a good day” and the automatic response, is  “same to you”.  Do we mean it? and if we do, what are we really saying, a good day to me, might not be a good day to someone else.

Just like these pictures invoke in me a sense of pure delight, they are temptations for my imagination and I longed to share them with you.  But…they may not be your cup of tea, however I can hope that you will  happily indulge me and enjoy my absolute fascination with this place.

China, Tianmen National ParkMy heart was lifted to a smiling place while sharing this with you. I feel transported to a magical place, where all is peaceful and well….  and…. dear reader, my virtual friend, I sincerely wish the same to you.

PL Precept #6

1bb1cbf8f45fae0b59e3c3f8e24c4e10

PL Precept #6 Efface your self conceptions

Show Yourself as You Are.

“What shall I do to give a good impression to others on my first meeting?”

“Show yourself as you are. Just face them with your true self. Then what is my true self? It is simply a selfless, straight-shooting self. When you sincerely pray to God you are doing so with a complete openness without any trace of your showing off. Although you are expressing yourself trying not to show your ego, the integrity of your self will nonetheless show itself naturally and beautifully.”

“Well, I wonder if this will be held in contempt by others?”  “From their point of view, they may try to delude themselves by making a false show of power, and making things appear as good as possible. In fact, the more they try to do this the more they lose their personality, nullifying the art of self-expression. So do not be afraid to be held in contempt by others, but just be yourself – as you are – no more nor less.”

(By The Second Founder)

Good Morning… ahhh what to do today…..

shall we lie by the pool, or would you like to stroll the beach.

Look at the clear blue sky, not a cloud in view.

There is just a bit of a breeze,

can you feel and see it rustling the leaves.

Let us spend the day… me and you

even though we are miles apart

welcoming the day with an open heart.

We will each do our part

to cultivate and nurture family, friends and co-workers

so… that no matter where we are,

the inter-action will inspire and make that moment ours.

A sincere sharing, heart to heart.

enthusiasm – opportunities

aqua dome hotel..Austria aqua-dome.at

This is the Aqua dome hotel in Austria, don’t know about you, but I find it very inviting. Today I watched people jumping into cold water where the ice had been chopped away for the annual polar bear dip (fund-raiser) we are not talking one or two people, there was a large gathering.  All for a good cause, they put on their swim trunks and other festive costumes to jump into the freezing water while a crowd gather to watch the antics.  Weather here was below freezing at the time of day they took the plunge.

I have since learned that this is not uncommon .. the above was the picture of the day 7 December 2012 (Telegraph.co.uk), a winter swimmer drove into freezing waters, Beijing Lake in Shenyang China.

The Huffington Post, posted this picture along with a story on how in an effort to help a family in Missouri, thousands across the country took a dive into freezing waters across the USA.  What kind of determination and hardiness does it take to prompt a person to take this challenge?  In our daily lives we might not take such extreme actions, but we do have to gather our inner strength to tackle some of the difficulties/problems that drop in on us.

This is more “me” – a Japanese Snow monkey settles in to a hot spring  (Jigokudani,Nagano, Japan) for a warm soothing lazy laid back, meditation, (private time).. The enthusiasm in which we tackle our challenges, can often lead to opportunities that bring about positive results into our lives.  Especially when we put our whole effort (Makoto=sincerity) into our actions.

sleeping squirrelA day of activity leaves us tuckered out and ready for a good sleep, especially when we have applied ourselves to the day’s events, living each moment to the fullest….when we finally find that quiet patch, we can easily lie down and effortlessly sleep.

conceit

Present 2

Is conceit one of the traits that you have gift wrapped under your tree? The Second Founder of PL, (Perfect Liberty) in one of his lessons taught that  gold is gold and iron is iron.  I’m simplifying it, in essence, if you have a piece of iron and try to disguise it as gold, no matter what you do, it will always be, iron, and vice versa.

When I was younger, I was very drawn to the “best” of what I could afford,  Designer labels filled my wardrobe, my credit cards were worn thin.  One day I realized that only I knew what I was wearing, and really, only I cared.  I meditated on that, I learned early in life I had a very big component of conceit in my makeup.  It has been a consistent bit of homework to tame the conceit and “tad” of arrogance in my character.

We are blessed with gifts from “above“, they are not “ours” they are given to us to share with the world to help and improve the lives of others.  A sincere thank you, and smile go a long way in showing our appreciation when something is done for us. AND, if we have the means and ability to do something for someone else, that we do so with makoto (sincerity).

1d77090d8ef05a94377137a108c0690b

The simplicity of years gone by has been replaced with a lot of hype and a must have society.  However, each person we meet is dealing with a myriad of issues, try to listen not only to what is said, but to the spaces between the words.

5fb409a9b267bbbc26da3bc3a9182fb2

Try calling instead of sending a text message.  We are losing the personal contact that was so present in past years.  Love and a peaceful heart, begin by accepting ourselves, in accepting ourselves, and loving ourselves, we are then able to  reach out and accept/respect the differences in others.  Peace on earth, is possible only if and when we genuinely love one another.

October eve

10.30.14_002

The month of October had so many themed events.  The stores were costumes were being sold were crowded almost every day of the week. It is amazing how many people get into the “spirit” of Halloween. We see on the telly streets where people have invested time and money decorating and producing gigantic themed sets around their homes.  It is a competition on whether Halloween or the Xmas season brings out the creativity in the “set designers” in the communities.

Who do you want to be?  How will you dress up for the party?  Do you deviate from your regular look, or do stick pretty much to outfits that compliment your everyday persona?  October is a month for adults/grown ups to really “play” at being someone else.  I personally find it difficult to be anything other than the person I am.  That said, I have many “sides” to my personality, certainly over the years, I’ve had opportunity to live out a number of my “passions”  As a Taoist, I do not believe in labels, or limiting myself.  I believe that in life we can be and do anything we set our minds to do.  If we can’t do something it is because we have not motivated ourselves into wanting to do it.  i.e. if you are a smoker, no one can make you stop smoking, it has to be something you yourself want to do, and act accordingly.

I recall in an early part of my life, being with someone who held me responsible for his bad moods or failure to enjoy himself.  LOL you are right if you guessed that this person did not remain in my life for very long.  It didn’t happen overnight, some times we are deaf, dumb and blind to our own circumstances. It is in living through the challenges we are given that we become  more in tune with our own needs and wants.

Beauty is not about visual appearances, but rather in the kindness we show others, the sincerity of our actions, and the gift of appreciation we have for life itself.

Fall is a time of year when the world is full of colour.  Let your light shine… be the “star” you are.

Inspiration…

03d9bbff-2085-49ec-bb83-2f1359c6261e

Inspiration comes to us in many guises … this picture from a clip on “things one sees only in India” had me reaching for pad and pencil.  That donkey looks pretty relaxed… considering… my dogs trust me, but if I tried to get one to ride on a motorbike with me in such fashion, I don’t know how laid back they would be. In fact I doubt that anywhere here in Canada could someone get away with riding such a small bike with two adults and a good size animal.  The gentleman is happy, seems like an everyday occurrence to the onlooker.

019940-sparky-the-miniature-donkey

This was a story on a rescue of a miniature donkey (Herald Sun, Jan. 18.2010 – Kelly Ryan)  the picture of contentment.  born the size of a small beagle, a miniature donkey will not grow as big as a great dane, and will weigh in at 130kg.  Animals inspire me, they are guileless. Life is!

75435dcad87de4f928fa3669bd5b7f94

Some of their expressions are priceless.  When I am inspired, I feel it, there is an excitement within, a connection to a power that transcends words/logic, it simply is.  Other writers, artists, creators, tell me the same, we don’t sit down and say this is what we are going to do, we may have an idea, but when it gels, or takes “definition” we are often just as surprised as everyone else at what we have accomplished.

When listening to a good musician do a set, something he has done over and over for months on end, its good. but when he looses himself in what he is playing and simply “let’s go” there is a difference to the song/melody the music takes on a life of its own, it happens when man, the instrument and the music come together as one.  It is amazing.  When we try to force a thought or idea, we might communicate a message, but when it is allowed to flow and happen with sincerity and love, the message will be totally different.  Received a  lot differently too.

Mother and child. Jonathan Palmer 4/7/06

Affection is a very important part of life. A warm hug from a loving friend, a smile of recognition across a crowded room,  saying hello to a stranger who looks tired and alone… often we are polite, but are we caring, do we care?  Do we have or need affection in our lives?  Now is the perfect time to show those we care about, that we do really and truly care…. I close my eyes and hug each and every one of you.. Know you are loved.

Monkey Wisdom

5fd07f4457e65d44a8ad8a32328a6205

I have Rev. Goto (NY PL church) for this expression.  He had my complete attention today while explained to the members PL Principle #9. I will not have a mind to be dishonest.  The set of 21 Principles are there for us to help us live our lives following the 21 Precepts.  Today Rev. Goto talked about Principle #9. He always like to give us an example of the lesson so that we better visualize and understand the teaching.  Like all good teachers, he doesn’t talk forever, he says what he has to say, and then cheerfully leaves us with an embedded image and lesson to ponder and assimilate.

He related a story to us that came to him through another PL Minister, Rev. Ono.  The story takes place years ago, in a different time.  An elder in a small viillage decided to organize a festival that would take place in the square at the village shrine.  For the occassion he had asked that everyone come with one item of food, and one bottle of sake (Japanese rice wine)

This was a time before bottled sake, villagers made their own sake, and kept it in traditional jars or containers made f wood or ceramics.  The idea was that each villager would bring a container of their sake, and it would be poured into one large sake barrel, for the enjoyment of the community.  This ‘sake cocktail” would be a sharing and each member participating would be honoring their fellow neighbours.

Once the mixture was prepared, the party started.  The village elder took a sip from the barrel to start the festivities, took a sip, and stood back in surprise, calling out…”oh m God, what is wrong with the sake?  It tastes like water!”    Hmmmm. how could sake turn into water?  It was clear that the sake had not changed into water, but that it had been water in the first place.  Each guest at the party who was to bring sake, had decided to bring water instead.  It was a precious commodity, and they thought no one would notice.  However,  they were not the only ones to have that thought and to act on it.  Monkey wisdom… since the majority thought to be deceitful, the few who did bring sake, had their sake diluted by all the water.

When we live with a pure and honest mind, our actions and our thoughts bring a joy and satisfaction to what we do, for us and those around us.  We should live with one mind, a mind that says “there is nothing to hide between God and myself”  Just because you think no one is looking or will know, God knows.

This story although told with humor, shows us that as humans our ego does not always motivate us in the “right” direction.    All people have a mind capable of thinking in a manner that is not always “honest” –  Let us do our best to live with a mind that will apply makoto (sincerity) to being honest in all we do and say.

Happy Wednesday everyone

8e762f049beeda055218f4a0ea60b275

What is it that attracts me to old trucks, cars, motorcycles, and bikes?  I haven’t a clue.  In recent years I’ve noticed that more and more I am drawn to pictures where one or more are featured.  Driving along hwy 37 in NY State past farms with old barns, I found myself searching for sight of a rusted out car.  More in the States than along the highways here, I’m rewarded by vintage vehicles being driven or for sale.  Some are covered in rust and barely standing, yet they have an allure for me.

29b5190f28d9f4988f7b82df099b5d95

Be still my heart, how this rusted decaying, bucket of metal can stir my emotions, I’ll never know.  But how I love to look at it.. the vibrant colours that takes place as it goes through its changes.  the way nature welcomes it back into her embrace.  So far I’ve only been able to gaze in wonder at the wonderful pictures I’ve found posted on Pinterest or other social media sites.

be8299b07b9b017d7a09eb148e2c31ac

These are the colours I want to wear this fall.  In redoing my fall/winter wardrobe, I am searching out these colours.  There is something rich and satisfying about this palette, in the States I have been able to acquire a pair of old faded and worn, army fatigue pants and the matching long sleeve lite. jacket/shirt.  Obviously I can’t wear then at the same time, I look ridiculous since, I’m obviously not of an age that I would be in service, but the blended colours are soothing to the eye, and calming when worn with colours that harmonize. (mixed casual attire)  So, I’m eccentric, I’m happy =^_^=.

019edc70b1a6668c88e328b9c122b952

I am not alone with this old truck/car passion, there is an abundant source of art pictures that capture the beauty of the aged vehicles. Enjoy whatever makes you happy today and everyday.  When we do something we enjoy with Makoto (sincerity) we reap the rewards 100 fold.  Have you thought about the colours you wear and why you wear them?
