When the Lakota leader Sitting Bull was asked by a white reporter why his people loved and respected him, Sitting Bull replied by asking if it was not true that among white people a man is respected because he has many horses, many houses? When the reporter replied that was indeed true, Sitting Bull then said that his people respected him because he kept nothing for himself.” –Joseph Bruchac – Photograph: Orlando Scott GoffGoodSitting Bull, Lakota leader

Good morning everyone, I found this in my research today.  It was posted 4 years ago on the Parabola (The Search for Meaning) site on tumblr.

How well said, and so simply .. it brings us back once more to the individuality of each of us, and how our cultures shape our thinking.

However that said, we are not back living in a time when the differences were not known, researched, studied, and documented.  This is 2016 an electronic age, we can sit in our homes and watch documented reports of what is going on around us.  There are thousands of published reports, books, magazines, videos and spoken story books.  There is no reason for us to not know about our neighbours.

“Before our white brothers arrived to make us civilized men, we didn’t have any kind of prison.
Because of this, we had no delinquents.
Without a prison, there can be no delinquents.
We had no locks nor keys and therefore among us there were no thieves.
When someone was so poor that he couldn’t afford a horse, a tent or a blanket, he would, in that case, receive it all as a gift.
We were too uncivilized to give great importance to private property.
We didn’t know any kind of money and consequently, the value of a human being was not determined by his wealth.
We had no written laws laid down, no lawyers, no politicians, therefore we were not able to cheat and swindle one another.
We were really in bad shape before the white men arrived and I don’t know how to explain how we were able to manage without these fundamental things that (so they tell us) are so necessary for a civilized society.”

Just some food for thought to go along with your coffee.  I find it extremely interesting and thought provoking that no matter who we are, or what our backgrounds are, we ALL strive for peace  and want it in our lives.

English proverb

I have the huge honor of sometimes getting to read a Sr. Minster’s words, I’m always left with a new way or a different perception of one of the Perfect Liberty Percepts.  This minister lives in another country, so it’s not like I can just pick up and attend one of his services. When I have heard him, his messages have been insightful.

That is one of the ways we learn in life, by listening.  Not only to being aware of our own adventures, and understanding the values we learn and the blessings we receive.  We learn by “listening” paying attention, to verbal and non verbal communications that come our way.

Part of the PL culture is sharing our blessings and challenges.  We call them testimonies.  It hasn’t really caught on here in Canada, but in South America, and Asian countries, ie. in particular Japan, where PL was born, standing up and sharing what your faced during your week, or that day, and what you learned, not only acts like a cleansing in a way, but it gives others an insight on something in their own lives, that they relate to or with.

One of the Precepts that I have worked on and I imagine I will continue to work on, is PL Precept #4   Being Annoyed limites your expressions.

Or if you wish.. PL Precept #5, One’s Self is lost by being emotional.

The Sr. Minister, tells of how when he and his wife were travelling to a special event, they had a long way to travel, and he was driving fast.  He was doing 74 mph on a hwy that was usually 65 mph.  However he missed when it changed to 55 mph, and guess what.. he got a speeding ticket.  AND when he was stopped, the police officer gave him a notice .. the ticket and fine etc would follow.  We had a very unhappy Sensei.

In PL we reflect on what happened, and why……….what Precept we were not following.

In this case, he and his wife during the trip, had one of those marital moments we all know if we have ever coupled, where a quarrel happens and the response to that is silent stewing. He was not paying 100% on what he was doing,   Refer back to PL#4 and PL# 5.

19 miles over the limit, the disharmony cost him $211.

In telling of this expensive lesson, a church member said,  “you are lucky, 19 miles over the limit means you lost 4 points. Had you been going 1 mile more over the limit 20, you license would have been suspended.    Your insurance premiums will likely be affected in the next 3 years!… but here is a good thing to know, If you take a course at the traffic school, 4 points will be reduced, this would reset your points.”  Sensei was very happy to learn this,  the member was very kind to have explained this to him.

In this experience, Sensi learned a lesson, in sharing it, he was blessed with information he had not had before.  “Life depends on how we accept things”   PL Precept # 16  All things progress and develop.

Push to Stop

downloadIf you drive you know all about the emergency brake, and how and when  to use it.  But what about own behaviour, do we have the owner’s manual handy for our “self-control”  Do we know where it and how to employ it when a situation or circumstances get out of hand,

We have all had moments when we have been confronted with an angry person, we’ve seen the facial signals, the change in body stance, perhaps you’ve had such instances yourself where you’ve felt the anger build, and you simply want to vent.c018a42c5663032a6d95b8e50e52d216Shove off…………… Stay off my patch …………….. leave me alone ………………..you are ticking me off ………………. I said NO !  For sure we know this is not the face of kindness, or an invitation to come closer for a hug.  This “Being” is clearing expressing his/her mood at the time of the picture.

2f1cfd49184635960b0f6f4960355bbaNor is this a sign of wanting company, or your interference.   Very clear signs, why do we ignore them, think we know best, or want to have our needs met when the other person is unresponsive.  Someone once said to me, when her  spouse had just such a face… “I don’t understand, I’m happy and want him to be happy”  We are not always on the same page at the same time.  And another person’s mood may have absolutely nothing to do with us.  Respecting someone else’s space is so very important,  in all relationships/ interactions. family, friends or otherwise.

Donald has the right idea  here, this is the “talk to the hand” signal… It means, stop, I no longer want to listen, “talk to the hand”  A friend once explained this to me, I’d never seen it before.  She was a manager of an office, and had to listen to a lot of flack at times, when she had enough, she would raise her hand, like Donald is doing, and we would know, she’d reached her limit.. it said give me a break, come back another time..  I’ve used this over the years, it saves a lot of grief. gives all parties a chance to just chill, reflect and calm down.

Find your emergency brake and when you need to use it… Please do so… activate it….  spare others around you that negative moment that is yours to alone to own.

a0e4e764dcLove is unconditional, we are loved no matter what our mood, or actions are.  It is just easier for everyone when we learn to take ownership of our actions, and discover an appreciation  for a quieter state of mind.

Isolation

X @ inspire park_001After reading what another blogger had shared with me via her blog, I meditated on what she said, and what others wrote.  Topic was that of isolation, Isolation brings to mind a couple of adjectives   When I was in hospital once, due to the physical  symptoms  my body was having after eating at a restaurant I was placed in isolation, (quarantine).  This meant that I was set apart from others on the floor, but I was not alone, although the walls around me meant I didn’t get to see anyone else on the floor, I knew there were other patients on the ward.  I was never really alone either because there was always  a nurse or technician hovering or doing something to me or around me.

When I traveled during the time in my life when I was going to various places on work, or assignments,, I did so on my own. Stayed in cities where I knew no one. In theory I was alone, yet I was always surrounded by people, so is that alone?  When speaking at a large gathering, addressing an auditorium full of people, I would stand alone at the podium, that was not isolation, but I was apart from the crowd.  Words and perspectives are interesting aren’t they. In my friend’s case she was talking about her life and family, and her first hand experience with the world of autism.  Please see  the following link to read Ann’s blog  autism. http://annkilter.com/2014/03/05/battling-isolation/

Some of us make the choice to live in seclusion, or to be private, other times the Universe, places us in situations where the isolation is not of our own making, still we are here for a reason, the key to understanding and achieving is to “listen” “learn” and take the next step,   There is a time for action and a time for rest. We are NEVER alone, we may choose to think we are, but ALWAYS we are connected to the GOD/Tao .  GOD is LIFE.

It is my pleasure to introduce to you another member of PL

Perfect Liberty is an International church, therefore members who will share with us, at times will do so in both their languages.  I do not change their words, or thoughts, but share them with you as they are offered.  I love PL so much because as a community we share and grow with the encouragement and support of not only the ministers but fellow members.  The Japanese terms are commonly used in PL,  You should be able to find the words and their meanings on our website, (link on right)  However I will work them in if I can do so without changing the expressions of the writer

Meet Harry  (USA), Harry attended Kyososai (the celebrations I wrote about in August)  this past July/August.   =^_^+ in fact, you will see Harry carrying the Canadian Flag for Canada (he became an honorary Canadian to help me out!  True gentleman!!)(see prev. blog)

This was a fun picture taken when we met the actors who perform in the PL children;s theater

Harry and cat

Each Kyososai is unique and every year is distinct with the mix of different people
attending. Often for me I try to absorb as much as I can all that goes on at Holyland
during my stay there. The whole time spent there is the rensei training, not just the
official part of the program …. Listening to lectures, taking every opportunity to pray at
the himorogi, conversing, sharing testimonies with the Brazilian members, breathing the
air and working up a sweat just being outside.
But reality hits when I get back from the Holyland. I always seem to receive my
blessings thru Mishirases and intuitions that that help me realize my short comings, last
year it was a nasty bladder infection that haunted me from getting good rest and sleep.
It’s like god is giving me another chance – blessing and salvation after my prayers at the
Himorogi. This year it was a flu symptom that bothered me physically, but also the way
my wife told me what a pest I was to her. I never thought I was a pest probing and
inquiring about what she did and did not do. I always thought I gave her a lot of latitude,
but apparently not. My mishirase brought me to church and the consultation for
oyashikiri helped me realize that I needed to back off and give her more space and not to
probe unnecessarily. It was the words my minister spoke that triggered my intuition. I
have always prayed to try to understand my wife and I never could, I was being a pest
and suffocating her. All this time I could not realize that my actions were killing her
spirits. Thank you, Oshieoyasama.

God Resides in Your Prayerful Mind

PL teaching for day 13 – God Resides in your Prayerful Mind. In addition to making heartfelt and continuous effort, let’s pray to God. God will surely respond to your Makoto (sincerity)

I would like to share with you a couple of sentences from the chapter Life is Art from our PL member’s guide ” Your Artist Expressions Are what Makes Your Life a Work of Art” . As a living person, you interact with the people and things around in order to express your feelings. your life is shaped by the way you express yourself each and every day. Through your daily artistic expressions, you can create your one and only life.”
I have found since becoming a member of PL that I am soaking in the writings of other members who have put together booklets to help new members understand what the Church of Perfect Liberty is all about. I love sharing our faith -(such sharing is called Shingei) . Each day is a new canvas,  just when I think I couldn’t be happier, I read more of the teachings and “life”: gets even better
.
PL teaching for day 13 – God Resides in your Prayerful Mind.

Thank you for sharing this moment with me. Oshieoya-sama teaches us that the surest way to be blessed is to appreciate all the blessing we have received. Living in Perfect Liberty I feel very blessed.
