a little treasure

Weak tired and weary, I took to my bed early. The activities of yesterday had drained me physically, and left me wanting to do nothing but take myself to bed. I was almost settled in, when I heard my phone ping. Usually I have it turned off, or down but I hadn’t done it yet. I checked my Instagram since that was the last app I’d used. Walloping kadoodle.. Num had posted these pictures of an ermine he’s spotted in the woods. I was so excited I got up and came into my office to see them on the big screen. I had to write him and congratulate him on his captures. I’ve seen them now a couple of times, they are fast, they move with the speed of light and are so agile and graceful… that he was able to capture this little one with three good pictures .. I was delighted, couldn’t wait to send him a message. Thank you Num you are amazing.

Isn’t she/he just the most darling of creatures. The one I’ve seen has been at Dewberry in the east end, if I recall he found this darling in the west end. I had been heading for Sarsaparilla trail on my way to church but had gotten sidetracked, and ended up at Beaver Trail. Ottawa is a delight for nature & wildlife photographers, we have dozens of woodlands, forests and green spaces within and all around the city.

It’s Okay! God is watching over you. things turn out for the best. Don’t be captured by momentary troubles but continue doing everything with sincerity.

succulent you say!

photo Shirley Keen, NZ

Succulents, I remember when they were a passion and I scoured every nursery around for miles to acquire another variety for my indoor garden. Where I live in Canada, they were an indoor plant, could be put out in the summer months but for sure had to come back in come fall and winter. Eventually I moved on, but I still stop and admire them when I see them being offered in the plant section of a shop I’m in.

Interests, hobbies, change over the years, at least for me they have. I always said, I don’t have time for hobbies, but I am sure that friends who have been around me for years, will rolls their eyes and simply give a snort, should I be heard giving voice to such a statement now. Of course I don’t see all my creative interests as a “hobby” I see them as simply a part of my every day .. a way of expressing a thought, expression or to make “statement”. Words, can be so ambiguous. Mean one thing to one person, and something else entirely to someone else.

I think I am a visual person, I like to create with my “tools” for the visual results. Yet someone will argue, you are a writer, you love words and use words to create and tell “stories”. hmmmm that is true, I do that. Still I think I lean more towards being a visual person. Any thoughts on this? Are words not visual?

Today is Sunday, we have service at 10 a.m. with LIMITED capacity. I know Rev. Eugene sent out a notice earlier in the week, for those of you who will not be attending physically due to the limited physical seating, please join us in prayers this morning, from the comfort of your homes. If you are able to connect to the service in Brazil, use the link provided by the church Hokyoshi and enjoy!

Do everything willingly and joyfully. Your upbeat attitude will make things more cheerful and enjoyable.

normal

endless hours of work

What is “normal” is different for each individual. Everyone has a different way of thinking and doing. It’s important to understand others feelings.

the road ahead

We’ve all been on such a road, it goes somewhere, but we don’t know where. It is not open to traffic, you want to see what is at the end, you have to hoof it (walk) or bicycle. Fortunately for me, a young man and his charge came along on bikes, because my feet were draggin.. I flagged him down, did he know this road, and yes he did. “how far do I have to go till I reach the end?” “See up ahead, around the curve?”

he pointed up to where the above road barriers were .. you can just make them out in the first picture.

“When you get to the bend, the road will change from pavement to gravel, you will be about half way” Wow, I was going to be late for my 10:30 – 11 a.m appointment, I would have to turn back. No way could I manage to do the whole walk and get back in time.. besides my legs were telling me I’d already been doing enough walking for the day.

obviously at one time, this was a well travelled road. but no more. It is all part of the NCC green space now.
you can see remnants of old fences now.. once all the growth starts to happen, this may not be so visible.

As I walked back to my car, I wondered how it must have been, likely there had been animals out in the pastures that are now slowly being over taken with vegetation again. I saw a lot of creeks and water beds.. it will be fun to explore on another day.

This area, where the blocked off road is, is not the part of Dewberry where most of the hiking, snowshoeing, X-cross country is done. But I’m told the rewards are worth the walk, especially in another few weeks when there will be flowers a lot of interesting vegetation at another observation deck that has been built out over the water.. Trick is you got to get there, and it is a hike. Hiking through the trails is walking on trampled earth, the terrain is very different, this walk along the road, is just that.. you are walking on a paved road. I’ll tell you about the unpaved part when I actually get to do it.

Thanks for sharing this part of the journey with me.

We are all wonderful in our own way… Although results are important, your effort is what is truly precious.

he was a long way from me.. but I did manage to get a picture before he took off on me.

listening

How many ways are there to listen. Visiting with a friend the other day, we were talking of the pandemic and how in today’s world so many children are growing up seeing their grand parents only at a distance, My friend in particular has grandchildren that during this past year, she has had the pleasure of seeing only a few times in comparison to prior to the pandemic, the closures, shut downs, lock downs.. restrictions.

Got me to thinking. When I’ve been out I’ve watched the people around me, in the shopping areas, the parks, most of the time .. distance is being maintained. I have heard that in some areas that has not always been the case, but I’ve been lucky … places I’ve been … people are careful… they do their best to maintain a “social” distance.

As I visited with another friend through social media what came up was how the interaction between couples has also changed. This caught my attention because another friend and I had talked about just such a subject not that long ago. I am a digital photographer in a virtual world as those of you who follow me know, I am fortunate to have friends who will help me out when I want to express a visual feeling/emotion that presently in day to day life I cannot do. My friend agreed to sit with me for a moment in a pose that shows affection between a young couple. It was to be for another post (for me) on listening. His input was valuable to me… he said.. it is someone listening when his/her partner has come home from work, stressed, tired, and she/ he is attentive and not only listening but connecting with a warm embrace.

Living alone since my husband died, I of course had forgotten such a time. I learned from my friend about something I myself had forgotten. The intimate personal moments between a couple, that are about showing kindness, caring, and that special moment when one can BE together, in a moment of sharing. A moment that can erase and make a big difference in how the rest of the day will proceed.

My friend was gracious in giving of his time so I could capture a photo to share with you (my wonderful readers) I was fulfilling a task on my “get it done” list. But in those few moments, he opened my eyes to something that was dormant and gone from my life. That is what listening is all about, being present, so that each and every moment we live it is an experience.

We are living with restrictions, and we are being asked to maintain a distance, but I ask you all to not forgot the importance of touch, the meaning of a soft embrace, the holding of hands. Every where, we are being told keep away, stay away, don’t see people. But as a human being, we do need to experience and know love.. when you can and when its right, let someone you love, know.. you care. Find a way.

Today’s calendar -THE PAST LEADS TO NOW AND NOW LEADS TO THE FURTURE. LIFE IS AN ACCUMULATION OF MOMENTS, CHERISH EACH ONE.

BE SAFE..

Sarsaparilla Trail

Num Ottawa

See why I treasure my photographer friends.. I was at Sarsaparilla Trail this morning, this is where I had my wonderful morning walk. This is where I met Num months back when he graciously gave me permissions to use some of his photos.. I really admire these photographers who in the middle of all the wonderful wonders that abound in the woodlands, they can find and capture such wonderful pictures. Doesn’t this little guy have the cutest face! thank you Num!!

I’m like the hound dog, nose to the ground, keen and wide eyed with anticipation of the hidden mysteries from beyond =^_^=

It is our differences that make us unique individuals, and allow for the wonderful panorama of sights and sounds that we can feast on in our daily living. Celebrate the journey… Enjoy life as it is presented to you. Always there is a lesson to be learned.

The past leads to now and now leads to the future. Life is an accumulation of moments! Cherish each one

Monday 1st March

when the spotlight is on you and you are not sure just what to do or say – it happens –

Today, I’m told about conversations on Zoom, Skype, and other media venues… There is no need to leave the house, you sit down, open up your technology and visit. It has been a year, and many have changed their way of living in this vibrant world. They leave home, get in a car, drive to a shop, store, or retail pick up destination, maybe a medical/dental appointment, but … the social world they had has all but disappeared.

new beginnings

Golden Bay, NZ by Shirley Keen

My sincere thank you to all who joined in last evening for 7 pm Evening Service. I admit that as I prepared, I asked myself, “why”… but … the moment passed and at 7, I began the service. I sat for some time after, allowing my emotions and thoughts to empty. I guess the events of the past many months has taken more of a toll on me, than I had imaged. The service and the prayer, were a balm .. I slept last night, with ease. I really do believe in the power of prayer. When this is shared, it is even more “powerful”

a relaxed whippet

Ok so maybe I didn’t sleep quite as relaxed as Velcro, but I did sleep, it was a sound and restful sleep. First in a long while.

Make today a different day. Instead of doing the same old thing, be creative and do things to improve your day.
