Doors – wood

I was inspired today by Dan’s post on the beautiful wooden door he made out of a piece of wood he found at a wood working show. Back many years ago, I discovered I had a passion for wood, and carving, A friend was an excellent carver, he would carve something out of pieces of wood he would find, it was inspiring that he could bring the wood to life. To my surprise I’ve since learned that he no longer has a passion for the craft. But the love of the craft for me has lived on.

The love of wood has stayed with me over the years, whenever I travel I look for exotic or different kinds of wood … I’m totally fascinated by what nature does on her own with the never ending displays she puts on with the trees, their form, the way the bark can take on a life of its own, how the elements bend and shape the landscape… and doors are part of that passion. Wooden doors. I found the door you see above on one of my travels.. I wanted to bring it home, sand it down and carve it. I had no way of getting it home, I no longer had my truck. By the time it would take me to find a way to transport it, and find my way back to the location where the door was… it was a dream.. I kept the picture.. “in case”

Dan I’m green with envy you got to work with that piece of wood. I love the smell of the wood when we work on it. In fact, after I finish this little blog, I’m going to go in search of my tools. I still have a couple of pieces I bought many moons ago in a small village when I searched out exotic woods for my friend to carve. Funny I never wanted to let them go.. I just moved them from one storage place to another, always in my “office/studio”

Your door has reopened one for me… That is what doors are all about… can you see how beautiful that door would have been had it had some love and attention.

Good morning, welcome to a small town along the highways as I made my way towards Valleyfield, Quebec.

.I looked up and saw the door leading …out to no where – then I spied this old concrete structure with the wonderful wrap around veranda.. it must have been a great vantage point for the town parades in the days of its past glory. I am thinking it could have been the village general store.., It was a delightful find.

Today’s thought -reflection.

Improve yourself to have a kinder heart

Here is something else to think about. The other day my neighbour said to me ” soon we won’t be able to enjoy a banana” .. when I Iooked puzzled she said.. “no seeds in the watermelons, no seeds in the bananas, our food is being so manipulated (GMO) there are no seeds to carry on the wonderful fruits and vegetables as we knew them. Sure enough, when I got home, my watermelon, had no seeds, not one. and…. I’m told you have to pick where you get your bananas, they are not always enjoyable to eat (texture)

WE are able to enjoy this post this morning, because a wonderful technician spent hours removing a nasty virus from my PC. I am so blessed to have friends with gifts/talents that are just out of my skill set. Thank you Wes.

Ron who is exploring Europe. shared the doors with us.

For those who have asked for info. on the ride that took pace last week-end, I’m working on it.. it was in doing research yesterday that my PC was blind sided with a nasty virus.

Last but not least, foodies out these, anyone else had cod livers packed in cod oil?

Bom dia, how are you today. It’s Thursday (quinta-feira)… Today’s quote is from the 2021 PL Calendar. Not having an English calendar this year (from headquarters in Japan) has been very worthwhile. I have had to resort to perusing all previous years from my files to use PL motivational quotes to share with you each day. it’s been a positive experience.

Let’s being today with a smile, Let’s start the day with a positive outlook, looking forward to what we can discover. (PL2021.12)

There is something about buildings that were built in years gone by…especially the old wooden structures.. and the old churches. I have a lot of infill builds happening in my neighbourhood. Somehow they lack the warmth and character of “older” builds. Those of us who have been taking pictures of buildings/doors/windows… architecture in general… our “vaults” are full of “historical” visions of the past.

Because

Because… I bought a pizza doesn’t mean I have to eat it

Because… I have bread in the breadbox.. doesn’t mean I have to eat it

Because… there is a supplement on my counter… doesn’t mean I have to take it

It is an ah-ha moment when you realize that you are doing something… because….of a negative

Because the reality is.. you don’t want to XYZ it is only because over time. you have been told you SHOULD be doing …this… that… etc… it is in your best interest….

Being aware that what “others” think I “should” be doing, saying, thinking… is their reality. Not mine.

and I am happiest when I am doing the whatever’s I like/want to do…

Sometimes, the door we want access to ..is there.. we can see it… but even if we get to it, we can’t go anywhere….. because… nature has conspired against you. You are at a standstill till help comes.

Time…. patience …. moments come and go …. always there is change … what is constant, is … NOW..

Don’t give up! Keep at it until you accomplish what you’ve started. The key to achieving something is to stick to it. If you are able to continue something from start to finish you will be sure to accomplish it no matter how difficult it is. (PL2014.5)
