the tree that was

Q sculptureWhen we first moved to where we live now .. I had a blank canvas to work with (landscape).  I enjoy a white birch, so I planted a young 5 footer  in a corner of our property… Every year i watched it grow and blossom into a beautiful graceful shade giving tree.  Have you ever heard how a breeze can create the sweetest of sounds as it dances its way through the branches and leaves?  It is the softest of whispers.

birch, waterclolor -The first snowfall by aud Rye

This is a water color done by the artist, Aud Rye called “The first Snowfall” (chrisbeckstudio.blogspot.com)

Artist love to paint, sculpt, photograph, landscape with it, it is a tree that has its own flair, and character.

Used in a garden or landscaped setting, the birch provides a contrast to the vivid color of the flowers, and/ or the many shades of green that are planted around it.

Even in the winter its sculpted beauty is a welcome sight,

We lost our birch to some kind of disease, for whatever reason, it just started fade, the leaves fell away, till eventually even the branches began to show their desire to move on, I was told nothing could be done. I had watched that tree grow from a young sapling to a princess, but one does have to let go and let nature do what it must.  So… I cut it down so that only the stems remained and using sculpting materials, I used it as a base for the outdoor garden structure you see  in the first photo.

For several more years .. it had a place of honor in the garden.. while its core disintegrated .. the weather meanwhile kept changing the face of the sculpture… with each passing season,I saw how the changing temperatures and many rain and snow storms took its toll.

Now in the garden we still have an arm of the tree here and there placed in different corners of the garden so that when I come across them I’m reminded of what was.  To visitors they are whimsical pieces, faces emerging from the greenery, to me, they are part of all that I am.

Some of my pieces are posted on Pinterest, those that I still have, and some that of course I no longer have because they were sold or adopted,…. but always over the years, i get word, or a reminder, of another time and place in my life.  Like today, when I got a notice that  the above picture of my expression had been repinned twice. and liked.

When we do something, say something, we don’t always get immediate feedback, but know … please believe me… each and every thing we do… has a consequence.  The timing may not be what you want or expect, but nature travels, works in its own way, Nature is always in motions, Nature/God is always with us.. we need only be aware and listen.

Enjoy each moment of your day, cherish the experience the adventure of life.  Embrace your creativity.  Life is Art.

The air,  fresh and clear holds promise

the moment is as  soft as the morning dew

one moment spent truly with you

one single moment of feeling you in my heart

a connection so pure, so strong

nothing, nothing at all feels wrong

when you, dear God are with me

Out of nowhere, when I least expect it

I will see a flower and know the wonder

of all that you are

I pray today, that I will never miss your call

for I know that it is easy to fall

When I get lost and too involved

yet always, you are here,

winter,spring, summer and fall.

Good Morning everyone!

Amen

There are more quotes, sayings and motivational posters out there then one can count or keep track of.  The bottom line, and the simplicity of life is that we, and we alone, are the masters of our own destiny. Own your life, take responsibility for what you’re faced with, deal with it, no one else can do it for you.

Happiness is a state of “Being” and that is where I like to be.  When I find that for whatever reason, I’m drifting from that “state” I’ve learned that I am the only one who can reclaim my inner smile.

Happiness is a habit I’m not willing to give up!

Tarantula nebula

Astronomy, tarantula nebula 170000 light years away

This is Tarantula nebula, it is 170,000 light years away nestled within the Large Magellanic Cloud, which be seen in the Southern Sky just above the centre of this image there is a huge cluster of very hot stars called R136.  According to the post where I found this picture, these stars are among the massive known.  Impressive, at last I find such photos from the heavens fascinating, I marvel at all that is out there that I cannot see with my  naked eye. Astronomy has always been a subject that can keep me glued to the telly, especially when well done and documented..

Landscapes like this one are just a drive away, they might not fill me with unknown wonder, but they do draw and instill in me a quiet joyfulness that comes from the serene moment of being outdoors surrounded by nature.  We can not see the life that lives and moves under the water, but it is there. We may hear the birds and the activities of the birds and animals who live int he woodlands, but they are there.

This colourful border didn’t happen on its own, people were involved in the planning and shaping of the beautiful presentation, what we saw during our visit to the farm,(prev. blog) was the results of a lot of “love”.  Weeding is a task performed with a focused mind.   Take pleasure in the simple joys of today, step out side and listen to the world around you.  There is so much for us to observe, if only we open our “eyes” and hearts to the experience.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, it is always such a wonderful experience to view life through the lenses of a camera. It is when I get home and actually see the “capture” that I am blown away by the moment shared in the cycle of the plant’s life.

A floral greeting for you today…

IMG_0625

Strolling through the agricultural park in the heart of the city yesterday brought back a lot of memories.  My parents especially my Dad ( the avid photographer that he was) loved to bring us here for a day trip and to take pictures.  The farm has wonderful beds of flowers of every colour one can imagine.  Rock gardens, and  a small oasis tucked here and there of trees and evergreens.  Along with what I will call domestic plants, the farm also has fields of corn and other crops.  The Dept. of Agriculture has several office buildings and laboratories there, it is a big area, however, as long as I can remember, they have had a portion of it open to the public so that “city folk” can come and learn about crops, animals etc.  Yes one of the big attractions is a cow barn.  And no, we didn’t get to see the cows, that will be another time.

IMG_0619X_ediit SL

On a summer day, it wasn’t unusual to have to fight your way to through a crowd of tourists with cameras all clicking away, at the thousands of plants in various stages of their blooming cycles.  It was and likely still is a place for wedding pictures.  Yes there was a hit of rain in the air, and late afternoon so the place was quiet.  The heat of the day was being  tossed about by a wind that was testing its wings, it was still in a playful mood.  A rain cloud was nudged and some drops did fall, but all in all, it was a wonderful hour away from the hustle and bustle of the rush hour traffic that was happening all around this patch of “Agricultural farm land”

IMG_0646

While we hurry about, driving here and there, there is another style of living that is very close by, and unless we stop, we don’t see it.  How often have I driven by and not stopped.  For years I’ve taken this place for granted.  Already the reality of modern day life in 2014, with budget cuts and the  need  or is it greed, for space to build, sources have tried to cut into this land,  ” Master Gardeners” and” Friends of the Farm” volunteer and work hard to maintain the land for people to enjoy.

IMG_0661

It takes years for  trees to  develop, grow and mature into the works of natural art they become.  We are much like the nature around us, to live we need the freedom to grow, most of all we need love in our lives, in all its various forms.  We need to stop looking out, and begin to look at what IS. The expression, “stop and smell the roses” certainly applied in my day yesterday.  To quote from a church lesson ” With a humble mind, take a second look ” make time to reflect on where you are, sincerely pray that you will live with love at the core of your actions.

Good morning dear readers…..  I hope you get to enjoy a breath of fresh air today, after yesterday, I want more.. =^_^= is that a snippet of greed? Oh gosh and golly gee, I hope not.   SMILE… pass it on.

Rev Tiago de Medeiros Chagas – Photography

My name is Rev. Tiago de Medeiros Chagas, and I am a Brazilian  minister of a church founded in Japan. I consider the Church of Perfect Liberty a universal church.

Early flowers (1 of 1)

In the end of last year, I decided to buy a camera to take some pictures of my family. I always had cameras (point-and-shoot), but I was never a big enthusiastic about taking pictures. I used to do it in big family events and so forth, but that’s it! My level of photography could be considered below beginner. For those who understand about photography, I didn’t even know the difference between a point-and-shoot camera and a DSLR!

bridge by Rev. T

Rev. Eugene (the head minister of the Church of Perfect Liberty in Ottawa, whom is my  supervisor) studied about photography in school, so, he knows a lot about photography. One day, when I was trying to take an impossible photo with my camera, he kindly explained to me why I wouldn’t be able to do what I intended to, as well as, what I should do in order to take that photo. Maybe as a response to his kindness, I became very interested to know more about photography, understand more about words, such as ISO, aperture, and shutter speed, which by the way, I had never heard before.

Since then, I’ve been trying to learn more and more about photography.

I bought a very basic entry DSLR camera, because it was the cheapest one I could find and went online trying to learn more about photography. I was able to find several websites, blogs and channels on youtube of photographers who have been teaching people for FREE.

At first, my wife was not completely happy about it. She said that I was spending most of our free-time watching those videos, and that she wanted me do something else, but since I started taking pictures, and she could notice that, gradually, I was taking better pictures of her and our daughter, she got very happy and excited. In fact, she started to encourage me to watch more and more videos to better understand the fundamentals of photography, in order to take better pictures.

If I could say something about my own skills in photography, I would say that I am still in the level below beginner if that exists. There are so many things I need to understand about photography in order to call one of my photos an artistic expression, however, if we compare present photos with the ones I took in the past, I can say that there was a big improvement.

I am very impressed by those people who can learn by themselves about anything.  I am not like that. In order to learn a little bit about anything and now especially photography, I have been asking questions to many people, watching many videos of those photographers who use their time to record photography lessons to post on youtube for anyone out in this entire world. Even though I am not a very intelligent man, thanks to assistance of many people, my questions about photography have been kindly answered, for which I am truly thankful.

In our lives, it is very difficulty to improve ourselves without others’ assistance. Maybe it is impossible to do it. We do need assistance all the time. Since the moment that we were born, we receive assistance from others like the doctors and nurses for the labour, our parents for pretty much everything, our teachers for education. When we grow up, even though we are completely healthy and we can work, if there is no job for us, we will be very difficult to survive. Also, one can be self-employed as a photographer for example, if there is no store open to buy a camera, it will be impossible for anyone to do their job.

tulips by Rev T

If one is a very skilled chef, probably it will be easy to find a job in one restaurant, but if all the stores close down and there is no ingredients, despite of great skills, there won’t be anything to be done to express one’s self. Therefore, the great results one produces are deeply related to the great effort of many other people. We should never forget that. So, now it comes the one question. What can we do to honour those people who helped us so much?

For the Church of Perfect Liberty, appreciation has the meaning of expressing your gratitude for others, but also, do something in return. Transform your feeling of appreciation into action. And how can we do that? For those you have contact with, you can return a favour with something else, but for those who you don’t have contact anymore, like the physician who performed your labour, the nurses, teachers from kindergarten, or even your parents who did so much for you, that there is nothing you can do that can pay this ‘debt’ you have with them.

As human beings, we can put wholehearted effort into whatever we do, in order to honour those people and try make them feel proud of us. Based on our actions, they can feel that it was worth all their effort to help us.

Thank you very much,

Rev. Tiago de Medeiros Chagas    (all photographs in this post by Rev.T)

Buongiorno good morning everyone!

Mineral Flowers @ Danakii Desert in Ethiopia

mineral flowers, dalloi volcano by pascal baegli flickr

This is a picture of acid lakes in the Dallol volcano * beautiful sight isn’t it. Zillions of tiny mineral deposits come together to form magnificent little rosettes that in turn, weave and join together to form natural basins for the acid waters to form.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, how often have we heard that!

It is interesting how different cultures, we go about finding a mate, or partner.  In traveling to the East, I had occasion to speak with a number of different women who were in(what appeared)  very happy relationships, and who were all from arranged marriages.  I say arranged, not the way necessarily that the west has portrayed them but arranged never-the-less.  Having spent the majority of my working life working  as a Stress Management Specialist in Health Care, where over  65% of the issues I dealt with stemmed from unhappy relationships, and in many ways very unhealthy “coupling”.  I was impressed with the natural harmony I saw and felt when talking to these woman.  They found men with common interests and goals, learned what they could about whether or not their goals were similar and found out if their paths were on the same playing field. Then made a decision on whether or not to go forward in a relationship.   This also applied to the men, looking for a wife.   Two criteria, practical and long term.  I’ve simplified this of course , more at another time.

In the culture I’ve lived in here in North America, and the social interactions that I’ve even participated in, is very different.  We seem to be attracted first to the “looks”  (outer wrappings ) of the object  we “desire”.   We can date someone for months and yes even years, and know deep down they are not satisfying our inner needs, yet …we hold on….. why…. out of fear of being alone.  Not having someone to be part of a couple with, so when we go out with friends, or go places we are doing it with someone else.  EVEN WHEN, the activities we are attending or doing (and this applies to both men and women) are not what we really want to be doing.  Ah HAH!!!!  ring any bells.  If you are going to do something, do it because you want to, do it with sincerity in your heart.  If you choose to do something, then do it with joy and enthusiasm,  you are the only person who is in control of your choices.

I like to live quietly in harmony with Nature. To know what you find compatible with your way of life, you first have to know your SELF, and what you want!.  By doing this, you will find a greater sense of inner beauty and calm.     God/Nature/Universe is with us always!         Oyashikiri

Goedendag =^_^= good day everyone!

3012c01dcc3059b4172570c9577826a8In church yesterday, Rev. Tiago spoke of a story he’d heard when he was back in Brazil, studying to be a minister for the Church of PL  (Perfect Liberty) It was about Oshieoya-sama .  (This is the honorific title of the spiritual leader of PL, Rev. Takahito Miki).  He was telling  us that when Oshieoya-sama was younger, (still in high school) he felt that it was important to know about computers, and that the new technology would one day play an important role in the church and society. He focused and studied hard, what he learned he taught to others in his church group. The subject matter was advanced for his age group and academic level, but he applied himself, and eventually  he wanted to take the required exams for certification on this IT technology.   The exams were attended and taken  by students in senior levels he was the only one who was still at the high school level.  When the results were finally posted, of all the students who had taken the tests, only 5  made the grade. 1 of which was Oshieoya-sama.  On being told of his accomplishment, his first reaction was one of concern, on how the others had done.

Because of his achievement at such an early age, he was signaled out to be interviewed.  Always he included his fellow students, always when asked a question, on how he had managed to get such grades and pass the exams, he referred the question to one of the other graduates, by saying ,” thank you, yes WE worked hard,” and then he would turn and ask the other student to explain the complexities of the subject.  He did not accept the attention on himself and his hard work, but on the hard work of the others who had also achieved their goals.  Yes he was the youngest, but he knew that in allowing the others to have their time being interviewed it would help them along their career paths.

I so appreciated hearing Rev. Tiago talk about Oshieoya-sama.  His little story was a reminder for me  to put into practice more, the  21 Principles in PL,  in particular   #4 to live with the spirit of Misasage (Devotion) working for the happiness of others.

It is so easy to get caught up in our own little worlds. In PL we are encouraged to pray for the happiness of others and society.   to strive to do things for the sake of other, and pray for their happiness as well.  Many of us will often review the PL 21 Precepts.  How often do we review the 21 Principles?    the PL 21 Principles, are the practical guidelines  for our daily lives as PL members.  They assist us in practicing the PL 21 Precepts, they are specific  guidelines how how to live the PL WAY. (an artistic life) and teach us how to reach a positive state of mind.  Anyone wanting to know more about what Rev. Tiago had to say yesterday, or to consult with him, Rev Tiago de Medeiros Chagas  –   tiago@perfectliberty.ca  or by phone 613-225-1850

Even when we think we have put our best effort into what we are doing, we may have overlooked something. with a humble mind, take a second look, check for that there isn’t something you’ve missed.  Mistakes and oversights happen.  They are just part of life… little hiccups along the way.

Feelings of appreciation become real, when expressed.

nederlands,3Good Morning Everyone!

Today is the 21st of the month, the day that all members of Perfect Liberty celebrate, and when possible come to church, where the Minister and / or Hokyoshi  perform the  “formal” Thanksgiving ceremony.  It is a day set aside each month to remind us to show appreciation and not take for granted the world around us.  It is so easy to step off the path we are on.  And, reality is, we often find that in some way, we are no longer in alignment with our spiritual goals.  Our vibrational alignment needs a tune up.  In observing our thoughts we realize that some how we just aren’t going in the right direction.  Time for a U turn?

Expressing your true feelings, saying thank you when someone, or something brings sadness into your life, saying  thank  you when you  find  an unexpected  event has brought you to a  happy place. Both are moments of truth, both are a celebration of your perceptions, feelings and thought process. It is in interacting with  others that we grow. Love is a four letter word with a myriad of ways it is expressed, utilized and felt. When we can genuinely express a true feeling of appreciation by saying Thank You out loud, Wow… when we can show someone we care, not just say it…  its a feel good situation for everyone.  We often take for granted the ones closest to us.. Remember today to say Thank YOU…

Nederlands 5Instead of mourning for love that is lost, remember the happiness experienced.

We can only be ourselves, if we let others be themselves, no more , no less……Blessings … Oyashikiri
