Snow and tranquility

The snow was beautiful today, it was light, fluffy and brought with it a warmer weather that made it a delight to walk from the mall to the car. When I got to the car U wasn’t so enthralled, In the short time I had been in the mall, the car was covered in a blanket of snow that obscured all the details, leaving just the outline of the Rav. The windows were in need of a good brushing, I’d also have to clear off the roof or the snow would fall and impede my view while driving. Guess where my gloves were?

Noooo you really don’t want to know what crossed my mind when I realized I’d have to move snow from the doors and windows prior to opening the door with my sleeve. =^_^= … the little crystals of snow, were dainty and fluffy, they were floating around like little feathers. I couldn’t help but appreciate their charm. That didn’t stop me from realizing that they would all dive into the car as soon as I opened the door. So be it. After all my gloves would be inside, then I could start the car, and come back out and clear the car, AND if I was lucky the brush with the long handle would be handy. … … …. It wasn’t.

The drive home was slow….. like turtles all in a row we crawled. Big trucks were turning and sliding around corners a seasoned winter driver, I knew to leave a car length between my car and the one in front,, more if I could. Those who didn’t chanced kissing bumpers. More than once I had to double brake to deal with the mush and greasy road surface. My adventure, its times like this that I talk to the Universe and count my blessings.

Life is to be enjoyed, and no matter what, I do my best to find the happy in whatever it is I’m living. Even if it is to walk into my “upset” room for a moment to vent, once I’ve done it, I can walk back out, close the door and move on. Expression is a gift, try to be as creative as you can, if you hold back the negative moment will fester, if you acknowledge it, and give it is due, the moment passes. Trust me, in life there is always balance, you can’t have “one” with out the other..

Every morning, part of the wake up routine is that before the dogs get fed and let out, I turn on the computer so it can do its thing and be ready for me when i get back into my office. “efficient use of time” I feed the dogs, and wander back into the office with my huge over-sized mug of very cold water. This was part of a message I got from a friend today.

At first I just stared at it, humour isn’t one of my strong points, then the funny bone kicked in and …… well …… I couldn’t resist sharing it with you. There were several such pictures, I’m sure you are all familiar with this type of e-mail.. They must land on in your in- boxes as much as they do mine, probably more so, since I’m known for my lack of humour. This is the only other one I’ll share with you, because it too, gave me cause for reflection.

How we start our day, often sets the tone for the rest of the day/night. If we get up thinking, omg! another day of sunshine and blue skies, it will be soooo hot outside. and list off all the negatives of how you perceive your day will be… then you are programming your self to look for and “complain” about each new discovery you make. On the other “paw” if you wake up and see the sun shining on the ice formed on the tree branches outside your window, and enjoy the beauty of the diamond like rays of light that reflect off the ice crystals, and see the floating hazy mist that is drifting by on a blast of wind and think of how nice and crunchy the snow will be underfoot while you trundle off to work, your mood will be much more positive. When you greet others you will be more likely to have a happy positive tone in your voice. Guess what…. a happy greeting and a smile, will reward you with a cheerful nod or greeting back.

OK … LOL this will be a most interesting day… I keyed in crunchy snow, and I got this… a recipe for snow pea pods It wasn’t what I was looking for but it was so yummy looking .. this dish was grilled but “me thinks” it will make a great salad. Cherry tomatoes, Parmesan and GARLIC. (erecipecards.blogspot.com ) .. below is the crunchy snow.. =^_^=

Where-ever you go, what ever you do today, Make it a day you’ll remember, Make a determined effort to share sunshine and happiness with others. A wishy washy attitude will not give you a good st art to the day. Be proactive and positive. YOU CAN DO IT!

Amish Proverb

Good Morning every one, how are you today? It is not that I don’t have a lot to say, I could, but I came across proverb today, and spent a good time digesting it. Thought to share it with you.

This description of this picture says it is an Amish man riding his horse-drawn buggy through a blizzard in St. Mary’s MD. USA, Feb. 10.2010. I reflected on this moment of his journey, and eventually I decided that yes, dressed properly I would have loved to have shared the experience.

My spinning wheel sits idle gathering dust, I just had to have it, and yet .. now it sits an ornament waiting…. Certainly this is the time of year for reflection.

Not everyone is on the same page we are .. or even reading the same book. appreciate and accept the differences we meet along the way, focus on the chapter in our own lives and live the day to its fullest capacity.

Take a walk in the snow…. enjoy everything you do ….

Next time it snows, I plan to.

Share the Joy

I looked outside my kitchen window today and thought, wow there is a rabbit in the backyard. When I looked again, I saw that it was the way the leaves were showing against the snow and not a rabbit at all. Interesting how the mind can take an image and rearrange it in your brain.

Seeing a rabbit, even though it really wasn’t there, brought a smile, and a happy feeling. I thought of all the furry little wonders that friends have posted, that led me to think of the friends themselves and my sister who loves rabbits and that in turn made me feel even happier. Joy can come from anywhere at anytime, recognize it, and appreciate the moment.

A rabbit sees a treat and checks it out. Someone captured the moment, they managed a picture..and.. their sharing in turn brought a smile to others. that is what sharing joy is all about. When we are happy/ and smile it is contagious, pass it on.

Sorry my sense of humour at times has flaws.. but I thought that the person in the Nederlands had a moment of creativity here. This picture got a chuckle from me.. and a kudos to the artist for doing something other than a snowman.

sounds of snow

There is something to be said about the sounds on waking during or after a fresh snow fall. It is a muffled silence that wraps the house in a cozy ambiance.. .I lay for almost an hour today visiting the many postings of friends on Facebook. Never would I do such a thing on another day. Somehow the quiet of the morning allowed the lazy side of me to enjoy the moment. I got to see videos that I otherwise would probably not have seen because I would have been up out of bed and right into my morning routine.

When I did get up, it was to grab the iPhone and head for the back door to take some pictures to share with you on the wonders of the new fresh fallen snow. Suet and bird feed are put in the feeders in the front where active dogs can’t get at the dropped seeds. First line of attack for birds is the feeders themselves, only when they can’t get at the feeder or the feeder is bare waiting for a refill do they pick up after themselves. OK ok that is not quite true, the smarter ones are happy to get the fresh seed slopped by the type A birds that are busy trying to outdo themselves by being first on the small ledge of the feeders.

While we think of decorating trees and our homes, Mother Nature has been busy putting her own signature on the look of the holiday season. “Life is Art” (PL Precept 1) Yesterday this same scene would have been drab and weary from the cold winters day. Today with the artistic touches of nature, it is vibrant and alive, giving us a totally different side of its many “faces”..

In every little nook and cranny of our “inner selves” is a story to be told, a “golden moment” we have lived and will relive in another season. Some lessons come back too many times to count, others come along, and we never see them again, why, because we captured and retained the essence of the first visit.

My lazy mind appreciated the morning lie in, so did the dogs who never stirred from my side, we were swaddled under warm blankets and the quilt I made a couple of years ago. We were content. Enjoy such moments when they come to you. The many “sounds of snow”… just one of the pleasures of winter.

Hey it snowed last night!

Ahhhh don’t we wish it could be so, idyllic fresh fallen snow, the crisp country air and evergreens looking like sugar-coated fantasy trees in a Disney movie.

This was a picture found on social media after the big storm in the Buffalo area. (Yahoo news) Somewhere between the two lies the different realities of a winter day in the part of the world that enjoy the wonders of nature’s four seasons.

Sadly even those who know that winter comes every year, and have been how to drive in snow, forget or choose to do it “their own way” Often drivers have not even prepared their cars for winter driving.

This picture was taken of a snow-covered street in Tokyo during a heavy snowfall. Remember the stalled vehicles in Kansas City in 2013.

We are not all in positions where we can avoid being out when Mother Nature gives full expression to her capabilities, however, as in all situations in life, if we are prepared, and focused on what we are doing, challenges are always easier to deal with. When we deal with situations out of our control in creative ways, ingenuity lights the way,

Snow is part of Nature’s natural wonders, we cannot escape the negatives that happen in our lives , but we can choose the way we deal with them. Take a page from Snoopy’s philosophy in life. relax and enjoy!

snowflakes fall

look up at the silent moon, nowhere does it shine with more light

then when it is shining down on you

the crystal clear water runs merrily along, unaware of your plight

cool liquid ripples, swirl and babble totally caught up in their journey

while you play and sing the heart broken blues

the bass guitar keeps time while the saxophone plays a mournful sound

and all you know is that your heart is broken in two

don’t despair, let the moonlight bathe you in its soothing light

stop, listen to the natural melodies of the creek as it makes its way

to its destination around and down the bend

let your emotions be drawn to the falling snowflakes as they spirit them away

soon you will know only the night

and the joy of anticipation for the delights

waiting just around the corner,

snowflakes are little gems from heaven, they are gentle reminders of the wonders and many expressions of God.

snowflakes fall so we can actually see and enjoy, the purity of change

even if it is just for a moment, they will gather and present you with a brand new world.

you, me, and the world we are in, are ONE…..

Love is another word for God, snowflakes with their unique designs

a new season will soon be here…

The warm fuzzy glow of a warm house, frost on the windows, air that is crisp and clear. Hmm not everyone smiles dreamily at the thought of the coming of winter, but I do. There is something to be said about “nesting”. Like a squirrel gathering nuts before the snow comes, I get in supplies like I think that it is the late 1800’s or early 1900’s and we need to be prepared.

Winter weather has been rather erratic of late, wow, places that seldom saw snow have been hit with blizzards, crops in the southern states have had some brutal storms come their way. All over the world, winter comes and changes where we live, and we have to adjust.

Before the days of instant news, and social media, we simply dealt with what came along. It might not have always been fun, or easy, but we took measures to do our best to cope with the power outages, furnace malfunctions, delayed transportation etc. Now with “instant fixes, and gratification” it seems that there is more of a “panic” mode that sets in. OMG the cell phone is not working, or the TV signal is all askew.

Arggghhh my PC is down. Honeeeeee the internet is not working, anguish at its best. LOL been there done that. Remember the days of trying to read by candle till the lights came back on. How about the wind up radio, so you can hear the news should there be an announcement of when the power lines will be up again.

Winter is a special time, a time for spiritual rebirth, for reconnecting with the inner YOU. A time where we can enjoy seeing the world new and fresh, We are all unique and different in our own way, personalities and lifestyles vary. One thing we all share is the gift of life and LOVE.

Let us do our best to see the positive in our lives, and to appreciate and show appreciation to those who share in our world. Whether close or far, reach out and say hello, show you care.
