Oh dear, I opened my mail to find a photo from my friend who has a large countryside hide-a-way where she goes fishing, riding and exploring. Isn’t this a little cutie .. I’ve never been in one, but I can imagine it can take you into a lot of places. I do remember with great fondness of a day out with a gal pal who has a couple of Jeeps, It was a few years back, well ok, maybe over 5 years.. but I can still feel the exhilaration riding the jeep over big huge boulders and then down the other side into a ravine… it was slow and easy, the human controlling the jeep as it slid and eased its way over the rough terrain. An adventure I treasure, that I’ll never forget.
It was a totally different way to see and explore the woodlands, and for sure they travel in areas, that now as a hiker I am not seeing. Someday, maybe in the fall, I’ll find out more about the other outdoor experiences, where other modes of outdoor fun is had.. I know there are clubs and special trails they go on, another mode of enjoyment I’ve only caught a glimpse of, but not seen or know anyone who has done it, is mud trials?? races?? I think they test their skills and vehicles driving in mud??
What is “normal” is different for each individual. Everyone has a different way of thinking and doing. It’s important to understand others’ feelings.

Currently I’m caught up in watching a show about “catching the waves”.. yesterday I saw them doing white water kayaking in the Ottawa River, “running the rapids”. There are so many different ways to enjoy the outdoors, thanks Sharon for reminding me of that.
I love my circle of friends, I truly do, each is so unique and special in his/her own way, I can’t do it all, but through my friends I can experience so much more of the world around me. Sharing, caring, loving, all acts that make the world a better place.

Wandering the back roads with a friend is always so much more rewarding then when on my own. Today I made the trip to South Mountain with food for the food bank, after the “task” was done, we were free to wander where-ever the car took us
The quiet vistas we saw along the way, were soothing to the eyes. Living in the city where we are constantly being surrounded by the sounds of a vibrant growing urban sprawl, it was a delightful interlude. No sirens, no heavy traffic, tall buildings, over crowded streets, just the open roads, quaint little towns and wonderful farmland with acres of fields of soon to be table ready produce.
It was fun to discover new places of interest, and to learn more about our “selves” as we shared stories and memories of past adventures.
Remember today’s calendar ,PL day 12… “let’s begin today with a smile”.. I did and it continued through out the day. Friendships are so important. If you have not reached out in awhile to a friend you’ve missed.. now’s the time.. Most of us have had our vaccines, regulations are being relaxed, we still have to be prudent and take care. But… finally we can spend some quality time with a friend in person… What a joy!

We did stop at a fresh vegetable stand… we both took advantage of the freshly picked green beans! Yummy.. also got some young fresh garlic.. double yum!

Along this same shoreline, where I had been standing musing, I had moments before been along this stretch of the island, and to my wonder and joy had an encounter with a blue heron. To awed to grab for the camera, I simply drunk in the moment, as he/she up and flew away.

Three years ago, I would never had been up and out walking like I am now.. I would never have had occasion to meet the wonderful people I meet now as I wander the woodlands, rivers and parks…AND I would not have reconnected with Nature the way I do now, or known and seen the wildlife that I am now. NOW is a powerful moment in time.
Don’t think “I can’t” from the start. Begin by taking the first step, then you’ll be able to see what comes next and a path will open.

Visualize or imagine yourself having or doing or being what you are working towards. feel, see, taste, touch, hear. Notice the reaction of those around you…. but.. make it all ok with you. No matter what other people may think or how they react. YOU matter!
There are no empty spaces between the trees now, everything is covered with vegetation all vying for a place in the sun.

Nowhere can this be seen more when walking the nature trails – the landscape changes every day, there is always something new to see or find. I didn’t crop the second picture, I wanted you to see the wall of vegetation that is so abundant with life.. The bird songs are always floating over the land, coming from all directions. Woodlands are alive with activity.

Be a person who can say ” I like it” find what moves you the most and express your appreciation.
I was heart broken today when I went to visit a wonderful old “lady”.. a charming homestead on a back road that I drove by many many times. I met a young man while I* was waiting for my car the other day.. surprise we had common interests and memories.. He told me how a home he’d known for years had been vandalized, because it had stood vacant, and a blogger wrote about it .. giving its location.. This brought unwanted attention, windows were broken beautiful old doors were smashed, anything that could be taken was stolen. I felt a shudder when he told me about it, and wondered if we were talking about the same “grand lady”… Today I found out we were.
All around there are new houses going in.. I took pictures around the grounds, even tho’ the house has suffered the disrespect of looters, the family home and out buildings still hold the charm of yesteryear. It was quiet, I could imagine what it would have been like when children ran and played on the spacious lawns. Animals would have been lingering and enjoying the wonderful country sounds. Farm workers would have been tending the fields (in the back of the house) I could even imagine the smell of fresh baking wafting from the open kitchen windows.
The reality of the moment came crashing down around me when I heard a car driving down a road that was not too far from the driveway to the farm. Change is evident, we can’t stop progress, but I hope that a time will come when respect for the world around us, will eliminate the kind of unnecessary damages that were done to this fine old home. Not to mention the heartache to the family who have had this homestead in their lives for years.
Each person’s peace leads to world peace. First of all you have to be happy. That happiness will spread and be the foundation of World Peace.
