The house can be seen as you drive into Cornwall off the 401 going west.  From the off ramp it looked so lonely, so forlorn.  The inside is completely a mess. Without proper footwear and a hard hat, I wouldn’t venture too far inside.

The area around the house  looks like at one time it  had been a tended  lawn and garden.   I’d say a farm-house, the building (that also stands empty) that you drive past to get to this one seems to attest to my thinking, but then?   It is a brick building, perhaps when the land was expropriated for the highway, they built further back.. Of course with expansions.. this is no a place for a  “home”..  – for sale (land) it would be commercial property now.

I love the old wood, even with age, it has a quiet dignity to it.  The homes being built today, I don’t see the same character or get the same feeling of seeing a structure that was built to last, a home for generations.

The basket in the upper right corner, I remember when we would find them at markets filled with fresh farm vegetables.  How long ago since the last resident put it outside, perhaps filled with fall produce or an autumn display of bright foliage.

The house has been vacant for some time.. the wild trees, shrubs and grasses have been reclaiming what was once a tended lawn.

Thanks for visiting with me.  It was important to me.. to give the house  some  love attention, maybe one last time..  the new gravel down on the road leading to the area, suggests that something is “in the wind”

Progress so necessary, but at what cost……

This was a house that I have longed to see up close and personal, yesterday I found a way to do that.   Thanks to my husband, we made the time to turn right instead of our usual left, and voila, a road where none had been visible to us before.

I had a wonderful time, not having the proper footwear, I didn’t venture inside, or up the stairs, but did get some more pictures which I will share with you perhaps tomorrow.

messy Tuesday

canvas torn

Welcome to my mess.  If you look .. you can see that it is a colourful mess.  It happens. Both these canvas pieces, I found in a thrift shop.  Both I brought home with the intent to recycle.  How I would end up recycling tho’ I had not predicted.

I was looking for something rather specific for another canvas I had been working on, and it turned out that the tail on one of the birds was perfect for what I wanted.  I pulled the canvas off the frame, and ripped it into pieces to get the piece I wanted.

Lo and behold I found that it was a very satisfying sound, the ripping of the old, dried canvas, and every more pleasing was the discovery that I really had myself some great pieces to do some unusual cards.  So today when I found this other canvas with the paint splatter all over.  There was something about it that drew me.. it was too busy for my taste, but I saw possibilities.  For a few dollars it came home with me.

Once again I found myself delighting in the sound of tearing canvas.    and … Now, I have a mess on my desk. I know, I just know. I really do… that these pieces are going to come in handy.  At what .. I don’/t know yet.  I’ll keep you posted.

Meanwhile.. I’m a very contented camper.  I’ve ripped, torn, and pulled apart a canvas, finished a super special card, found a piece that is perfect for my “escape” canvas… and the day is not done.  How lucky can one person be.  =^_^=

Now that the mess is made, and I’ve recorded it for ???  I can pack up the pieces and put them away for another day.

Happy happy happy, every one..

chasing the Mad Hatter

Dentelle comes out to play 4.1.17_008.png

It all started out innocently enough. I heard about a place where there was a possibility I could run into, or meet up with the Mad Hatter, and if really lucky maybe Alice herself.   had to crawl through a door to do that, and fall down a big hole, but I was game.

Dentelle comes out to play 4.1.17_002

Once there what had started out easy enough, was proving to be a big confusing, there were no road signs, in fact, there had been a note earlier in the game saying I should follow the path.  And it would be more fun if I had my settings at night.. but you can see, I wasn’t that brave.. I kept to travel in the daylight.

I went in to explore the first building I found, it was empty, but fully furnished I was able to warm myself by a roaring fire.  I wasn’t tempted to rest on the bed.. but I did sit a spell on a chair in what appeared to be a bedroom with a lot of books.

When I found my way out of the big spooky house, I sat for awhile hoping that I would be given a sign, or someone would come by… no one came.  I did meet a guard at the entrance to the red queen’s palace, but she was no where to be seen.  I dared sit on her throne.

I made my way over hills, and through a huge valley of coloured mushrooms, I could hear activity, but didn’t see anyone.  When I came across the tea party, no one was there, all the desserts were out, and the tea still hot, but not a soul in sight.

The windmill was beckoning with its welcoming lights at the door, before calling it a night, I thought I go explore.  Sigh.. a woman’s work is never done.. I had to mend and sew without any proper light before I could go to bed.

Meanwhile, while I was out exploring, Little Q was at home enjoying a night by the fire, with not a thought in her head to leave her cosy home

No two people use “time” in the same way.  The trick is to find what is “right for you, and make time to do it.  Every day we get to create our own “chapter and verse”, it was a grand week-end.  Now, we have a whole week ahead. Happy start of the week everyone.

life = art

wall art, hung 3.27.17

Art is subjective.  Art takes on many forms and is never really something that people will  agree on.  Style, techniques, presentation, so many many varieties and opinions.

As an “artist” I begin with an empty canvas or sometimes with one I’ve seen at a thrift and want to repurpose.  It is amazing how effective gesso is at wiping out what was previously on the canvas.  In this case I covered up a rather mundane picture of leaves and shrubs with black gesso (Demco) used for oil and acrylic.

wall art 3.27.17

This little character started out full-bodied, but somehow, he didn’t like what was happening, and as other artists will tell you.. it wasn’t long before, he took on a life of his own. Happens when writing too.  The story line you have had in your head for days, starts to take shape on the screen, your fingers are typing away, your mind is playing out the scene…  it is all so smooth, so “happening”.. till you stop and take a breather…. you see the plot has taken turns, even you didn’t expect.

Is it “intuition” what happens when we are creative, when we try to reproduce the ideas in our mind to paper, canvas or other form of expression.  How often do we hear the expression.. “life happens”  or “sh#t happens”  Sometimes it is super cool, great, awesome even, and other times, it is a lot of , darn, cripes, and %@%# !  Whatever, there is always a consequence  to our actions.

IN PL we learn … that every day is a new beginning.  We learn to be creative with any and all challenges /opportunities that come our way.  Most importantly to appreciate the lessons, and outcomes of the day.

There is always a way, always someone who will help guide you to find the “way”

PL Precept # 11    Always be with God

PL Principle #3   I will live with a mind of appreciation towards others and things.

back in time

P1000619Three pounds of hamburger for $1.00

4 loaves of bread for $0.50 cents.

3 packages of hamburger buns for $1.00

Onions, celery, peas and carrots were the vegetables of the day, along with the potatoes of course, or in our case, the bag of  rice.  Your shopping cart could be full for just over $10.  Kraft Dinner was 4 for $1.00 and sometimes 6 for a dollar.  Baked beans, came in all two flavours .. baked with pork, or molasses.  Maybe there was one with a tomato sauce.

Mother whipped up dishes with chicken hearts, giblets, and often Sunday would be a roast of Beef, or Port heart.  I recall her chicken livers and green peppers.  Chinese dishes of course, all flavoured with garlic, ginger, and one of the soy sauces.  I still like these meats today, but I do see that they seem to be less the flavour of the day.

When she made up the giblets in a garlic and bit of honey sauce stir fried with the cabbage,  the sauce was oh so good over the steamed rice.

The icing on the cake, was when she would brown the rice that was stuck to the bottom of the pot… then carefully pour in some boiling water just as it got all crispy.  That was dessert.  We seldom had sweets for dessert till much later ..   This served me well, I don’t crave sweets, however, do admit to drooling for creamy butter filled buns from the Chinese grocers.

When I first started to cook for my own family, I recall gathering up cook books that showed us how to cook minced beef in hundreds of ways.  I’m thinking of this because today, I decided to do up a meat loaf for hubby.  While whipping it up, my thoughts drifted to when it wasn’t an unusual happening in the kitchen but rather a weekly dish that was served up in a zillion different ways, with either roast potatoes or rice.. and of course the obligatory side dish of a veggie.

Do I eat this way now. Nope, no, and no.  I can’t remember when I last had peas or carrots. a la frozen mixed vegetables sometimes with corn.  Now I overdose on brussels sprouts, okra, and tender green shoots from the Chinese grocers.

Oh how time changes… =^_^=    thanks for sharing the trip down memory lane with me.

My husband will have the meat loaf to himself (which he likes) ..  I am steaming pork ribs with Okra and red peppers for moi in a black bean and garlic sauce.  Can you hear the anticipation !!!
