whimsy in outer space

Star 1

star bright, starlight,

I’m going to come to you tonight

I will close my eyes and take an astral flight

up up I’ll float into the night

the higher I go

the more immense the galaxy

I no longer need to navigate

I need only to let go

star milky way and Venus rise in the Valley , Nevada

star bright, starlight

from here on high, the world  is so small

help me find the milky way

I’ve heard it said

when I travel light,

I’ll finally get  to visit Mars

where I’ll  see the stars in  a very different light

oh my, look, is that me sleeping

in my chair

earth and mars

no wait that can’t be me

we just landed on  Mars

oh dear little star, you’re showing me

that no matter where I go

I’ll always be me.

Happy me, I’m floating in space, and see, you are with me.

history -love

remember when

This was the future, and now it is history,  Trains still run, however, they are no longer considered marvels, or a mode of travel to fear. Does anyone out there remember carbon paper, and the joy a  typist had of not having to type a document 3 times, and horror of horrors if a typo was made and you had to realign the paper to correct it.  Now I hear complaints on how the smart phones and tablets automatically correct your text, whether it makes sense or not.

Technology is wonderful, and it has improved our lives in many ways, however it is often used instead of human contact and a phone call replaces a visit.  There was a time I would spend hours writing out a letter to a penpal/ friend I worked at my penmanship and drawing so that the letter would be fun and personal. Even the envelope got special attention.  I wanted my friend to know it was from me as soon as she saw the envelope.

Once posted, there was the wait for the postman to see what was happening in my friend’s world.  My Mother would send out cards for birthdays, anniversaries, get well, and any other occasion where a personal greeting would be appreciated and enjoyed. I was encouraged to make personal cards, and I admit it was most rewarding when I would get feedback on my efforts.  I carried this into my adult years, but as the technology changed and the newer methods of communicating began to enthrall  my creative side, I began to see that I could write more letters and spent time with more of my friends in far away places if I typed out my letters.  I would then draw pictures along the side and of course there was still the envelope to do.

Soon the machines got even fancier and we were able to do clip art and a number of other creative things on them, not just type alphabet and numbers. So letters were sent that looked more like a bulletin than a personal hand written letter,  In many ways they were slowly being de-personalized.  Friends began to use the modern technology more and more, and when the fax machines, copiers, and  e-mails came along,  well….. the letter writing was like a lost art.  We had instant gratification.

This is my personal observation, we have given up personal communication. being with someone, holding or hugging them, showing our caring with the energy and warmth that comes from being part of the air they breath, to transmitting words,/text across miles and being content with our efforts.  It is true we can’t always be there in person, but let me ask you please, if I am very sick, or dying somewhere, if you can’t come, at least send me a  hand written note, something you’ve touched, and expressed in your own words , in your writing in an envelope you’ve addressed, it will make me so happy.

It can be a simple, I’m thinking of you, get well soon, or die in peace, I don’t care… just care enough to be personal with me. LOL a post it note will do if you wrote on it, and addressed the envelope. I’ll know.. I’ll feel your energy as soon as I touch the envelope.

Love is a feeling, machines don’t do feelings ….

A creative mind was at work here

using the natural elements found (driftwood)

the artist created a masterpiece of beauty.

Using elements of what was (past)’

The reality of “today” is a work of realism

texture, and depth, the artist

drew on yesterday’s experiences

Nursery - Kewpies

Kewpie dolls always brought a smile, the innocence of a yesterday, can still bring out a smile today.  When we reminisce, we usually indulge in memories that make us happy, and feel good.  I realized as I researched for this blog, that some of the pictures and rhymes did stir in me forgotten moments of my childhood.  A person who lives in the present, I seldom go back or think of this from the past, once I’ve lived them I move on.  So getting little snippets of another time and place was kind of nice.

nursery - my dolly

The actual events are gone, but the feeling of contentment when I read my books,  drew or made clothes for my dolls, and later fashion models, are feel good moments.  For instance, when I saw the picture that I will post next, I remember the Dutch nanny we had after my Father passed away and my Mother had to go out and work so that we could manage in our home etc.

nursery rhyme

The Nanny had such a love for her country, and she was happy to share her memories, songs and stories with us. To this day I have a strong feeling for the Nederlands, even though I’ve never been there.  She taught me a song that I  still know some of the words and the tune, even though its been years since I’ve sung or heard it, when I sing a few bars to someone from Holland, they laugh and know exactly the nursery song I’m singing. =^_^=    When we are young, we absorb and take in more than words, we understand through feelings/connection.

nursery -books

Our minds are much like our personal libraries, if we allow ourselves the luxury of quality time with our”Selves” it is amazing the awesome discoveries will find.  As adults we often forget to take in the whole picture, ie. read the whole book, we read the summary and think we  know it all.  We don’t.  Make time to be with your”self”, it is important, you are unique and complex, and I assure you, you are worth knowing.

nursery tisket tasket

A tisket, a tasket a little  yellow basket, I wrote

a letter to my love, and on the way I dropped it

A tisket, a tasket,

nursery basket

I had fun this morning finding a little yellow basket, along the way I got to revisit nursery rhymes and snippets of another time.We talk of trying to find harmony in our lives with others, personally I find that peace of mind begins at home (within our selves)

wonders of..

wonders of the world

Plodding along on a hiking trail in Ireland, and …. hello……… The Valley of Love in Ireland, ….almost a mile long and over a half a mile high, it is said to be 3000 years older than the Pyramids. I will have to do more research on this, but it sure would stop me in my tracks.  I’m filled with questions, on how it was built, and why?  especially thousands of years ago, when there wasn’t the technology that is around today.  How did the craftsman, or men, work and maintain perspective.  I wondered if it was  even real, then I found it posted on a site that featured, all the world’s best wonders… allworldbest.blogspot.com   wonders 2

In today’s world, with information made available to us from all quarters of the world, what we hear about and see on the telly, news stations and print media, is usually about all the negatives that humans seem to delight on inflicting on others..  Is this what we want to be remembered for.

wonders 3

These ruins, remnants of a past civilization, are beautiful and certainly a testament to what a human is capable of.  What happened to the people? where did they go? and why did they go?. Scholars have been studying and writing papers and books about this for years.wonders 4 - Brazil

Brazil a city with passion and a lot of problems, will this also one day be a monument of wonder surrounded by ruins and a vacated city? With human minds wondering what went wrong, and why did the people leave.  No longer can one sit in front of a television set to be entertained with music and song, theatre and art, now we are asked to pay and pay again, for viewing that is more to our taste.  What we are given for basic television, is the news coverage of all the horrors in the world, the crime, the shooting, the drama of cheating husbands and wives, agents that kill and spy on us, we have made room in our homes for the savage nature in the human mind.wonders 5

Our rivers are being polluted, majestic tress are being cut, whole sections of century old forest are being laid bare, many species of animals are becoming extinct, weather changes are severe, and still we heed not the warnings.  We seem obsessed with material wealth, superficial wants, and sordid passions that leave a soul empty and bleeding.

wonders,satue of Liberty

Most of  us know this wonder, the statue of Liberty in the United States, besides a tourist attraction, do you know what she stands for…..  ????  The greatest wonder of all, is that Universe we live in, yet we disrespect it from morning to night. The Universe we live in is not aside from us, it is part of us, we are part of the Universe…. no more… no less…

Cherish the being in YOU, love the world and all that it is… only you can help with changing what the world is today, it is we, you and I as a unit that will give strength to living in a world of peace.

wedding shoeLOL, got you there, what have a pair of shoes got to do with Winnie the Pooh and Valentines…. smiles… I really don’t know but this is where I am this morning.  Have more coffee, it might help.  I was going through my mail when I came across this picture.  I am so blessed to have friends that share…  These shoes which I love btw, except I’d wear different laces, are featured in weddingonmania.com in an article on gorgeous …. wait for it…. vintage wedding shoes.

wedding decorations

That set me drifting off on weddings, tulle, flowers, balloons, fanciful stuff, then I remembered Saturday is Valentines day and my mind went to thinking if I’d done all my valentines… ( you can see why I needed a day of quiet yesterday!)

winnie the pooh

I recalled a book put out by Scholastic, Disney’s Winnie the Pooh and Valentines, Too, by Liza Alexander illustrated by Carol C. Haantz.  It is a wonderful little story that reminds us to not jump to conclusions without knowing all the facts, and that knowing only a little bit about something, worrying and fretting can cause a lot of anxiety and stress, that could be avoided, if we believe and trust in our own strengths and knowledge about ourselves.

Winnie quote

In the Pooh story, Winnie couldn’t find  his friend Christopher Robin, then he saw him sitting on his own busy writing something, looking over, he saw the letters W – I – N and felt rather pleased, but then his friend kept writing, and in the end it wasn’t his name at all.  I won’t spoil the story for you, but it was near Valentines day, and Winnie felt sad thinking his friend had a new friend now, and….. well you know…. how thoughts  run through different scenarios.   Of course it all ends well, Valentines day came and Winnie got a card from Christopher addressed to him and he was very happy.  He told Christopher, “But, we thought you found a new friend”… to which the reply was “oh, Pooh Bear, just because I care about someone else, it doesn’t mean I care any less for you.” =^_^=

winnie colouring page

Here is a Valentine for you dear reader.. get out your crayons and have some fun, or print it out for someone who will enjoy a few minutes of R & R with Pooh.  Remember. I LOVE YOU….

like a seed

abandoned castle #1 by nikonento on flickr

like a fertile seed

I blew  in one day

and found a place to lie

I remember sunny days

and others, where I only wanted to hide

days bleak and overcast

pounding pellets of rain forced me underground

with time I accepted the darkness

it felt nurturing

I felt protected

plants in the sun

as time went by I noticed that on sunny days

I began to sprout and reach towards the warmth

even the rain became my friend

after a long period of drought

I sighed with ecstacy when the crystal drops

bathed and fed me

plants on roof

I had been lost, alone in the world

my days and nights were spent alone

yet even  through times of darkness

I never lost faith, I waited

knowing when it was time, I would know why,

why, I had the capacity to know my thoughts

to feel the various ” states of being “

I experienced with the unfolding of my life’s story

rose and thorns

while at times I may look  dormant

there are other times I am alive with colour

my thorns can be a challenge,

but I really am worth knowing

I am a seed in this Universe of ours

that thrives with your unconditional love

I took root, I believed and I blossomed

now, I accept the various seasons

you gave me life to experience

and every year, I grow stronger

knowing that always you are the sun and rain

you are my all

no more, no less

brdge, Inca

This is an Inca rope bridge (Qeswachaka) above the Apurimac river in Peru. Rope bridges were simple suspension bridges over canyons and gorges (Pongos) that provided access for the Inca Empire.  traffic was limited to pedestrians and livestock and were an integral part of the Inca road system …

bridge, northern Pakistan

This bridge is known as the most dangerous bridge in the world.  The Hussaini Hanging bridge is only one of many precarious rope bridges in Northern Pakistan. These rickety cable and plank bridges are long and poorly maintained.  Planks go missing, and strong winds shake the bridge as you cross it.

ladder, 5stories high,Putucusi,Peru

OK 1 more.  This is how one scales Putucusi, (Peru) it is a hike that brings you up adjacent to Machu Picchu, it is said to be about 5 stories high.  One hiker hiked for 4 days over the top of the Andes on the Inca trail to get to this ladder.

PL lesson,  Everything that happens to us, is material for Growth.

I lost my cell phone today. Won’t bore you with the details, suffice to say after searching and searching some more, it has not turned up. There are a few more steps to be taken tomorrow, but the long and short of it is that I simply will likely find myself with out a phone. (cell)   Didn’t use it much, will I miss it, it will be inconvenient at times.  However…interestingly I am not really concerned.  whatever happens it will be for the best.  I believe that.

Would I cross the bridges I’ve shown you in this blog.  If I needed to get to the other side, and that was my option, yes I would.  Would you?

natural delights

dates

While shopping the other day, I walked past a sample tray with out a second glance.  It was only after I’d walked down a ways that I realized that what I had seen was a display of dates and peanut butter. Totally taken back by this combination, I went back for a proper look and to talk to the young man who as manning the sample booth.  He informed me that only part of the ingredients were there since the raw pecan halves had not arrived in time for the demonstrations.

The appetizer was to have been stuffed Medjool dates with peanut butter and a piece of pecan .   The dates are cut in half, the pit taken out, and then the half is stuffed with peanut butter and topped with a pecan half.  I guess I had without consciously doing so, made a face.  I just couldn’t picture the taste of date with peanut butter.  The young man smiled and offered me a sample to taste.  Being the polite woman that I am, I took it said thank you and walked away.  Not wanting him to see me when I tasted what I thought would be a disaster.

Surprise, never mind that dates are a source of energy, fibre, magnesium and contain potassium, the combination of date and peanut butter was mouth-watering delicious.  Just thinking about it, makes we want to go and make a couple.

dates, peanut butterI’ve since learned that dates are used in many vegan diets, and the combination of dates and peanut butter is not unusual at all, in fact it is a combination loved by many.  There are a lot of recipes on Pinterest and other sites using that combination. I was the one who was walking around ignorant of this sweet treasure.

dates,avocado

A tasty reminder to be aware of what is around you, be open to new possibilities, try something new, expand your horizons, you just never know, what new experience will bring a new “happy” into your world.

Date squares were always one of my favourite desserts, I don’t bake, eventually over the years, the date disappeared from my mind and diet.  Guess what is coming back..   =^_^=
