Friday smile

lemur from 1994 magazine

Whenever you need a smile, you can always count on someone to pop up and say – Hey!

Hi!  I’m thinking of you…  Makes me smile every time.

Everyone gets busy in their own day-to-day living.  When someone takes the time to drop in and say hello…  appreciate the moment…  this is one way the electronic world has changed over the years..  Where before we waited by the mailbox for word from a friend, now… with the internet, a few clicks and the smile is on its way.

This little guy I’ve been dragging around with me for years, I mean YEARS.  He was on some magazine cover that someone had thrown out.   I rescued him, every so often he pops up,  I find him amongst papers, or stacks of magazines.. we share the familiar (by now) hello… and…. puff…. he’s gone till next time.

We need to tidy up and clean house  in the fall, I prepare for nesting come the days when it is so cold outside.. we know we will be enjoying it from inside.  For all the crafters and collectors out there, check your stash.  Time to stock up.

Blessings to you all.  Share a smile today.  Love with all your heart, what goes out, comes back… Always.

chop suey Friday 5.26.17

Happiness after a hard-fought game.  Sorry Ottawa, but, Yay Penguins. Sid you are the best!  born in Halifax, Canada, he is an amazing player, all round professional who earns the accolades he gets.

Jenna May, Sienna and Margaret May 25.17Somewhere along the way, I became a den mother to three dolls.  I wouldn’t swear to it, but I think Tanya* had something to do with it. I went from finding a doll that kinda reached out to me, to have two more who like being dressed and combed.  Do you think this has anything to do with as a parent I was a Mother to a very talented young boy, who grew up to be a gem of a son.

I was part of a group of artistic souls who made one of a kind dolls.  We scoffed at the ladies who played dress up with  the young dolls as shown above.  Preferring our out of the box, one of a kind creations.  One should never say never, we simply do not know what lies ahead for us.  Or how we end up somewhere we had no idea that it was a direction we were going.

The small cloth doll you see, in the middle is one I made when I was sewing and felting,I was trying to combine the fibre for felting with scrap material I had.  My own version of a rag doll.

pasta salmon dinner

Salmon pasta salad made with fresh vegetables. Red sockeye salmon, tad mayo, and dash of Himalayan salt.   Tempting me to go have my dinner.

Happy week-end to everyone, a long week-end to my American friends, and a busy walk/run week-end here in Ottawa, lots of events going on…

Oyashikiri – Blessings !

memory lane

p1000518The pumps are gone, the mechanics retired, but the building remains… this little lot is perched on the corner where two secondary roads intersect.  (see below)  I liked its character. =^_^=

p1000516What were the  cars it serviced in its “hay” day. The following cars were in a collection that I found in New Hampshire, this was one of the nicest and well maintained displays I’ve seen in many a day.

Life is full of wonders.  We need only look around us for the remnants of a time gone by.  The world is a wonderful place, and we have had such a colourful and creative past.  Today we live every day, starting each morning with a brand new canvas.

Madonna House Apostolate

**********

Yesterday we drove out to Combermere, Ontario, to the Madonna House Pioneer Museum and St. Raphael’s Handicraft Centre. It is a beautiful drive through cottage country, I confess to being so tired, that I fell asleep on the way up and missed a lot of beautiful scenery.  For those who know Madonna house, I need not explain it, but a short note for those who are new to Madonna House, it is run by missionaries, all items that are on display in the museum, or for sale in the shops, are donated, and ALL the proceeds go the poor.

The museum is pat of the Renfrew County Museums Network,  there is a main shop with a multitude of collectibles, curios and antiques.  There is an Art Gallery with paintings, prints and other works of art.  One of my favourite haunts is The Small Shop, a thrifty shopper’s favourite, vintage items, costume jewelry and countless pieces of interest.

It is known for its Book Shop with a wide variety of used books, rare and antique special collections. The Pioneer Museum is a must if you are interested in an extensive Canadian Collection of old tools and…. the museum was built from 100 year old hewn logs by experts in the Madawaska Valley.  for the museum, it is a guided tour.

Coming up Labour Day Week-end. September 5th and 6th.  1 pm – 4 pm they are having  a Heritage Fest.  Where you can see first hand, their skills in  wool carding, spinning, weaving, felting, bee hive demonstrations, butter churning, pottery, and wood carving.

Madonna House is self-sufficient,  in that it runs a farm to produce, for example, the sheep fibres used in the wool carding, spinning and weaving, cows for the milk, and butter, this is a must visit for families that want their children to know what life was like, prior to all the modern technology that we are bombarded with today.

Coordinates for Madonna House   2887 Dafoe Road, (Hwy 517)     Combermere, Ontario.  613-756-3713   or visit http://www.madonnahouse.org  please if you have the time, visit their website, they are dedicated to loving and living a life of service, in all aspects of everyday life….
