Today I would like to thank the Nature Ripe Farms in BC for the delicious fat plump blueberries I had for breakfast.  I started out rinsing them, and was only going to have a couple, but some how the hand at the end of my arm, kept popping them into my mouth. What a mouth-watering treat. The now almost empty container sports the Canadian flag..  Pl Principle # 8 says “I will not have a mind to be greedy”  hmmmmm I see I will have to practice more restraint around the little beauties.

In the summer, when fresh produce is in abundance, I find blueberries and other fresh products I like, hard to resist.  I will go most fall, winter and spring, and not give a blueberry a glance, but when these big fat round ones appear. I succumb to the bliss of a melting blueberry on the tongue as  I savour the moments of pleasure they give me.

PL Principle # 3 – Appreciation – I will live with a mind of appreciation towards others and things.

Visit a link  naturipefarms.com to read about the goodness of the blueberry.

This is a saying that I think should be posted on billboards all over the place. Speaks for itself. Networking is not kindness. It is important in today’s world, for connecting, sharing ideas, and it is super effective, I am a believer of networking.  But, there is a difference between networking and kindness.

Friendship & salads

IMG_2390

Hey everyone, look, a salad. it just isn’t any salad, my sister made this salad.  So what is the big deal, well let me tell you.  When my sister was here visiting (from away) she had a bite with us, where my husband had made one of his super delicious  salads.  She liked it so much, that she savoured that experience till she got back to CA, and then made one up for herself.

Hers is different, it is her own taste buds that went to work to create the vision you see above.  No two people will create the same masterpiece.  Like friendships, we are all unique in what we bring to the relationship.  I love my sister, she is my sister, however, when we were out one day on an excursion, we met a lovely lady in a Tim Horton’s.. neither of us knew her, but we sat with her and enjoyed the visit.

At one point in the conversation, my sister said, “we (she and I) were getting know each other”….  ding, it registered with me.. WOW it was true.  just because we are sisters, doesn’t mean that we really know each other, we lives miles apart, and see each other only so many times a year.  Our daily lives and our “habits” or the way we go about our lives, is really unknown to the other.

Her making this salad and sharing the picture with me, brought home, how special she is, and how much I do love her, as not just my sister but a friend.  One that I hope to get to know better over the years to come.

I’ve lived all my life without ever having felt such an immediate connection

I knew that there was a horse in the paddock

his beauty I could see when we drove in

however, my focus was on the man raking the leaves

he was who we had come up the drive to see

when I disembarked from the truck

2 mature and protective great danes came to  greet me

although strangers, we all got along

the visit went with ease

when I turned to leave,

for some unknown reason,

it was not to the truck I went

but to the compelling figure at the fence

our eyes met, and I felt a sudden rush of recognition

of what I knew not what,

only that this handsome beast

knew my name and was wanting me closer

DSC00358

we met, we touched, both wanted more

how is it that I’ve never had a desire before to connect with a horse

I didn’t want to go, but I had to leave

will that moment come again,

I don’t know, but the encounter,

the soft muzzle, warm breath and gentle nudge

is etched in my memory

it was a moment REALLY  lived….

Charm of days gone by

charm and character of Sharon springs

This was taken in New York State, a few summers ago.  It was a sunny day, and I was out exploring,  in fact, this was my first time to this part of the State, I had read an article on an abandoned health resort, it was so intriguing I wanted to see it for myself.  I blogged about that trip the year I went.  This is one of the pictures that in that file.

Timing in life, is so important,  PL Precept #19  Begin Once you perceive and   PL Precept # 17   Grasp What is Most Essential

Had I not been in the States on that day, enjoying the sights, and wandering down a side street I would never have been able to capture that picture.  The home was bathed in sunlight and shade, the breeze was just right, lifting the flag for almost picture perfect memory.  Whenever I see this picture I’m reminded of that trip, and I want to explore  more of the small towns in  that area.

Rev. Eisuke and I were talking yesterday of how it is so easy to “perceive” something, yet not take action… for whatever reason, we don’t follow through, guess what “something” doesn’t get done.  Or we miss something that was essential in the grand scheme of things.  We didn’t look at or take into consideration the full picture.

In the teachings of PL, we try to encourage and show why following the Precepts as best we can, is so important to our own quality of life and the happiness of not only ourselves but those around us.

Make someone happy today,  SMILE  share the  LOVE  include it in your day, it will radiate in your smile.

This is one of the walls as one enters into what appears to be a store front in a shopping mall.  The sign says TEAL. Mind,Body,Wellness, and although there is a rather spa like setting as you enter, it is basic, clean, simple and you immediately feel,  “nice”.  Looking around, it is open, and bright, and coming from outside where it is cold, and very much winter, the atmosphere inside is warm and inviting without being pretentious.

Theses are some of the options offered at Teal.  I’ve been twice now, and both times I’ve come away looking like a greased monkey, high on a lot of TLC and expert attention to my – in need of a holiday body.  We all can’t get away on an exotic holiday, nor do we all have the time or inclination to spend weeks working over time so we can manage a few days off, only to get back to work and find the work we left on our desks still there.

Teal screen 2

My first visit there, I went for the Ayurveda treatments.  I had a full body treatment and a head massage and a full body Kalp Ubtan treatment.  It was an amazing experience, I have had Ayurveda treatments before, and I always came away totally “spaced”  I am telling you that this combination I experienced that day, was out of this world.  Let me share with you their wording from their website. tealwellness.com

Harmonize your body, mind and senses and experience instant calm and rejuvenation with this ancient Indian shirodhara treatment. Lay back and let us wrap your head and neck in warm towels while gentle botanical water drips over your forehead. The fragrant liquid flows in a rhythmic stream falls into your forehead and rivers around your head nourishing your hair and scalp. Find deep peace and let your tension melt away with every drop.

TEal head

Ubtan is a very influential lymphatic system intoxicant that is used in variety of body treatments; an aid in the detoxification process. The Ubtan (a herbal paste) is a mixture of fine herbs, spices, grains and selective essentials oils.

Ubtan, when initially applied over the body, the nature of herbs and spices is induced in the deeper tissues of the body, which eliminates stiffness and blockages.

Thereafter, massaging on the body with herbal Dosha Oils, it creates the friction that helps open up the skin pores, enhance metabolism and dissolving fat tissues. Ubtan; due to its enriched ingredients, is highly advantageous for toning body muscles, reducing cellulite from the body and stimulating weight loss.

Finally, 15 minutes of steam sauna will relive all your muscle tension and  make you feel rejuvenated and re-energized.

My recent visit, today. I had the Kalp Ayurveda Facial (1 hours), followed by a one hour massage from a RMT (Registered massage therapist)… need I tell you that I did not drive home, my thoughtful husband, drove me there and picked me up.  I was totally on a ME day.

Thai body massage

Have you ever wondered about a Thai Yogic Massage?  You’ve heard about it, and thought about it, but never got around to looking it up.  Maybe you want to try Reiki, or Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture, maybe now while we are in the winter season, and life can get blah… you could consider doing something for yourSelf…. In every major center, smaller towns, and most communities, there are Alternative Health Care providers.

Yes, it is looking after your body, yes the very body that houses who you are, and will be your constant companion all through your journey in this lifetime.

When we look after our bodies, our mind functions better.  It really does.

PL Precept # 18 Each Moment is a turning Point

PL Precept #20  Live Maintaining Equilibrium between mind and matter

Don’t wait till your body breaks down, or stalls before you take it in for a tune up.  This is about being proactive about your health, mental and physical.(your body)

Life is Art

chinese lion dance

Start of a new year for those of us who follow the lunar calendar. Lots of celebrating, dancing, fireworks, colour and excitement. Do we carry the colour and enthusiasm into our new year?

I’d like to think that I do. Every day I try to bring colour of some kind into my days.  Whether it is creatively crafting, writing, problem solving, I enjoy the challenge of working something through from beginning to finish.  That said, what I want to do, and what actually happens,  hmmm let’s say, the stars don’t always align.

Do I get angry, annoyed, no…   Why?   Because getting angry, stewing and simmering about something that has happened, will not remedy the situation.  PL Precept #4 – Being Annoyed Limits your Expression.   PL Precept # 5, One’s  Self is lost by being Emotional.  Let’s be clear, that doesn’t mean I never snap, or get annoyed with something or someone, I do, but I also have learned to let it go.  Once I vent, spew off the negativity, express my reaction, puff, it is like a breath of fresh air washes over me, and it’s gone.  What, may take all of a few seconds, or a minute or two at most, and its gone.

PL Precept # 17    Grasp what is Most Essential.  Believe me, I am much happier, when I am at peace with myself.  Reread that last bit if you need to, I work at being at peace with myself.  It is only when I can be at peace with myself, that I can reach out and be useful and loving to someone else.  If we live our lives being angry, then we are not going to achieve love and peace for others, because it hasn’t begun within ourselves.

PL Precept #15   All is a Mirror.

We are all blessed with the gift of life, love and the tools to maintain and express this love.

PL Precept # 6  Live as the Sun

Have you ever noticed how even on a gloomy day, if a ray of sunshine comes through the clouds, your mood changes, you look up with appreciation, and sometimes smile.

Life is full of an accumulation of small events/moments. If we go through life focused only on what we consider, big, important things that need our attention.  We miss opportunities to notice other things.  How often do we walk by a neighbour’s house, intent on getting to the bus stop, or to where we are headed.  We don’t see the neighbour unless they speak to us, nor do we see their garden, the flowers… we are on “the go”.  Busy, Busy, Busy.

Our lives are what we make of them,  Our days, nights, how we live them.. we are creating our own unique work of art.

PL Precept # 1   Life is Art

Be like the sun, bring sun shine into the lives of others, it will radiate back into your own.  Cultivate positive and strong relationships .. When we love with a true and trusting heart, the rewards multiply and happiness becomes the mainstay of every day life.

I love this picture, like, WoW, these mountain goats are climbing a near vertical wall.  I found it on a site, that just now when I went back to reference it again, the page was gone, or not available to me.  We speak of reflection, perception, to the photographer who took this picture, I say kuddos for your patience and ability to do this capture.  My musing is, in Nature, the animal does what is instinctively right, …. need to get to point X,  hmmm what is the best way, oh yes, this way, and simply goes about doing it.

The mind, I can speak for mine  will often prevent me from doing something, because I think about it too much.

PL Principle # 6    I will not be stubborn, being captured by my own thoughts.

gym bag IMG_0915

For weeks even months I have talked of getting back to the gym.  Always there was a reason why I just couldn’t get there. Now with the sun shining into my office, and a day facing me with my feeling blah and ho hum, I thought, I’ll go to the gym after my morning meditations etc.  The Virgo/goat that I am, I wanted to organize.  Couldn’t find my gym bag, I looked and just couldn’t find it.  Husband to the rescue, he came and looked with me, wandered down the hall and came back, “its in your office, you can’t miss it”

PL Principle # 3  I will live with a mind of appreciation towards others and things.

“How did it get in there, that isn’t where I usually keep it?” said I with a bit of the morning

surliness.  Wise husband, quietly says he doesn’t know and returns to his morning activities.

PL Principle #10  I will live in true harmony with my spouse.

I come into my office and there it is sitting in the corner waiting to be found again.

PL Principle # 2        I will not have complaints about others, matters, nor the weather.  Rather I will always be creative and will look for shortcomings in my own thinking and actions.

punching bag

Are you  someone who goes to a gym…. have you ever considered working out with a punching bag.  The jabbing, kicking and punching gives an immensely powerful take no prisoners feeling, and it also helps with weight loss, co-ordination and strengthening.   Great for sharpening reflexes too.  Find someone to show you the how to’s though before you jump in.

PL Precept 19.  Begin once you Perceive.

Have a great day, thanks for sharing this moment with me… you’ve helped me get going today… thank you, thank you, thank you!
