Turkey Vulture

It is not fun to be stuck in One Place. Instead of being captured by what’s in front of you, strive to broaden your horizons.

Yesterday coming out of the Mer Bleue along the road that brings me out to the highway from the conservation area… the wild turkeys were doing their usual foraging enjoying the early morning quiet when a car came barreling down the road. This is a no exit road, it ends at the bog. The turkeys were making their way across the road, had to be over a dozen of them… I was slowed to a stop on my side of the road, when I saw the car. I waved to caution the driver.. but she didn’t stop, she did slow somewhat, but not really, the turkeys fortunately cleared a path for her. I guess they have had experience with uncaring humans.

I had to ask myself, what or why would someone be coming into a conservation area where people come to enjoy the quiet and solitude, to share with the animals in the beauty and bounty of nature – and have such a disregard for the critters that call this home. Of course, I had just left the parking area a few minutes past, and knew that there was a group gathering there of “seniors” who were going to be touring the bog. Several cars had already arrived for the 9 o’clock meeting time, and stragglers had been arriving the last 10, 15 minutes before I left. My guess is the rude driver was late .. and was bent on getting to the parking lot before the others took off. Not impressed.

No, the turkeys were wild turkeys and not the turkey vulture you see above.. Dirk took that picture a few years back and had graciously given me permission to use it. Isn’t he /she a beauty. When I went looking for a picture of the actual wild turkey, I spied this one and had to share.. I don’t understand myself how I’ve come to be so fascinated by the turkey type birds… but… there you have it… they aren’t even cuddly. Life is what it is… we don’t pick who or what we fall in love with.

There is that word.. L O V E …. let’s spread it around today… sprinkle it in all our actions..

When love becomes a habit and part of our every thought and action… life becomes a JOY that enriches all our moments.

  1. Such a shame the driver was so rude. We’ve been seeing “our” wild turkeys quite a bit lately.
