But…

Female spent all this past fall and winter on her own with other birds but no other Grosbeaks.

Think of the timing before you say.. “but… ” When stating your opinion, make sure you are being respectful of others’ opinions. Be mindful of this when you speak.

How do we know .. myself and another “birder” went every day to where she was.. waited for her to come out of hiding.. and watched until she ate. Then went on our way. We hoped another Grosbeak would come along, spend time with her.. but none came.. I did hear that there was a sighting of a large gathering of Grosbeaks over on the Quebec side across the river from where we were.. but none ventured away from the group.

With the warmer weather, I am wondering if she will eventually move along – so far, she is staying put.. she has done well, still healthy looking and spends her time eating with other “ground” feeders. all smaller birds.. but she seems at ease with them.. Interesting how she has won our hearts – simply by being “herself”… She has become a “little star” for the photographers who are lucky to catch a glimpse of her.

unexpected upside

We are capable of handling whatever comes our way. Instead of asking yourself “Can I do it?” simply tell yourself “I’m going to do it” then, give it your best effort.”

Sometimes we are faced with sudden change in plans, in this case, the container of seeds I was carrying to a feeder slipped and fell to the ground, so instead of being in the feeder, there was a full cup of seed, peanuts and such on the ground at my feet. You can see my friend here was quick to help rescue the situation. He /she did not want me to feel my efforts would go unappreciated!

I’m off to see if she/he is still waiting for breakfast. Sky is clear and a bright blue.. clouds are white and fluffy.. Till soon…

bird talk

The activity at the feeders has been telling me for weeks now that the birds have begun to wander and soon, few of the original “gang” will still be around. Today at Mer Bleu there was a very clear indicator that in the bird world, spring is very near.

I saw one, than 2, then there they were, all scattered on the forest floor picking up seeds. The Red Wing Blackbirds… above, Dan saw the Rusty Blackbird in February… these birds are here early. It is interesting for me, since last year I read the signs, but didn’t understand, this year I recognize the “change’ in the ” glen” and realize that the travellers have started to migrate.

Start by thinking ” Let’s do it” Once you decide to do something and put your whole heart into it, things will start moving forward.

In Nature, things happen when it is time.. obviously these birds have decided it was time to move on and come to their “spring” grounds.

The darling woodpeckers are still hanging out… still a lot of snow on the ground in the woods.. If the birds are right, the balmier weather is here to stay.. We’ll have cold spells, but they will be fewer and farther in between.

Strive to live with a positive outlook everyday. Put your whole heart into whatever you do. With motivation you will feel joy and excitement.

the entrance is around here somewhere….. hold that thought….

No one can take away the joy you get from putting your whole heart into something. The joy you feel when you’ve put your all into something is yours and yours alone. Nobody can take that away from you.

An artist ( I don’t like titles/roles) but I’m often referred to as an artist, so I’ll wear that hat for the moment, I learned a long time ago when I would have an urge to paint or visually express something and I’d draw a blank.. to stop… take a step back… and let it go if I had to.. if I forced the idea, or tried to replicate my “feeling” into a visual, I would end up with a disaster.. technically speaking I could paint/draw or sculpt something.. but it just wouldn’t be “right”. We all have had that “blank page” empty canvas moment.

When I’m in the woodland… some days I simply tend and fill the feeders.. and leave.. other days, I’m drawn to stand still, or sit where I am and let the environment speak to me. I take in the decaying vegetation, the fallen branches, the sounds and the scents… I simply stop moving, close my eyes to regroup, then with my eyes closed the sounds become music, the breeze/wind becomes an instrument harmonizing with the chatter of the squirrels/chipmunks and the social greetings of the birds. I am re-energized.

How many “me” moments do you take during the day/night.

Don’t let circumstances sway your decision. It does not help to overthink things. Sometimes we just need to make up our minds and move forward.

We limber up our bodies, we stretch, and move so that as we “age” we can still be mobile as “time” inches its way into our lives. Let’s’ not forget our minds… the mind gets so overworked, we expect it to constantly be on the alert for us. Take 30 seconds .. start with baby steps… give your mind a break, allow it a super stretch of “stillness”..

Service is at 10 a.m. today… let’s share…

day 5

Mindfulness – is this a start to your journey of mindfulness, or have you been at it for years -it is time to access calm, to feel more grounded. Mindfulness is the practice of repeatedly returning your focus to the present moment without judgement or criticisms.

Originally stemming from Buddhist roots, the practice has evolved – there is a “Way” for each and everyone … small steps.. begin by being aware.

Being Present

Photographer Daniel Cadieux https://www.dancadphotography.com/blog/

I met this photographer some time back, even before I saw his website and his Instagram, I was impressed with his focus and attention to detail. He could look up into the tree tops and point out the birds looking back at us. I actually didn’t even notice him at first, he had been standing a few feet away from me … just observing waiting … I was at the feeders.. tending the birds.

Over time I got to see him often enough that we got to speak to one another. He shared some of his pictures and I was an immediate fan. The other day I found him (minus zero weather) on the ground along a country side road in much the same position as you see him above, but waiting for the robins and their friends to return to a small puddle of open water to drink and bathe. His patience and attention to the moment is so keen.. I am always reminded when I meet up with him.. that I need to slow down and take in the moment, I will only get one chance at it.

Take action without thinking too hard. No matter how hard you try to foresee the future, you really don’t know how things will turn out. Do your best and see how it plays out..

Today is a day for me to stand back, take a deep breath, allow the moment and the environment to happen, to still the hurry, the bustle and the noise created by others to influence my “quiet’…

we are gathered here………..

It is not fun to be stuck in one place. Instead of being captured by what’s in front of you, strive to broaden your horizons.

The shortcut to progress is to listen with a humble mind. if you are stuck in your own ways, you will eventually become bogged down. Let’s remember to be humble, learning what we an from the knowledge, advice and suggestions of others.

fresh outlook

A community that prays together, stands together… Yesterday one of our young members had a very “bad” day. We are all praying that he will have a speedy recovery and that his family and friends feel the power of our prayers.. A heartfelt thank you to everyone yesterday for rallying around at a time when we needed to join in prayer. I will be in touch later with updates. In faith we stand….in prayer we are ONE.

Start today with a fresh outlook. Even though people and situations may look the same, they are constantly changing. Start each day with a fresh mind.

Perfect Liberty 2022.17

A reminder that in life, when we are faced with challenges that test our mortal strength/abilities… we are never alone when we “Believe” Always there is someone ready to hold/embrace/ and comfort you. Prayer has no boundaries, no physical limitations.

balmy >freeze

The day started out very mild, in fact balmy. When I stepped outside I could hear the ice melting, there was a gentle rain falling that was very soothing. By the time I got to the birds, you can see that the Blue Jay was wet, it was a rain mixed with fluffy snowflakes.

By the time this picture was taken we were getting ice pellets, the temperature was no longer pleasant.

When you face difficulties start with anything you can do. When you are able to grasp the situation, you will surely be able to notice something that you can do.

Perfect Liberty 2022.12

The flash freeze that had been predicted had arrived. I was happy I’d started out early and that all the feeders were stocked. Nothing is a bother/problem when we are prepared.

Till soon…
