mushrooms
Mushrooms come in all shapes and sizes. At this time of year, I and others who wander the forest, would be seeing a huge variety of fungi.. alas with the closure of so many of the woodlands right now (due to storm damage and pending dangers) our “hunting” will have to begin later.. Meanwhile, Shirley who is in New Zealand has been posting some of her finds. Thank you Shirley!!

Today my car is finally going in to the body shop to have the repairs done (door replaced) from when the taxi backed into me over a month ago now. another adventure awaits!

Hognose Snake from Texas – Yeah.. how about that, a snake. In a conversation happening around me, I heard someone say they saw a hognose.. I had no idea, when I said, what is a hognose, that someone would send me a link and a picture(s). OK. I who walk across the road to avoid a small little garter snake, was slightly taken off guard. Not something I would go out of my way to see, or know about.
I’m a city gal, and I tend to live and frequent areas where if there are snakes they are not where I come across them. Plus I live in a climate that doesn’t encourage snakes to be part of the landscapes I visit In reading about this little wonder .. it seems that to some its so cute they have them as a pet. Yeah. that is something wouldn’t come to mind if I saw one near me. It is known to be a bit of a “drama queen” it seems when it is threatened one of its defenses is to play dead.. I’m not going to link you to that video, but it is interesting .. the snake does put on a performance. While its playing dead it is giving off a putrid awful smell to add to the deceit that it is rotting/decaying/dead.
If I am to transform my negative thinking, try to be more positive and open to new ideas/thoughts etc. then taking a moment to read about this little critter is a step in the right direction. I learned that this “animal” has a personality, it thinks (not like we do), it has some kind of intelligence that keeps it going during its lifetime, helps it hunt and survive… Aren’t we, also daily doing our best to adapt and survive.
Express yourself clearly so others can understand you. When you can’t communicate clearly, it can lead to problems. Always express yourself carefully to avoid any misunderstanding.

Teachers like this one, spoke only Japanese, for International students like myself, we had a translator, English for those of us from North America, Spanish for those from the countries that needed Spanish, and Portuguese for members from Brazil and Portugal. I seem to have something I want to do, think I should be doing, but… it is not gelling… not clear what it is my subconscious is trying to make me aware of. I have been doing a lot of clearing out, cleaning up, could this be a by-product of the new spaces opening up around me?

Have you ever found that for some reason you are just not able to keep up with the others on the trail or path.?? Do you need to keep up?? What is the purpose of your outing? Is it to go a great distance or to enjoy the moment? Is it, time out in nature, or exploring new parts of the city/town you live in or near. For whatever reason you find yourself “out of step”.. when you notice it.. it is at that moment you need to explore the thought…

When a professional guide takes you fishing to “just that spot” there are no guarantees, but if/ when you catch and bring in a fighter… that is an experience you will remember.
We each have our own way of experiencing “NOW”, I like the mindful walking in nature, someone else will enjoy the solitude of a lazy day on the water. Someone else will get lost in their garden, whatever it is you like to do that makes you feel an “inner joy/pleasure”.. make the time.. take the time .. put aside a block of space.. just for YOU. So often we are so busy doing, we forget to “stop and smell the roses”

I want to add… it is important to be mindful of our own thoughts and feelings.. It is easy to gloss over our personal reactions… in lieu of… when we do that… it will come back to haunt us.. maybe not immediately but it will.
Pine Grove Trail
I was so sad this morning when I visited P18 otherwise known as PIne Grove Trail. You can see the destruction of this beautiful location .. it is completely torn up. My husband and I walked the dogs there years ago.. it was such a beautiful serene area. The story I wrote about the woodland creatures was set in this location. Seeing the devastation was heart wrenching.
Times like this brings home.. nothing is forever. Forever is now.. in that moment. The trees were like cathedral walls, their canopy was magical. Now as you can see, what was, is no longer. When the crews finally do get in to start clearing away the fallen trees, the landscape will be forever changed.
Much like my world without someone I thought would be in my life “forever”.. was called away into his own “forever” – life IS. only we (me, myself and I) can make changes within our “selves”
Start today with a fresh outlook. Even though people and situations may look the same, they are constantly changing. Start each day with a fresh mind.

after a storm
There is a reason the conservation staff have put up “park closed” and danger/caution tape up blocking the entrances to the trails. They are dangerous. You can see the size of the downed trees, you have to be able to climb over or walk around them. AND there are still trees leaning very precariously at an angle, so much so, a tremor or wind could topple them.
See how this tree is leaning, half of the roots have been pulled out of the ground. I am very familiar with this trail, I was very careful making my way around. I did not venture away from the areas where I knew I could easily manouver out of the way of a falling branch/limb.
All was VERY quiet. I did get to have a visit with the duck .. he was alone.. the water was devoid of other birds/ducks, On my way out I met a fellow “wanderer…’ Bev and I had met some time ago, it was nice to catch up. she had been in the parking lot talking with the conservation officer that had come by to replace the “stay out” tape that someone had removed. I had to limbo under it to get out =^_^=.
We are all here for a purpose. Please reach out and share your beautiful smile today. enjoy the pictures of a paradise dealing with “change’… the birds have begun to sing again, the chipmunks, and squirrels used to visitors are searching for the handouts that are no longer there.. but… time will rebuild.. workers will get to the different trails and the tidy up will happen.. Send positive energy to all the workers who are having to work long hours to repair/clean up and the many hydro /internet problems that still need resolving.

Yesterday I found a dead rabbit. It was a beautiful rabbit, it looked peaceful in its eternal sleep. I couldn’t see why or how it had died, the body lay empty on the path. What to do. I could walk around it if I was careful, but it was in a place where many others would need to pass to get on the trail. the opening was only a few feet wide.. and he lay right at the narrowest part of the entry.
My concern was the young children heading for the trail would see him.. perhaps think it sleeping and curious gone over to touch or see it. Or.. the dogs that are walked there, one would get at it, and then… that wouldn’t be good for the visitors either. I had recently cleaned out my car, I had no shovel, and no garbage bags.. in the end.. I called the emergency number for the area… and had to leave it to them to come clean up.. Being a Saturday, she didn’t know if she could get anyone before Monday.
Week-ends are the busiest at this location. Because of the storm the other three trails there are roped off, there is only this one trail open, and the only access to it was this narrow opening.
Sometimes all one can do is “trust” that it will all work out.
rain come again another day
Think “now is the time” instead of “It’s no use now” don’t give up by thinking it’s too late. Tell yourself that there is more that can be done.
