I’ve yet to meet a rock I’ve not liked. They can be hard to get to know, but always they have a story to tell. Much like trees, the longer they are around, the more ambiance they pick up and over time, they are works of art. Everything in life tells a story, yesterday was a fascinating day, I had a lot of new experiences, and met a lot of new rocks and trees that teased me with their history.
Discovering far away places, is great, except didn’t get my walking in, so I’m off this morning to make up for the steps I missed yesterday.

Good morning, it was dreary when I looked out, but not raining, I thought, good day to go to Mud Lake, it was early enough, shortly after six.. however by the time I did a bit of this and that it was now going on 7:30.. still have time, I grabbed my coffee and headed for the door. My route to Mud Lake took me to an entry access to the 417 going West. By golly I was in the turning lane, I was going to either have to take the entry onto the 417 or get over a lane. =^_^=
It was one of those easy no brainers, I was on the 417 headed out towards Fitzroy Harbour and Morris Island. By now it was a steady downpour, no changing lanes on the Queensway, the morning traffic was heavy, so I just let it happen. I will tell you what you all know, overcast, humid, rain, is of no matter to the bugs and mosquitos. When I got out of the car to get a closer look at anything, I was mercilessly swarmed. I persevered it will be a trip for another day, if I have my way, a fall day. I did get to the parking lot, and had a brief look around, there were no other cars in sight.
Allow me to share some helpful information with you.. the little building is the loo, Female door is the one you see, the Male entrance is at the rear. It is very DARK inside, there are not signs on how to turn on the lights, they do not come on automatically, there is a box on the left as you enter, that if you look at it closely there is a small button, press that before you close the door otherwise you will be in complete darkness. There is a park fee of $6.00 you park and pay at the machines you see above.
The park guidelines are well outlined and posted .. please read up on what is and what is not permitted . Dogs are to be leashed at all times. I will return for sure.. but today’s trip has shown me that I will do so well after the mosquito season. ugh. The terrain, the landscape, the possibilities are endless for those wanting a hike, and outdoor experience. I of course heard a ton of wildlife, birds etc. that I have yet to identify.. didn’t miss the crows and raven calls tho’.. they are still my favourites.
Be thankful at the beginning and end of each day. Each and every one of your actions can inspire peace with your family, your community and the world around you. This peace will eventually help lead to World Peace.

NB I did show you the one place they posted for putting your canoe in the water, there are other places you can slide a kayak in too. On the road leading to the parking area, there are signs, they do not want parking along the roadway.
I wanted so badly to be on the water. The kayaks drifting along were such a tease to my imagination. Had I had water proof footwear I would have walked in the water.. it was so inviting. there are no swimming signs. A place to sit on the water’s edge with feet in the water.. ahhhh just the thought is enticing…. I looked for a suitable place, but couldn’t find one. The wild parsnip, upper left corner, is poisonous, there is a big sign that says to keep away, & not touch it. Very pretty though. The bird that I see and hear the most of is the red wing black bird. It is everywhere, unfortunately my camera doesn’t zoom in enough to catch it, but I do see it almost in and around every corner.
Change your mind, thinking “It will be alright” Do the best you can without being overly attached.
It’s okay! God is watching over you. Things turn out for the best. Don’t be captured by momentary troubles but continue doing everything with sincerity.

A note. I have been walking now with an app for about 3 weeks, today I achieved the 100K “medal”.. That felt rather good to read that on the app. I try to do about 2 miles a day. Why it is giving me the medal in K. I don’t know. But.. it sounds good.. It will give me the incentive to keep going.
Even though it was raining, I kept a steady pace, and actually incorporated arm movements, and high knee stepping into the walk. I wasn’t distracted by “picture taking” or using my walking stick(s). There are benefits to walking in the rain! =^_^=
I found out today, the little cut out there along the side, is where the baby turtles can leave the shelter when they are ready to embark on their journey of life. Seems the mother turtle, once she finds a place to drop her eggs, simply moves on with her life. ( see previous blog)
Meet the turtle I met the other day, I have since been told she is a snapping turtle, the mound of earth that she left, has since been protected by I will assume the wild life staff that monitor what is happening in the conservation area. Needless to say I was happy to see that the “nest” has been protected. I had to reposition the green warning flags, but aside from that, her place looks like it has been secured. My next question, is how will she get back to be with her eggs, or does she even care?
It was a beautiful day, I’m getting better at doing the walk, and with a softer foot fall. =^_^= new walking shoes/runners help. With the little rain we’ve had, I note that the water in the area is not as high as it was over the past months.

Today’s walk in the rain, I had just started down the trail when I spied what I thought was a turtle at the base of a sign. Yes, it was a turtle, he/she looked at me, I looked back.. after deciding I was of no danger, it went on with its back and forth movement of its hind legs. I didn’t want to get too close, after all, it was there first and it was in the middle of doing something. When I came back after my walk around the bog, I found what was left of where it had been, no sign of the turtle. Anyone know what he/she was up to?
Rain obviously is not a deterrent to wildlife, they just proceed with what ever it is they are doing. I didn’t see a lot of birds today, but I could hear them .. I concentrated today on taking my time, measuring my steps, being conscious of how my foot fall sounded on the boards, I actually sat, even tho’ it was raining on one of the benches and just closed my eyes to let the moment engulf me. I actually was glad I had my walking stick to lean on, it was so peaceful, the quiet so unique, cuz of course it wasn’t “quiet”, there were sounds, but natural sounds of the ambience that surrounded me.
I felt and heard the rain drops as they landed and disappeared. The fragrance of the wet leaves, and the heady floral scent of the tundra plants as they soaked in the wet droplets. All very special. In my mind I started to compose a poem .. then realized that there would be no words that could translate what I was feeling, it was just too awesome, too humbling… I was so grateful and appreciative that I was alive at the moment in time, I could see no other living being, but I knew I was not alone -I understand the sentiment, when people say, I found God… The wonder of the Universe and the endless divinity and diversity, transcends all that I “know”…. I really truly feel very blessed that I am able to experience and spend time in Nature, I know I’m a city gal at heart, and I love my central air, and the amenities that come with living in the city. But my time spent in the woodlands, is such a joy and a balm to my “soul”, I encourage anyone who can and has the time to spend time outdoors in/with nature to do so… It is a natural remedy for many many man made ills.
I found a lazy river yesterday, and instead of staying to enjoy the discovery, I captured pictures of it, then moved on. Reminds me of when I buy a package of dusters (swifter type things) and then sit then down somewhere when I get home and forget them. Somehow I still believe if I have them here, I’ll dust in my sleep, or …………………
Yes the paved circle at the church in yesterday’s blog was for meditation and prayer. There are different versions, but this one uses the space it has efficiently. I found it thanks to a search Eartha had done for one of her projects, I visited it, but again, I didn’t use it.. I captured it, and moved on.
This is a huge lesson for me.. one I need to address. and… I will. I’m due to church this morning for Ancestors Day service at 10: a.m. I think I will drive out to the circle and use it this morning before I head to service, not in the same area, but it is in the West end so will say ta for now.. will let you know how I do.
For anyone interested … there is a Paul Anka tribute today at Frank’s in SL.. there will be two shows. One I think is around noon SL and the other 8 or 9 SL for people who live in the western time zone. I have no idea who is doing the cover, but it sounds like it could be interesting.

The lazy river is in Russell, Ontario, there is a small park there, delightful place. If you go, don’t follow my poor example, stop and enjoy the moment. There is a cat there that I’m told is like a mascot to the place.. I think the lady told me his name is Oscar, but .. I could have misheard. sigh.. she told me that he doesn’t go near the road, he is very friendly comes for tummy rubs.. no.. not from me.. but he did come round.
Road construction is happening all over. The other day I made a mental note to not take Hwy 31 again for awhile. So where did I find myself this morning, not 24 hours later, on Hwy 31 edging my way back into the city.

It was a small price to pay for the wonderful adventure I’d been on. =^_^= It was a sterling day of discoveries. I listened to the little voice that said, “turn left”…. I ended up in a small town that I always pass when driving somewhere else. Today, I ended up on the main street .. and delighted in my finds.. (yes I will share with you eventually)
I managed a few pictures of the sun and shadows that played amongst the ground cover on the forest floor. I confess to giving in to the hoard of biting mosquitos that swarmed all around me. This is the first time they have managed to get up my sleeves, and /or bite through the flannel shirt I was wearing. My arms are covered in bites/welts, I will be taking allergy pills for the rest of the day.
I have a video that I somehow took while capturing the pictures I got this morning. Try as I might I don’t know how to size it so it will show up here. You can actually see all the activity of the mosquitos flying back and forth around the lens of the camera. If someone out there also on WP can offer a suggestion I’d appreciate your comments. What I have is 1:48 minutes long. In the past I just insert and it has copied, but not today.
Tell yourself “Things happen” Even if something is inconvenient once you accept it you will be able to move onto the next step.

The standing tree minus any leaves or sign of life, was surrounded by lush vegetation. On the other side of all the green was the St. Lawrence. I tried to capture the dozen or more ducks swimming along the shoreline but they were too far off, and I didn’t have my camera, being the driver of yesterday’s jaunt, I had not expected to be taking pictures, one should never make that assumption, I’ll eventually learn.
I tried to find another way closer to the water but the only “easy” way was to climb up a grassy embankment and get to the road, and then walk down to the bridge. By the time I parked and got to the bridge, they were specs in the distance. However that said, they were chatting and singing as they sailed down towards wherever they were heading. There were a lot of birds in the trees too, we just didn’t or couldn’t see them.
