what I learned today

black-gesso-1Black gesso is messy.

Black gesso really works, and using the brand that works for you,  helps a lot.

When working with black gesso.. wear gloves, it really is black

practice, practice, practice…..

black-gesso

So far I’ve tried it on different papers, waiting for it to dry, then I’ll press the papers over night.  I had tried using white gesso with a black paint, but the results were not the same.

Learning to work with a new product, and to get results that please you, for your own personal style of expression, takes patience and the willingness to experiment. Taking chances, it is through mistakes that we learn, what we want.

This philosophy applies to our experiences in life. Sometimes we have to try something a few times, in a number of different ways to get what we “think” we want at the time.  Each new steps, leads us to further discoveries.  We need only be open to “change”

fall day, 9th. Nov.

Sometimes it is hard to see where one part of a picture begins and where it ends. Is it one or is it two.  It all comes down to perspective.

some leaves fall and retain their grace, other’s wither and fade away, yet still there is beauty, for when they live, we so enjoyed all they provided. In the brand new light of a sunny day, we know that with today’s change, it will be fleeting, for tomorrow, the cycle begins again.

Today this house still stands, but soon the new owner is going to rebuild, and what I saw today, will never be again.

img_1991

My memory will be of the aging couple who lived here when we moved in next door.  I am sure they had to adjust to our totally revamping their previous neighbours home and garden.  Now many years later, it is our turn to adjust.  The new owner is a developer, and where once stood a single family home, will be a multiple structure.  Infill.

img_2003

What will tomorrow bring, your guess is as good as mine.  What is fact, is that no change is permanent, change is the only constant in life.

what was

waku,Japan 2016

Sterling, handsome young man, caught in a suit.  Would we think this was the norm…  we could, he carries it so well. Confident, charming, years from now, this will be what was in 2016 on the day that picture was taken, it will not reflect anything else, but that moment in time.  We are often reminded of what was back in … pick  a year, any year…  What we discover is, that what was back then, although still part of our “make up” is in no way where we are in the “now”

Mamoru 2015

Will this young man remember the day he was off to play golf and was caught in the moment.  Maybe.  Life is filled with so many wonderful adventures, and we get to live each and every one.  I am often asked if I remember something that happened some many years ago.  My honest answer, is probably not.  If the person is able to give me enough information, I might catch a glimpse of what that person is remembering,  however often my memory is not the same as theirs.

People come together for a reason, strangers meet and become friends, or not..    But the encounter is one that often leaves a lasting impression, sometimes, it is felt right away, and other times not till sometime yet to come.  When you live in the NOW (present) you are living in the moment, and that moment will be with you forever.  Even if you are lost in thoughts of the past, what is happening to you in the present, is still happening, you simply are missing the moment, and that is too bad, why, because you can never get it back.

Like the exhilaration of fireworks,  they happen, then they are gone.  It is our decision whether or not we go forward, or try to hold on to the past. Whether you want it  to or not, life will continue to flow in and around you.  One season will roll into the next, enjoy  the changes, you will blossom and with each season, your blooms will change.

sheep crossing

Yes, today is Tuesday, and we are once again, taking to the roads,

off to somewhere, where we have not been in a while,

and some places, we’ve never been at all.

Ch4Btc_XAAAFqJv

No, we won’t be gone long

just long enough to change the channel in our minds

we don’t really plan, we determine a direction

and a few of the stops we’d like to make

along the way

if it should work out that we

find such a place along the way

motor bike

not just on the 17 of May

but really, any day, should be one of exploration

or discoveries

for honestly, we really do get to explore our boundaries

each and every day

if you always go right

perhaps see what happens when you turn left

it could be as simple as crossing a street

Till soon then,

we will be back by end of day

I’m off to play

Have a great and happy day!

fairy tales and beyond

IMG_1277

Many of you will remember the story of Cinderella and the glass shoes.  It has been interesting over the years watching as  the storylines that are shown, in the “romantic” interest themes are so different.  Today’s young do not wait for their prince charming to come and rescue them from their life of toil and grime.

I felt the hurt, a couldn’t stop the single tear from falling

you saw my pain, and gently wiped it dry

IMG_1273

We played with dolls, we dressed them, told them stories, cared for them, till the time came, when they were put on a shelf, and left there to amuse themselves, they were part of our past.

we fell in love, every day was sun filled

I walked on air and saw every petal of the single rose

you brought to me each day

IMG_1268

I dried the petals and safely tucked them away

I knew I would keep and cherish them all my days

Time changes us, sometimes we stay on the same path that our love is on, and often times, as the world opens up to us, we find ourselves in different parts of the city, coming home only to eat, sleep and then we return to the life we have in another part of the “world’…. yes world, because the world we shared with someone at a different time and space,  is now no longer where our daily focus is.. Our world has gotten bigger and with it, our thoughts and wants are no longer the same.

One day I asked myself, what was in that pretty vase

for I had long gone past the time

when it was part of what I did that mattered  in my every day.

Some of us, can smile, remember the memory and move on.  We clean out the vase, and either give it away, or put it to another use … something more in step with how we are … today…

Once upon a time

this was an acreage of vibrant life

that rang with the call of birds,

who had their homes in the trees that stood there

FullSizeRender (2)

now the land has been cleared

the wild life that had called this area their home

have had to move on

change is the only constant in life

fairy tales, are a part of growing up

the reality we live

through our journey in life

the character we build

the lessons we learn along the way

these are what takes us into beyond

Love is everywhere

love IS forever

material possessions are temporary

the only love that last forever

is one that is free to BE

True love transcends all earthly boundaries

and it all begins

within

what have we here

0171df704da51738db3f967c12e72114 What have we here..

It seems it was called the King Tut of barn finds.

An auction house in France announced it would be presenting 60 rare vintage, exotic cars, found tucked away in western France.

I know how I felt watching this clip, did it tug at any of your emotions, did you have a sense of something m perhaps shades of sadness, Was it just the music,or the visual.

These amazing pieces of steel and craftmanship were once new, the were the accumulation of hours of work.  The creators, the builders, designers, trades that had to pull together to build these machines of pleasure,

The cars, were admired, driven, used for commuting, and any and all other modes of transportation – finally they came to rest here in their final resting place.

Restored and found 50 years later.. If you are wanting more information, it is the automobile collection of Roger Baillon (he was a French transport business owner collection classic cars, to start  a museum, but in the 70’s he business went down, and he had to sell 50 cars to pay the bills)

The cars or a real find, Many of a history, and the fact that this collection was lost and left to be embraced by nature, for car affectionados, it is causing a real stir. Imagine seeing Talbots, Delahayes and a 1956 Maserati A6G Gran Sport in one location.

For me.. although not a hoarder, I like having my tools, and pieces that give me pleasure or a sense of being able at anytime to delve into a favourite pastime, or activity.

Seeing this clip stirred me into doing a tidy up.  Big clean up.  I realized that I had far too much in the way of material things/objects… in clearing away the clutter.. and things that have long lost their moment with me… I am making way for new beginnings and freeing space for improving the quality of what is happening in my life now.

note.. the Ferrari 250 sold for 14.2 million on Feb. 6,2015 at auction.

to see all the cars.. visit   choic

Life is to be lived in the present….. not the past…

but in appreciating what was, we can make better choices in the present

I love and appreciate each and everyone of you.

Open Up

Opportunities don’t always come and knock on the door,                                        landscape 3

Usually, they present themselves as a challenge.

Today was the church garage sale, we do one, once and  sometimes twice a year

As I watched people arrive, park and saunter over to the tables, I wished I had ..  more time to say Hello, Hi!, So nice that you could drop by…..

But of course, there was little time for anything but to keep putting stuff out and answering the many questions being asked by the eager early arrivals.

Church staff were kept busy, putting stuff out, or helping with things being purchased.  There was a steady stream of new arrivals.
here are several reasons our church does a garage sale, and yes it is to raise    money for the church… but it is also to meet the many people who drop in to       visit us  each year, and to get acquainted with them

What I realized today, was that the opportunity was there, but the reality was, we were not staffed to properly achieve the part about.. getting reacquainted  having time to actually visit and say hello to the visitor who dropped in.

So… did we really accomplish what we set out to do?  The opening our doors to say Hello and  meet new people… That was/is an important part of our intended goal.  Sometimes even when we are proactive, it isn’t till we actually play out the steps that we have scheduled and planned, that we are able to see the discrepancies.

hmmm time to rethink, how to “open up”

communication 2015

0d41485561a37c6865761f503975eb84With the technology in our lives today the need to have a telephone available in public places has all but disappeared. Interesting to note though, that in some remote areas, or smaller villages cell phones and internet access is not always easily obtained.   Yet, because of the lack of use .. the public phones are fast becoming non-existent. Heaven forbid you get stuck along a country road between communication towers, or in a deep valley with a lot of mountain between you and the air waves needed to work your cell.

40870a6d01987ff9525864f6e721ac64With central air, and many controlled environments in public areas,, buildings, and newer housing complexes.  We don’t use windows like we used to.  Where at one time I knew many many co-workers and acquaintances who went to cottages and out into the rural areas for most of the summer… I don’t hear of that as much now. The back road summer havens are slowly finding less and less activety … the lakes and rivers are not humming with constant activity.

Yes, creative minds are still at work,  all around we see the creative mind at work.  We live in a society that says, individual rights and freedom of expression  is important.  AND it is.  However, there are times, when we should be looking at how our needs/wants affect others.  AND we should care.It isn’t always about what we  want, I appreciate and enjoy looking at the above bed, do I want to sleep in or on it, no.  Everyone around us, is a unique human being, yet they are all part of who we are… they share the same air, they think and feel emotions, hurts, love, sadness, just like we do.

cliffs of Moher,County ClareSome will want to walk along a path that will mystify and rattle your nerves,  Yet hearing about their journey and seeing the world through their eyes, is WoW… exciting.  You can share the experience, just not in the same way..

Yoho National Park,CanadaThis is an experience I would like to one day explore.  For years I would drive by a frozen waterfall, and wonder what it would be like to climb the frozen sculpture I passed it 5 days a week, going to and coming home from work.  I’ve not done it yet, but it remains a goal.  I may never get to actually climb such a might fall as this one, but never-the-less I keep the desire alive by sharing the passion and exhilaration of those who can and have….  Modern technology is such that today, I can easily find and enjoy a glimpse into what someday might happen.

Never stop believing in your dreams.  Have faith.

Time was

987a75aafae57d975db1cf0fa88c5b75

Time was…. when we all gathered to listen, learn and enjoy the experience of sharing new products, new techniques, new ideas.   Then we would have time to process the information with an informal gathering around a light refreshment table…

Having worked in a large teaching hospital, I often got to speak in such rooms, lecture rooms, or auditorium.  Talking to the assembled group, I could watch their faces, and body language, I often knew the ones who would be full of questions, and interested to know more.    lt was fun, we all got to know more about the other person, and we could talk right then and there about what we had seen or heard.

Now I’m told that often if there are still such rooms in use,  the audience is head down with technology that allows them to be miles away, even if they are sitting in the room with you.    Often there is little dialogue between the group, rather questions are asked and answered online,   Therefore others in the room do  not benefit from the exchange.

Time was when we could help one another because as individuals we all see and think in our own unique way.  Often, a different view point leads to a greater indepth understanding of a topic or situation… and in some cases, makes us even more comfortable and confident with our own decision, and chosen path.

Time was, and time is… always going to be changing.  we exists today because of the past. Today in the PL churches across the world we are celebrating Ancestor’s Day.  It is a time we have where through ceremony we express our gratitude for the love and virtues of our ancestors… Services on the 11th. are at 10 a.m.. We know people cannot always attend at that time of day.. closing your eyes for a moment and silently sharing our prayer, goes a long way in bringing a peaceful moment to your day. =^_^=

sew…sow…so

sewing machine

Meet  Tabitha, a sewing machine (1886-1890) a work of art. The exquisite details, I wonder what it was like to work with. It looks like it must have been very heavy.

sewing machinem victorian weir pedestal treadle

This model is a Victorian Weir Pedestal Treadle machine, operated with your feet, it would have allowed for movement of the material with two hands.  Not that sewing isn’t a labour of love now, of course it is, but the modern-day  machines make sewing a little less tedious than it might have been in days gone by.

So much has changed, lifestyle, clothing, technology…. change is the only constant in life.… AND…. the constant blessings of living in a world where the “Universe/GOD” is “supreme”.

Let us pray that we can come together

openly with the same goal in mind

Peace on earth & goodwill to all

Sow the seed of fellowship in all you do

Be genuine in your actions, let love surround you..

like the seamstress or tailor

that sews with positive intentions

you can be a conduit that brings calm and serenity

to those around you.
