When we live a life of “art” it does not only encompass you, but it affects the multitude of people around you.  When we express our artistic ideas, and put them into action, if it pleases others, as well as ourselves, we are on the road towards a more peaceful  existence.

DSC00208By now you know that I love to sometimes just drive, and let the road take me to wherever it leads.  I don’t mind taking a turn I’ve never taken before, or even stop on a side street, just to feel that ambiance of the area I am in,  It is interesting that when out, I can chit-chat and happily chatter away with total strangers. yet when I come home, shut the door to the outside, I can do a total 360 degrees.  Turn off the phones, and just bury myself in the quiet of the creative happenings in my studio/office.

There are moments when I am caught up in what I see.  We were in a drive through, when suddenly an ordinary moment became one of dimension and depth.

DSC00234

I was drawn into another world, each blade, each stem took on personality of its own. I wanted to capture that moment, and I did.  It all took place in probably less than a minute.

Even now, hours later, when I look at that moment in time, these pictures, speak volumes to me. I want to experience every blade. each leaf, and discover the marvel of the textures in the bark

How awesome.  Simplicity, I was inspired, I took action, and I’m blessed now with the happy feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction… Life is good.I so love being part of it.  Thank you for sharing the journey with me. =^_^=

Precept #16 4.11_edited-1

Good afternoon everyone.  I had a wonderful time this past Sunday exploring the back roads from the city towards Sharbot Lake, it was a bright day, a bit of a chill in the air, but otherwise great.  Too soon after a cold snowy spell, for there to be a lot of day trippers out.  One of my finds, was this tree stump…. the colours, the recent cuts l seemed to dazzle with the afternoon sun.

DSC00162

These delights were found on a vacant lot of a house that is up for sale. 100 acres on a quiet country road (at an intersection)  The house had seen much better days, nothing of interest to me, it was the location..  What was sad to see was that the yard around the house was a catch-all for debris and clutter.  I had been drawn to the stumps because of the rich tones of the inner core.  What ever happened to their tops, was not evident. So I assume, that the rest of the tree will serve a good purpose.

DSC00163

My husband was drawn to the old television satellite dishes.  Some places tease me, and I want to hear their story.  Others, well, they just don’t hold my attention.  On this property it was the tree stumps.. they were my gemstones amongst the rubble.  AND the QUIET.  Further down the road ( a paved road, however it was well posted, that it was not a road that was maintained year round) we found this spot..

DSC00173

You likely had to have been there .. it was such a peaceful site.  What we  found was what was left of a building, that must have been part of the church that had  been in this location.  The lumber I didn’t think dated back to the 40’s but perhaps a makeshift building of sorts had been there and when that went, the community got together and put up the piece you see below. (1987)

DSC00172

How different life must have been life back when the church as in full attendance. 1893… the land in the surrounding areas you can tell had once been farmed.    The further we drove down this road, with the quiet around us, and the beckoning open fields, the more the happy glow of discovery surrounded me.

Life is ever-changing, what remains a constant in life is the natural world we live in. It grows, flourishes, dies, and is reborn.  The landscapes change, but the wonder of it all remains. GOD is living, GOD is life, GOD is Everything. and YES, GOD is LOVE

uphill climb

A difficult climb yes, it is rated strenuous, the hike itself to get there and do the full trail is 41 miles (65 km)  and will take approx. 5, 6 days, depending on how you like to “wander”.  It is the Drakensberg the highest mountain range in South Africa.  It is not a defined trail, there is a variety of terrain, and sights to see and experience.  Cascading rivers, waterfalls, along with some prehistoric drawings..

This was my slice of adventure Sunday, when we drove along the river, and found this quarry.  Yes I’d love to climb that  chain ladder, the idea is exhilarating, however, at this moment, I was exploring a part of Quebec, and the rocks here.. they drew me like visual candy…  It was exhilarating to stand in the cool crisp air, make my way as far as I could into the area and  capture the strong character of some of the boulders.

a quiet interlude

cave,Fingal's in Scotland Isle of Staffa

Fingal’s Cave off the coast of Scotland

Good Morning, thought I’d share a little more of yesterday’s experience.  Like many others around me, I live life at a rather “active” pace.  True not always, I know to take breaks, and  have a slow down time, the key words here, are I know… just because I know, doesn’t mean that I do it.  I was happy yesterday to disrobe and get on the waiting table in the small room I’d been assigned to.  Nothing magical, just a quiet place, soothing music and the implements used for doing facials.  The table was the ordinary table used in spas, and salons all over.  The table had been prepared, the colours of the towels and sheets were calm, soothing colours, the terry towels were big a fluffy.  Already I could feel myself relaxing, and when I slipped unto the table and felt the warmth on my back (the table was heated) I knew I had made a good choice.

Our minds are chatty little characters,  often even if we want to rest and know we are tired, the little voice just keeps babbling away at times like a broken record. I closed my eyes, letting the moment surround me.  I was getting a holistic facial, the herbal fragrances were intoxicating, never mind the knowing trained hands working their magic. My mind began to still, my thoughts drifted into quiet spaces that’s I’d found along the way and wanted to explore.

Melissani Cave, Greece

There is no rhyme or reason for where the thoughts will drift.  The mind and body are strongly connected and tuned to one another.  When the body begins to let go and release pent-up stress, the mind feeling less smothered and pressured, will also relax.  Being able to find, quiet moments where the body truly let’s go of the daily ritual of “activity” is an awesome experience.  It really truly is.

The promise of spring, a new season, when we see the first signs of new growth peaking through the soil…. this is rejuvenation.  we see it and we love the discovery, it is pleasing, it is a new moment. Our bodies deserve the same care and attention that we give to our gardens, our hobbies, crafts, work, it is ours.

When we invest in ourselves, in having a facial, a massage, a skin and body treatment, we are looking after ourselves, the part of us that often is taken for granted until it nudges and pushes back at us.

PL Precept# 20   Live Maintaining Equilibrium between Mind and Matter

Having a quiet interlude, enjoying the moment, was a re-energizing experience.  I had booked a full hour of body massage after the facial, needless to say, my mind took itself to exactly where it wanted to be…. my smile was a mile wide… total immersion in a happy reverie is good for the soul, you really should try it.

PL Thanksgiving Feb.2016

IMG_1117

Look at the snow, it was piled so high, that I wanted to capture it, but couldn’t really get the same view I had from inside the truck.  I had stopped on the way to church to take a picture of the fire truck that was sitting in the parking lot.

IMG_1111

Big red shiny truck… some ladies love their diamonds, today, I went for the chrome, and the size of the truck.  At the time, when I first approached taking my pictures, I wasn’t aware of the fact, that sitting in the dark corner there was a fireman.  I had seen several disembark and go into the breakfast place off towards the back.  I was happily walking around snapping pictures of the chrome, and it wasn’t till I went up for this front shot, that I felt eyes watching me.

IMG_1126

I was engrossed in the taking of pictures.. after all how often does a person get up close and personal to a fire truck.  By the time I had made my way around to this panel, the “men” who had gone towards the restaurant were back.. They were a tad amused, we had a chuckle, and of course they apologized for not having the truck at its shining best for her photo session.

IMG_1114

Look at the grill, isn’t it beautiful.  I’ve seen these beauties outside the fire stations in spring, summer and fall when they are being washed and polished. I was some chuffed to see one up close and personal.  It was a great way to start the day, what was ordinary for them, was a total  “fantastical” moment for me.

LOL a big mound of snow and a shiny red and white fire truck, helped make my day today…  How about you.. you having a good day.  In Pl, we try to make every moment count.  This morning, sharing smiles and some happy .. made for a great kick off to the day.

incredible holiday

IMG_1063

Never judge a book by its  cover…. our room was clean, big, it had a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, big screen telly and internet.  Oh and two big queen size beds.  It was just off the big super highway when we turned off on to hwy 15 going into Kingston.  This was our view from the balcony ..it wasn’t the time year to be sitting on the balcony but.. wanted to share this with you. The road you see there is the hwy. where you can’t see off to the left is the super one.  Yes, we were constantly  hearing cars, trucks etc. driving past.  In the morning, we were treated to the activity of the heavy equipment being started up.  It was all good, we enjoyed ity all.

IMG_1062

The pictures were taken early morning, the day following our arrival.  Kingston is a popular tourist attraction especially in the summer, and it is not only a military base, but swarming with the activity of the Universities and the buzz of student life.  for more on the city you can check out this link

http://http://tourism.kingstoncanada.com/en/index.asp

As wonderful as the city is, we were there to treasure hunt and chill.  Eartha  (name changed to protect the innocent)  and I were on an adventure, and yes we included some craft shopping (Michaels)  We were in our glory, on the days we were there we encountered nothing but discount days, one store had 75% off, another 50% then the next day or was it the day before it was 40%.  It is not the you spend a lot, it is the thrill of the hunt. Some of you will get this, others I know will just shake their darling heads (Hello B!)

Everything was a positive. The internet was iffy in our lodgings, but we were still able to have a giggle, and what messages I did retrieve were so appreciated. We had been told to expect snow, rain, freezing rain, but all day everywhere we were the sun shone down on us, blessing our day with warm sunshine, blue skies, friendly people, we laughed, we talked, and we ate.

We found this restaurant called the Mandarin (no it was not lost) it was just new to us. =^_^=…. Chinese New Year as most of you know by now is coming up Feb. 7 in China, 8th here.  Already the celebrations have begun.  It is a big restaurant (franchised) that means the different Mandarins, for example there is a big one near here in Orleans, are owned by different people.  This one, was in full-blown celebration mode, with the red lanterns and the red symbols of good luck, prosperity, health and happiness festooned all over in all the rooms.

Yes, there were different rooms with different themes, on our last day we sat in the Fish room. Huge divider of tropical fish and Chinese wall mural of fish.  The servers and attendants were all in smart well pressed uniforms of Chinese red, the ladies sported tops in Chinese brocade, everyone had training in how to greet guests, the special bow, the hot towels prior to eating and then another fresh hot towel after the meal.  the service was 1st class excellent!  The owner made the rounds, welcoming everyone, and offering the traditional red envelopes. A grand experience.

chinese new year goodies

It was  a wonderful time away, it wasn’t the destination, but the getting there.  Once there it wasn’t our physical environment, but the sense of happiness and friendship that carried us through the various things we did.  The discoveries we shared. We didn’t  think about tomorrow, we lived the moments and therefore, we were constantly celebrating the “wonders ” of the day.

chinese text

The start of a new year should always be a celebration of new beginnings and the renewal of the joy in our hearts.  We sweep out the old and bring in the new. According to Chinese tradition, a red envelope is a symbol of luck.  When we give someone a red New Year envelope, we are wishing them good health, wealth and luck for the coming year.

We got two on our trip.  yahhhhhhooooo, double luck!   KUNG HEI FAT CHOY !!!
